This was back in Aug. 09 and I was just playing with the camera. I see my mom in the bathroom there. I think we were headed to dinner.
I’m a steam punk gardener
Wanted to share a cool Artist Trading card (ATC) I made as a challenge (which I ‘sort of” thought up as influenced by Melissa at Honey Girl Studio). Lucky for me I received a nice array of the steam punk stamps in an order yesterday from Paper Wishes (nice company)!
What is ‘steam punk’? It’s taking the influences of say Jules Verne and that era and applying it to that time-lots of gears, clocks, keys, that sort of thing. Did you notice the parrot had a key for a stand?
I think my vehicle may be ready, though they didn’t call yet and it’s almost 5 pm here. It looks like tomorrow will be the pick up time. Maybe I’ll treat Sean to Cee Cee’s pizza as I have a coupon. We are really going to have to tighten the old purse strings here. And I will be baking more and stuff like that. I’m not the one who brings the danish and stuff like that home anyway. ; )
Do you think it’s right for a certain office you go to a few times a year to send you one big bill all at once for procedures from 6 months ago to now? That’s what happened to us today. We don’t have $800 kicking around. They know that we have a certain deductible, so why not ask if we can send so much a month way back in September and on? For one thing they charge too much. I will be paying them over $100 on Thursday. Feel like giving them a piece of my mind! I will be on the look out for some kind of work because we have so many bills lately.
Temps go up and down
The temps are going from the 60s to 50s and when I looked at the temp this morning it was 24. I wonder why my sinuses bother me.
I do feel better, actually did yesterday. I do believe Sean passed on a bug to me. I made spaghetti sauce and pineapple bread pudding-‘after’ I watched the guy tow away my Mariner in the afternoon! Sean took it to the car wash in town (a little over a mile away) and it beeped loud and all the brake warning lights came on! He took his chance and drove it home and he said the brakes felt spongy. He had said on Monday he felt them grinding. I just had the vehicle inspected only two weeks ago and one of the things they do is check the brakes. I am hoping it’s minor. The car insurance will pay for the towing and if it needs repair, we got extended coverage and it mentions brake work. So crossing fingers.
Sean has off during the week and usually Saturday. We were going to go to a mall we hadn’t been to in years and take my mom since she lives close to it. We have a road called ‘the blue route’-I-76 near mom which by-passes many traffic lights and towns. It’s how we go to New Hope and places up north more. That’s also the same area that IKEA is in.
Wish us luck.
I did make a few collages yesterday too.

I have some really pretty rubber stamps (like this) I need to use more. I think the soulful sound of the Mourning dove and gardens go together.
~Update-now listen up and see if you understand this, ya’ll! The vehicle needs it tone ring replaced which is near the left wheel assembly. It’s a gear that spins and tells the vehicle if the ABS and brakes are working. The warranty lady said, no it’s not covered as it’s not part of the ABS system-it’s a gear. My brother and his pal at the station (where we had the Mariner towed) said otherwise. Brian went and got it and took it back to the dealership this afternoon(with Sean following) as he had told the manager what the warranty lady said and he said he would fix it for us! We’ve only had it not even 6 weeks. Hope we can get it tomorrow.
We decided to go to Chili’s for dinner as a treat. We always get the 2-$20 special at places like this.
A little blah feeling
Tuesday wasn’t a good day for me. Not sure if it was a tummy bug, hormonal, an allergy or a combo (!) but everything bothered me from my head to my tummy. Heard that half my one brother’s office was out with a bug. And I can’t forget that I don’t have an appendix anymore nor that I had pneumonia. I guess it’s one step forward, two back. I wanted to do a bunch of things yesterday too. I did go through some clothes and vacuum-that’s it. I sent Brian to the store in the evening and you know guys only get what’s on the list, unless they are adding stuff they want! LOL
Art items haven’t been touched either, though I have put a few stitches in my cross stitched items.
I do feel somewhat better today so maybe I will have some art to show later. : )
Just Passing Through
Just Passing Through 4″ x 4″ Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I had a lot of fun making this card. When I was tidying up, I ran across the bandana print on the bottom and remembered I had the kids in their cowpoke outfits. The map of Montana is the curtains, like they are on a stage.
The desk is assembled, but alas, I didn’t know I needed to buy the hardware kit too! We may have some of those toggle screws because by itself it weighs 40 pounds. I think Zoey’s hubby would be cringing at having to drill those kind of screws in the wall. I will use the two drawers for mainly ink pads and stampers. I think I will need to get a new file cabinet as the plastic one I have is awful! The drawers stick and I can’t get them closed most of the time.
I just went and got a free prep kit this afternoon (saved me $40), but my tests will be on the 16th now! Next week is crazy busy for me-the Phila. Flower show, the dentist, a family event plus a trip to my late Uncle Don’s house to pick some of his things out to keep. His daughter and her family (my one cousin hadn’t seen or spoken to my uncle for years) were over there cleaning out closets. His daughter said there are some trunks in the attic that may be stuff that was my grandfathers! It will be neat to see what’s in there. I have a bird painting and carved bird he gave me already. My cousin said most of his clothes were sent to Haiti. I ‘dislike’ doing this and I sure hope it doesn’t smell like pipe smoke in his house or I will lose it. The house will be sold ‘as is’. I think I would have gone to IKEA and had them redo the kitchen and maybe get some new things for the bathrooms, just to modernize it a bit.
My house smells like hyacinth right now as I bought some potpourri at the
Hallmark store this afternoon. It is smelling a bit strong now, but I know that stuff will fade out. Nice to have a spring like smell in the house.
Here’s the Lemon Almond Pound cake I made and it’s gone already!

