A little weary

Standard

I think I mentioned that we could get Nor*ton antivirus for free from Com*cast. (I don’t want them to get mad). It took an hour to take the old software off the PC, not as long on Sean’s laptop. What took forever was doing a total scan of both computers-about 5+ hours each! Now what was this new software doing that our old one wasn’t? Makes you wonder! Sean had over 1 million MBs freed up on his laptop! I am happy to report that both computers are running well, yes even the 8 year old one with Windows XP! Crossing fingers.
My computer seems to be fine now thanks to it getting reformatted. I figure we saved $85+ not having to download the old program again for next year, so reformatting mine was much cheaper if you look at it that way. He let it slip about it being free and said he could download them on these computers-no thanks, I handled it!
I was not really up to doing yardwork today. I am having issues again-I’m now sorry I went through that procedure in March, but I tried it as the doctor thought it would help. I am a bit better, but so irregular in that way. I was pulling some weeds out of the sidewalk (we have bricks that Brian installed many years ago). I also pulled weeds across from my front door.
My life today was weeding out old files and pesky weeds. : )  I also cleaned out some links in my blogroll that weren’t there anymore or not updating. I plan to add more in the future. WordPress has an audio feature I may try later so you can hear my voice. : )

Close-up Black-eyed Susan

Close-up Black-eyed Susan, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

The blooms of late July. So cheerful and sunny. Not sure what happened to the other wildflowers I planted next to these last year. I have my pink dinner plate hibiscus blooming too (grew from seed). The weeds/grasses are incredibly invading everything. I’m thinking about getting the weed wacker out tomorrow.

The basement is better, but I moved things and there was water under them. I made the mistake of using some cardboard and bags as ‘quick storage’ to be replaced. They all have to be replaced-only about 4-5 that I see so far. An old braided rug is a bit wet, so I’ll get the fan on it. I am spraying Lysol around too. What a mess. I’ll keep sorting the stuff. Can I toss old sparklers and fireworks? Anyone know?

Bad Thunderstorm rolled in Sunday

Standard

Big storm went through here in the afternoon on Sunday. I was going to have Brian cut this grass which is in the center of a circle garden (most of the flowers on the perimeter got eaten) but the 3 inches of rain and 50 mph winds knocked it down. Got a lot of water in our basement. We were at a Phillies baseball game while all this happened. Many roads were washed out and we had to come another way home. We didn’t have power after we were home for almost 4 hours. We were using the broom to sweep the water in a hole in the floor in our basement. After the power came back, Bri used the wet vac and put fans around. I have to move things and toss any cardboard that got wet. We haven’t had so much water in our basement for 23 yrs!

Photo Hunt-Hanging

Huge shark, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I could have used a hanging basket here as I have tons of photos of them. I always look at my Flickr photostream and do a search. I came across ‘Mr. Shark’, who was seen in the Shipwreck Museum in Fenwick Island, DE. I just saw him a few weeks ago when we stopped in to see if there were any new exhibits (it’s free and you can take photos). Sure enough, he still was. I think many visitors miss him because you need to look up as he’s so close to the ceiling. And when you are done checking out the treasures, you can go downstairs and shop in Seashell City, one of the best souvenir places in the area.

Poor Lil’ Ruby

Standard

Well it had to be done as I could not fix Lil’ Ruby’s issues with the low space in her recovery drive before it got used up completely. I called a guy named Fred who is almost a neighbor who also has a computer repair business (huge house-3xs bigger than ours). Said I should just clean her slate as when I installed Windows 7, I should have taken off Vista first. And one excellent thing he told me-all you Com*cast high speed internet users listen up-Norton Antivirus software is free on the Com*cast homepage! I won’t have to pay $89 bucks (or around that price) to renew the one we have. This is good as it’s costing more to get Ruby cleaned up! She’s the laptop I bought with jewelry stash as a gift to myself last year.
It’s wickedly hot around here. When I will go to my first Phillies game at the new ball park this Sunday, ( it will be 20 odd years since I’ve been to a game),we will be roasting in the mid 90s. I hope I can make it. I will be going in the concourse (is that what you call it?) a bunch. I have a few personal fans, but one is on a water bottle that makes mist-it is so great but they probably won’t let me bring it in.
Hoping to get Ruby back tomorrow.

Having fun paper collaging

Crowabout #88 Fairy Challenge, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

During these definite ‘dog days of summer’, I stay where the air is cool, since we are paying heaps of $$$ for it lately. Best thing we ever did to this house. I am in a few Flickr and Swap-bot groups and I trade with people every week. This little wooden plaque was a challenge I don’t have to trade at all! Every week on Flickr, the group coordinator offers up a sheet of photos/designs. We are to use at least 3 from the sheet. On this one I used the pink blossomed tree and stream, the moth fairy, Hummingbird, fairy sign and red leaves. I added a row of butterflies and a skeleton leaf I added glitter to. I think this turned out cute.

Our garden is giving us mostly Cucumbers! The Zucchini are all flowers and the Green Beans are just giving us a few beans. The tomatoes are good but a bit on the small side. I swear something is tunneling under the garden as a Green Pepper and Tomato are wilting-they are near each other. All that dry and now all this wet! Mother Nature is playing a game with us. I shouldn’t complain as I have had some nice Roses and Daylilies, but you can’t eat them!

Blending

Standard

Sometimes the days just seems to run together. The last few weeks have been very tense with Bri dealing with his dad. I know he is worrying about him every waking moment and he’s stressed out enough about his job. Now tonight he was getting set to go over there (48 mile round trip) because his dad still can’t climb the 8 steps to the second floor. He had gone through all the Ensure that they brought up a few days ago. I would so get him a 24 pack at a warehouse! So I rushed to make a yummy broccoli pasta dish (I tossed tuna in too) and the heavens opened up. I was glad when his dad called and said to stay put. Bri would have risked flooded roads to carry up a few cans of drink to his dad! Bri needs to call an agency to get needed help for his dad. The one my uncle uses is good, but the lady only comes a few hours a week to clean, etc. I think Mr. C. needs someone there every other day. He is also getting a hospital bed for the den where he only has to climb 3-4 stairs. During these ‘twilight years’, the older generation needs to think what they are doing to their family. I worry about Bri burning the candle at both ends. My ‘step’ cousin took care of her sick husband for many years and he passed away. Didn’t she get diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer last summer and was gone by this January. Her husband was much older, yet she only outlived him 2 years. Like Dana*Reeve, wife of Christopher*Reeve got lung cancer within a few years of his passing and died herself. You wonder if they ignored symptoms as they were so worried about their husbands. At least Bri has been tested for many things. He still has smelling and tasting issues-it could be from stress. I am so happy when he does taste something!
I’m trying to downsize around here. Books, books everywhere! I don’t know what to do with them all. I am most definitely having a yard sale within the next few months, that’s if everything is okay with the family. I am also in some Art Trading Card swaps weekly which helps my nerves and lets me use the right side of my brain. Tomorrow, I am getting my hair done-it really needs it-just call me Cruella!
I’ll keep you posted on things.
