Apple of my Eye

Apple of my Eye 4" x 4 Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I was using the glaze and the stampers the other night and did apples and leaves and then had no idea what I was going to add to this. I was looking for a photo, and this sweet little baby seemed to be the right fit. I had bought the tree sticker up in Lahaska last month and added that with some paper stickers. I did add a little color to those ‘apple’ cheeks and whites to his eyes.
Next I picked up a kid’s music book and found the ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star’ song and went from there. It has a touch of glittler on it too.

Had one of those nights when I just tossed and turned. I think I was hungry. We went to a restaurant last night in the next town and they put us near the door to the kitchen. That was one thing, but I found a piece of bone in my chicken salad club! I saw it before I bit into it. Ugh.
Our microwave is on the fritz too! I can’t believe the luck we have with appliances. The dishwasher had a recall, we had to get a new washer in the summer and now this. I will have to see if a GE repairman can come out and I believe they take it to fix it. We also have continuing slow drains in the bathrooms.
Mom, her friend and my brother have been busy with her house. She is getting it appraised tomorrow, so they did about 5 years worth of work in a few weeks. This is the brother who didn’t live around here for 15 years, so it was his time to do stuff for mom, though he complains about all of us not being there. He isn’t feeling well and is getting checked out this week. When it rains it pours!

Let My Love

This was fun to do, especially after having a day when my eyes and sinuses were aching from the very dry conditions here in Pennsylvania. The weatherman said it’s only 16% humidity with low dew points. And it’s in the 60s during the day.
I had a tub full of different glazes and stampers-remember that fad from about 14 yrs ago? I think Plaid is the one that came out with them. The glaze is still good! You paint it on the stampers and press on paper. I hand painted some gold in. The verse is from a book from 1946 and the lady is one of a few I scanned from an old book.
Spent some time this morning ripping out my DaVinci lady’s right eye! Ugh! For some reason I counted over from the middle and left a space. It’s almost fully repaired now.
Sean and I went out to lunch and then to a fresh market place similar to Trader Joe’s but more expensive. We didn’t purchase too much, just a few veggies and mushroom ravioli that Bri and I had for dinner.
Have a great Saturday!

Throughout the Land

Today is Veteran’s Day in the US. I finally made a collage to commemorate the day a few hours ago. I found the stars and striped wing in an old American history book. I feel like it’s a day we should go about our lives quietly and with dignity.
I went to the doctor and my bp was high again. The tech took it right after I got there and then the doctor did. The reading was 20 points lower for the doctor. I’m on hp medicine and I’m getting bloodwork on Tuesday. I really try and take care of myself and watch what I make for meals and how much I eat. The issue is probably the exercise thing, but I get lots of aches and pains. I think she wrote down that I have arthritis too. At least I can try and do more. She also said stress and hormones can play a factor in high bp.
I also made this card for yesterday.

My mom went to the hearing guy near here yesterday and she still is having trouble with her hearing aids today. I wish she would write down what the guy says! Sean and I took her to a Wally World nearby so he could get new front tires (and his discount). We enjoyed looking around the store and then took mom to Chili’s which she loved. Mom stayed overnight and left quickly because my brother and her friend were helping her do things at her house.
So I’m trying to ‘hang in there’, though my tummy is off. I ate stuff I shouldn’t have yesterday (salsa, soft pretzels and caramel corn-not in that order- and plus I was stressed about the visit today.

Imagine

Imagine 4" x 4" Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

My uncle checked himself into a nursing home without telling my mom. I got the lowdown from his stepdaughter. He isn’t too far from the hospital that he was in. He still is having trouble getting up by himself as he is still weak. His stepdaughter said she needs to have his house professionally cleaned. Not sure if he’ll be going back there, but he wants to.
I made an appointment with the doctor to talk about my blood pressure. The bottom number is usually normal but the top one hasn’t been below 148 and goes up to 177. Strange. I’ve had the worst PMS this month and that concerns me. I had a hot flash that lasted 1/2 hour before I took my socks off to cool down. This is a difficult age for sure!
So today I had this little chipmunk left from a guide book page (used another for a greeting card) and he looked cute with the tree background. The rest just seemed to fit.
Mom is suppose to try again to come out and get her hearing aides adjusted. She was set to come on Monday and the man who does the adjusting wasn’t there! Whew! She goes to the nearby senior center.
It was a nice day and I took a stroll and then took Mr. Cosmo Kitty out for one. He had some catnip too. When we were eating dinner, I looked down at his sorry begging face and saw a tick crawling near his eye! Wow-thought they were gone for the winter.

Watching

Watching 4" x 4" Collage card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I made this after talking to my uncle who gave me very short answers and acted like he didn’t want to talk. I feel so bad for him laying there in the hospital for over two weeks. He is still very weak.
Sean and I watched a kind of creepy movie called ‘The Lovely Bones’. It was suppose to take place in Norristown, PA, about 45 minutes or so from here. The author is from Malvern where Brian grew up. What’s creepy is the 14 yr old girl gets murdered by her neighbor. I was the same age as her in 1973. I had the same pencil box. We now have the same green lidded candy dish as the neighbor. Yikes. So after Susie is killed, she’s in like a pergatory and she sees big things and wild things. I guess my collage is influenced by that and this guy Randall who makes the same size cards and sells them for $25 each. There’s an idea!
Brian went to get bloodwork today, so wish him luck. He may have to get a few things checked out. His dad is getting his cataract consultation on Wednesday. I asked if he would not get the surgery on the 19th for obvious reasons (like I only have one birthday a year and he hasn’t been to the eye doctor in 15 yrs.).
I’m in the process of my pre-holiday cleaning. I can’t stand to have to clean and decorate-too much work. My back has been bad, especially if I sit on the floor or do too much leaning over. Ugh.

