Aligning of the universe

Standard

I don’t know guys, this is a pretty unusual coincidence. My friend Karin, who is a chef instructor in Illinois, showed me the label of a package of mushrooms she was checking in for class. So the mushrooms were from-can you guess? Yes-Avondale-right down the road from me as a matter of fact-about 4 miles if that.

Karin’s photo:

So I asked my friend Nicki, whom I have know since 8th grade, if that happens to be the mushroom place her husband works for and she replied (this is all through Facebook) Yes, and he delivers to Illinois! Get outta here, right? I bet Nicki’s hubby even handled that exact carton. Small world!
I haven’t heard from the store down the road. And now I have to decide if I really want to be a babysitter. I have a family in mind, but I want to meet them. It would be the time of day when I am getting dinner ready, but then I could surely make something earlier in the day.
I had Cosmo to the vet and having a pet is so expensive these days! It was $150 for an exam, a few shots and a tube of heart worm stuff. They also suggested since Cos is a ‘senior’ now at age 11, he should get his blood pressure checked and blood work. And his teeth cleaned. Wow-that’s a lot of stuff and about $450 more. I forgot about the flea and tick stuff-which I think I can get online. I can get the treats that help the tartar issue. A vet I had for my other cat use to scrape the teeth right on the exam table! Just like plumbers-every little thing they do they charge you for it.
I so needed a walk in the park-it was around 60 degrees out, so lovely. I dropped the noisy cat off and headed to the township park. A younger woman got out at the same time and disappeared for a while, like a gazette she pranced off! I did a few rounds and took a few photos with my phone.

And my car with a lovely tree behind her:

We had some tasty brisket in bbq sauce and smashed potatoes for dinner. The meat is pre-packaged. I have a sore spot in the back of my neck and have ice on it. I think it’s a pinched nerve from picking up the cat in his carrier. It figures.

Still seeking employment

I’m not giving up! I have a few prospects-babysitting (still need to meet the family) or a store a mile away. I could probably get a bit more money babysitting, but I kind of prefer working at the store. I think it’s just seasonal, but I’m sure if they like you, they may keep you. I’ll have to learn the register and do pricing, etc. I have worked retail at the mall when I was in college. I did mostly evenings and the weekend. I’m still wanting to keep it part time. I never heard from T*J*M, that I don’t understand. But with the job mentioned above, I added a personal note about working retail before and not to go by just what I had written down as they were jobs I did when Sean was in school. I will be on my feet a lot, I know, but it’s a smallish store (mostly clothing) and it may be the ticket for me. I feel like I’m in a rut, and I worry about getting by and Bri having too much on his shoulders. And being so close, well that is a plus too. Crossing fingers.
Sean couldn’t go to work as he’s still not up to par. He is coughing a lot and says his throat is bothering him the most. He is going to try school from 7-10 as he missed last night.
Update I have an interview at the store (11-4) with the manager who sounds close to Sean’s age. I’m kind of nervous, but excited too!

Halloween is just around the bend

Standard

I ‘do’ Halloween decorating just for us as we’ve never had trick or treaters here which is a bit sad. I do love ‘nice’ Halloween decor such as owls, pumpkins and witches. The owl shown is a new purchase this year and I looped the cross stitch I did around his neck.
Girl statuary with glow of lights
I found the little girl up in the emporium in York, PA.
Halloween tree in a blue vase
One of the legs broke off of this little tree, so I kind of stuck it in this cobalt blue vase. I should hide the broken part, but it does not neat with the blue.
Pumpkins!
Cute little pumpkins. The ‘smiling’ one in the middle changes colors.
Halloween Barbies
I only have a few Halloween Barbies, but really like these gals.
Happy Halloween! Give all treats, no tricks if you can.

Me stuff-I had a tooth fixed today and looked like ‘The Scream’ painting for a few hours as my lip was pretty swollen from the injection. After it went down, I saw a big mark on the inside where the dentist must have gotten me with an instrument or something.  I’m still having sinus issues as was the dentist! Wow, we must need a hard freeze!

