Tomato and Zucchini explosion!

Standard

I just picked these a few hours ago! I think I’ll be making salsa and freezing some Romas tomorrow. Just moving the garden did this. Unfortunately, I’m getting ‘nibbler invaders’ who are sneaking in and eating pieces out of so many tomatoes. I can’t tell you how many I tossed today! We have been picking them when they are still not quite ripe. I am seeing stink bugs in the garden, but I think squirrels, etc are having a snack. You can see a nibble out of one of the Romas.

A fine feathered friend

Yesterday when I was lazying around I was sitting at the dining room table and saw movement in the tree through the window and it was directly in front of me! I saw it was one of the birds we have been hearing and hardly seeing across the street! I think it was a young she (from the bird guide book) and ran to get the camera and add the zoom lens. Here is one of the better captures:

At first I thought it was a Peregrine Falcon, but it is really close to the Cooper’s Hawk! We have a development 1/2 mile down the road called ‘Falcon’s Lair’. But the funny thing is on the way to shopping yesterday, we passed a Lane called ‘Cooper’s Hawk’ in Chadds Ford! Go figure. I guess she was watching the bank and stream for dinner!
It’s really a pleasant day out and I’ve been mostly inside messing with uninstalling and installing software. I finally got the EOS digital to work on my computer, but I didn’t want to load it up with a bunch of software and photos. I guess it’s good to have the camera software, which doesn’t seem to work. I had to go to the control panel and it found the camera and then imported the photos. I would like to take the 460 mbs of photo stuff off if that’s what I have to do everytime.
I have an issue that I hope goes away before our trip since I have to sit a lot. I have had this issue off and on for years. Pain in the…opps! ; )
And here it the Moonflower in bloom. It’s had a few more, but I see Mr. Catepillar nibbled some of them…

It smells nice too! Maybe I will go and take a cushion to enjoy a little of this low humidity day! : )

Sean got a new Laptop!

Standard

I think we sort of solved the issue with the PC. Sean bought himself a new Gateway laptop at Best Buy today! We usually go out on his day off (which I really look forward too). We went to Borders first as they are all closing. Not too impressed by the markdowns. I got a Cape Cod Garden magazine, a famous artist book and a tin of beautiful postcards. We then ate at Chili’s and hit Marshalls (I need to stay out of those stores, but the sales are so good!). I asked if we could stop at Best Buy to see if they had the ‘network’ card for PC and they didn’t. We started to look at laptops and he decided to get a new one as he will be starting school and his is 4 yrs old. It was on a whim. It’s pretty fast. We had to get him hooked up to the wireless and Norton and he was up and running. He has a built in video camera and chatted with a pal in Mexico. It gave him a real boost.

PC is having issues

Standard

Yesterday afternoon it got really dark around 12 and we had a downpour with lightning and thunder. I was in the family room and the power went off right after some electronic equipment made a terrible squealing sound. The power was off for a minute or two, but the laptops wouldn’t work for about 5 hours. Brian tried to get an internet connection with the PC and was getting a message about something being unplugged. He rebooted it, etc. and nothing. To make a long story short, looks like it needs some kind of network card that may have gotten fried. It should be around $10 if we are lucky and if that’s the problem. I do all my photo uploading on the ‘big’ computer as we call it, so I will resort to camera phone shots or photos on Flickr (I have over 11k there to chose from). Hope it is just the card. He can get on Windows.
We had two powerful storms go through! Wow-what a wild day weatherwise!

Crepe Myrtle and other things

Crepe Myrtle in full bloom, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I always enjoy seeing the Crepe Myrtle bloom this time of year. It covers up my garden window in the kitchen and Brian cuts it way back after it blooms. I did that with the butterfly bush last fall and it’s big as ever again, but not very healthy looking.
Here is the Moonflower about to open…it’s kinda foggy and mysterious looking:
Moonflower bud with fogged lens
I did take a photo when it was opened up pretty much, but didn’t upload it yet.
I potted up some baby coleus today and was in a dripping sweat after only 20 minutes!
Baby Coleus plants
I did this card a few days back. I have a book on France and wanted to use a map for the background:
Kick up your heels 4" x 4" Collage Card
I did a couple more collages today after dinner as I had some new stampers I wanted to try.

A former high school alumni opened a page on Facebook called ‘You grew up in Media, Pa if…’ and within a day there were over 200 of us reminsicing about the old days. You should start a page like that too!
Bloodwork tomorrow…I am protesting some of it as I never took the diruetic and he wanted to check to see if things were effected because of it. My poor mom was not allowed to have any more pain pills (she ran out) that she has been taking for over 8 years and she was going through withdrawal on Friday! I haven’t heard her that miserable since she had Shingles! I didn’t know what to do. Finally my brother called the emergency number in the evening and he went and got some for her the next morning. He gave me an earful for not going down, but I know that medicine is the only kind that will help. She’s had shots, physical therapy, etc. I mean come on, she’s almost 81, so let her be comfortable. And my brother making her clean the basement (lifting and leaning over too much), caused her to have to take more pills. The doctor said no more physical ‘labor’ like that.

The fun continues

(The above video is 25 yrs old-Sean will be 25 in October!)
Longwood Garden hosts a number of popular singers and performers in their outdoor ampitheatre. A few years ago we saw Boz Scaggs. This year we are seeing Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers! A pal from high school said he is really good live, so I decided to get the tickets today. I don’t think there are more than 300 seats, so it’s a small venue. This is after the couple of days at the different beach areas and before Beatlemania. My mom wants to take a daytrip to Atlantic City near her birthday. It’s about 85 or so miles one way for us, but I remember doing it a few times, once when Sean was little. My high school class also has a reunion in Ocean City, NJ either late September or early October. We haven’t been going because of our vehicles, so now since we have more reliable ones, we can hopefully go.
After Beatlemania, I want to have a big yard sale (gotta pay for all these fun things). I haven’t had one for years. I tried the thrift shop, but it isn’t worth driving back and worth there for a few dollars of sales.

A few phone camera shares

The tomatoes! They are getting ripe now. Thank goodness we moved the garden as they are as big as softballs (some of them). The Romas are very chunky and meaty.

The color is off-these are certainly more red than orangish yellow.
Sean and I were driving around the other end of the county and found a Big Lots tonight! I happen to find some Crocs for only $15 and they are comfy!

This was Cosmo wanting to get up on my lap-nothing new!

I got the voucher info for the Beatlemania trip and I had to call the hotel to make arrangements. I could pick any day I wanted, so I picked a Saturday! Sean can come! He may not hear any of the bands, but how can you not even if you were standing near the gate? We can take turns anyway. He may take the Metro to DC or he could certainly go to Alexandria. The hotel looks like it has enough to it to keep anyone busy. Can’t wait!

Tip from Pinterest ‘pinner’-when you get strawberries, add them to diluted vinegar (white or apple) and you can rinse them or not. Suppose to get the bacteria off them and make them last longer. I’m trying it, but I’m also making some strawberry pops today.
