Watching the Debbie Reynolds auction Live!

Standard

I heard about this when Debbie and her daughter Carrie Fisher were on ‘The View’ a few weeks back. You can probably catch some of it here.
Deb is doing pretty good with Marilyn Monroe costumes fetching over $500,000 each for two of them. Marilyn’s ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ dress (pictured here) got over $1 million! Even the dress that Judy Garland wore only in the screen test for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ sold for $910,000! I’ll try and grab some photos. It’s going fast, but It’s the first of many as Debbie has over 3,500 costumes plus many more items (next in December)!

These were only used in the screen test for the movie if I recall correctly and sold for $510,000!

The biggest seller (I’m updating here) is the Marilyn Monroe ‘Subway’ dress from ‘The Seven Year Itch’ that fetched $4.6 million!

Red Trumpet Espalier trained vines

I went for a much needed walk at Longwood Gardens today. I will always take my camera! I didn’t realize a few weeks ago that this espalier was trumpet vines. I have some orange ones growing over the shed. I haven’t uploaded all my photos yet (something going on at Flickr). Here are a few to share.

Luncheon napkin takes on a different use

Standard

I used a napkin for the background on this card. I had started with the baby and then purchased a package of these napkins at Tuesday Morning for a whopping 80 cents.
Today I rested a bit and then shopped a bit . I needed a few things at Dollar General and food stuff at Big Lots.
Sean came home from work with a push mower for Brian as a Father’s Day gift as he really needed a new one. Brian was very surprised!

Greek food and veggie patch

I just realized I didn’t post our food from the Wilmington, DE food festival. We splurged and got a variety of pastries too. Compared to what we ate at Chili’s tonight, this was diet food! (Chili’s is so salty! Since I have watched what I’ve been eating better-I try, it was hard to eat the chips).
Here’s what this photo is: Mousaka-Eggplant and potato casserole, Spanakopita-spinach pie, Dolmades-stuff grapes leaves, meatballs and Tyropita-cheese filled pie. Sean never ate his half of the raspberry tart and Baklava so I tossed them today. : (
Sean and I went to go to ‘Hidden Acres’ Greenhouse today and right when we got there, the Amish buggy was pulling out of the driveway-it was closed for a holiday! Arrgghh. : ) So we went to the thrift shop and I got a few little things, plus I asked the lady about consigning things-15 items allowed a week-60 mine/40 theirs commission. I’m going to get stuff together including that old art desk of mine. I have tons of stuff and it’s easier than having a yard sale (though I still want to have one!)
Sean and I went to Walmart too-bought a few plants and seeds, also some groceries.
My veggie patch is finally in. We bought a box of stuff-onions, garlic, rhubarb and potatoes for $2 at Lowes. I planted all that except the rhubarb today, they really don’t give you that many bulbs/tubers. I had major weeding to do first. I added zinnias and smaller sunflowers near the fence. Then tonight I planted the zucchini and cucumbers and a few gourds. I planted the potatoes in Sean’s old tire garden and tossed some gourd seeds in that too. I love to plant seeds to see what comes up. Walmart has lovely tomato plants in containers for $10 so we got one of those too. Also poked nasturtiums all around the place.
I want to do some edging in a few areas. Gotta burn off those calories!

Sightseeing in Baltimore

Standard

I certainly had to make a collage card honoring Baltimore. My guys are great at grabbing brochures, so it was the assembling part that was the challenging. I had a rip off calendar with ships, so that came in useful.
We had a good rain last night, so the ground was nice and soft. I’m starting garden maintenance. Well…maybe. Sean has had a garden for years and lately he is mostly buying the plants and only putting in a few. It was looking bad, so I went to town and planted 18 impatiens he had bought plus a few marigolds! That took me away from the veggie corral which needs a little attention right now. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.
The lilies are starting to bloom now along with the Red Hot Pokers. It’s nice to have perennials blooming each month.
Brian came out and planted a few pots of perennials that were hanging around for a few weeks. I have some annuals to finish planting and need to finish with a clean-up project on the back patio.
Busy busy!

Speck against the sky

Standard

Last night I sat down at my art desk and looked at some of the saved ‘finds’ I had there. I thought the artwork on the pop-up tissue box was just too cute, so I used it here! I was going to make the bird out of an old book page, but I forget where I put the pages, so I used this nice paper. The music verse seemed to work too.

