Life is a Voyage

With so many people traveling this week for Thanksgiving, I found this saved calendar page from Mary Englebreit a good choice for a collage. I added the pink sunglasses-aren’t they cute? I was thinking about an old friend that travels a lot and wonder where she has been or is going.
Had a nice pork roast and sauteed mushroom salad for dinner.
Here’s Kate’s Quilt table piece I bought. Her contact info is under the photo on Flickr. I don’t have a link to her other pieces. This was only $10.

Here is my knitted pom-pom scarf! Please note the newly ‘stuffed’ seat cushion it is on. : )

I tried to download an Oz book and the pictures didn’t show, but the words were there.

I’m waiting on the bloodwork results and am a bit nervous. Crossing fingers!

It took Brian several hours to install our new microwave. When we opened the box, I realized why it was a good price-the one we picked up was another Samsung model. I was a bit peeved. There’s also a dent on one side that we didn’t make. When Bri went to put in the vent cover, the vents are on the top, not pointed to the front like illustrated in the installation booklet. I do plan to call for the above problems (plus the fan is really loud). I paid for a special warranty, so maybe they will take a look at it. I also took photos of the dent and incorrect vent. My kitchen needs a good tidying up too.
While Bri was struggling with the blasted machine, I made my collage cards. I went through my scrap box and came up with these. The mansion behind the lady with the guitar stated under photo that it was the Mississippi Governor’s mansion-not sure if it’s the current one or not, but it’s so pretty.
I started with the Chinese paper for this one and went from there.
No one can hear you 4" x 4 " collage card
Earlier Brian and I stopped at the church bazaar and bought a big box of mushrooms and a lovely quilted piece from a young lady-Cate, who is actually our neighbor. I told her I’d give her some publicity as she’s made many beautiful pieces and isn’t charging that much for them. I bought an octangular Thanksgiving piece for the middle of my round table for only $10. I will add the photo soon.
I am kicking around with knitting. I bought some pom-pom yarn for $2.50 at Michael’s and got one of their free direction leaflets. Well I couldn’t get it at all and decided to look at the wrapper on the yarn and it said to knit twice between the pom-poms. That worked! Earlier I picked up the needle the wrong way and off went the stitches. I had to undo about 5″ or more! What a pain.
And last but not least, Brian went earlier to pick up the nice firm sofa cushions-it’s like a new sofa! I plan to stuff the back cushions myself in the corners where they are a bit unstuffed-the Michael’s was out of stuffing! I’m glad I had this done-saving our backs. When my mom complained how flat the cushions were, I listened as she is such a thin little thing.

Hungry Groundhog eating apples, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is an oldie, but fit the theme. This ground hog is enjoying some Heirloom apples that have fallen (they are on the bitter side). The tree is now very leaned over and I bet will be falling down sooner or later. The former owners planted trees on the back bank and of course banks break down/wash away over time.

I had a nice birthday yesterday. Got treated to lunch by Sean at a brew house (I can’t drink because of medicine). Yummy nachos, but the sandwiches were lacking in volume.
Then Brian took me to a ‘new’ place-well the place Sean took me last year for lunch but is a steak house now. We had the steak and shrimp special-nicely presented. I brought the camera-not the battery-rats. The eclair and ice cream came with a dollop of whipped cream and a candle. Nice waiter too.
I got a Libre from Brian! It’s like a Kindle reader. It already had 100 books on it-mostly classics. He also got me some mother of pearl drop earrings and neat socks. Sean got me the first season of ‘Modern Family’, a red star for the top of the Christmas tree and a Wally World gift card. Nice family.

Mom before me!, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

How many people have photos of their moms when you were in her belly? I love this photo. I wonder what my grandmom is thinking? That’s the old farmhouse on State Road that still stands and was fixed up nicely by my mom’ neighbors. She lives up a 150 foot drive in the house that was built in 1964. I think I have a bod like my mom-mom, though her waist is smaller.

A great birthday ‘gift’ was Bri getting a pretty good bloodwork report. His cholesterol needs to be lowered a bit-like 30 points. Crossing fingers for mine.

Zodiac 4" x 4 " Collage card
It was so nice to walk around at Longwood Gardens that I got two cards made for today. A lady had sent me the vintage zodiac design and I love the night sky and had fun!
Then I decided to do a winter themed one. I thought these little children looked like they were watching it snow through a window. I used vintage mica flakes for snow on the windowsill and around the collage.

For my ‘big’ day, Sean will take me out to lunch and Brian for dinner. No calories on your birthday, correct?

