After much clothes sorting (and not done, just took a few things out of the closet), I decided to walk for fresh air around the yard. I don’t know why I don’t do this often. I’m sure I racked up at least 1/4 mile (maybe) from 3 laps. It was a bit cool, so I put on a polar fleece jacket I found in the armoire, but the faux Crocs weren’t great for walking over cut up burrs, etc.
So for this collage I found the sweet girl looking out the window in an old kids’ book from about 1951. I did color her in a bit. I wanted it to look like she is checking out the leaves and that cute feathered pal there in her own wonderland. : )
I got called to go to the dentist tomorrow, so that frees me up for going to Longwood Gardens with my mom and her pal next week. Mom is getting her hearing aides adjusted over in the next town as she is too use to the setting it’s on now. My brother has been nice to her during her nasty head cold this week bringing her soup, etc. I wish his good side would shine through all the time.
Wisdom is Knowing
Well, I almost got stuck here, but thank goodness I have lots of scraps, papers, old photos and stickers laying around! : )
I wanted to do a tissue paper background and there are three different kinds here, including the bookshelves. Then I was going for a man in his library and used the relative of a pal’s (the man in the derby). I thought it would be interesting to make believe that this is his daughter who he wants to gain knowledge through books and writing-‘vision’ also. What’s funny is the bust in the middle looks a little like me!
Not much new except switching out the clothes. I did put together a big bag for the Goodwill. I will finish the slack and sweaters tomorrow and tackle maybe one closet.
Apple picking time
Since I had just eaten a ‘caramel’ apple (it was red, not brown caramel) and had the wrapper, I did this apple collage. The 1976 book I found with the apple had beautiful illustrations as you can see. This came together fairly quickly.
When we were kids we went to a place a few miles away called ‘Linvilla Orchards’ which was known for it’s octagonal barn. The wonderful smells of that red candy coating boiling for the freshly picked apples made your mouth water. The old barn burnt down a few years ago and was rebuilt. I’d love to go there again soon!
We had a rain out of a day and it was raw outside. I think it’s in the 40s right now.
Just got finished watching ‘Pawn Stars’ and ‘American Pickers’ on ‘The History Channel’. I love to see what people bring in the pawn shop in Vegas and want Mike and Frank find on their picks in old garages, etc. They were on ‘The Rachael Ray Show’ today and found her a ‘spaghetti lamp’(Something like the link). It was like a swirly white plastic upside down fish bowl with green and blue squiggles on it. She loved it.
Off to bed really soon as I had a restless night last night.
I recommend Chicken Piccata with Angel Hair Pasta from the packaged mix I found from Macaroni Grill at the store. It’s just the way I love chicken.
Live Out Loud
It’s about time I did a card for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month.
I actually started with the quote, then the paper and then thought it was perfect to make a powerful statement. I’ll be scheduling my mammogram later this month. Sometimes I get aches and pains in muscles or nerves in my chest area and it scares me. All the sweeping and mopping I did a few days ago made my right pec so sore I’ve been using heat and ice.
Brian was cleaning up Chestnut tree burrs on Sunday-nasty things and adding 4 bags of top soil around different areas of the house’s foundation. He also added gravel under a rain gutter that tends to overflow. He figures he could use another 4-6 bags! Just that little effort saved us from having a wet basement for many years. Of course when it rains either 3 inches in an hour or almost 8 in one day, you have to expect weird things to happen.
I had to get tons of food today, so treated myself to these Gerbera daisies. They are so hot pink!

Changing out summer clothes to winter now and then will gather the lawn decorations this week. I so would love a walk in closet instead of having to switch the clothes out. It does make me get rid of clothes that I don’t wear, so that’s a good thing too.
The 50’s
I am a ‘sort of’ child of the 50s, though I was born when it was going to end 7 weeks later.
I started this collage with the retro style paper and then the search began for images to go with it. I am trying not to get online to search for things, but use what I have and what I have printed out already. The Tower Theater is probably known to Tina Fey and Todd Rundgren alike as it’s located near where they grew up in Upper Darby, PA. I lived near here for a few years and have been once in 2006 to see James Taylor. I picked it for the retro cars. Then I found the kids from a 1951 book and someone sent me the mom in the apron. I remember watching Red Skelton in the 60s, though he started with a number of shows in the 50s. The blue car is a Peugeot from 1957!
I found this 1959 holiday cookbook from a small church flea market we went to on Saturday. I may have it already. ; )

We drove down to Lowes to get some topsoil and gravel for around the house and I snapped a photo of our town’s fairly new firehouse. They ask for lots of $$ every year.

