Thumbs up!

Standard

A few hours ago, I went back to the eye doctor and a young man (not sure if he was a doctor or assistant) not much older than Sean looked at my optic nerves with a fancy machine. I had to stare at a green star twice while an infrared line went down the screen for 5 seconds. He said everything looked fine, no glaucoma! I feel truly blessed, but also feel for my mom who just had her umpteenth needle in her eye yesterday. She still drives and plans to come out here on Friday. Unfortunately most of us will get cataracts and glaucoma sometime down the road.

Happy 15th to my third nephew Kenny! He’s a talented guitarist, artist and now ‘remodeling’ an old Ford Falcon and doing a great job with that. All that talent started to shine when he was just a little tyke.
Sad to hear of the passing of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. She said she lived her life to the fullest when she was well. She sure did after having 7 husbands! She was a beautiful woman with her violet color eyes and perfect face. I thought ‘National Velvet’ was one of her best movies.
Speaking of movies, my favorite two were named ‘Best in Film’ on ABC last night. ‘Gone with the Wind’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’. : ) They were both made in 1939, 20 yrs before I was born.

Just Passing Through

Standard

I had a lot of fun making this card. When I was tidying up, I ran across the bandana print on the bottom and remembered I had the kids in their cowpoke outfits. The map of Montana is the curtains, like they are on a stage.
The desk is assembled, but alas, I didn’t know I needed to buy the hardware kit too! We may have some of those toggle screws because by itself it weighs 40 pounds. I think Zoey’s hubby would be cringing at having to drill those kind of screws in the wall. I will use the two drawers for mainly ink pads and stampers. I think I will need to get a new file cabinet as the plastic one I have is awful! The drawers stick and I can’t get them closed most of the time.
I just went and got a free prep kit this afternoon (saved me $40), but my tests will be on the 16th now! Next week is crazy busy for me-the Phila. Flower show, the dentist, a family event plus a trip to my late Uncle Don’s house to pick some of his things out to keep. His daughter and her family (my one cousin hadn’t seen or spoken to my uncle for years) were over there cleaning out closets. His daughter said there are some trunks in the attic that may be stuff that was my grandfathers! It will be neat to see what’s in there. I have a bird painting and carved bird he gave me already. My cousin said most of his clothes were sent to Haiti. I ‘dislike’ doing this and I sure hope it doesn’t smell like pipe smoke in his house or I will lose it. The house will be sold ‘as is’. I think I would have gone to IKEA and had them redo the kitchen and maybe get some new things for the bathrooms, just to modernize it a bit.
My house smells like hyacinth right now as I bought some potpourri at the
Hallmark store this afternoon. It is smelling a bit strong now, but I know that stuff will fade out. Nice to have a spring like smell in the house.
Here’s the Lemon Almond Pound cake I made and it’s gone already!
Lemon Almond pound cake
I want to make some chocolate chip cookies next.
I watched the Oscars as I did see a few of the movies nominated-‘Toy Story 3’ and ‘The Social Network’. It’s neat to see a few 50 yr olds win-Melissa Leo and Colin Firth.
I’d love to attend a fancy event like that once in my life-lol

Collages galore!

