Man in the Moon

Standard

This was a candy wrapper! I did buy the milk chocolate bar at a store in Peddler’s Village (from Razzle Dazzle) for this vintage illustration of the “Game of the Man of the Moon”. I added the dragonfly and red hearts. The ribbon had been wrapped around the bar which only lasted until tonight as it was so chocolaty and creamy.
The next card is from a baby book my mom found at a book sale. The photographer is Lisa Jane who does a great job with babies. I have her holding a rose to go with the Buddha verse. I think it looks sweet.

Busy yesterday and today. I borrowed Sean’s car to go to my hometown to get my hair fixed and to also visit a bit with my mom and her dogs. The poochies are good-the little guy is a bit skinny from his ordeal. They were both so glad to see me and Kelsey acted like a circus dog standing on his back feet begging to be loved. I gave him lots of attention.
I got my hair done with more blond highlights and a little side bang. Then I took mom to Carrabba’s and I think she enjoyed the blackberry Sangria the most. We went into Macy’s and they have some decent sales and a few 70% off rack. I bought mom three very nicely made tops for a total of $23. I dropped by Kohl’s on the way home looking for some slacks that fit me well and they didn’t carry them at that store. Of course they had 80% off racks-really loaded down. I got a cute blue and gray Vera Wang 3/4 length sleeve top that I wore today and a few other tops and a cute cotton dress. I had gotten rid of three bags of clothes, and will probably do another closet too!
Brian and I took Cosmo to the vet today. He cries going and coming home. I noticed my van is really hot under the second seat-not good. Anyway, my little furball weighs 15 pds. I let him out of the carrier in the van and held him a bit, but he then went under the second seat and then back into the carrier. He’s been really sleepy tonight.
Tomorrow I am going with Sean to a Walmart so he can get new tires. Maybe there will be a Kohl’s I can look for the slacks in!
And my Uncle Don is still in the hospital and I can’t seem to get through to him as the phone just rings and rings. He’s in a private room now for a few days. I’m wondering what will be next for him.

Weird day

Standard

My uncle made it through his surgery with a spinal and is intensive care for 24 hours which will be critical. No one can visit him there. He had a tumor in his intestines and the area around that removed and then re-sectioned. That’s a lot for an 87 yr old.

So unfortunately I had to go for my annual gyn appt. today. I felt ok, a bit nervous as I took my van that has a transmission issue. The hospital is about 15 miles away. I decided to walk up two flights of steps and it was warm. So the tech goes to take my blood pressure and it deflates twice. Then she tries the other arm and it’s like 200/?. She gets a bigger cuff and it’s 173/110. The doctor comes in and it’s like the last reading but on the other arm again. So they took it 5 times in 10 minutes. I felt ok after I walked up the stairs, not really winded. I was a little warm, but it was in the 70s today. The doctor wants me to see my general doctor in a week or so, I’m thinking he thought the reading were incorrect. Not that I don’t have anything else on my mind. He said stress can be so bad. We have a BP cuff but my father-in-law has it. I’ve never been over 140 on the top if I remember correctly.
I get home and call my mom and one or both dogs have gotten in beef flavored pills for the older dog. She has the little terrier at the vet and they pumped his tummy and now the older dog has to go through the same thing. They aren’t seeing any pills in their tummies which isn’t good as they have maybe digested them already. My mom gets one thing almost fixed and something like this happens.
My main thoughts are with my uncle and I hope he can pull through this. And I hope the dogs will be okay-my mom and brother love them so.
Me, I’ll get checked out! I did really well tackling that hugh bush and I just had a pull or two. Tomorrow I get a mammogram!

Fall clean-up

Milkweed seeds, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Today I decided to dig up the Ornamental grass that had taken over my Lily garden. I ‘dislike’ forgetting to do things. I don’t know what happened last fall, but the one plant I had kept didn’t get it’s seed heads snipped and there were at least a dozen or more grasses everywhere in this bed. I still did keep one plant, but off came the seed heads!

Since I was all ‘worked up’, I went around back and tackled the Butterfly bush. Another shrub which was either not cut back enough or ignored. This was a job and a half! It took me a good 45 minutes to trim. I left an almost full garden cart for Brian who needs to empty it as I can’t lift it (with the grasses). I just left the big pile of branches from the Butterfly bush.

I also planted two pinkish-purple mums and 6 yellow pansies and dug up a Flowering maple plant. I am still packing up stuff to store-now I know why it takes me weeks to get it right as I have so much put out. I am sore, but glad I got done more in the yard.
Isn’t that a neat photo of the Milkweed above? I should cut most of those seed heads off too. Nature sure knows how to regenerate well!

5th grade gift , originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

When I was in 5th grade, about 1970, my teacher’s fiance was a cartoonist (on the side I think). Every week for about 20 odd weeks, he would make each of us a drawing with a little help from Miss Brown about the person he was doing the cartoon for. I remember waiting ‘forever’ for this one. I was very pleased with what it said too. And it was written in all block ‘letters’. Pretty cute! And I will say Miss B. was one of the sweetest teachers I ever had.

Good Walking Day

Good Witch 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

The scent of fall (plus spent mushroom dirt-ugh) was in the air today as Sean and I went to the park-for the second time this week for me! Don’t faint! I’ve walked over a mile in two days. We have a lovely park (and I was going to bring my camera and forgot) a few miles away. Sean use to run on the h.s. track, but now that school is in session, he’s gone back to the park. He’s doing 3/4 mile, but stops a few times. I really try not to stop on my 1/2 mile. I did feel better today-not as achy.
I decided to do Glinda today. Who doesn’t love Glinda with her big pink bubble and equal bubblegum pink gown? I also loved her crown! I knew the movie was old when I was a kid (at least 25 yrs or so when I first saw it) and I couldn’t believe she would have a crown that looked plastic like my toys-lol. Did you not love her voice, rather high and Munchkin-like?
I thought my handmade paper made a great bubble!
Here is a comparsion of the two cards-I didn’t use the first as a reference, but used the same swirls and the homemade paper in different colors.

Bad Witch 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

My mom decided to try and switch her hearing aide appt to another town closer to my uncle’s house. The man who adjusts them was too busy to call her back. I do believe there is road construction right outside of Kennett, so maybe that was for the best.
Instead, I mailed off the Harvest Angel I made to jolly old England and a neat architecture design book from the last century to my oldest nephew, the interior designer. Mom had given it to me, but it had David’s name written all over it.
I went grocery shopping, so nice and quiet with the kids back in school.
I hope you like my ‘Bad Witch’ collage from one of my favorite movies, ‘The Wizard of Oz’. the witch and wording are from a scratch pad I bought from Current Stationery a few years back. Maybe I’ll use the other end and do the ‘good witch’ tomorrow. It’s based on the tornado scene at the beginning of the movie.

Please let me know if you want to try a few of the seeds I harvested from the previous post.

Happy 6th Blog Anniversary to me!

Standard

Well it was actually a few days ago! August 23, 2004, I wrote my first blog entry. I did it mainly for myself, but I also wanted to make some friends along the way, which I have. I don’t have people leaving tons of comments, but the ones that I do get are special, and most are from people I’ve known many years now. I would love to hear if you grown the same flowers as me or maybe have been to Pennsylvania or have helpful hints, those kinds of things. Many times I feel like I am talking to myself. I was so sure people would love my McCartney post since it was a bit personal for me (seeing the lady who was my maid of honor in our wedding), but thank goodness for Zoey for leaving the one comment. Face*Book is definitely taking readers away from blogs.
So, to liven things up, I am going to start a challenge for myself here. Besides my ‘rambling’ stuff and photos, I thought I’d do one art collage a day on a 4″x4″ square like an artist did in the recent version of Somerset Studios magazine. I will share what I make. At the end of the year, I will pick 12 collages and make them into a piece of art and that will be the prize for next year. I may go to Longwood Gardens tomorrow, so the first share may be over the weekend. If you have any theme challenges- I would love for you to help me out!
Wish me luck!

Variegated Nasturtiums

Standard

I took this photo a few weeks ago and this particular pot is just taking off well with it’s display of jewel tone flowers. I’ll have to go take a few new shots of the different ones. I think the variegated leaves are so interesting, like milk was spilled on them. And how easy is it to plant nasturtiums-you poke your finger in the dirty, drop in the seed and cover!
Our veggie garden is finishing up and mostly presented us with cucumbers. We only got 6 zucchini and a few cups of green beans. I see one spaghetti squash. And we have had at least 3 dozen tomatoes, but tossed a lot down the hill too. I asked Farmer Brian if he put down any fertilizer and he said ‘no’. We used Miracle*Gro a few times, but there is nothing like good old manure to sweeten the earth.

On Saturday we went to a surprise party for my sister-in-law Colleen who hit 40. She’s the youngest of the in-laws and looks great for her age. She was very surprised. I gave her the cutest piggy watering can from good ol’ JoAnn’s with a gift card from Home*Goods. I think she got lots of them, but isn’t it fun to pick out what you really want or like?
~~~~~~~~~
Heading back down to my hometown in the late afternoon. Sean is off and is nice enough to drive me as my van is still iffy with the transmission. It’s a 48 mile round road trip and that’s when we had a leakage issue before. I said we could stop at Tar-gay and the California*Tortilla for dinner.
Finished the main design on my birthday gift-1 down 8 to go, but the small motifs can probably get finished in a night or two. I’m doing good!
