Surreal earthquake

What a day of turmoil around the world, starting with the earthquake in Chile. Terremoto Santiago has some more 1st person views of his homeland on his Flickr photostream. We were watching for a tsunami to hit Hawaii, but they were spared by just having a small one-so far.

Update-I just learned that one of my Flickr art swap pals is in Chile and has been there for the death of her mother last week. So sad! Keep Constanza in your thoughts and prayers.

Brownie heaven

Standard

Felt better enough to do a little baking. I got out my Martha Stewart cookie cookbook and found this recipe for peanut butter swirl brownies. Lots of butter and peanut butter. Cake-like and yummy.
We had about 3 or so inches of snow, a drop in the bucket right? Sean couldn’t help Brian shovel (who had half a day) because he is still getting over his cold/virus. My tummy is bothering me a little and my right sinus hurts and is pushing on the pin in my gum where I just had my crown replaced. A Tylenol seems to keep it in check.
I am hoping to get to the Philly flower show-probably next Sunday or sooner. It’s a lot of walking and I want to feel chipper to do so. My mom of course is planning on going around Tuesday with a friend.
Have a cozy weekend!

Just for fun!

I’m sick with that bad cold that seems to be going around. Had to crash after dinner for a bit, I hardly ever do that. Meds are helping.
We are again expecting a Nor’easter to blow through here-but ‘only’ -10″ this time around. Sean is anticipating not going to work as they usually want to keep you off the roads when the wind is that rough. I hope I feel better tomorrow so I can grab a few items we need.

Thursday-still snow and icicles!

I do play with my paper crafts now and then. Here is one with my maternal great grandmom Caroline and the ladies that resembled her a bit. The paper was a Christmas gift and is so pretty.

To Julia-I mailed off your package today parcel post as it’s a bit on the heavy side. I hope you get in within a week or so. We have fairly good mail service around here.

Brian really suffered from bringing the large trash bin around front tonight. Two weeks ago, before we had 40″ of snow on the ground, he had an easier opportunity to get in around front(he had several reminders-I should have done it). He had to pull it on it’s side and trudge through the snow. He had a coughing wheezy attack for a few hours off and on. He’s good now. (I think Rolaids helped too)
I made us a steak dinner tonight. That’s what we ordered at the restaurant on Valentine’s Day that was so tough. Mine was very good-and easy to cut! I made mushroom gravy, broccoli perogies and asparagus too.

Fighting a cold that Sean brought home from somewhere. I can feel it in my throat tonight. We have Zi*cam, so if I feel any worse, I will take some. I got caught in the wind when I went out to get some groceries earlier-my hair was all over the place!

My title above-I swore I saw Brian taking photos of icicles, but when I uploaded photos, I didn’t see any! I’ll have to take some photos.

Dental info

Carole-I am only ‘smiling’ to show the space where the crown is suppose to go! : )
Barbara-the water pik (I was spelling it incorrectly) was found here on Amazon. Worth every penny. Gets in between your teeth super clean. The only thing-it would make an awesome squirt toy for the kids-I’ve gotten myself wet a few times.
I didn’t realize how bad my hair looked. If I use the curling iron on it one day, the next it looks like frizz.
I am so fed up with what dentists and doctors charge. My measly deductible is eaten up in a few visits. They use to complain when you said you could only give them ‘so much’ a month. Now they are glad to get it! A few years ago they talked me into getting a credit line with a company(avoid Care*Credit!!)-now we have a large balance and the finance charge is high. The office doesn’t suggest the company anymore. We just got through with Sean’s big bill and now it’s me again. I am suppose to have a crown replaced, but need to postpone that-maybe a year now. He can x-ray it every few months to check it out.
My crown finely feels like it use to. So nice to use the water pik and not smell anything bad today. Yeah.
I had another issue, but I hope it’s ‘behind’ me now. It seems like everyday it’s something!

Interesting Tuesday

Standard

I went to the dentist Monday afternoon and had my teeth fixed, plus a part of a filling that may have been trouble down the road. Guess who pointed out the later issue? Yes-me! Didn’t the dentist see ‘the almost problem’ when he examined my teeth a few weeks ago? I asked him to check my crown as I felt it was a bit loose. He tapped on it, but he went crazy with the dental floss telling me to toughen up my gums around it. To make a long story, short…I went to floss my teeth on Tuesday, stuck the floss in there and ‘pop goes the crown’ in the sink! Just wonderful. Why didn’t he listen? So I called the office and Brian went with me to the 6 pm appt. I had to scramble around here to get dinner made-soft food-meatloaf and mashed potatoes. So I waited and waited…

(even had time to play with my phone camera)
I was numb here and waiting on the dentist to put a pin with a nail head in my gum. It was a nasty smell (on of the reasons I went was that when I used the water pic it smelled when I got to that tooth! Get a water pic!) My tooth under the crown had broken (I remember biting something hard in early December that must have done the dirty deed-I didn’t tell the dentist-but I think the pin should have been put in over a year ago).
So I have my smile back!
I’ve won 3 prizes from the One World, One Heart blog event. Look what Tammy is treating me with:

So beautiful!
I need to find my other wins and post. One is a gorgeous assortment of paper and one is a lampwork necklace.
Hoping for a better, more productive Wednesday.

Congrats to Julia!!!

I just did a random drawing using the online random generator and Julia from my blog roll (My Adventures and Antics-a great blog too)won the One World, One Heart contest! She was #70 out of 314 comments. Julia, please contact me by the end of the day. If by chance she passes on this (I hope not), I will do another drawing. Since I know Julia has 5 children under the age of 12 (I think that is correct), I may have to put something in the box for the two little boys. ; )

Off to the dentist in a few hours to get a few chipped teeth fixed-lucky me!
And-if my chance I win anything-you can leave a comment here-crossing fingers!

Photo Hunt-Broken

Just an update to let you know that I will draw a ‘One World, One Heart’ winner around 11 am on Feb. 15th. I feel the people out west can still enter-so can you!
Broken-so what is broken is the snow amounts for the Philadelphia area! In the winter of 2009-2010, we have gotten over 70″ of snow (Sean is saying close to 80″). It’s still hanging around too. We are getting a few more inches tonight. Driving around in it is surreal too. The pushed aside snow looks like white boulders. I told Bri last night that I wish I had my camera with me, but there would hardly be a place to park. And the icicles-some are at least 4 feet long! It sure looks like Alaska around here!

Homemade pretzels

Homemade pretzels, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Well, Barbara mentioned she made homemade soft pretzels,so of course I being a Philly girl, had to make some. I started them in my bread machine and when I went to turn them out to make the ropes, the dough was really sticky. I followed a recipe, but perhaps the machine over-kneaded the dough. I got it to work, and this is what I got and they weren’t bad! I had to use Italian coarse salt, so you are seeing some herbs on the pretzels.I think I’m making too many things with yeast lately (Di*Giorno pizza today) as our tummies are a little ‘pouf-pouf’ you get my drift.
We did survive the blizzard! Yeah! We had our power, but my mom and brother didn’t for overnight. It was rough. We had a nice sunny day today, so that helped. The guys had to do a terrible lot of digging. We had 2-3 feet snowdrifts around the vehicles. It’s been the snowiest winter in over 100 yrs in these parts. I really look forward to seeing grass again.