Standard

I finished up three more collages, but didn’t do the one for the 9th as I wanted to do a bit of cross stitching on an older project which I did while watching the special on TLC about the royal weddings.
I wanted this to be a travel collage and I ran across this sticker with a quote by former Monty Python player Michael Palin. He was my favorite in that group and my mom said he looks like her dad. I had pulled the map out to use and saw that it had Sudbury on it where my blogger pal Carole lives! I found a photo of Michael pointing to a globe-not the best, but fit the card. Not sure why my printer has line issues through some dark photos.
Then I was looking through a bag of die-cuts I got at that cool scrapbooking store in Bucks County and ran across the copy of this advertising-have no idea what it’s for. Made him a bell hop:
At Your Service 4" x 4" Collage Card
I printed out a group of Winslow paintings I had gotten as freebies from Dover Pubs. I just embellished it a little:
Tending flowers 4" x 4" Collage Card
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Going to get my hair done later, go to Trader Joe’s and then hope to get my mom out for a nice dinner. She is still having some issues that she may have to get help with resolving. Something is not right.
It’s suppose to snow tomorrow. Good day to get the rest of the decorations packed-I did so well on Saturday, I just need another hour to get the rest done and organized.
Sad news about a former Chesco’s family member
Standard
When I got on Facebook this morning my news link said that the 9-year old girl what was killed when Congresswoman Gabby Griffins was shot was the granddaughter of former Phillies baseball manager Dallas Green. Her name was Christina Green and she was also born on Sept. 11, 2001 to make this a sadder event. Dallas lived a few towns over in West Grove but my friend John thinks he moved to Rising Sun, Md. about 1/2 hour away. Dallas is definitely a local hero and his baseball shirt even hung in the local Applebee’s at one time.
Saying prayers for the family.
Seriously…I’m in shock!
I got the newest issue of ‘Peeps’ (let’s call it that) Magazine as it featured ‘people’ who have lost a ton of weight. Now most of the ones they showed were in their 20s-30s and me being in my early 50s, I wanted to see if anyone this age could loss weight because of having hormonal issues, etc. Then I ran across the article on Drew ‘Price is Right’ Carrey! Holy cow-he looks like a different person:
Amazing-he went for about 246 to 180. Losing his older brother was a wake up call for him. Though he’s a guy, I wanted to share.
I did my first set of ‘floor exercises’ in a week or so as I haven’t been well because of my sinus condition. I went to the pharmacy to get my hbp medicine and wanted to see what I could take as regular Suda*fed isn’t good-the kind with PE in it is ok. I came home and took some and feel so much better. I do want to lose 20 pounds to start. We love our carbs like pasta and bread, but I guess I’ll have to change to whole wheat pasta, etc. I am urging Brian to do some kind of exercise as he is getting a tummy again and snacking endlessly.
Will do some walking as weather permits, but I really want to not take hbp medicine though the pharmacist said it’s so common now you wouldn’t believe it.
Sir Paul the honoree is teary-eyed
Standard
Last night the show ‘The Kennedy Center Honors’ was on and Sir Paul McCartney was one of the honorees. It was neat to see James Taylor briefly sing in honor of Sir Paul as I had seen both of them this year in concert. James was the first singer signed to The Beatles’ Apple record label. I’m lucky to have a copy of this.
Some art shares
I actually worked on 4 of these Sunday as a prelude to baking cookies. I got one batch of cookies done-a ‘crackle’ sugar cookie that baked too rapidly. They aren’t that pretty, but nice and crisp and probably good with a cuppa tea. I have the batter mixed up for some others that I will make later.
This is a ‘Steampunk’ card and it looks crooked on the top, but it really isn’t. Steampunk is based on the Jules Verne era, but the twist is you make it a bit more modern.
Winter Beauty 4" x 4" Collage Card
Then I was looking through some Christmas things and ran across a few of the same Christmas cards-the main design was a floral collage! That made a nice background for the next collage-I added the lady and some embellishments.
Screen Stars (Lana Turner) 4" x 4" Collage Card
I bought a few things at A.C.*Moore Saturday night and one item as a felt filmstrip piece. I remembered I scanned an old movie magazine of my mom’s that featured actress Lana Turner. I think it was from the early 1950s. My mom, grandmom (I forget who else) had seen Lana Turner at a taping of ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ in the 1970s. She was a bit flaky on the show for some reason saying that Clark Gable (if I recall) had bad breath. Hmmm. That show was out of Philadelphia.
I finished stitching an ornament and will try to assembly her tomorrow. I started it last year. So now I will pick out something else. I have enough Christmas ornament charts to fill 3 trees. : )
Princess Kate…next year!
Standard
I’m happy to hear that Prince William ‘finally’ became engaged to his steady of what is it, 8 yrs. It happened last month, but they just told the public today. She is wearing Diana’s sapphire ring-hope it isn’t jinxed, but again, after all those years he should know! : )
I have that neat crown scrapbook paper and added the young lady under one. She’s really a fairy princess what-a-be. : )
I had a very restless night last night. I forgot to take a Tylenol before the fasting period began for the bloodwork. Big mistake. I had dragged about 14 grocery bags in earlier and was feeling that. I got myself to the doc’s office and was in and out in 15 minutes. Please keep me in your thoughts as it’s been a while. Bri had bloodwork last week and hasn’t heard, so he’ll probably get his results in the mail.
It was a good day for a nap-rainy and blah, so that’s what I did.
I got up refreshed to enjoy Barbra Streisand on Oprah. I love her estate in California:
Gorgeous home and pond in foreground
And Babs and Bob are together again for their 1st interview ever! Did you not love ‘The Way We Were’ too?
Redford and Streisand together again
A walk around Kennett Square PA’s 25th Mushroom Festival
Standard
It was an overcast, but not so warm day today. Sean and I went up to the next town over and got a large sampling of ‘fair’ food to bring home. We saw that Aetna and Food Network were sponsors and heard Bobby Flay had been there (after looking at the story about this, I believe this wasn’t so). Today lovely Oklahoma native Sunny Anderson from the Food Network Show ‘Cooking for Real’ was there. She was very sweet to meet.
Sean got a big frosty mug of cream (vanilla) soda that you could get ‘free’ refills on. I know he wanted one last year, but the price and the bees were bad. It was still pricey, but it was a huge drink and he brought the mug home.
The food haul-two cups of mushroom soup (for me) from Longwood Gardens. They forgot to give me a mushroom shaped cookie I paid for. I figure I am going to LG for free now and we had to park far away or I’d go get it. Got a springroll from Talula’s Table (the chef had been on Martha Stewart) which had a nice amount of lemon grass in it. We also got a noodle and mushroom dish that Sean took with him to work and he ate a huge sausage sandwich for lunch! It’s all about the food, baby!
Since we parked down a street with century old homes, I snapped a few shots of them to share.
