I got the newest issue of ‘Peeps’ (let’s call it that) Magazine as it featured ‘people’ who have lost a ton of weight. Now most of the ones they showed were in their 20s-30s and me being in my early 50s, I wanted to see if anyone this age could loss weight because of having hormonal issues, etc. Then I ran across the article on Drew ‘Price is Right’ Carrey! Holy cow-he looks like a different person:

Amazing-he went for about 246 to 180. Losing his older brother was a wake up call for him. Though he’s a guy, I wanted to share.
I did my first set of ‘floor exercises’ in a week or so as I haven’t been well because of my sinus condition. I went to the pharmacy to get my hbp medicine and wanted to see what I could take as regular Suda*fed isn’t good-the kind with PE in it is ok. I came home and took some and feel so much better. I do want to lose 20 pounds to start. We love our carbs like pasta and bread, but I guess I’ll have to change to whole wheat pasta, etc. I am urging Brian to do some kind of exercise as he is getting a tummy again and snacking endlessly.
Will do some walking as weather permits, but I really want to not take hbp medicine though the pharmacist said it’s so common now you wouldn’t believe it.

Still here, but doing some movin’ and shakin’
In other words, I am doing last minute stuff! Brian has some vacation days, so he took off Wednesday through next week (no quiet time for you-know-who)! He went to the doctor with me, but I made him stay in the waiting room. My blood pressure was what I was getting at home, so it’s creeping closer to the normal mark, but I still have to pop a pill a day. And he said my thyroid was a bit sluggish, but it felt fine. In March I will get more bloodwork to check that. In the meantime, I will do my exercises, take my kelp (for iodine) and watch what I eat. I never had issues with anything until I hit this age. If you wonder about your thyroid, I was reading in a book I bought at Big*Lots last night. It’s by Robin McGraw, Dr.*Phil’s wife and it’s called ‘What’s Age got to do with it?’ If you are my age, take your temperature under your arm before rising every day for 4 days (young woman have to do it on ‘certain’ days). If it’s a degree under normal (98.6), you probably have a sluggish thyroid.
Brian and I had fun shopping at the above store and Peebles. Got some great buys on little last minute gifts by Sarah*Payton home decor items. I may sneak out and get a couple of more.
So Brian and I were discussing my van and I think we are going to donate it charity (they take them even if they aren’t running), but mine had a few issues and we don’t want to spend the money to repair it. It’s been ‘almost’ a lemon for the almost 12 years we owned it. We had to get a new transmission when we first bought it, it had a funny noise near the tire area, etc. We will get a newer car for Brian and I will use his Taurus (that has issues) for 6 months or so and replace that. Cars are pains in the butt! I am sick of not having a car to jump in! Wish us luck as the ball will probably get rolling on this in the new year.
Just had to get the shopping out of the way
I dragged Brian to the grocery store and kind of knew this one place would be fairly quiet-I think I saw maybe 5 or so other shoppers. There are a few things I have to pick up at the closer store, but I got our meat for Christmas-prime rib! Yum! And tomorrow I think I’ll make some French onion soup as the first course (or I may do some cookies and then the soup). We had some of the above soup at Brian’s reunion and I forgot how yummy it is. I’ll do some kind of pasta dish for the night before. We’ll be seeing my mom that night and I’ll bring the pot down to share with her and whoever is there to eat it! We’ll drop by my brother’s house too. We have been going to midnight mass at a church nearby. Our own church doesn’t do it-I don’t know why, but to me it welcomes Christmas and it is indeed a special time.
I was cleaning more today and fighting with my sinuses too. I’m not allowed to take Sudafed with the HBP med I am on. That’s not good as now I have to do more than I use to have to do.
I found a photo of Sean, my nephew and Uncle Don taken about 6 years ago. Half the family had gone over to give gifts and to visit Uncle Don and Aunt M as she was still living there at the time. Speaking of Aunt M., she will be 95 tomorrow (in a nursing home). Uncle didn’t look so hot in at old photo. Mom said she misses talking to him on a daily basis. That’s exactly what I missed when my Grandmom got too feeble to answer the phone.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I’ll get outside one of these nights for some house shots. It’s just to dang cold!
Congrats to book winner
I wrote the numbers 1-5 on little pieces of paper and shook them in an Altoid tin and #5-Michele won the Nancy Noel angel book. I have emailed her and I hope she gets back to me shortly. This is a beautiful book and I’m sorry more people didn’t try to win it, but I’m glad I had 5 enter.
Still decorating! I couldn’t find the stockings and kept seeing things I wanted to use in the living room and family room. I mainly just do those two spaces as my house isn’t that large. I need to find my musical ornament with the skating scene inside. I decided to put batteries in lots of things, so there are interactive things too. : )
I got my cards ‘almost’ all finished and mailed off. I kinda play a waiting game with some people who seem to never send cards and it’s not the cheapest thing to do anymore. I was really sad to see that a bag of my saved cards had fallen on the floor near where we had flooding and they got wet and were growing mold-ugh! I was weary about looking around that area because it’s so crowded with stuff and was sorry to see this and who knows what else may be ruined I’m not seeing. : (