Photo Hunt-Letters
When I was in 5th grade, about 1970, my teacher’s fiance was a cartoonist (on the side I think). Every week for about 20 odd weeks, he would make each of us a drawing with a little help from Miss Brown about the person he was doing the cartoon for. I remember waiting ‘forever’ for this one. I was very pleased with what it said too. And it was written in all block ‘letters’. Pretty cute! And I will say Miss B. was one of the sweetest teachers I ever had.
I survived the ‘monsoon’ of Sept. 30, 2010
What a night we had last night. It rained so much, we think the well over filled and it was like someone turned on a faucet next to the water pump. We must have baled 50 gallons of water from that area around 1:30 am-1:45 this morning! The flow would lessen when someone flushed the toilet. It did stop and we all fell into our beds. Because we kept up with the sweeping, etc. we probably saved having much more water to clean up today. Bri had to go get a wet vac this morning as our old one sprang a leak. What a blessing they are. And I am glad most of my things are stored in plastic bins, but I have to move items to make sure all is well. We are all very tired tonight.
I did go take a few photos around the yard. Look at this pretty rose that survived all the rainfall!
I swear the trees even look perkier from that massive drink!
Here is what needs to be cleaned up in the side yard, those prickly Chestnut tree burrs! Yikes. And then the leaves will be next. Bri said he can’t believe it’s the 24th year of cleaning them up.

And my card for today was made mostly from things that were sent my way. I made the hook from a paper clip.

Hope to hit a church flea market tomorrow as it’s only open until 2.
Puddle Jumping Adventure
When it rains it certainly pours! We are getting way too much rain now. The basement had water in it and it had stopped coming in for a few hours, but it’s back again. We need to get some topsoil and gravel for areas where the water tends to come in around the house. The Brandywine River is going to crest and go 3 feet over it’s banks.
The guys made out fine going and coming from work. It was really humid too.
I decided this card had to be about the rain. I had found the rain gear set at Big*Lots a while ago. I surely remember being dressed like that way back in the day.
I had some issues with a spasm in my tummy that I have had off and on for 13 years. It tends to be near my gallbladder scar. The last two nights (not tonight), I tried Omega 3 in gummy bear form. Well that may be one of my tummy issues. The guys aren’t having any problem with them. They smell like sugar coated anchovies-ugh. I’d really like to take them, but I think I’d rather eat salmon! : )
Hoping we don’t wake up to a really wet basement.
Flower head and fun finds
I told Bri I was going to find my collage piece out of my box of scraps. I had scanned the perfume ad from an advertising book of my mom’s. Someone made me the paper on her right. I just filled in the rest with similar colors and interesting shapes.
Today I ran some errands and also gave the van a little workout to see how the transmission is holding up. My mechanic brother told me it had a leak way underneath. I drove about 30 miles today and it was ok, though runs a bit rough. I went to the TD Bank and cashed in coins. I guessed within a $1.99 and won a small prize of chapstick. I know that our little can in the kitchen holds between $50-55 and I took out $5 for the kitty. Then I dropped off stuff at the Goodwill. I just can’t seem to get up energy for a yard sale this year. Maybe in the spring. I drove to the thrift store about 10 miles away and found some goodies!
Here are two:

The mushrooms flanking the fabric pumpkin (which I found in a bag in the basement!).
This pretty light aqua candy dish (guess I have a collection now!)

These itty bitty Salt and Pepper shakers:

And these awesome shot glasses and I think highball glasses for 33 cents each.

I need to tidy up my table again and add these! I plan to use the shot glasses for soup or dessert which seems to be all the vogue now.
Tomorrow it is going to rain like crazy-I canceled my dental appointment. I want to start to switch my summer clothes out as I am running out of clothes to wear and I won’t be doing tank tops anymore.
Hoping to stay safe and dry and wish my guys could too.
And how cute is this collage of my Sean at 7 months?

I remember he had just started to sit up and was so proud of himself. He had the biggest toothless smile. : )
My favorite furry boy
Just got my hair done on Tuesday and I asked Sean to take a few shots of me and Cosmo was hanging around, so he’s in it too.
