Photo Hunt-Dusty

Standard

I could show you some ‘Dusty Miller’, a pretty gray plant, but I decided to go the true ‘dusty’ route. Like who doesn’t fight with dust in your house weekly? And I’m really allergic to it!
So this is the awesome Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA. Brian and I’ve been twice, once with Sean. It has all these awesome old pieces like the fire engine. Guess they can’t find anyone to dust them on a regular basis maybe?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope to do some creative paper things tomorrow. My head has been full of wondering about cars and such. Sean got his computer today and when we got it home he started to delete stuff. Then he found he couldn’t get on the computer. I called the man who fixed it and told him the issue and about 10 minutes later he called me back and took me through the steps to uninstall and reinstall the network adapter-it then worked-thank you very much! Then the internet explorer wasn’t loading properly. Sean came home for dinner and installed I.E.9 and he’s back to business. I also changed a few setting-start up menu, etc. Fred (the computer guy) said Sean had 8 browsers and 36 things loading on start up! So Sean got rid of a few and I got the start up down to 20 something. I learned a lot over the years. And I keep the 2003 (I think) desktop kicking. : )
I’ll try to write a post again in the next few days. I am disappointed I didn’t decorate more, but I may still add a few bird nests, etc. to the mix. What I have out now are newly bought.
Happy weekend and Easter!
Fly Away
Standard
Fly Away Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I need your vote please-do you think I am missing an element here? Perhaps a canary or another bird? It’s one of those cards I’m not quite sure looks finished.
Not much news-surveyed the yard and cringing at what hasn’t been cleaned up and usually is by now.
Update-thanks for your suggestions about a birdie on this card. I’ll have to look for one.
My Mariner is in the shop again. We dropped it off today (the 19th) and the a/c compressor needs replacing. We are thinking the people who traded it in knew this already and that’s why they came all the way from a part in PA that’s over 2 hours away. The warranty should be in affect. We have a Subaru Forester as a loaner car. Bri insisted that I drive it and it was in manual shift and I didn’t know how to get it in drive. I had to drive it 10 miles shifting it! Geez. (another update-I didn’t have it in ‘D’, but below that-couldn’t figure it out when I was actually driving it). It’s a carbon copy of the Mariner and Escape. By the time I got home I amost had a migraine. We had gone out to eat near where we bought the car and I found an antique mall loaded to the gills. I’ve got to go there again!
We went to a Pizza Hut and it wasn’t that great. Tonight we went to Applebee’s because I needed a decent meal. : )
Dianne and Brian’s Wedding day-27 yrs ago!
Standard
Today is a beautiful sunny day. 27 yrs ago, it was a bit chilly and overcast. I think I look cold in this photo.
There is never smooth sailing in marriage, and I think we all have trying issues like health issues, to loosing a job to getting along with family members.
I’m glad Brian and I met 29 years ago at the wedding of my brother and his first cousin. He’s there for me through thick and thin and I think he has more patience for me than I do for him. I do think I take things in stride better as I’ve had to deal with more health issues over the last 13 years. Thanks Brian. I’m hoping for many more anniversaries. : )
Thumbs up!
A few hours ago, I went back to the eye doctor and a young man (not sure if he was a doctor or assistant) not much older than Sean looked at my optic nerves with a fancy machine. I had to stare at a green star twice while an infrared line went down the screen for 5 seconds. He said everything looked fine, no glaucoma! I feel truly blessed, but also feel for my mom who just had her umpteenth needle in her eye yesterday. She still drives and plans to come out here on Friday. Unfortunately most of us will get cataracts and glaucoma sometime down the road.
Happy 15th to my third nephew Kenny! He’s a talented guitarist, artist and now ‘remodeling’ an old Ford Falcon and doing a great job with that. All that talent started to shine when he was just a little tyke.
Sad to hear of the passing of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. She said she lived her life to the fullest when she was well. She sure did after having 7 husbands! She was a beautiful woman with her violet color eyes and perfect face. I thought ‘National Velvet’ was one of her best movies.
Speaking of movies, my favorite two were named ‘Best in Film’ on ABC last night. ‘Gone with the Wind’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’. : ) They were both made in 1939, 20 yrs before I was born.
Eye see you
Standard
I went to the eye doctor today even though I wasn’t feeling that great. Seems we all are having allergy issues which makes me wonder if the mushroom houses around here were just cleaned out. But there was also a fire not too far away a few nights ago. And the temps keep going up and down and up and down.