Fall at Longwood Gardens

Fall at Longwood Gardens, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I got over to the gardens today. It wasn’t that sunny or that crowded, which was nice for the other shutterbugs and me catching the last of the mum festival. It was prettier than last year! I love the topiary shaped like the white swirl ice cream cones! And the one in the third row (second) is one mum plant with many grafts of other mums. It’s amazing to see. There are 50+ other photos on Flickr if you’d like to take a look.
Before I went to the gardens, I dropped off our red sofa cushions to get redone. The man said the foam was cheap. The sofa is a good make-Klassner, so that’s not right. Our recliner is a Lane and it’s not in great shape either. I’m sure it will help the sofa a lot.

New stuff

We had the microwave repair guy here and he said the magnetron went and it would be $300 to replace it. Like really? People ‘let’ them fix that when a new microwave is about the same price-crazy! I looked up the price of magnetrons and they run about $50-just think of the profit repair people make! I had to hand out $67 for him to tell me that. Bri tried the GE on ‘heat beverage’ and it gota little hot, but it won’t heat any other way. Sean and I hightailed it to a Sears store in Delaware where there is no sales tax. Good thing we live so close. I had a gift card from when we bought the washing machine in the summer. The washer was almost paid off too. Before we went, I checked the new issue of Consumer Reports and Samsung rated first. When we saw it we liked it. I haven’t seen many microwaves with a ‘melt/soften’ feature. And the price was right too. Marked down to $218 from about $270.

We can go pick it up Friday, but will wait until Saturday. And my guys will install it which I hope goes smoothly.
We went downstairs in Sears and I’ve been itching to get a good pair of walking shoes and saw Dr. Scholls were on sale, so I got them! I wanted Skechers, but they are pricier, but after reading a few reviews, I think they may be worth it. I’m not hard on sneaks, but I read where a few women said they had issues with the eyelet holes or them coming apart. Maybe they got a few bad pairs-people who write the reviews are usually the ones who have something to complain about. I put them on in the car and they are so comfy!
Hope to get the sofa cushions dropped off for new foam as we can’t stand them anymore as they are so flat. The loose back cushions need help too.
There are so many good sales in the mall! Wow, the stores are really marking down merchandise. I saw nice flannel shirts for Bri for about $15. I did get a couple more pairs of leggings as they were so cheap. I guess if you have the moola, you could really go to town!
Flashback-I recognized a woman in Boscov’s that I went to community college with-yeah I’m good that way. She was in the same major. I didn’t say anything to her, but how funny is it when you see people you haven’t seen in years? I saw her at a fair one time with her husband and kids. She looks like a bigger Amy Roloff from the TLC show.

Princess Kate…next year!

I’m happy to hear that Prince William ‘finally’ became engaged to his steady of what is it, 8 yrs. It happened last month, but they just told the public today. She is wearing Diana’s sapphire ring-hope it isn’t jinxed, but again, after all those years he should know! : )

I have that neat crown scrapbook paper and added the young lady under one. She’s really a fairy princess what-a-be. : )

I had a very restless night last night. I forgot to take a Tylenol before the fasting period began for the bloodwork. Big mistake. I had dragged about 14 grocery bags in earlier and was feeling that. I got myself to the doc’s office and was in and out in 15 minutes. Please keep me in your thoughts as it’s been a while. Bri had bloodwork last week and hasn’t heard, so he’ll probably get his results in the mail.

It was a good day for a nap-rainy and blah, so that’s what I did.

I got up refreshed to enjoy Barbra Streisand on Oprah. I love her estate in California:

Gorgeous home and pond in foreground

And Babs and Bob are together again for their 1st interview ever! Did you not love ‘The Way We Were’ too?

I am trying to do a gemstone card for each month. A lot of people think it’s only an amber colored stone, but it can be a lovely blue and a blue of many shades. This was made with a rubber stamp I purchased at a stramp show, but it was so big I couldn’t fit it all on a 4″ x 4″ card. I then embossed it and added some detail.
We have a lot of ‘stuff’ going on this week. Got the dish guy to redirect it to a new satellite today. Tomorrow I have bloodwork for the first time in almost 3 yrs. Wednesday the repair guy is going to check out the microwave and they fix it on the spot if he can fix it. Thursday I am dropping off the sofa cushions for new ‘innards’ (LOL) which aren’t cheap. I am doing the seat part and will see if that helps as they are flat as pancakes. I may have to go with a pricier foam. It’s cheaper than getting a new sofa! I had trouble tracking down someone who fixes them. I may do the back cushions sometime in the future. Friday, well you know what day that is-ahhh. : )