I will take some photos all around one of these days. I do major cleaning at this time of year and want things to look spiffy for photos.
I go back to the doctor next week for a check-up. Couldn’t see the first doctor, but will see the doctor’s PA. He’s been there forever and I trust he can read a blood pressure and blood test results. My bp seems to be down, like in the 130s on the top and around 77 on the bottom. It’s been up to 150 and down in the 140s. I am taking a pill a day. I read it takes 6 weeks to see if it truly helps you and this seems to be. A lady from Facebook had a mini-stroke, but she lives in a tropical area and was in the states for a visit-happened to her in PA. She’s telling me to go to the doctor and I had already! Sometimes people forget to pull down the rest of the comments.
Update-Michele just got back to me-the book will be on it’s way soon!
Comes and goes
I get excited about Christmas and then something happens. Today Sean and I were going to take the van about 5 miles down the road to a produce place I found. He started to back up and had to put his foot all the down on the pedal! Now how lucky was it that we were still in the driveway? After we went out, I said I’d treat him to lunch. Our feathers were a bit ruffled as it was and we needed a nice meal. We went to this place we frequent once a month and went up to the counter. The guy was making some kind of beverage, like a smoothie and he let us stand there without making eye contact or saying a word. We decided to spend our money on lunch elsewhere and found a nice cafe with very nice women. It was like night and day.
This afternoon, I was putting away the autumn decor and that took a while. I tried to dress the mantel with one kind of garland, and it didn’t work. I have some pink tinsel up now, but I think I am going to go for an evergreen with something wrapped around it. I found a pretty faux poinsettia topiary, but the pot is cracked and it’s kind of big. I did have fun putting out the Blushing Bunnies and Cherished Teddies-so cute.
My Christmas card will hopefully be assembled and printed by Tuesday. I need to borrow Sean’s car to go to my hometown for a hair appointment on Monday. Someone will have to pick him up at 10:30 at night.
My mom seems to have her financial situation moving along and things will be better when my brother starts his new job and they both get on their feet.
I was happy that I could get my monthly oil payments reduced and also get the service added on in case we need it.
Cancel lots of email subscriptions that were clogging my inbox like crazy. Is it necessary to send 1-2 emails a day?
Almost finished one of the best books I’ve read in a long time called ‘The Forgotten Garden’ by Kate Morton. I like endings that surprise me! Sometimes I wonder if the author’s ever write the endings first? : )
We may put up the tree tomorrow if I more more stuff out of the way. : )
Photo Hunt-Written
I have shown this before, but it is fun to see how I use to write back in 1967. That’s the school in the photo. We went to one of two elementary schoolse and attended here for Kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grade. It’s an administration building now. I remember the seesaws were popular and I remember singing Mockingbird (before James Taylor and Carly Simon did). I’m still in touch with a few members of my Kindergarten class.
History from Wikipedia about the Upper Providence school district:
Formal education began when local Quaker, James Turner, left money in his 1787 will to establish Blue Hill School near Chapel and Providence Roads. The Union Library on Sycamore Mill Road opened in 1813 and had over eight hundred volumes by 1843. Sandy Bank School opened in 1836, and was rebuilt 1905 and enlarged in 1926. Lower Banks School opened in 1872. The Rose Tree Union School District was established in 1947.
I am thankful
I wanted to make a Thanksgiving collage, but the scrap clippings are slim pickings. I did have that new pumpkin paper and the words from another paper.
I am thankful that my blood work was ok. My thyroid reading was 4.75 and it should be around 4.2. It may be that way from starting the high bp medicine 5 days earlier. The nurse said the doctor just wants to watch it. Seems like it’s another hormone issue to me. I am ‘this close’ to going to a specialist.
I’ve been upping the exercise lately. I do some floor exercises and walk around the yard. It’s not 30 minutes, but it’s a start.
I got exercise carrying the 20 pound frozen bird out of the freezer down in the basement. Brian said I should have waited for him. : )

Princess Kate…next year!
Princess Kate 4″ x 4″ Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I’m happy to hear that Prince William ‘finally’ became engaged to his steady of what is it, 8 yrs. It happened last month, but they just told the public today. She is wearing Diana’s sapphire ring-hope it isn’t jinxed, but again, after all those years he should know! : )
I have that neat crown scrapbook paper and added the young lady under one. She’s really a fairy princess what-a-be. : )
I had a very restless night last night. I forgot to take a Tylenol before the fasting period began for the bloodwork. Big mistake. I had dragged about 14 grocery bags in earlier and was feeling that. I got myself to the doc’s office and was in and out in 15 minutes. Please keep me in your thoughts as it’s been a while. Bri had bloodwork last week and hasn’t heard, so he’ll probably get his results in the mail.
It was a good day for a nap-rainy and blah, so that’s what I did.
I got up refreshed to enjoy Barbra Streisand on Oprah. I love her estate in California:
And Babs and Bob are together again for their 1st interview ever! Did you not love ‘The Way We Were’ too?