Sean and I are trying cinnamon capsules. They are suppose to help regulate your blood sugar and help with that extra baggage around your middle where a lot of people (like me and Bri) tend to hold the fat. I don’t know what Sean is worried about, but I am giving it a try. Yesterday I was really hungry in the morning, so it must be working? I only took one yesterday, but ate a big dinner last night. Maybe ‘things’ are getting stirred up in the tum tum. ; ) I really don’t have a big butt, so if I could lose some around the middle, I could go down a size or so in my slacks as I buy them bigger for my waist. And it’s not good to have a big middle. Brian had lost a lot of his middle, but he put it back on again. All the gunk squeezes on your internal organs.
So back to my eyes-they haven’t changed too much in 3 yrs. I thought I needed some better bifocals, so I am going to get new eyeglasses. I also had a little redness in my left eye, from allergies or infection, so I got one of those tiny bottles of medicine. I do have to go back on Wednesday (rats) because they want to check out my optic nerves more closely. I am sure that’s been done before, but they are checking to see if one is getting stretched out and that means you may have Glaucoma. I am hoping not as this age as I see what my mom is going through and she’s 29 years older than me. I’m thinking positively and it would mean using drops, no big deal.
I do have to get some bloodwork done soon to check my thyroid. My BP was a bit high this morning, but I was feeling weird all over. Good thing I’m taking medicine, but the GP thinks I may have to go from 10mg to 20mg. The best thing I can do is to try and lose weight. My father-in-law took hbp med for years and he lost about 100 pds and he’s not on them anymore. Makes sense.
Such is life…fix it and move on. I’ve got a lot more I’d like to see and do. : )
Here’s one of my latest 4″ x 4″ collages. I just call this ‘Lady and Butterfly’
Sorting the hoarding
Standard
I guess that’s what I can call what I am doing to all the paper stuff I’ve accumulated over the last 4 yrs. It took getting a new desk to get serious about going through the stuff. I’m moving along and when working on an ATC yesterday, I knew where the paper was that I wanted to use and found some neat metal strips that I used that were buried in a bag. When I finish the scraps, I will move on to stickers. They were separated nicely in plastic folders with pockets, but one is bulging, so I have to divide that. Unfortunately my back is complaining from sitting on the floor too long. I can’t see to learn my lesson in that respect.
Tomorrow I do the liquid diet. To tell you the truth, if my back is too bad, I don’t know how I can go through that or the procedure. Sometimes my back greatly improves in one day, so that’s what I’m hoping for as I postponed the procedure twice now. Last night we ran down to the store and I got the ‘yummy’ jello and beef broth for tomorrow.
Does daylight savings bother you at all? I do prefer catching a few more winks than losing them.
Brian’s dad sent home a few things he found that he didn’t want anymore-most are things that we had given them for gifts that they never took out of the box to use. I hate that. I do like the pink glass bowl, so glad to get that back. Then he emptied out the remaining jewelry in her dresser-lots of loose earrings and broken chains. We kind of wish he’d do the garage. That will require a dumpster and at almost 88, he waited too long to do it by himself. My cousin is in the process of cleaning out my uncle’s house. She sent stuff home with my brother, most of which they tossed (expired cans of food!) and cassette tapes. Mom wanted her brother’s pipes and an owl picture he painted which she got. She also got the cap he use to wear all the time. Mom thinks that C. hasn’t even gotten to stuff in the rec room, many are probably old family things. I do have two carved birds and a painting Uncle Don made and gave me, so that is nice.
I better take it easy today and if I sort, spread it out on the dining room table. ; )
French inspired paper fan
Standard
French inspired fan for Art n' Soul-closed
I just finished this fan tonight! Whew as the deadline is tomorrow. I had all the ‘blades’ cut and attached, just needed to figure out how to embellish it. I really like the ‘eyelash’ fibers along the top edge. The lady was part of a paper doll. The rhinestone piece is one of my grandmom’s, but it was missing a few stones, had ‘spares’ and glued them in this. I added ‘amour’-yes, French for love as I think it makes your eyes glide across the fan. : ) Neat stickers for the lettering.
Thanks for asking how our basement was. It only got ‘somewhat’ wet as I didn’t see what was dumped out of the wet vac. I still haven’t gone down to check my stuff-I have mostly plastic boxes now and Brian said he moved a few cardboard ones out of the way.
What the people in Japan are going through is so horrible. I can’t handle anymore looking at the film footage where the houses and cars are swept into the water so quickly. I know there’s been other things happening in Ohio, Oklahoma and flooding in some areas around here too. I haven’t heard anything bad about the west coast. Praying lots!
I have a busy day coming up and will tell you about it tomorrow. Going to a family event and may take the camera.
Have a great weekend!
PS-Sorted mostly scrapbook paper for 2.5 hours today. I still need to resort stickers, ‘scrap’ papers and embellishments. It looks better near the desk, not so much in the middle of the room where the sorting is going on. It’s nice to know where stuff is.
Some shares!