Hey, did you recognize Nancy Drew up there?

Polly put the Kettle on-it’s getting darn cold!

I was suppose to spend the day tidying up, but alas, I was not up to it from our excursion yesterday. Mom said my uncle was so beat he couldn’t get out of the hospital bed today. I worry about him. He’s like a dad to me and I think I remind him of his mom. Like her, I will sit and figure out how to put things together or cook many dishes from memory.
I did go to a book sale yesterday and found a few new books for my collage art and a few to sell. I found this cute Kate Greenway drawing in the annotated Mother Goose book and decided to use it as I am a teetotaler myself. Can’t stand to drink coffee.
And the next one, for today is the ‘udderly divine bovine’. I just couldn’t help myself.

My mom may be staying overnight tomorrow, but not sure because of the pets. The little dog would only have to be in the cage a few hours. I think she needs a change of scenery. She is coming out in this area to get her hearing aides adjusted-for the first time since she got them and it’s long over do! Amen.

Went to see my Uncle

Standard

Sean and I went to see Uncle Don on Saturday afternoon. I mentally get myself ready to go in a hospital, especially one I have recent scary memories about-like taking Brian to the ER in 4/09 and me having all those mammograms and the biopsy in 11/07. So as I walked past those places, I tried to focus on being sweet for my uncle who use to call me ‘baby doll’, etc. We get off the elevator and there was my mom and she says, I want to prepare you as he doesn’t look good at all, etc. I don’t know about you, but I want to be the judge on how I think people look and she made me all nervous and I had that post nasal issue and a funny feeling in my tummy. Uncle Don was covered over up to his neck, though it was hot in there. He was laying down and he’s only about 130 on a 5’11” frame, so he’s all skin and bones. He was tired as they had him up and walking a bit. His color is a bit pasty too. He asked how Bri’s dad was and also asked Sean when ‘Joe Pa’ was coming on (Penn State football). We only saw him for 15 minutes and left! I bet he went right to sleep and I hope he saw the game. He has a lot of contraptions around him too. It’s hard to go and stare at a sick one. I think he appreciated us saying ‘hi’ at least. He probably will be put right into a nursing home.
And Brian got his dad to the eye doctor for the 1st time in at least 15+ yrs. He of course has cataracts (age 87 like Uncle Don) and needs to have them removed. The eye doctor said he wouldn’t pass a driver’s test either.
After we left the hospital, my mom and her friend followed us to the Chester County book sale about 10 miles or so away. They had tons of books and we purchased a few and found some gems like a book about the town where mom grew up (Lansdowne, PA) and a book about the Brandywine area (where we live now). We parted ways and Sean and I went in the adjacent mall and got a Five Guys burger as we basically skipped lunch.
We started to watch ‘The Lovely Bones’ later and we looked up the movie on Wikipedia and found out that the author, Alice Sebold grew up in the same area as Brian did! Cool. The movie is based in Norristown, PA., about an hour from here.
Turn your clocks back people!

Cherry Syrup 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I actually can check off 3 things on my long list of projects I need to do. I have three more, not counting my daily adventure in collage.
This one is about the Snaider cherry syrup, caught my eye when I was sorting through papers. The bottom layer is a Tim Holtz bottle cap paper-perfect! I added some stippling in red, the Mary Engelbreit cherries and a plain bottle cap.
I embellished a Dollar Store frame for a friend as she’ll do one with me. I will show it to you after she receives it. I like the way it turned out-looks like it cost more than a dollar!
And I also made a Thanksgiving card to trade with a Flickr group.

Mom said my uncle was having more tests run on him. We will hopefully be able to see him, but won’t stay if he is not up to it. I wish I could bring him something yummy to eat, but of course that wouldn’t do.

A setback

Standard

My mom just called and said my Uncle Don is experiencing the same symptoms he had before surgery and isn’t doing well. He’s been a strong 87 yr old so far, and I feel terrible he is feeling weak again. Sean and I will go see him tomorrow as Brian has to take his 87 yr old dad to the eye doctor for the first time in like 15-16 yrs. We weren’t crazy about him driving as he was saying one eye is blurry now. I worry about stubborn people like him. He will go to the dentist, but when it comes to his eyes, ‘his normal’ was just fine and dandy. One of the disagreements I have with Brian is that he doesn’t take a stand that much against his dad. I can’t tell you how crazy he drove us about wanting to sell a few gold pieces. We sent it off to an internet place (A- rating with BBB) and he didn’t like how much they offered for a necklace. I think they’ve have at least 3 hours combined talk over a few hundred bucks.
Please keep my uncle in your thoughts and prayers.
