When I got on Facebook this morning my news link said that the 9-year old girl what was killed when Congresswoman Gabby Griffins was shot was the granddaughter of former Phillies baseball manager Dallas Green. Her name was Christina Green and she was also born on Sept. 11, 2001 to make this a sadder event. Dallas lived a few towns over in West Grove but my friend John thinks he moved to Rising Sun, Md. about 1/2 hour away. Dallas is definitely a local hero and his baseball shirt even hung in the local Applebee’s at one time.
Saying prayers for the family.

It was very chilly (below freezing) day today, but Sean and I headed over to Longwood Gardens as we were gifted with tickets and the display is closing on Sunday. There were some very imaginative decorations. I really liked the tree with the moss, dried roses, silver painted ferns and pine cones that were cut in half (photos #3-thinking Ms. Zoey would like that too!)The tent was interesting-the 5th photo. It displayed a collection of perfume bottles inside and there were at least a dozen bonquets of white florals around it plus lit evergreens.
I also wanted to see the gardens with an icing of snow, I don’t remember seeing more than just a dusting of snow there before. Very pretty. We also go for the lights which were just as amazing, but difficult to photograph at night. We went up in one of the newer treehouses called ‘the birdhouse’ and that was 3 flights of stairs-oy! Nice view of the Dupont house.
Another new area was the hall of bathrooms-I kid you not-with about 20 large individual bathrooms. The walls of the hall are lined with living plants (first photo).
We ate a sandwich and mushroom soup in the cafe. I had an eggplant one which was cold-would have been tastier kept warm. The mushroom soup tasted good and warmed us up. It took me a good 45 minutes to warm up when we got home.
More snow expected tomorrow.
Thee and Thou went to the PARen Faire!
Around 4 or so on Saturday we kind of wound up in Manheim at the Penna. Renaissance Faire. Years ago, not sure if it was right after we were married, but I think so, Brian and I went and it was nothing like it is now. It’s almost like a Disney theme park! And let’s not get into the costumed people. I think many were visitors. Brian reminisced about the 1960s for some reason. : )
We saw a sword swallower, a juggler (with fire too) and his partner who did a routine on silks (not sure of the proper term). We were tempted to get food, but Sean had visions of The Olive Garden, so we only got lemonade and iced tea.
Here are some photos:

Pretty garden area near the mansion and entrance

Tribal Circus featuring Shelli. She has a toddler-look at the tummy!

“The Abbey” sold books and paper things. You know I bought a few things.

A Sword Swallower!

When in Pennsylvania-you have to have a place that sells cheesesteaks!

Brian and Sean in front of the Pirate ship

You could get an elephant ride-we all would break his back. ; (

We didn’t get to see the human chess game

I was taunted by the dungeon guard! No thanks buddy, not into seeing how people were tortured-plus not for $2 either!
And finally-

A cute set I wouldn’t have minded having, but I got to pose with it
We got stuck in weekend traffic in Lancaster and saw at least 50 people waiting to eat outside of the Olive Garden. We turned toward Strasberg and ended up at Hershey’s Farm and had a buffet dinner around 8:15. Not as planned, but good food.
Whirlwind Saturday
I promised a post about our almost 12 hour daytrip through almost central Pennsylvania. It’s a little late, so I may start it and finish it off in a few hours.
The first part of the trip was to York, PA. which is about 1.5 hours away (known as the ‘factory tour capital of the world’-Harley Davidson has one during the week). I wanted to attend a rubber stamping/paper crafts show. Here are a few photos from a great vendor and artist-Stampland. The man sitting over on the right took a shine to me and said he’d vote for my ATCs in the contest. Alas, I don’t think I won as I didn’t get any email. One of the other vendors said it’s better to come on Sunday as you have a better chance of winning, but they were all put in a binder, so I hope mine would have stood out. The theme was ‘O Christmas Tree’. I don’t even know if I’m getting them back

Here’s some of the wonderful stamps and techniques from Stampland:

I had been dropped off for a few hours. I gave Sean the address as Brian and him don’t know their way around York. I did quite a bit of shopping too:

I was of course looking for unusual stamps. They are quite pricey. I like detailed ones the best and can’t wait to use this one:

I traded three original ATCs and got some ‘cookie cutter’ ones’-they made all of the same ones to trade.

We got to see lots of pretty farms like this:
(taken out of the car window)

I have wanted to see Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy since I read about it on the web. It has catacombs. We arrived too early to eat and Sean didn’t want to go back after our next stop. We went down these steep steps, very hard on the feet and knees:

This is about 30 feet underground!
I thought of Zoey and how she would like to eat in the catacombs with just candlelight. A friend had been here and told me on Facebook that the food is delivered by pulleys as the kitchen is far away. Maybe someday we’ll venture back
there as the menu looked good!

So I was disappointed we didn’t stay at Bube’s longer (which is pronounced-well someone told me boo-bees). I had helped myself to a flyer about the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and we saw it was 12 miles going closer to home, so we went. I think I will post about that in a few hours.
Between the Moon and NYC
Had a very busy afternoon and early evening as I decided it was too perfect of a day to clean, so I went to Longwood Gardens to walk and take photos. Great exercise, but I am zonked. I am hoping to go to a rubber stamp show in York, about 1.5 hours or so from here, about 28 miles above Lancaster. I’ve never been to a show like that-and they have paper goodness galore. I’m not sure who all is going, but if both guys go, they can go check out ‘the first Capital of the USA’. This evening I finished up a few ATCs and hope to enter them in a contest at the show. I also pulled a few to trade.
So back to my collage-my tribute to NYC! I thought it would be funny to have an airborne taxi. Bri thought the taxi needed wings! The white stars glow in the dark too. The NYC in front is a sticker as is the taxi. The lighter color buildings are little cut-outs. And the moon is a rubber stamp.
Off to bed real soon-but I know you want to see an almost 800 pound pumpkin first!

