Photo Hunt-Near

Farewell Penn State, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Seems I get Sean to pose ‘near’ things all the time. Here he around the time he graduated from Penn State.

So I have lots of photos of him posing at different ages which makes the trip or journey that more interesting!

Abandoned relatives

Girl in Oval with pointed hat, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Sean was off a few days ago and we went driving around Newark, DE. First we had Kalamata olive and mushroom pizza and salad at a coal-fired pizza place. We enjoy it, but not sure if I should be eating the very well done crust. They tell you it’s served that way as a warning?~ LOL~ My tummy didn’t feel well afterwards, but I’m good now.
We then looked around a few car lots at he saw some from the internet he wanted to check out. We went to where I bought the Mariner and the same fella came out-I swear he sounds just like Joe Pesce when he talks. It was very warm and when the guy opened the car at Sean came to see, it was nasty inside! The passenger seat had a big stain on it-you know the kind like water leaves! Of course the guy said ‘unacceptable’, but they still put it on the lot that way. Ugh. Pass.
Afterwards I asked Sean if we could check out a nearby antique mall. I had gone there once with Brian but it was after we had dropped my vehicle off at the dealership and he had to get back to work, a quickie look around. I found 4 vintage photos for my collection that I share on Flickr. Isn’t this little girl darling? I love her innocent face and pointy hat. And they are truly abandoned relatives. The lady in the antique mall said that people come in and look to see if there are names on the photos and look on ancestry.com and try and sell to the ‘maybe’ relatives. Never thought to do that. Only one of these had names-this one, but only who was getting this photo.
Yesterday I dropped off 15 more things at the thrift shop. I hope I sell more things! It’s really jam-packed and a hodge podge of things. They make an attempt to try and organize a few things -like the glass doo-dads in the window and the pricier stuff in cases.
I left and headed to Hockessin, DE where I mailed something to Maine at the P.O. there. Went in Tuesday Morning and it was picked over from their recent sale. I got a rotissiere chicken and a few groceries at the Acme. To end the day I went to get my hbp med and went in Peebles where I found adorable black Calvin Klein shorts, a long flowery skirt and a couple of tops-one a peasant style with x-stitches all over it. I thought it looked very 70s. Brian said I look like I should be serving beer!
We finally got rain today-lots of downpours. We haven’t had a good rain for over a week. I was paying bills, washing clothes and tried to get into cleaning a messy part of the family room where the books are stacked, but Bri had his own personal jumble of papers (next to the side of his chair). He can’t organize worth a hoot. He has a little job ahead of him and isn’t allowed to bring it back in the room.
The garden place where I bought a lot of plants back in May is giving alot of them away free tomorrow-it’s about 25 minutes from here and not sure if I know where to put anything else. I would say they are probably giving away flowers like impatiens and petunias. We can never get up early enough to do stuff like this. I’m happy with what I have this year. : ) Got our first big tomato today and we bought it from the above nursery!

Summer spruce up

Repainted garden gnomes, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

As you know I have a garden that has both fairies and gnomes at the side of our house. I’ve have this garden a number of years and some of the older inhabitants were starting to look faded and sad. I picked 4 of the worst and cleaned them up and gessoed them all in white as I didn’t want to sand off paint I knew nothing about. I’m not that great with faces, but I think these aren’t too bad. After this shot, I sprayed them with acrylic sealer.
Here is Mr.and Mrs. Gnome back out near the Strawberry house (that needs a dab of green paint on the front there).

Here’s a new flower that I saw at Longwood Garden and wanted to see if it spreads. It’s called Throatwort:

The tomatoes almost 5 feet tall now! It helps that they are planted in a circle as they have the fence for support.

There’s Brian cutting the grass tonight. See that huge maple there-he planted it! Like all the other trees, this is way too big!

The daisies are blooming nicely at the corner of the house and near the pond.

This is around the front. The hanging baskets look good (Fuchsia and Geranium). I need to weed out a lot of things like spent Bleeding Heart.

Tomorrow I go drop more things off at the thrift shop. The first bunch of things isn’t selling well. I left a message for someone to call back and she did tonight. I had my old art table and she said to bring it over Sunday or another week. I can bring 15 items at a time and only 2 have sold in 2 weeks. I guess people are using money for vacations. I plan to keep consigning.

