Lilytopia Revisited

Lilies against the window, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

As I had done last year, I made sure I went to Longwood Gardens before the 30th to see the amazing, abundant and absolutely gorgeous lily display. I was not disappointed. It was warm, but a nice breeze kicked up a few times. I am planning on trying to go to LG a few times a week to walk. I feel better on the new hbp med-more like my old self and I hope it’s helping. Anyway, here are more shots, enjoy and have a great weekend.

Hidden Acres Amish Nursery, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Today I did get out to the doctor’s office to sign the release papers to the new doctor(s). Since I drove all the way out there, I decided to take a drive around to look for nurseries. It was about 90 degrees out-was I crazy to go driving around? I was ‘into’ adding to foursquare, the phone app that says where you are going. I checked into 5 places, but not the little nursery pictured here-too remote. I left the hospital and headed to Oxford, past Lincoln University and Tastykake Bakery. I decided to stop at Dollar General and Rita’s Water Ice (had Mango and Peach Gelato). I went by one small perennial place but it was a bit on the small side. I decided to stop at a thrift shop and bought a few little things. Will show the sweet mermaid decoration from I think I the 50s or 60s. I asked the young man in there about nurseries and he said there was an Amish one down the hill and to look for a sign. I drove by the road and had to go through a auto shop, down a road and then up a gravel road and found ‘Hidden Acres’. There was no one around and I was looking around for about 10 minutes. I could have helped myself (ha ha), but just got in the car to leave and the Amish lady came around the corner and she said she was at the house. I think most of what I bought was between $1-$3. : ) She helped me to the car and I had a big bag of plastic trays and pots in the back I was taking to Lowes (they recycle) and she took them. Glad to help.
My last stop was for white pizza for Sean and me as Brian was going to his dad’s house for a visit. After dinner I planted a few more pots of things. The air was so thick I could almost slice it.
So I had a nice time. I’ll be able to share more photos when I drive around as I don’t mind snapping photos with a cellphone. : )
I’m thinking of going to Longwood Gardens tomorrow before noon as the exterminator is suppose to come between 2-4.
Right now we have a thunderstorm watch-not a surprised!

Garden flashback

My friend Zoey, over at Perennial Passion has planted some flower seeds recently. I wanted to show her some Nasturtiums that I just stuck in the ground and how well they did back in 2008. They do well every year!
So, I haven’t posted since Monday-well I got a ‘new’ cellphone, actually Sean’s old Android-the G1 Google and he got a new Samsung Galaxy. We were going to trade it in, but the sales guy said we could get the internet on two phones for the same price (we were paying $25 a month-well Sean was), so I kept it and gave Brian my phone. I’ve been practicing with it, adding Facebook, taking photos to send to FB and trying apps like Foursquare (you check in to different restaurants, etc and become mayor if you check in enough). I’ve only checked into Giant Food Store so far-so exciting-lol.
I did go out and take photos with my Canon last night and since there were so many tv show finales, I forgot to upload them to share.
Because of all the rain, I lost a few plants that just rotted in their pots-bummer. The Coleus are struggling too. I need to mulch also. We are getting summer like weather for the next few days-ugh-in the high 80s to near 90!
We are having an exterminator check out a pile of ‘frass’ (saw dust) on the roof that is over the family room that use to be the garage. There was one pile there on Sunday and a new one Wednesday. One friend said maybe Carpenters ants or bees and someone else said termites! We don’t need this right now-rats. I wanted to get a pal of my brother’s to paint a few high spots that Brian won’t this summer as the paint is peeling so badly.
Hope the bug guy will be honest and reasonable-can that happen? : )
Tomorrow I may take a drive to my now ‘old’ gyn as I have to sign a release for my records. I decided to go to a new doctor(s) affiliated with the hospital I had my appendix out in as I like it better than the other hospital I had the ablation in. I really need to get a few teeth checked as ‘patches’ feel like they are coming off. It’s always something!

Tag card

I found the pretty tags at JoAnn’s and used one on a 4″ x 4″ collage card. The fairy is vintage art. I’m getting excited to see my own little garden of roses blooming soon. The Julia Child ‘butter’ tinted one looks good. I have two yellow rosebushes (actually three, but one is in Sean’s garden) as I love yellow roses.
I had my mom and her friend drive out for a brief visit on Sunday. She came bearing gifts of produce and chicken which was nice as I used both for dinner.
A strange occurence was found on my roof on Sunday. I was near the road raking out yet another garden (yucca) and I scanned the roof and saw a neat pile of what looked like sawdust over the family room. I called Brian out and neither of us saw holes. Bri got out the ladder and it was sawdust. We’re thinking carpenter ants and they must be inside the attic area where we can’t get to them in a low spot, though we aren’t seeing any inside the main house-hope not. If it happens again, I’m getting an exterminator to check it out. It’s probably not termites as most of my house is cinder blocks and stucco. It’s always something!

Catching the bride

We had a lovely time helping Jenn, a sweet Collins cousin celebrate her marriage to Mike. Wasn’t she a beautiful bride and look at that gown!

We were entertained by the little ringbearer-his mom was a bridesmaid and not amused. I think he’s about 4.

Here’s an update for Zoey about the food…
We had a choice between salmon with crab imperial or chicken stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes. We chose the salmon-a very large piece with delicious scalloped potatoes and green beans. They had a spring garden salad first with blue cheese, cranberries and red pear tomatoes with a Balsamic dressing-really good. I saw the man near me pick out all the good stuff! And there was an hour of appetizers with appletinis (they ran out-but they had an open bar) and coconut shrimp, spring rolls, sushi in a little ice cream cone like cracker (I don’t like sushi) and a few others. Wedding cakes and homemade cookies for dessert-the groom’s family are bakers! : )

I have two tall bookcases filled to the brim and now the books are spilling out onto the floor! I really need to ‘get down to brass tacks’ and keep books I really like. I have bookcases in every room of the house! I’ve been collecting books since I’ve been a teenager. And the top shelf shown here are my husband’s books.
