Winner of Thread board and a little I Recommend

Standard

Sunday, I was busy getting things ready to mail for the Flickr swaps I am in. I also wrote out a card for a little boy named Devin from ‘Make A Child Smile‘. Alex, the web mistress, is only adding a new child as they get approved, and they’ll be up for 30 days. Justine was just added Sunday.
I only had 3 stitchers interested in the thread board, so I asked Brian to pick from the letters I gave him, and he picked ‘L’-congrats Lisa! Please send me your address and I’ll mail off your prize shortly.
My recommend for the day-definitely get yourself some kind of ‘paint’ program for your computer other then what came with it. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and Adobe Photoshop and have so much fun with them. There are free online places that don’t do as much as these, but I recommend Picnik which is an affiliate program of Flickr. A link appears above your photo on Flickr, so you edit your photos there. It has helped me with so many of my photos-mostly the exposure and color saturation.
Here is an example of my collages:

Paint shop programs really bring out your creativity-and as I say in my sidebar-use the right side of your brain.

Thursday Thunks

You can play along too here.
1. Obama tattoos. What do you think of people who got one?
It’s their skin-if they like needles, more power to them. From another perspective-they are surely marking history in a mostly permanent way.
2. How many blogs do you read a day, and do you always comment?
Depends-yesterday, hardly any. Tonight maybe about 5 or so. I do try to comment as the mentioned 5 almost always do on my blog.
3. Do you know to swim?
I can, could be better. I do a mean back float.
4. Describe your favorite shirt.
It’s pale pink, a small ribbed double knit with long sleeves. It has a little sew in it (I darned a hole) and it is really comfy.
5. What is one thing that is ALWAYS on your grocery list? Extra points for imagination and creativity.
The second part doesn’t really go with the first-you know what you buy. I guess you mean other than milk or eggs. Hmmmm….how about Mini Pringles (I share them with the cat). Have you seen how cute a mini Pringle is?
6. Have you ever done any acting?
Personal life-yes! Ha-to get my own way?! I had a Play Production class in high school. I’m trying to remember if Paul DiMeo, the carpenter from ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ was in it-really! I did do a few scenes, one of which I was pregnant!
7. I just made a delicious smelling dinner with mystery meat. Will you have some?
No thank you… I just said I was ‘this close’ to being a vegetarian except hamburgers are so good!
8. If you are driving in the rain and you see a person walking along the road, do you intentionally try to splash them? No-if I didn’t like them, it’s a possibility.
9. Yearbooks- do you still have any from school? Of course! I remember many of my former classmates and have over 30 as Facebook pals.
10. What kind of shampoo do you use? Mostly Garnier Fructis in the lime green bottle.
11. And just to counter Ber’s first question from last week…. What’s the hottest temps you have experienced? Hmmmm…at least 103.

Having some family issues yet again. Looks like mom is agreeing to help and things will be a-changing.
Bri was not feeling well at all on Wed., jittery, short of breath and came home early. He went to the doctor’s and today is getting a chest x-ray! He doesn’t smoke or is around smokers. I haven’t really seen him gasping for air, but he says he feels funny. I think he is exhausted from not sleeping well and the anxiety over his dad lately. Wish him well.

Barack Obama’s Inauguration Speech

My fellow Americans, today is a Prosperous day. You have shown the world that “hope” is not just another word for “garbage”, and that “change” is not only something we can believe in again, but something we can actually stomp.

Today we celebrate, but let there be no mistake – America faces green and delicious challenges like never before. Our economy is sparkly. Americans can barely afford their mortgages, let alone have enough money left over for toes. Our healthcare system is flat. If your stomach is sick and you don’t have insurance, you might as well call a plumber. And America’s image overseas is tarnished like a glass hat. But rowing together we can right this ship (not bad!), and set a course for morgue (yikes!).

Finally, I must thank my Plump family, my skinny campaign volunteers, but most of all, I want to thank Republicans for making this historic occasion possible (another good one). Of course, I must also thank you, President Bush, for years of hitchhiking the American people. Without your smoothing efforts, none of this would have been possible (hee hee).

Post your brilliant speech in our community message forum and it might get featured on Atom.com.

We had a few inches of powdery snow yesterday. I went out and got some fresh air and took the little camera around for snaps. As I was uploading my first patch, we had a gorgeous peachy sunset:

I did more basement organizing-the dust is so bad I was coughing with a dust mask on!
I’ll be doing a post on this special day-sure of it!

