I just got a call from the store ‘Peebles’ (after almost a week) and was offered the part-time job! Hooray! It’s a mile away and I get to dress up a bit. I have to be sure to have comfy shoes for standing. I’m really surprised. No babysitting!! : )
Words can’t describe
We are in shock over the events that have come to the surface concerning the defensive coordinator on the Penn State football team. What he was thinking….and doing…truly wacko. It put a very bad light on the entire University. Sorry that those who knew didn’t really do anything like they should have done right away. So now the president of the University has stepped down and Joe Paterno, at 84 yrs old and 61 yrs with the school is going out with a tarnished record on his long career. So that’s what I have to say. Sean sees PSU as his second home he loved it up there.
Just hanging around…
I thought I’d have a new dishwasher by now. It’s 5:10 and I’m still waiting for the guys to get here. At 4:30 they said they had to go to a main drag in Delaware to retrieve it. At 3:30 I had called to see where they were and he said he’d be here by 4:15 or 4:30. I guess he didn’t know the dishwasher wasn’t in the back of his truck then? The guy who called wasn’t the same one who called this morning or who I called at 3:30. I didn’t get to enjoy one of the last warm days of 2011 (it was about 70 degrees). All I did was sort out papers. This leaves me time to at least now go through craft books maybe tonight!
Update-here is my new Kenmore-it’s more sturdy than the Maytag!
Two guys who were wet behind the ears installed it, and I hope all the hoses are tight, etc. They left water under the sink (from when they disconnected the hoses there) and the big box from this one. I think they were younger than Sean!
I applied for another babysitting job-3:30 to 6 every day. I’m getting frustrated now. I can view my stats on Care and 8 different people have looked at my profile 50+ times. What gives? A few ladies on Facebook say to watch little kids all day is too much for them, even a few days a week. I’m thinking the late day watching is better- two boys 8 and 9 (Sean was cute at that age). I sure hope they live around the corner.
All this waiting is a pain in the neck. Not to mention waiting for test results. After a week, I exhale.
Do you know what this is? One of those QR codes. I generated it from a site and it does say something for the holidays. I saw where a lady did this in a cross stitch pattern, so I think I’ll try it. That is also able to be scanned.
Next weekend is my birthday and retreat get-away that I bought in August for Brian and me. It’s not that far away, but it’s something different to do for a change. Having an autumn birthday has it’s disadvantages as it’s not a good time to go to the beach-unless you get great weather. And people give you Christmas related gifts. The place we are going is near a casino, so we may try our luck a bit next Friday night.
Come on dishwasher installers! Guess it’s a pizza night. I can’t start cooking and then they come along to put the washer in.
Aligning of the universe
I don’t know guys, this is a pretty unusual coincidence. My friend Karin, who is a chef instructor in Illinois, showed me the label of a package of mushrooms she was checking in for class. So the mushrooms were from-can you guess? Yes-Avondale-right down the road from me as a matter of fact-about 4 miles if that.
Karin’s photo:

So I asked my friend Nicki, whom I have know since 8th grade, if that happens to be the mushroom place her husband works for and she replied (this is all through Facebook) Yes, and he delivers to Illinois! Get outta here, right? I bet Nicki’s hubby even handled that exact carton. Small world!
I haven’t heard from the store down the road. And now I have to decide if I really want to be a babysitter. I have a family in mind, but I want to meet them. It would be the time of day when I am getting dinner ready, but then I could surely make something earlier in the day.
I had Cosmo to the vet and having a pet is so expensive these days! It was $150 for an exam, a few shots and a tube of heart worm stuff. They also suggested since Cos is a ‘senior’ now at age 11, he should get his blood pressure checked and blood work. And his teeth cleaned. Wow-that’s a lot of stuff and about $450 more. I forgot about the flea and tick stuff-which I think I can get online. I can get the treats that help the tartar issue. A vet I had for my other cat use to scrape the teeth right on the exam table! Just like plumbers-every little thing they do they charge you for it.
I so needed a walk in the park-it was around 60 degrees out, so lovely. I dropped the noisy cat off and headed to the township park. A younger woman got out at the same time and disappeared for a while, like a gazette she pranced off! I did a few rounds and took a few photos with my phone.

And my car with a lovely tree behind her:

We had some tasty brisket in bbq sauce and smashed potatoes for dinner. The meat is pre-packaged. I have a sore spot in the back of my neck and have ice on it. I think it’s a pinched nerve from picking up the cat in his carrier. It figures.
Sugarloaf Craft Festival
Facebook is a good place to find places to go on the weekend! A pal in New Jersey mentioned she went to the Sugarloaf Craft Festival in her state last weekend. I looked up the festival and its next stop was Oaks, PA. this weekend!
I asked Brian if we could go and he said fine (it’s about an hour away). It was easy to find and very crowded. I had coupons off the internet, so we saved $1 each. The first thing that caught my eye was this:
I didn’t purchase it right away, but Brian did buy it for me as a birthday gift. This isn’t the chain it came with as it was a bit too short for my liking. The gem is a Mystic or Rainbow Topaz-the topaz is my birthday gem and it comes in all colors, though this colorless stone is treated with something to give it an aurora borealis appearance. This photo doesn’t do it justice-guess it’s about 2 carats and wasn’t really pricey.
There were over 250 vendors and most of the items were priced on the high side. I got a good look at gorgeous scarves, but for $45-160, I will make my own or find them elsewhere. We did buy some chocolate and candy goodies to enjoy and give as gifts. I tried a slushy wine product (yum).
I happened upon this pottery place and decided to get a large mug-it’s like 12 oz or more! Only $10. Then I saw a chowder bowl, which is good for my oatmeal and cereal.
And compared to the one I bought in the 1970s that my mom returned to me a few years back:
This company is called Transformations
See how it goes from the state of Pennsylvania and Declaration of Independence and is transformed into the Liberty Bell?
Bought some nice soap from North Carolina:

This is sitting on top of a couple of sheets of homemade paper I bought.
When we were leaving to go to the Chester County booksale, I took this photo of the 1918 Oaks train station out the car window:

We got to the book sale about 45 minutes before it closed. I managed to find a few books from the Martha Stewart Halloween book to the Chincoteague Island book (from 1977). I think they all (plus a paperback Bri got and one I got for his dad were $12.

