I went to the surgeon this morning for a follow-up visit. Seems my appendix had a benign polyp attached to it and she is all gung ho about me getting a colonoscopy. I signed up for one on March 4th. I feel I still need time to get over this pneumonia and feel stronger. I’m also getting an endoscopy as sometimes I had swallowing issues, which may be from stress, but better to get that checked out. The same surgeon will do the procedures, so I’ll be in good hands. She was kind enough to give me a prescription for a yeast infection as she didn’t even prescribe the medicine that bothered me. It was one pill-$15! Better be like magic.
When I got up super early, I sent email to the above blog lady and she must be super busy as my link isn’t on the event yet and she’s in the 200s. Please leave a comment if you like the goods. : )
Here’s a card I made a few weeks ago called ‘Belles in Mushroomland’. It’s made from mostly scraps, more so then some of my cards. I have to get working on those 4″ x 4″ collages again. I guess my personal challenge will extend to September now.

Hanging in there

It’s been such a strange last week, it caught me in a tailspin! I’m a person who ‘dislikes’ medicines as most of them do not agree with me and I end of having to take something for a yeast infection. Right now my mouth is a bit red and I was told it may be the beginning of a yeast infection or thrush, neither I would like to get. I am eating lots of yogurt. I still have 4 strong pills left.
Sleep has not been kind either. The first night I thought I was pulling out my IV all the time-yep a bit foggy in the brain and I am still that way. The night before last I woke up coughing every 15 minutes. Now Brian is taking the brunt of my grouchiness. I started to feel awfully sorry for myself too. I thought for sure I would have had a nicely made bed and yummy foods and no one thought to fix the bed or go food shopping. Most women are such nurturers and I’m mad that I am on the receiving end and not getting what I think I deserve after what I’ve been through. I don’t want to sound mean, I just want some kindess and consideration. The guys did go and buy the Mercury Mariner on Saturday, but I was alone for over 4 hours on the first full day I was home. I told them to get something easy for dinner-a hoagie which was too heavy for me. Last night Brian went to the food store and bought a rotissiere chicken which he heated up and dried out. I could hardly eat it.
Last night I slept better. I slept for an hour and woke up and forgot where I was. I coughed less. When I do cough it’s very forceful!
I haven’t done any art yet or taken photos. I’ll get there!
Tonight will be Applebee’s carside to go. : )

The temperature right now…

Just saying-wowowow! But why am I so warm-the medicine, the flu shot? And I am having trouble sleeping too. The painkiller will help but make me all sweaty. Wish me luck!

We got a 2005 Mercury Mariner tonight, for Brian and I to share until he can get a newer vehicle too. It’s white with black interior with beige down the middle of the seats. Also a sunroof! I got a ride and will have to get use to it as it’s so much smaller than my van was. Will show a photo soon.

Where have I been lately?

Standard

I guess a few inquiring minds want to know maybe? To sum it all up in a tidy little nutshell:
Tuesday morning around 3:30 am I woke up with a sharp pain in my tummy, like a burning ulcer feeling. I went back to sleep and woke up a few hours later, ate something and my stomach still felt heavy and like it I had an ulcer. Just felt unwell all over. I decided to see the doctor. When I got up to go around 9, the pain went down to the right area. It took a while to see the doctor, but he suggested I go to the ER because of where the pain was and that it traveled down to the right. I had an ultrasound and Cat scan and the later showed my appendix was inflamed and that I had pneumonia in the bottom of my left lung. Big surprises to me! A lovely surgeon came in and said that my appendix was coming out with laproscopic surgery that night. So that was a successful operation (she didn’t know if she’d have to go the ‘old-fashioned’ route). The pnuemonia held me up getting out yesterday (Thursday), so I was there 3 nights. I was loaded up with tons of medication including about 5 shots of blood thinner in the tummy. Got a flu shot. Had 5 sticks for IV, two went bad-not fun stuff. I have to keep quiet for a week and do a medicine for my pneumonia. I’m not sleeping right now, but am worn out. I hope to be my old self soon. : )

One of those stressful days

Standard

I swear things do happen in threes as the old saying goes. First the expensive plumber. I can’t believe how much it cost to do what he did and it took him 3 hours to do so. The last 20 minutes he was giving me estimates for other things I mentioned. I’m going to see if my brother will help Brian replace the toidy-$438 seems a bit steep.
Then my dear Cosmo didn’t kiss me on my chin as he usually does before I dish out his dinner-he nipped me hard-no blood, but still-what a shock. I yelled at him and now he is trying to make up to me.
I was going to have chicken salad for dinner, but since we’ve had so many sandwiches (just turned out that way for some reason), I went for the bacon and eggs and tater tots. Well one of my pieces of bacon was hard on the end and I bit hard and it hurt in my mouth, then I felt a piece of tooth. The entire front of my top right molar is gone. I called the dentist and the one will meet me tomorrow in the office for a quick patch. We were suppose to go car shopping, so hope we still can. If I have to go for the ‘big’ fix, I will have to go before Sean goes to work or when he has off. It will be nice to be mobile again. Wish me luck that it doesn’t hurt during the night.
As for the giveaway-I’ll pick someone sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.
Someone I know who is into photography and gets to travel a lot says she doesn’t like to take photos of ‘nature’ and ‘landscapes’ but of everything else. Well apparently she would dislike my photos. What do you think?