Thursday Thunks

Standard

I’m trying out different memes. Let’s see how this one works. You can certainly play along too! It’s me stuff, ya know?!
1. Whats the coldest temps you’ve experienced? Something below zero.
2. Whats for dinner tonight? Stopped at Trader Joe’s yesterday, so probably a premade pasta dish or pulled pork.
3. Would you consider this job in Australia? It’s gorgeous there-but they only need one person, bummer-that would get lonely.
4. What was your favorite subject in high school? Creative Writing and Home Ec gets an honorable mention.
5. How many hours a day is your tv on? It’s off and on…I’d say at least 8-10, but I’m not always looking at it, it’s background noise sometimes.
6. Have you ever received an award?
Not an Oscar perhaps, some awards in school for the honor roll, art, in jr college for my grade point average.
7. Whats your mousepad look like?
It’s brown with blue squares-each square has squares within squares- from Target.
8. Do you think Bud should do the Thursday Thunk meme?
I’m new at this-who is Bud?
9. How many browser tabs do you have open right now? one
10. If you are a parent, have you or did you ever put Vicks VapoRub on your children under the age of 2? I may have, but I’d say he didn’t let me. You aren’t suppose to put Vick’s near your nose which seems to be the problem with the study they did.
11. If you had to pick one insect to infest your house for 1 day and after that day they would just suddenly vanish, which insect infestation would you pick? Butterflies, if you mean they would just vanish from my house, not existence.
swallowt
12. What color is your underwear that you are wearing right at this moment? The ones they sell at Big Lots that no one wants with the little flowers all over them.
13. What was the last think you watched on tv? Ellen Degeneres Show (I did this earlier in the evening)
14. What are your plans for the 4th of July this year? I have no idea-potato salad will probably be on the menu-maybe burgers.
15. Tell us about one absolutely wonderful thing that happened to you as a teenager and every time you think of it, it brings a smile to your face. My brother gave me a surprise birthday party when I was 16 or 17. I even had a band play for me.
16. What product could you sell someone based on your love for it? Chocolate-but why would I want to do that? A ‘product’ I love is Oxiclean as it gets out spots-even in my Swanstone sink.
Found this on the Rainforest donation site (I think):

A different blogging approach

Standard

(Post renamed and edited)

I think I’ll just be posting here mostly with the help of memes-to supplement blah days. I’m having more fun on Facebook and Flickr lately and it’s hard to talk about my trials and tribulations and keep people interested. I’ll still check out my pals’ blogs to see what they are up too, but blogging is getting old to me, and I need a fresher approach. I don’t have the time to read more than a few blogs a day either. I have so much on my plate with the internet. I want to do more organizing in my house and more art projects. Many of my blogger pals aren’t updating that frequently. I’m not on a bunch of specific boards, so my comments here are limited. I worked two hours on this post-not one comment. Ever since then I question why I do this. I thought I had some neat photos to reshow. On the above mentioned places, I get almost immediate feedback, a big plus in my opinion. I’m lucky to get one comment here, unless I do a meme. I guess my blog is too personal? Why do other people get 50 comments about a photo of food and a recipe. I don’t get it? So here’s probably some personal stuff that I may not be including in the future:
I may have to take my mom to the doctor today as she is still sick, though moving around. I don’t like her raspy cough.
I got my tooth fixed yesterday and it’s still in, knock wood.
Maybe I’ll have more to share when the weather gets nicer. : )
Update-I went to my mom’s for a few hours and she looks pretty blah and has an occasional raspy cough. I don’t know if that’s a good thing-I think she needs to use the expectorant I gave her. I made her soup and tuna salad, started her car and took her trash down. I left and ran into Trader Joe’s for dinner-got Mandarin orange chicken and Indonesian rice-good!
Thanks for your comments. I know who my friends are. Though I’d like new ones, I don’t know who you are unless you comment.

A little ‘I recommend’

Standard

Not having the best 12 hours-I was sitting here around 10:45 last night and a huge piece of my tooth on the top right broke off. I think it started breaking off at dinner, as I felt something sharp in my mouth. It doesn’t hurt as it had a root canal done on it, but it’s a bit annoying and I have to eat all on the left side. I called and left a message at the office last night, hoping I’d have first dibs on the Monday appointments. Crossing fingers.

My ‘I recommend’ is to try home remedies for simple cures. Yesterday my eyes were puffy and I remembered reading about teabags helping reduce that. I got my used teabag out of the kitchen and kept changing it from eye to eye for about 15 minutes. Lo and behold, it helped! I use zinc oxide on the slight eczema caused by the nose piece on my glasses. Vaseline is good for taking off make-up. A tiny dab up each nostril helps in the wintertime (I use to get terrible nosebleeds when I was little). If my tummy is off, I chew an acidolphilus tablet or eat the Activa yogurt to build up the good bacteria there.

Dr. Phil’s wife Robin was on Rachael Ray and puts eggs whites on her face to tighten it up-eek-but if it works!
Do you have any you swear by?

Could you keep my mom in your thoughts as she sounds like she is getting a doozie of a cold. She just got up to make herself breakfast and her friend is coming over, but her being by herself makes me nervous.

We didn’t get any snow, just some sleet. It’s warming up a bit to the higher 30s today. According to my Farmer’s Almanac calendar, last night was the Full Wolf Moon, it was too overcast here to see.
Here’s an ATC I made yesterday:
