Photo Hunt-digital

Mom 1950, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I use to play more with Paint Shop Pro and especially like trying to fix up old photos-digitally. This is my mom when she was about 20. The photo was in bad shape. I could work on this a little more and maybe I will soon (neck and chin look too obvious).
I’m also sharing because Mother’s Day is on Sunday. Happy Mom’s Day Jeannie girl!

Crispy Fish Tacos

Standard

I made these last night, so good! I never ate fish tacos until a few years ago and now I try them when I see them on the menu. A guy I went to high school with is a chef and told me to use buttermilk-had to add a little white vinegar to regular milk to make my own. I got fish with batter like you get on sweet and sour shrimp/chicken-nice and light. The first few batches were a little light in color-should have let the Canola get a little hotter. The ‘sauce’ was good-mayo, sour cream, hot sauce, garlic and Cilantro. I used talapia, but you can use any white fish. Someone said halibut was good. Sean liked the crispy shell, but Brian and I liked the soft. Try it, you’ll like it! (I don’t serve food that is fried too often, so this was a treat).

Walking path at the park

Walking path, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I decided to take a walk here today. I made it around twice (ouchie knees) as the wind almost blew me away. I did take my little camera but didn’t see any Bluebirds this time. They were just finishing cutting the grass and I had the place practically by myself. Pretty there isn’t it? I did 1/4 mile.
I made a few more stops-gas (never have filled the tank up in the Mariner since I got it); Goodwill to get rid of a few things and Big Lots. I wanted to go to another nursery but there wasn’t any place to park. I got home from Big Lots and my house keys were gone! I had to go all the way to Sean’s work and get his keys. I was hoping (praying to St. Anthony) that they would be inside the house, but I don’t see them anywhere. Thinking the cat pushed them someplace out of sight as I swear I don’t remember seeing them since yesterday. I called three places and the park lady is calling the police to see if anyone turns them in . I just hope they weren’t in the driveway and someone got them. Brian is at his dad’s tonight, so he may have a set for me. Crossing fingers.
May go to a plant sale at Brandywine River Museum tomorrow or Sunday. They have unusual plants, but a bit pricey.
Have a great Mother’s Day my fellow moms!

Longwood Gardens Collage Card

Standard

Longwood Gardens Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I’m still way behind with these, but I found a few more ‘stack’ scrap paper books at Home Goods last night. Along with a gorgeous orange/salmon glass gazing ball-Happy Mom’ day to me!-lol.
So as you can see I used part of a ticket stub from Longwood Gardens-it was Sean’s one time. I have a pass-so mine looks like a credit card-but I now have to show my license. Guess too many people were loaning their cards out? I used some pink foil wrappers for flowers. The last two collages had new bird themed backgrounds.
Yesterday Sean and I took my mom out to a Chinese restaurant and Home Goods for an early Mother’s Day gift. We hit a produce place that sells plants and I got a large Stargazer lily as a gift for me-$5!!! They had tons of other plants like jasmine and lavendar-I’ll go back again.
Something was irking me all day, couldn’t put my finger on it-turns out Brian gave himself 6(!) cavities by munching on hard candy for months and months. It has to be from that. I remember scolding him a number of times. That’s going to cost a bit of $$. It’s always something.
I need to get ingredients for crispy fish tacos in honor of Cinco de Mayo. I am about 3% Spanish-ha! I love fish tacos, especially love the ones from California Tortilla.

Springtime Flowers

Burgundy Columbine, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I’ve been really busy for a few days outside since we’ve had nice weather. I wore a tank top and shorts today it was so warm. I’m happy to see the flowers, but wish they weren’t coming up around that creepy ‘Creepy Charlie’ and leaf debris. I have 5 crates of yard decorations and emptied 3 of them! I didn’t show the Asian bed as it’s not too colorful yet, but I have the pagodas all set up there.
These Columbine are in the mainly Iris garden and I have white Irises blooming too:

Brian just planted a new Iris for me tonight-apricot color.
Also have a garden named for my friend Gret who loves nature and squirrels:

Nicotiana with Squirrels
And the pond area is up and running and also cleaned out:

There are two new plants here, a pink and purplish Wallflower and a red Salvia (not shown here, but planted near the gazing ball).
So I’m making a dent in the work, but lots to do!
Last but not least, the little strawberry house I found at the flea market set in the gnome garden:

Love Always

Love Always Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is a collage card made up mostly from things in my scrapbox. I actually have two of those-the big one and the smaller one. Both filled to the gills. I did add the glittery eggs along the bottom.
I hope to get outside again tomorrow, but it’s going to be pushing 80 or higher. I have winter clothes to change out to summer. Have to see how I feel as my elbows are so sore from pulling weeds and digging.

Just curious if you’d add these to your garden decor? I thought they were a bit cosmic and snake looking. Interesting colors!
I got outside and weeded around the pond and out front where I planted burgundy Pansies, pale pink Nicotiana and yellow and purple Johnny Jump Ups (you can see these plants in the wagon photo below). My Bleeding Hearts and a ground cover (what’s it’s name?) look very lush this year. 2 down and about 6 to go plus around the house. I have to kill some faux Snow on the Mountain plant that took over my entire side bed. I use the weed wacker, but you have to get the roots. More work for me!

Dianne loves Coleus…and shopping for plants

Brian was kind enough to take me on a little excursion up in lower Lancaster County plant farm. Such a pretty area! We cross from our county Chester to Lancaster over the Octoraro Reservoir.
Octoraro Reservoir
It was in the 60s, but not really sunny. We had a good time looking in the greenhouses and looking at about half of the perennials-I think there were 20 rows of them! I only bought a couple as I want to do a little more research on the ones I really want. It’s nice they offer two sizes- a $2.49 pot and the bigger one to see if you like it I guess. I did buy one apricot color iris and a few other perennials.
Some of my plant haul
We then went down the road a bit to a flea market.
Nottingham Flea Market
The place is poorly lit and the prices were a bit high. I found a Snowbabies music box-it sure looks like one and I got this strawberry ceramic ‘house’ that went right in the gnome and fairy garden-she gave them to us for $5. The music box was really dirty and I had to dunk the top in soapy water and sand off the old glitter. The one baby came off and he got a bath. It looks like new again and plays ‘Twinkle, Twinkle..little star’.

We came home and grilled up steak, chicken and hot dogs, some for other meals. I made homemade mac and cheese with chives and a variety of cheeses. We had a nice day and it was especially meaningful when we heard that Bin Laden was deceased. It’s about time!