Apple picking time
Since I had just eaten a ‘caramel’ apple (it was red, not brown caramel) and had the wrapper, I did this apple collage. The 1976 book I found with the apple had beautiful illustrations as you can see. This came together fairly quickly.
When we were kids we went to a place a few miles away called ‘Linvilla Orchards’ which was known for it’s octagonal barn. The wonderful smells of that red candy coating boiling for the freshly picked apples made your mouth water. The old barn burnt down a few years ago and was rebuilt. I’d love to go there again soon!
We had a rain out of a day and it was raw outside. I think it’s in the 40s right now.
Just got finished watching ‘Pawn Stars’ and ‘American Pickers’ on ‘The History Channel’. I love to see what people bring in the pawn shop in Vegas and want Mike and Frank find on their picks in old garages, etc. They were on ‘The Rachael Ray Show’ today and found her a ‘spaghetti lamp’(Something like the link). It was like a swirly white plastic upside down fish bowl with green and blue squiggles on it. She loved it.
Off to bed really soon as I had a restless night last night.
I recommend Chicken Piccata with Angel Hair Pasta from the packaged mix I found from Macaroni Grill at the store. It’s just the way I love chicken.
Garden Helpers & Meatless Mondays
I like my collage for today as it is all about ‘working’ outside in the gardens. The children are from a 1936 reader that my mom could have used back then as she was 6 yrs old that year. The book is in such great shape, I decided to only scan some of the photos and not to cut it up.
It’s so great to dig through my art and paper stuff each day, but I need to do some major tidying. Everytime I try to tidy, I get ideas for new collages. This is #18! I really haven’t been stumped yet-let’s see how I do on #156.
Sir Paul McCartney and his daughters were on a leaflet we received at the concert about trying to go meatless one day a week, so why not on Mondays? I did eat a leftover half of prime rib sandwich for lunch, but our dinner was totally meatless. I did a Strata with Artisan bread, tomato, parsley, feta, onion and eggs-very delicious.

Our salad was Arugula with white beans, red pepper and handmade lemony dressing. I got a new cookbook at The Christmas*Tree Shoppe from Food & Wine magazine. They had several editions. They review 25 cookbooks from that particular year and include several recipes from each. The ones we had were in the first few chapters!
Sean and I are taking my mom to Lancaster (that’s if she shows up as she said she’d sleep over at her brother’s and drive over). Originally we were thinking Atlantic City, but that’s 90 miles or so and it’s expensive down there. Plus we had her there on our vacation in ’08 and ’09. We can take her to the Smorgesbord. If we actually were taking her on the 23rd, she’d get a free dinner-rats. I think it will be a nice change of scenery for her too.
A walk around Kennett Square PA’s 25th Mushroom Festival
It was an overcast, but not so warm day today. Sean and I went up to the next town over and got a large sampling of ‘fair’ food to bring home. We saw that Aetna and Food Network were sponsors and heard Bobby Flay had been there (after looking at the story about this, I believe this wasn’t so). Today lovely Oklahoma native Sunny Anderson from the Food Network Show ‘Cooking for Real’ was there. She was very sweet to meet.
Sean got a big frosty mug of cream (vanilla) soda that you could get ‘free’ refills on. I know he wanted one last year, but the price and the bees were bad. It was still pricey, but it was a huge drink and he brought the mug home.
The food haul-two cups of mushroom soup (for me) from Longwood Gardens. They forgot to give me a mushroom shaped cookie I paid for. I figure I am going to LG for free now and we had to park far away or I’d go get it. Got a springroll from Talula’s Table (the chef had been on Martha Stewart) which had a nice amount of lemon grass in it. We also got a noodle and mushroom dish that Sean took with him to work and he ate a huge sausage sandwich for lunch! It’s all about the food, baby!
Since we parked down a street with century old homes, I snapped a few shots of them to share.
Photo Hunt-Colorful
This is one of the colorful displays found at the Philadelphia Flower Show last year. The designs look a bit like Easter eggs, don’t they?
Pulling floss to make something for my mom for her upcoming 80th birthday next month. I think I can get it finished-just have to start it!
Happy Weekend to you All!
Sir Paul…it will be an honor!

The other night Brian was listening to CDs. That always helps to lighten his mood and he acts like his old self as he is relaxing and not worrying about anything. 9 out of 10 times he’ll put on some ‘Wings’ for me which he did that night. I then remembered that Sir Paul will be in Philly sometime in the future. I went online and it’s the 14th of this month. I asked if we could go and Brian said ‘YES’! Woo hoo! The good tickets are all gone, and we really couldn’t afford them anyway. The ones I got are extreme stage right, but not really high up. And if there are big screens, that will be neat too. And who is to say we won’t take a little walk to see him closer? I was just at the venue with my friend to see James Taylor and Carole King. The worse part will be the parking, but there is no Phillies game that night, so it should be better than the last time I was there.
Brian’s gone to most concerts over the years to see performers I like. The last time he went to one he really ‘got into’ was Hall & Oates in the early 80s (I love H&O too). I’m going to bring my camera in my purse again.
Talk about crossing something off your bucket list. Can’t wait! I had a hard time getting to sleep last night.
PS-My older brother Dave is a huge Beatles fan and has the same bass Paul is holding above.