I wanted to do a 1-11-11 post

Standard

We are waiting on some snow later this afternoon. The weathermen just can’t seem to get it right with amounts, etc., but it’s cold enough and dreary.
We are a bit down in the mouth around here. Sean didn’t get the job he went on an interview for last Tuesday. There were 39 other people for a rather specialized job and it was entry level to boot. He has a new connection for another place, but the lady said they aren’t hiring. This is hard to hear for Sean after 1.5 years of looking.
We’ve had issues with our bathroom sinks-we have one on the first floor and one in the basement. After the terrible rains we had back in the early fall, the sinks drain like they are draining super thick molasses. Drain*o does nothing. I think there is a clog in the ‘elbow’ area upstairs that Brian doesn’t seem to want to tackle. After a few cups of water it backs up. He decided to use the plunger and made it worse. Everything gross sitting on top of the clog came up in the sink-ugha ugha!
One good thing, we got the funds to start looking for a replacement vehicle. I think we’ll have to finance some of it, but I want Bri to use the newer vehicle at least 3 days a week since his car has over 124k miles on it. He had trouble with his car stalling yesterday and he needed antifreeze. I hope that’s all. It’s not good not having a ‘second’ car (though Sean has a car, but he needs his for work too).
Trying to think positively and hoping for the best. Only time will tell.
Guess I’ll get the rest of my Christmas stuff put away.

Collages galore!

Standard

I finished up three more collages, but didn’t do the one for the 9th as I wanted to do a bit of cross stitching on an older project which I did while watching the special on TLC about the royal weddings.
I wanted this to be a travel collage and I ran across this sticker with a quote by former Monty Python player Michael Palin. He was my favorite in that group and my mom said he looks like her dad. I had pulled the map out to use and saw that it had Sudbury on it where my blogger pal Carole lives! I found a photo of Michael pointing to a globe-not the best, but fit the card. Not sure why my printer has line issues through some dark photos.
Then I was looking through a bag of die-cuts I got at that cool scrapbooking store in Bucks County and ran across the copy of this advertising-have no idea what it’s for. Made him a bell hop:
At Your Service 4" x 4" Collage Card
I printed out a group of Winslow paintings I had gotten as freebies from Dover Pubs. I just embellished it a little:
Tending flowers 4" x 4" Collage Card
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Going to get my hair done later, go to Trader Joe’s and then hope to get my mom out for a nice dinner. She is still having some issues that she may have to get help with resolving. Something is not right.
It’s suppose to snow tomorrow. Good day to get the rest of the decorations packed-I did so well on Saturday, I just need another hour to get the rest done and organized.
Longwood Christmas Display 2010
Standard
~Click here to enlarge~
It was very chilly (below freezing) day today, but Sean and I headed over to Longwood Gardens as we were gifted with tickets and the display is closing on Sunday. There were some very imaginative decorations. I really liked the tree with the moss, dried roses, silver painted ferns and pine cones that were cut in half (photos #3-thinking Ms. Zoey would like that too!)The tent was interesting-the 5th photo. It displayed a collection of perfume bottles inside and there were at least a dozen bonquets of white florals around it plus lit evergreens.
I also wanted to see the gardens with an icing of snow, I don’t remember seeing more than just a dusting of snow there before. Very pretty. We also go for the lights which were just as amazing, but difficult to photograph at night. We went up in one of the newer treehouses called ‘the birdhouse’ and that was 3 flights of stairs-oy! Nice view of the Dupont house.
Another new area was the hall of bathrooms-I kid you not-with about 20 large individual bathrooms. The walls of the hall are lined with living plants (first photo).
We ate a sandwich and mushroom soup in the cafe. I had an eggplant one which was cold-would have been tastier kept warm. The mushroom soup tasted good and warmed us up. It took me a good 45 minutes to warm up when we got home.
More snow expected tomorrow.
An ‘ode’ to Winnie the van
Standard
I was really excited to get this van back in February,1999. We had gone to a local dealership and were looking around the lot, and there she was. I think they had just had her traded in. We went across the street to the medical center and I got in behind the wheel. Right away I liked her because I sat up high which will now be a buying factor in future vehicles. We bought her and I’ll always remember Brian saying ‘Can you do better than that?’ about a dozen times. It took 2 years to pay the balance. It was really too large a vehicle for a family of 3, but could we pack her up on trips to the beach and fill her up on shopping excursions (not that many excursions). She was good for furniture hauling too. Poor Sean needs a new fold up bed and hasn’t been able to get one since we were told not to drive her that far. Speaking of Sean, he was 12 when we got her and learned to drive with her and drove her a lot. And I loved the tinted windows in the back too.
She had a few issues over the years. Within 3 months she needed a new transmission. She had a funny creaking noise when you turned the wheel to the left-for years! Finally got that fixed. The a/c needed charging all the time. I hope whoever buys her will fix her up and enjoy her! She only had about 97k on her for a 15 year old van. Thanks for the ride old girl!
She was towed away about 11:30 pm last night.
Starting to look for a car
Standard
Tomorrow the Purple Heart will tow my van away. I cleaned it out today and didn’t mice get in it and leave a gift! It’s right in the driveway too. Brian took off the license plate. I got on auto*trader’s.com and a place up in Lancaster has a few vehicles that I am interested in. One requirement-I have to sit up a bit higher than a sedan, because I’m only 5′ 2 1/2″ tall. I am looking at Ford* Escapes or Explorers and Kia* Sportages. This place has a Sportage for dirt cheap, but it has over 100k miles on it. We buy used, never had a new car. My brother the mechanic says you shouldn’t look at the mileage as much as the upkeep, etc of the car. I just do not like rust or holes. We’ll see. I feel a bit blue as the van is the vehicle Sean learned to drive in. I remember letting him drive around a parking lot ‘for the first time’ about 6 or 7 yrs ago. He was more than ready to drive, but still has issues with parallel parking.
We need to gather some funds together first anyway. I saved up a wee bit so far.
Some of my Christmas decor is in a big pile in the living room-mostly pillows and stuffed animals. They all go in those big Hefty bags. The tree will gradually get unloaded. I took the wreath off the door (need to replace it). Once I start taking stuff down, I want to get it over with.
