It was one of those days when you have something planned and then it falls through. I was going to go to Longwood Gardens and it was just so dreary and spitting rain-ugh. I ended up making a pot of stew and trying some new crochet stitches for maybe a future gift. Seems like I can do more stuff like this tomorrow as it will be very rainy.
We are all upset by something that happened with my father-in-law. He is fine, but he let a man in his house who said he was an antique dealer from North Carolina. Just because he had a ‘business card’ and a truck. The three of us flipped out. So many ‘bad’ things could have happened. The guy cased out the house and did purchase 6 things for $250. Cash only-no check or receipt for what he bought. We got the name of the guy’s business from Brian’s dad and tried to look him up and said viewing the site could harm our computer! Doesn’t sound good. I hope the money was real. His dad argued uphill and down dale that he knows when to trust people, etc. Said he won’t tell us when he wants to do that again. Smart-no common sense. My grandmom’s sister started to act like this-she picked up an hitchhiker and soon had to go in a home. It may be time to get the ball rolling as Dad C. can’t take chances like this!
So…my collage card was going to be all black and white and then I ran across the soap wrapper and other Asian images and there you go.

No ship like friendship
This is a very English card as many of it’s elements are from that country. The foil sticker of the little boy was sent to me from a friend in the UK. I send lots of things over there. I have a package of die-cuts from an English magazine (the boat and star).
We all were zonked from Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Sean did his 4:30 am to 12:30 pm shift. He said it was really rough at 5 until about 6:15 with 100s of people in line. He said they looked haggard too. Crazy! I say do decorating, baking and visiting. Give a few gifts, maybe something you’ve made (I have made 2 things thus far).
Tomorrow we will order a fiber glass door for the basement. I felt the first deep chill of the old door letting in the cold air. And next it will be time to get a plumber in here to unstop two bathroom sinks. It’s nasty upstairs because it takes a good 20 minutes for it to drain. I don’t think it’s too far down-must be a cap off a bottle (maybe).
Have a great weekend!
I am thankful
I wanted to make a Thanksgiving collage, but the scrap clippings are slim pickings. I did have that new pumpkin paper and the words from another paper.
I am thankful that my blood work was ok. My thyroid reading was 4.75 and it should be around 4.2. It may be that way from starting the high bp medicine 5 days earlier. The nurse said the doctor just wants to watch it. Seems like it’s another hormone issue to me. I am ‘this close’ to going to a specialist.
I’ve been upping the exercise lately. I do some floor exercises and walk around the yard. It’s not 30 minutes, but it’s a start.
I got exercise carrying the 20 pound frozen bird out of the freezer down in the basement. Brian said I should have waited for him. : )
Home messy home
It took Brian several hours to install our new microwave. When we opened the box, I realized why it was a good price-the one we picked up was another Samsung model. I was a bit peeved. There’s also a dent on one side that we didn’t make. When Bri went to put in the vent cover, the vents are on the top, not pointed to the front like illustrated in the installation booklet. I do plan to call for the above problems (plus the fan is really loud). I paid for a special warranty, so maybe they will take a look at it. I also took photos of the dent and incorrect vent. My kitchen needs a good tidying up too.
While Bri was struggling with the blasted machine, I made my collage cards. I went through my scrap box and came up with these. The mansion behind the lady with the guitar stated under photo that it was the Mississippi Governor’s mansion-not sure if it’s the current one or not, but it’s so pretty.
I started with the Chinese paper for this one and went from there.

Earlier Brian and I stopped at the church bazaar and bought a big box of mushrooms and a lovely quilted piece from a young lady-Cate, who is actually our neighbor. I told her I’d give her some publicity as she’s made many beautiful pieces and isn’t charging that much for them. I bought an octangular Thanksgiving piece for the middle of my round table for only $10. I will add the photo soon.
I am kicking around with knitting. I bought some pom-pom yarn for $2.50 at Michael’s and got one of their free direction leaflets. Well I couldn’t get it at all and decided to look at the wrapper on the yarn and it said to knit twice between the pom-poms. That worked! Earlier I picked up the needle the wrong way and off went the stitches. I had to undo about 5″ or more! What a pain.
And last but not least, Brian went earlier to pick up the nice firm sofa cushions-it’s like a new sofa! I plan to stuff the back cushions myself in the corners where they are a bit unstuffed-the Michael’s was out of stuffing! I’m glad I had this done-saving our backs. When my mom complained how flat the cushions were, I listened as she is such a thin little thing.
Fresh air helps one’s creativity

It was so nice to walk around at Longwood Gardens that I got two cards made for today. A lady had sent me the vintage zodiac design and I love the night sky and had fun!
Then I decided to do a winter themed one. I thought these little children looked like they were watching it snow through a window. I used vintage mica flakes for snow on the windowsill and around the collage.