Baking and cooking-Yesterday I broke an egg on the stove top when I went to put it in a pot of water, so I mixed together Trader Joe’s gingerbread-yum! Had an egg sandwich today with one of the last tomatoes from the garden-that’s pretty darn good to still have a tomato when it’s almost November.  I made turkey chili for dinner which was pretty good.

A little autumn decor

Standard

This is a cellphone upload, so it could be a little better. These are most of the gourds I grew-two were different with the little green stripes around the bottom, so they are in the other room. I wanted the ‘looking glass’ spray paint and Sean couldn’t locate it at Walmart-this is ‘plain’ silver. I then got some gold too. These are in a light yellow gold in the family room.

Speaking of that room, I worked all day in there to the beat of James Taylor and Carole King’s ‘Troubadour’ concert and a little Bonnie Raitt. Cosmo was not amused as I don’t play my CDs that often, and he stayed out of the room. It’s the next biggest room 15′ x 20′ (it was the garage) and I’m not finished. Seemed I had a lot of paper sorting and dusting. Found sewing I need to do-just turn up the cuffs on jackets, turn up slacks (a life long issue) and make a dress shorter.
Nothing from any of the applications yet. I’m really hoping American Greetings gets back to me as I would like to get my foot in the door that way (stocking cards). Crossing fingers.

Finally crafting

A few weeks ago I received a note in the mail inviting me to a baby shower. I hadn’t seen the young man for many years and didn’t know he was married and he and his wife were expecting. I knew I wanted to make something as the couple has a Winnie the Pooh theme. I looked around my stash and found an unpainted frame and made this:

I had a Winnie greeting card and he was holding a snowball-so I found the button border trim and now he is holding a button! It was fun to do and I have a few more little things to include with that Winnie theme. I will mail off the package today even though it’s about an hour or so away as I need to keep the next week open in case I hear back from prospective employers. The shower is on Thursday.
Need to get a flu shot one of these days-maybe today. We need to finish up the outside. I left a few crates outs and they were no where to be seen. I’m wondering if Bri just put them back in the shed and forgot. All I could see is a groundhog pulling them down the gulley-lol.
We are still getting nice weather which is suppose to change later in the week. I can then get the rest of my clothes sorted out.
Have a pleasant week!