So little Roamy is flying off to Arizona now! After I mailed him, I hit the ‘Tuesday Morning’ store where they had lots of things for 50% off! I didn’t go hog wild, but I had fun looking for things. I got this pretty tan sweater/shawl with tiny sequins sewn through it for only $12. I know I will wear it a lot. I got Sean a nice navy blue polo shirt (he wears that color with tan pants for work) for $5. Some things I bought weren’t on sale, but I will take a photo of this gorgeous ‘crystal’ ball you hang up. I want to pick the right spot for it.
I’ve lost at least 4-5 pounds since the 25th of May. I know the first 5 pounds is usually water weight in most cases, but since I’ve taken that long to lose that weight, maybe it isn’t! The hardest part is keeping the sugar intake low, followed by salt. And figuring out if I did enough ‘exercise’. Mine is usually gardening and walking. I want to start doing floor exercises again. A friend from high school’s wife lost 50 pounds in 6 months, but she joined the ‘Y’ too. I’m still wanting to try ‘Snap Fitness’ where Sean goes, but that’s more money.
I have a feeling I better get looking for a PT job. Between the dentist, hospital and regular bills, it’s hard for us.
It’s suppose to rain a bit tomorrow. It rained all around us last night, but we didn’t get one drop. I was out watering this morning. Come on rain!

Welcome Roamy to SE Pennsylvania-mushroomland!

Lots of Mushrooms too!, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Roamy arrived from Canada, nodded his cap and disappeared out in my yard for the longest time. I knew exactly where he was-with the gnomes and fairies. This ‘special’ group resides in the town (outskirts) next to Kennett Square, ‘The Mushroom Capital of the World’ where there is a Mushroom festival every September-the 26th year is this year! There are lots of ‘magical’ mushrooms in our garden! Roamy is posing here on one.
Look at this interesting group!

Roamy in particularly liked this guy as he looked so ‘cool’ with his shades and cocktail. Said he loves Jimmy Buffet-no kidding! : )
Roamy knows I love gardening and he said he wants to be a florist-so he stopped and smelled the Sweet Bay Magnolia:

Checked out some petunias:

And wondered if he could take some of these viney things with him so he could pretend to be Jack in the Beanstalk:

He visited a girl and bunnies in the herb patch:

After his tour of our yard, he was swooped up and taken on a weekend trip to Baltimore, Maryland.
Here we go!
He had lots of fun and saw interesting sites:
First we took him to the 27th floor of Baltimore’s World Trade Center. He was a bit scared until Mr. C. showed him the wonderful Baltimore sites!

He look bigger than the cars way below:

And look at the snazzy Oriole jersey and hat!
We here are big Phillies fans (just to let you know).
He saw the sign for the Flag house, but we didn’t go in as it was closed.

We went to the Baltimore Aquarium but Roamy hide in my camera bag as he didn’t want to be fish food!

Our last stop was Ft. McHenry where the battle of 1814 to ward off the British inspired Francis Scott Key to write the national anthem “The Star Spangled Banner’ when he saw the flag still flying overhead. See the cannons behind him, there were lots of them!

So Roamy would have been happy to stay here in PA with all my special pals:

Wall of Pockets

The Terrain Wall Pockets of plants
I went down to my hometown to get my mom to stay over as she has a hearing aid appt at a place that is local to me. I almost didn’t get this shot as the mirror phone protector was making it hard to capture this shot. Aren’t these neat? I think they are made of fabric. I guess I should take a closer look next time I go. My mom looked at was this huge hanging basket that was $85! This place has a display at the Philadelphia Flower each year and I love to see their color combos and other things. You just can’t touch the prices-$5-$8 for small plants is my limit. I got a Coleus, a Throatwart , a black ornamental pepper and a fern on sale. Mom got a black Petunia and a yellow Lantana.

Tomorrow the temp will be around 100 and the three of us (Bri, Sean and me) had tummy issues-from our dinner last night so I hope we are all better then. Sean and I are peppier, but Bri is still blah. We had wheat pasta and a salad with alfalfa sprouts on top (the lid said they were tested for e.coli-so I hope that’s so).