I’ll let you know if the flat belly diet works! LOL Saw the authors on Rachael Ray a year or so ago and was intrigued, but not intrigued enough to spend $25.
Nice illustrations in the clothing book:

The lighthouse we saw a few months ago:

Cute cover of the book

I went with Brian to see his dad, it’s been a long time since I saw him, but I hear him every day several times a day as Bri must use the speaker part of the phone all the time. We went food shopping for him too.
Also wanted to share some roses I bought-$1 a stem at Fresh Market. They had about 15 or more different colors. They lasted beautifully.

Cherry Brandy

Jade green and a pretty sunshiny yellow

Overview of snowmen display, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
Here’s a view from above of my front bay window about 3 yrs ago. These weren’t even all the snowmen I have either. I under light the batting. Not sure what I’m doing in this space this year, depends on how busy I am.

Brian and I may go to a craft show on Saturday as it’s a big one and will be a nice day too. There’s also a large book sale going on. After we saw my uncle (alas for the last time last year), we went to the sale, though we were all shook up from seeing him looking so bad. Miss him. I brought home a picture he had drawn of Sean years ago and need to photograph it to share with you.
Thinking handcrafting Christmas goodies
I’m going to start looking into making some gifts for Christmas this year. I am running across some fab ideas on Pinterest like a snowball wreath with a mixture of Styrofoam and glass balls. I saw a few decorations using vintage music sheets. I should get my mom involved too. Speaking of mom, I went down to see her on Thursday to take her out to lunch. She was kind of shuffling her feet and got a little winded. She also wasn’t wearing her glasses which didn’t help. Anyway, I’m going to be pulling out my Christmas books that include crafty stuff. The holidays are coming up fast!
Still seeking employment
I’m not giving up! I have a few prospects-babysitting (still need to meet the family) or a store a mile away. I could probably get a bit more money babysitting, but I kind of prefer working at the store. I think it’s just seasonal, but I’m sure if they like you, they may keep you. I’ll have to learn the register and do pricing, etc. I have worked retail at the mall when I was in college. I did mostly evenings and the weekend. I’m still wanting to keep it part time. I never heard from T*J*M, that I don’t understand. But with the job mentioned above, I added a personal note about working retail before and not to go by just what I had written down as they were jobs I did when Sean was in school. I will be on my feet a lot, I know, but it’s a smallish store (mostly clothing) and it may be the ticket for me. I feel like I’m in a rut, and I worry about getting by and Bri having too much on his shoulders. And being so close, well that is a plus too. Crossing fingers.
Sean couldn’t go to work as he’s still not up to par. He is coughing a lot and says his throat is bothering him the most. He is going to try school from 7-10 as he missed last night.
Update– I have an interview at the store (11-4) with the manager who sounds close to Sean’s age. I’m kind of nervous, but excited too!
Celebs in Crafting

When I went to the Heirloom rubber stamp and paper craft show recently,
I never expected to see a Marilyn Monroe stamp which I had to have! I thought I’d use her in many different ways. She’s not a mounted stamp which makes her a bit hard to use, but I just added some double-sided sticky tape on an acrylic block and stuck her on for the time being. I was lucky enough to have the director’s clapboard which worked well on this card. I added the purple glitter and some more stars and I was happy.
I haven’t seen any celeb stamps for a while, maybe Charlie Chaplin. If I use celebs, I find them on stickers, in magazines or in books. I have a nice Shirley Temple book (original) and I have scanned a few of the pages and they are on Flickr.

I’ve made a couple of the Curse of the Black Pearl ATCs with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly (stickers)

and sent them to a sweet young artist in Florida as she liked them so much. I love Clara Bow’s 1920s face and used her too.

I also have used Lana Turner.

A few more:
Mae West

Gene Tierney:

Hedy Lamarr:

Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman:

I saw Lana years ago when she appeared on ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ (taped in Philly). That was neat for my mom and grandmom as they saw so many of her movies in the 1940s and 1950s. I did a search and found this-probably the same show!
May 2, 1975 – George Carlin – The Mike Douglas Show
(I’ve seen George Carlin, John Davidson and I think Joan Rivers-it was the 70s!) My friend and I waited in line back then at the Philly car show to get John Travolta’s autograph too. It’s MIA here which bugs me. I have a feeling it’s stuck in a scrapbook somewhere.
Sean came down with a sinus issue where he has a slight fever. He is coughing off and on from the post nasal drip. I’ve had sinus issues off and on for two weeks. When I take Claritin, I feel better, but I don’t like taking it every day. We’ve had a hard frost, so maybe the allergies (if that’s what it is) will calm down. Salt water has been my friend as has BioAllers nasal spray.
Happy Halloween!
Here’s wishing you a fun-filled, ghoulish kind of day.
My photo is from 1995 when we use to have to go around to different towns to trick or treat. I made Sean the pizza costume. He is holding a small take out box pizza that lit up.
We sure had a lot of fun on Halloween. Our youngest niece isn’t trick or treating this year and I know her daddy will miss that as he love Halloween. We’re all waiting to trick or treat now with grandchildren which is going to be a long wait I think.
; )