I want to make some chocolate chip cookies next.
I watched the Oscars as I did see a few of the movies nominated-‘Toy Story 3’ and ‘The Social Network’. It’s neat to see a few 50 yr olds win-Melissa Leo and Colin Firth.
I’d love to attend a fancy event like that once in my life-lol
Bloom every day
Come on spring! I’m so ready for February to be over, which it will be tomorrow!
I’m still waiting on Brian putting together my desk (I could do it, but not sure about the bracket in the wall part). There is a lot of crafty stuff where it is suppose to go, but it won’t take that long to move it out of the way.
Brian was outside moving a huge Blue Spruce branch yesterday whose force broke off one of the arms off the metal ‘T’ from the clothes line pole. We are figuring that clothes line has been there for 50 yrs. It’s not a good place anymore as it gets too shady in that location. I’m sure it will come down. We have a swing set that is 21 yrs old that isn’t being used either! ; )
I hope I have some desk photos to share soon.
Photo Hunt-Mostly Black
My mom’s little dog Kelsey is ‘mostly black’ except for the white chin whiskers and a bit on his chest there.
Vacation escape-don’t you wish?
The way the wind is whipping up the coast here, I saw this paper and lady in an inner tube and had to make a collage to remind me of the nicer weather to come! It’s nasty out there! I believe the lady is from an old Finnish magazine that was sent to me. I do have an inner tube story-a company Brian worked for years ago had their annual picnic at the Brandywine Picnic Park on the banks of-the Brandywine River! That has it’s bad points (flooding). One of the fun things you can do is go tubing which we all did! Of course someone had to say to watch for water snakes, but other than keeping an eye peeled, I had one of the most relaxing ‘floats’ ever! LOL
I made my first baked item in a while, mostly from a box, but very yummy-a Lemon Nut Pound Cake. I did take a photo too.
We were thinking of going to a book sale tonight, but it’s so chilly and dark, so we will go tomorrow or Sunday.
My procedures have been changed because the one office doesn’t do ‘both’ things and I have to have them done in the hospital which are different days. So it will be March 9th instead of the 4th. Gives me a little break and I get the prep kit for free if I go down to the office to pick it up.
I’ll just be glad when all this stuff is over as I want to join the gym Sean is going to and get more serious about my weight. I do a few floor exercises and I think the stretching and all helps my joints. I want Brian to join to. It’s a 24/7 place and much cheaper than the ‘Y’.
Have a great weekend!
Sock Monkey holding Nick’s ornament
I mailed off a few packages yesterday, and my pals (in Penna.) received their gifts today already. I had put the wrong zip code on the package too.
I turned the little cross stitch piece into this ornament for their son who is 16 months old.
Here is the back:

I also made them a 4″x 4″ collage with a lighthouse theme that I adhered to a canvas, painted around the edge and added a ribbon. Those are tiny beads in the corner.

I’ve made a few collage cards too. My mom bought two huge (and pricey books of scrapbook paper from one of my favorite companies) and said I could have the duplicate of each page. I was happy she shared. The one had this gorgeous Easter basket:

I’m trying to get my paper stuff in order in case Brian gets the mojo to install my new desk piece.
Having some allergy issues, I swear I could predict the weather! I also seem to be bothered more by allergies in our family room-wall to wall carpet, hottest room, lots of plants, where the cat lounges on me, sit near the heat….etc. Bummer.
We are expecting lots of rain tomorrow, so I’ll continue with my paper sorting.
Job hunting
I had that cool guy stamp and wanted to use him. He’s holding a paper, so I thought of what Sean’s been doing over the last few Sundays-buying the paper to check out the classified. I got a piece of that section, added it to the card and gessoed it a bit. The background paper is a neat find from Lancaster and the Liberty Bell is from a book of stamps.
I made some more cards on Tuesday since I didn’t have my car and it was again too snowy to walk around the yard. I did spot a mama deer who is lame (front leg) with her little one near the Blue Spruce out back. I took her photo in the same spot last week. Me just looking out the back door window startled her and she left. There were about 4-5 around looking for food. They ate a great deal of my holly bushes this year! Rats!
I have some errands to run much later (it’s 12:30 am here). I want to get Carole’s win in the mail. The cupboards are a bit bare too.
Brian had a brake assembly issue with his car. I guess that will start to nickel and dime us. The driver’s window is stuck closed, his dashboard is half lit, he had to take out his glove compartment as the latch broke and he has a broken back up light cover. And it has about 120k miles on it. Time for a newer one!