Some of you may know that I am seeking part time employment. I got a call from the lady at TJ M (retail) on Monday to come in and fill out an application which I did today and got to talk about 20 minutes to the manager and her assistant (I believe). Then I got an email about being an ‘event specialist’ (you may cook and/or hand out samples at a grocery store). So I got an email from the recruiter about the second job. It was a little bit of a trip, 6 hours of mostly standing at one time and having to take an 8 hour food safety online course. The pay wasn’t bad, but I told the lady today that if an opening came up in my town or the next one over in Delaware, I may be interested. And taking an 8 hour course like that to cook stuff in a microwave wasn’t appealing to me. I then started to look at a site that provided care for kids to seniors. One job is to take a lady a bit older than me to the doctor or mall because she can’t drive for a couple of days a week. I have to get my application approved and get a background check. I’m using snagajob.com and get email everyday. I know something for me is out there so I can help Bri out. Wish me luck!
~~~Happy Birthday Carole!~~~
Still here
It seems the days are blending into one another as they get shorter. I’ve been trying to walk every other day at the park, though I did walk around the yard 4 times on Saturday. I noticed a few more people with the same idea yesterday as I parked after I had a brush with a curve-in my beloved Ina! I am so mad at myself for trying to back up 75 feet or so when a flatbed was in the way to the parking area where I really wanted to go. I forgot it curved at the end, and up I went and scraped the side of the tire. Brian was 5 minutes away getting ads and stopped to look and said it looked okay. I of course, checked out the front door first thing this morning and she was okay. I am not use to the car yet and certainly not backing up. I feel dumb, but at least no paint scrapes.
I am going to go outside and put fairies and gnomes away today as it’s going to be nice in the 70s. Just have to get going now.
And because I like to share photos, a nice store window in Cape May, NJ:
You can see my mom and Brian in the reflection on the right side. I don’t know who those other people are. ; )
Steps of The Poor Richard Inn, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I don’t remember ever being near the beach at this time of the year, so we got to see pumpkins, mums and other autumnal decor. This is the steps of the Poor Richard Inn where we stayed back in 1999.
Gingerbread trim is so pretty!
Mandevilla on lamp post of Victorian home
The landscaping was gorgeous. Love the Mandevilla on this unique lamppost. This home was built in the 1880s!
You know I love gazing balls.
Neat pumpkin totems at the Virginia Hotel
These are clever decorations. As mentioned below, this is the door to The Virgina Hotel where my maternal grandparents honeymooned in 1921.
The sky was rather ominious!
Cute tour trolley. Missed the horse drawn carriages.
The Empress
‘The Empress’ what an amazing ‘private home’! I couldn’t get it all in one photo!
The Empress was built with the purpose of opening as a bed and breakfast. And yes, it is as neat and mysterious inside as one would expect– not that we’ve seen it first hand (the owner is out of the country) but we’ve chatted with a couple of people who have been inside and have had a look at the original blueprints. It has eight guest rooms, each themed after a queen – hence the name, “The Empress.” Each guest room has its own luxurious bathroom, also themed with regard to European tiles and decor. At the ground level, blueprints show a spacious parlor with a fireplace, an adjacent living room, also with fireplace, a dining room and big gourmet kitchen.
I have to say I was so exhausted from having about 7 hours of sleep in 2 days. I had tossed and turned the night before going to the beach and that night, even though we turned the lights off at 12:30, the air conditioning, light peeking in through the slants in the blinds and my mom being noisy (when she takes out her hearing aides, she doesn’t know how loud she is). We had a little trouble finding Cape May (feel dumb-a few towns over) as the GPS wasn’t working that great.
Here are a few scenes from Ocean City, NJ
Ocean City 5&10
Not too many 5&10s around! It was a cute store with lots of marked down merchandise that mom enjoyed going through.
Where we met the gang for breakfast…mom bought ‘a baker’s dozen’ of their famous cinnamon donuts and they didn’t last long-only had two in three days. The car smelled so good.
For sale in Ocean City!
My pal Heather and me. Many of the ladies came down together and hung out together, just like high school. I hung out mostly with Heather (she was solo) and Sue and her hubby.
And last but not least, our photo booth shots-so crazy!
It reminds me of my car a bit-minus the Peeps topper! : )
PA license plate of the Peepmoblie
I decided to go through my Flickr photos for a blog topic. I just gave my niece the ‘Peeps’ hat they were giving away at the National Harbor store and she loved it. She’s a hat gal like her auntie. So you all know this is a Pennsylvania company? Here’s their fun VW that was at the Abbey Road on the River show. They were a sponsor there.
Who doesn't love 'Peeps'?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well the heater is fixed-it was a bit chilly for a few mornings here.
Got my chipped molar fixed today-my mouth is sore, but more on the bottom where I didn’t have the chip. The bottom left teeth have been patched and worked on so much and with all the air blowing and water and stuff at the dentist, they are really hurting now. I have Anbesol right here whis is helping.
Now I can reveal something-B. had an online phone interview with LivingSocialdot com and they sent him a ‘Dear John’ email today. Very disappointing. I would apply if I had more experience. I was in the other room listening to him on Thursday and he sounded tired and could have known more about the company. He tends to talk fast on the phone and was asked to repeat what he said several times. Bummer.
We’re going down to Ocean City, NJ just for overnight coming up this weekend to spend time with some former h.s. classmates of mine. One of them opens his home and yard to us-third year I think. Mom and Sean are invited to the shore, but not the get-together, but to enjoy the beach and scenery. Sean may not go, he’s not sure with his work load. I think we will probably go to Atlantic City that evening and head home early the next day.
Anyway, they asked me to bring dessert-will probably do chocolate chip cookies and bring a few bottles of wine. : ) And it’s my mom’s 81st birthday on Friday, so it’s a gift to her too.
