Almost a book-tastrophy

Standard

Oh my! I’m not kidding. For a few weeks Bri and I have been hearing the slightest creak, like the house settling. We couldn’t figure out what it was. Today I found out! I came in the family room to grab my purse as I was on the way to the post office and to check out a new natural food market and did I get a surprise!

Bookcase

One of the shelves is removed and needs its support rod. Notice the shelf under the space is also slightly slanted to the right.

One of our 8 foot tall bookcases had shelves that were all on a slant slightly to the right! They are so full, I guess the shelves would have stayed slanted-maybe. So before I could step out the door, I unloaded the top two dusty ones. Seems the top shelf was missing one of its four little metal rods that holds it in place. All the weight from the books was causing the holes of the rods to break away, the noises we were hearing. I have to see if I have another rod thing, maybe I can use a leftover one from the kitchen. I had to start to move up the shelves and hammered the little rods in the holes to be on the safe side. I swear when you replace books on shelves, they never look as good. I have some rearranging to do and some books will be finding new homes or be given away.

The health food market was too expensive. I got some tea and a few snack things for Sean.

I have some nature/flower photos featuring red that I will share as soon as I clean up the book mess.

So this is Autumn?

It’s close to 90 out today! I just turned on the air as I was trying to conserve energy. I haven’t been doing much except to play with Paint Shop Pro (sometimes digitalizing things is so much easier), but I did a page in my collage book last night. The book should have spiral rings as it’s getting so hard to work on. I also got 3 new rubber stamps in the mail today and want to play with them. I’m a little blah anyway.

Not too much new. Sean got a package from my friend Karin in Chicago (the lady whose wedding we went to in NYC) and I’m pretty sure it is cookies. I am so jealous as she is a chef in training-well she’ll be finished in December!  I thought that was so sweet of her as I know she is super busy.

I started stitching the squash contest winner’s prize. I have to alter a chart, but I won’t go into that. I also started a gift which needs to be ready soon. The ’57 Thunderbird is nearing completion. I am tired of it, but it looks awesome.

Have you been watching any of the new shows? I caught ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Journeyman’. Of course the last show is the only ‘new’ one above and it was a bit like one of my nightmares, trying to make sense of it. I’ll have to watch more to understand it better. And tonight, Tim Daly is in ‘Private Practice’, that spin-off from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.  Woo hoo!

Tuesday Wild Goose Chase

I’m seriously thinking about finding a new doctor now. Bri and I went to get our triglycerides and cholesterol checked this morning (fasted). The lab at the doctor’s office wouldn’t do our bloodwork because our insurance (new this past January) wouldn’t let them draw the blood. That being said, we have to make a doctor’s appt for both of us just to get the script to take to the other lab! The weird thing is that both of the main doctors were walking around while the lady was giving us grief and I knew they heard what was going on. They could have said, oh here’s the script for the lab since we both were there at that very minute, but no, (we’ve been going there at least 20 years). They want their piece of the pie. Bummer.
So I tossed and turned all night. I’m going to research local doctors and not make appts right away. I did start on the refined fish oil that a friend had suggested, so maybe I’ll wait to see if that helps my triglycerides like it helped lower Brian’s. Plus the sweet little physician’s assistant left who I would see all the time. She was good too. She had her second child in April and she either left to be a full-time mommy or got another job. One time she went through my entire file and rearranged it.

Not sure what I’ll do today. There’s a new ‘fresh foods’ type of Trader’s Joe about 10 minutes away. I may go there. We are getting a blast of hot weather for a few days. My mom wanted to do something, maybe tomorrow, but it better be in an air conditioned place.

I did about 9 laps around the house for exercise-it’s something! Unfortunately it made my legs achy during the night. I used Icy Hot but couldn’t take Tylenol because of the fasting.

Cosmo the cat’s ears are much better. The drops are a pain to put in, but his little kitty ears looks squeaky clean. So maybe he did have a yeast problem.

Here’s to a better rest of the day!

Congrats to MarJean!

The odds were good, but she hit the nail on the head. She was correct when I said that I was ‘lucky’ because on the 31st of August I did have 31 yellow squash. If you added up all the ‘picks’ from then on you get 40! Yippee!! The only problem, our winner left no way to contact her. So MarJean, I will give you a few days to reply to get your prize. Thanks! I wish we had had more contestants, but I appreciate those who played along. Bri was even playing near the end there.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Mom (Jeanne) and I are very close. I hope this turns out to be a lovely day for her. I spent at least 1.5 hours wrapping her gifts and they look pretty in their fuchsias, pinks and raspberry papers.

And the cupcakes I made and decorated:

My brother is having us all at his place for dinner. There is also a flea market doing on-hmmm…maybe we can hit that first! ; )

We had a nice evening as you can see. Colleen and Ken outdid themselves (mostly C) with the grub-steak, shrimp, chicken and the works! Ken did his good deed of the day by going out to see Uncle Don.

We played movie trivia which I won twice-yahoo! : ) And we played the DVD of Deal or No Deal and we won money twice, but the first time we could have had $400k and walked away with $115k! ; )

Engaged

I’m killing two birds with one stone here. That’s our engagement photo from the local paper that I made into an Art Trading Card on paper-one of my first too! So it’s almost our 25th engagement anniversary which will be on my birthday in November. Notice my Princess Diana haircut and top of that era.