Standard
I’ve been sorting scrapbook paper tonight-4 yrs of collecting it means I have my work cut out for me. I am doing ‘floral’/nature in one box right now. I have to say I really love most of these papers. I have a box with holiday paper too, but I know there’s more in another box which isn’t made for scrapbook paper and I need to rescue it.
On the above card, someone sent me the Easter card and I embellished it abit. The paper napkin background was also a gift.
Then I made this using ‘steampunk’ rubber stamps and made the ‘Eye see you’ card:
Eye see you 4" x 4" Collage card
The copy of the eye doctor ad made the card!
Then I did a few cards with a few of the fabulous collage pieces and papers Carole over at Pea’s Corner just sent me:
1st a 4″ x 4″ collage. This makes 169 out of 365 for me now.
Sweet Cupcake 4" x 4" Collage card
and this ATC:
Be Mine ATC
And finally my ‘Fat Tuesday’ Gumbo dinner:
I used Sweet Italian sausage instead of the salami type. It’s all gone now!
Shrimp and Sausage Fat Tuesday dinner
I made out well at the dentist despite the rough, rainy weather. We have some water in the basement ‘man cave’ bathroom-it comes up through the floor. It’s near my Christmas stuff that I haven’t really finished stacking nicely. I wasn’t in the mood to cook, but made spaghetti with shrimp (yep again) and black olives. I would recommend getting the frozen shrimp (thanks Woman’s World magazine for the idea). Also had spinach salad and tossed in some 3 bean salad I bought at the meat market where I got the sausage. The guys were happy! : )
Another rainy day
Standard
I’m sitting here stewing a bit. I have to go to the dentist at 3 pm and it’s a lousy, rainy day. It’s not too cold, but we have many streams and bridges around here that flood out. It also rained all day Sunday and Sean was at work and had to drive all the way around in a huge circle past the road that lead to his old elementary school, about 7-10 minutes from here at 10:30 at night. I can’t really bite down on the temp. crown which I have had over 3 weeks now.
Sean and I went to see my mom for a few hours late yesterday and we ran down to JoAnn’s as I was looking for those scrapbook storage boxes which they had and they were on sale too! I got three of them, so now I have 4! I would have done that today if I didn’t have to go to the dentist. There’s always tomorrow! I’m still trying to decide what I want to put in all the boxes. I have tons of scrapbook paper, but I should use a box for stampers too. These are great as they stack so nicely.
I need to add some photos soon here too. Later!
Doing the sorting game
Standard
It took Brian a ‘few’ hours to put up the desk on Sunday. The first time, he put the top flush with the window frame (where it is under) and I would have needed a bar stool to use it! He had to lower it about 4 inches and left holes in the wall (don’t faint Zoey) that I will have to fill in. It’s nice as it’s almost four feet long. I can have display things on one end and work at the other. I can’t show you it yet as he finished about 1/2 before I had to start dinner last night-stuff is still all over.
Here is a long shot! Around the desk is still messy.
Long view of desk with both drawers opened
Work space of new desk & one drawer
I was checking out ink pads here and then made a background for an ATC.
My mom got me this great square box, perfect for scrapbook paper and I need a few more. When she remembers where she got it, I will sort the papers by color and holiday. The two drawers hold a ton of stuff even though they aren’t wide. My old desk had one drawer and stuff got stuff in it all the time. One side is for ink the other is glue and glitter.
Sean had some electrical issues (I guess) with his car. The light that said ‘door ajar’ was staying on and he couldn’t set the alarm and had to unscrew the dome light inside. It’s nice to jump on the internet and see what others may have written about the same issue. Seemed there were a few others who had issues with their Tauruses! They said to use electrical spray on the doors (Bri used ‘something’) and to disconnect and reconnect the battery. At first it didn’t do anything, but when Sean got to work, he said he could set the alarm! We had terrible downpours yesterday, so perhaps that made the issue. My brother the mechanic knows about it in case Sean still has issues.
Then my mom was worried about her little mix terrier dog named Kelsey. He was not being his old playful self, wouldn’t come up on the sofa and was shaking and disoriented-but he was eating! So if I was her, if he had stopped eating, then I would have been more worried. So after a lot of tests and moola, the vet thinks Baxter, the Dalmation really put Kelsey in his place. Gee, wonder what Baxter did, sit on Kelsey?
Paper Goodness from Carole
I am so happy to see Carole making these little pieces of art.
This week is kind of the calm before the storm. I do have a dental appt on Thursday, when we are suppose to get a lot of rain, but I’ll be glad to get the crown. Then I have a bridal shower on Saturday and maybe the Philly flower show on Sunday, but we’ll see. Tests on the 16th; more bloodwork the following week for my GP. It’s always something!
Have a pleasant week!