For my ‘big’ day, Sean will take me out to lunch and Brian for dinner. No calories on your birthday, correct?
Princess Kate…next year!
Princess Kate 4″ x 4″ Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I’m happy to hear that Prince William ‘finally’ became engaged to his steady of what is it, 8 yrs. It happened last month, but they just told the public today. She is wearing Diana’s sapphire ring-hope it isn’t jinxed, but again, after all those years he should know! : )
I have that neat crown scrapbook paper and added the young lady under one. She’s really a fairy princess what-a-be. : )
I had a very restless night last night. I forgot to take a Tylenol before the fasting period began for the bloodwork. Big mistake. I had dragged about 14 grocery bags in earlier and was feeling that. I got myself to the doc’s office and was in and out in 15 minutes. Please keep me in your thoughts as it’s been a while. Bri had bloodwork last week and hasn’t heard, so he’ll probably get his results in the mail.
It was a good day for a nap-rainy and blah, so that’s what I did.
I got up refreshed to enjoy Barbra Streisand on Oprah. I love her estate in California:
And Babs and Bob are together again for their 1st interview ever! Did you not love ‘The Way We Were’ too?
Watching
I made this after talking to my uncle who gave me very short answers and acted like he didn’t want to talk. I feel so bad for him laying there in the hospital for over two weeks. He is still very weak.
Sean and I watched a kind of creepy movie called ‘The Lovely Bones’. It was suppose to take place in Norristown, PA, about 45 minutes or so from here. The author is from Malvern where Brian grew up. What’s creepy is the 14 yr old girl gets murdered by her neighbor. I was the same age as her in 1973. I had the same pencil box. We now have the same green lidded candy dish as the neighbor. Yikes. So after Susie is killed, she’s in like a pergatory and she sees big things and wild things. I guess my collage is influenced by that and this guy Randall who makes the same size cards and sells them for $25 each. There’s an idea!
Brian went to get bloodwork today, so wish him luck. He may have to get a few things checked out. His dad is getting his cataract consultation on Wednesday. I asked if he would not get the surgery on the 19th for obvious reasons (like I only have one birthday a year and he hasn’t been to the eye doctor in 15 yrs.).
I’m in the process of my pre-holiday cleaning. I can’t stand to have to clean and decorate-too much work. My back has been bad, especially if I sit on the floor or do too much leaning over. Ugh.
Hey, did you recognize Nancy Drew up there?
Man in the Moon
This was a candy wrapper! I did buy the milk chocolate bar at a store in Peddler’s Village (from Razzle Dazzle) for this vintage illustration of the “Game of the Man of the Moon”. I added the dragonfly and red hearts. The ribbon had been wrapped around the bar which only lasted until tonight as it was so chocolaty and creamy.
The next card is from a baby book my mom found at a book sale. The photographer is Lisa Jane who does a great job with babies. I have her holding a rose to go with the Buddha verse. I think it looks sweet.

Busy yesterday and today. I borrowed Sean’s car to go to my hometown to get my hair fixed and to also visit a bit with my mom and her dogs. The poochies are good-the little guy is a bit skinny from his ordeal. They were both so glad to see me and Kelsey acted like a circus dog standing on his back feet begging to be loved. I gave him lots of attention.
I got my hair done with more blond highlights and a little side bang. Then I took mom to Carrabba’s and I think she enjoyed the blackberry Sangria the most. We went into Macy’s and they have some decent sales and a few 70% off rack. I bought mom three very nicely made tops for a total of $23. I dropped by Kohl’s on the way home looking for some slacks that fit me well and they didn’t carry them at that store. Of course they had 80% off racks-really loaded down. I got a cute blue and gray Vera Wang 3/4 length sleeve top that I wore today and a few other tops and a cute cotton dress. I had gotten rid of three bags of clothes, and will probably do another closet too!
Brian and I took Cosmo to the vet today. He cries going and coming home. I noticed my van is really hot under the second seat-not good. Anyway, my little furball weighs 15 pds. I let him out of the carrier in the van and held him a bit, but he then went under the second seat and then back into the carrier. He’s been really sleepy tonight.
Tomorrow I am going with Sean to a Walmart so he can get new tires. Maybe there will be a Kohl’s I can look for the slacks in!
And my Uncle Don is still in the hospital and I can’t seem to get through to him as the phone just rings and rings. He’s in a private room now for a few days. I’m wondering what will be next for him.
Happy Halloween!
Made this about 7:30 tonight. Good one for the holiday and used 2d stickers mostly. We get no trick or treaters, never did, so we went food shopping! I eyed some cute decorations that may be half price tomorrow-may go see before I go to my hometown.
Hope today and tonight was a good time for all!
Some updates-
My uncle is out of the ICU and in a room, but in pain and on intravenous. That poor man. We have to go see him one of these days.
My mom’s dogs both came home yesterday and were zonked. If mom hadn’t found the empty pill bottle, little Kelsey would have been no more. She is happy about that, but has some issues still-getting an injection in her eye and then she goes to counseling.
300 to go!
Here are my collages for Friday and Saturday-I’m up to #65, so I have 300 to go! (Yikes!) The angel was found in a collection of angel statue postcards. The background was shiny and I roughed it up a bit. I added a few phrases for good luck.
The gentleman one was mostly from my scrapbook page that could separate in long pieces. I added the man’s head, the cityscape and trumpet.

As of this morning, my uncle was still in the ICU. Mom said he had a tube up his nose. He’s a fighter!
Brian did some yard work mostly with the leaf bagger until it started to clog up on him. He put a lot of stuff (more like jammed it) in the shed, but he (we) need to clean up a little more. It was sunny but chilly today.