Sean always likes to light some of his own fireworks!

New York City Macy’s Fireworks

Philadelphia Fireworks in front of The Art Museum

We’ve had a very low key day. My mom was suppose to come out with her friend Jim, but she decided her dog needed her more! Little Kelsey is really afraid of fireworks. She was doing some clothes sorting and Jim was helping her out too.

Brian and I did some tile repair out on the front steps-14 came loose this past winter. Between the cold and ice-or-the paint underneath may have just gotten loose. Probably a combo of the above. We were trying to chip off the old cement and broke a few tiles, so we worked around that. It looks ok, better than the gray showing underneath. We had extra tiles saved from 12 years ago which saved us using the broken ones.

I did make bacon and egg potato salad, a cold green bean salad and had some store bought macaroni salad. Also cut up watermelon (I’m the only one who ate the watermelon so far). I went to clean up a bit out front and Bri let the burgers go ‘extra crispy’! He put on enough charcoal for 10 steaks! I had grated and pressed onion in them too. Oh well. Sean got in from work at 6:45 and enjoyed his feast.

The guys just went to the fireworks. I am fine sitting here in my bug free and cool family room. I would have enjoyed the show in Philly with Michael McDonald, etc. but we just aren’t crowd lovers.

Goodbye friend

Standard

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you of the passing of my ‘internet’ friend Warren. He passed on June 2nd and I just found out about it today. His wife had left me a message on Facebook to call her and I did within an hour and learned this sad news. And he wasn’t yet 54. He was a big and tall man (I think like 6’7″) and had health problems for years. His blood pressure was very low and he was going to have something done to his ankles (draining?) and he got an infection that went through him. He loved cats and he would ask about Cosmo all the time. I think he found me on tribe.net because I had posted a photo of Cosmo and he looks like Warren’s cat Boris. He had to tell me and we became pals.

Above is Warren and his ‘newest’ love Susannah.
Besides cats, he loved roses, Disney, Monty Python and opera! He was very smart and witty and cracked me up a lot through his instant messages at times. Here is a 2011 rose:

I asked his wife in a message to keep in touch. I was in a bit of shock when I called to say so then. I bet she will move up to be near her daughter(s?) in Washington state. I mentioned how funny he was and she said he made her laugh everyday. How many people can say that?

Today I had lunch with my high school pal Heather. We get together now and then which is nice. I so enjoy talking to ladies my own age instead of just men or my mom. Goes to show that many of my good friends are around my age. I have friends in their late 30s and I tell them I’m kinda like an auntie, but we share many of the same interests. : )
Sean went along for the ride, dropped me off and Heather and I went in PF Chang’s for lunch. Afterwards, Sean and I strolled along in some high priced stores (I check out the sales or sale rooms-but got nothing today). We then went over to Home Goods and I got some new towels, tea and a few little things. That fancy shamancy gardening place had a sale-actually what the sale price is should be their real prices-lol. I got some hot pink phlox in a big pot. When I got home I noticed it had powdery mildew on it. I know that is common with phlox, but should I wipe it off? I let Sean pick it out while I waited at the register, so I didn’t see it until I got home-not a good move. I think the gardening is continuing all summer here. I am really pleased with how my gardens are coming along. I would like to mulch the veggie garden as it looks really dry.
No big plans for the 4th-my oldest brother is turning 57! Wow! ; )

Christmas Tree 2006

I was working outside for a few hours with the weed whacker late this morning until the spool wouldn’t stay in place anymore. I was almost finished what I wanted to do too. Did the front sidewalk, the back patio edge and pond. Then the pond looked nasty, so I drained that out a lot and a tiny frog popped up! There use to be a big one in there. Guess he moved out and let ‘Elvis’ move in. So I got out the half moon edger and did almost around the entire pond. Things look better when they are edged-so nice and neat. I worked the ground enough for planting some flowers and I added three in the pond garden. I came in took a shower and tried to relax again outside (did I mention how nice the weather is today?) until I saw pots needed watering, so I did some of that and planted polka dot plants and another unusual plant in the fairy garden. Whew! I’m bushed!
