A Day in Bucks County, PA

A Day in Bucks County, PA
The three of us took a daytrip up to Bucks County, PA on Sunday to celebrate Sean’s birthday a wee bit early(it’s really the 24th). We thought he may have to work, but alas, he called the lady that ‘hired’ him from the grocery store and now she said they were in a ‘hiring freeze’. Very sad indeed. He is first on the list-so he hopes this is true info. The restaurant in Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, has the best Sunday brunch. Brian and I stumbled upon it 10 yrs ago when we went up in the same area to celebrate my 40th. From breakfast treats to craved meats and treats, everything is prepared (I think this is right) by culinary students. The village had a fun array of scarecrows/effigies on display from Scarecrow ‘crows’ to Michael Jackson. More are in my Flickr photo stream. It was a chilly and blustery day. My feet gave out early as I’m not use to wearing heels. I should have wore my sneakers. Sean and I plan to try and catch some of the autumn foliage in Lancaster one of these days. The leaves in Bucks were just changing a little and everything was wet looking.

I am using the larger of the two collages and I got cut out of the one with Brian. The building is the Bucks County Playhouse right on the Delaware River in New Hope, PA. This is where many of a celebrity did summer stock, even Tim Daly when he was a boy.

Show and Tell

My hometown had a giant yard sale last weekend and we went down on Sunday. We drove around looking for houses that had a lot for sale and stopped at a house that Brian and I had been in over 20 years ago when it was for sale. It needed tons of work back then, so we passed. I did mention to the people there that we had been in it and the lady said her brother-in-law (standing there) had fixed it up and was still working on it. He was a young guy, so I’m thinking someone had bought it after we had looked at it and then they bought it. The house didn’t look that different on the outside, so I hope the inside was nice. It had been crammed with stuff way back then.
Anyway, they had some neat things, some of which were tied up in a bag for a few dollars. I wanted the little red plastic person with the jointed body, but the other things are pretty neat too-like the ‘3D’ glasses with both lens that are the same color of fuchsia, the little mirrors (one with a real mirror) and the other cute things-I’d say from the 60s at least.

I’m still deciding on the cross stitch meeting. Part of me wants to go and meet Rachel and part of me says-well, do you really want to stitch in front of other people? I’ve only stitched in front of my family and the tv. It’s in a converted barn. And who is to say that they all will be stitching all that time. I know when women get together it’s mostly talk. I should go this one time and decide from that. I know, just go will you!

There are so many neat ways to use lights and of course you need ELECTRIC to run them all. This display of trees went from about 4-5 different colors-purple, green, blue….can you just imagine having that in your own yard? This was the 2009 Philly Flower Show-no tripod, but I like these.

Long weekend

Standard

Not much to post about-had Brian home for the holiday weekend. He dug up the part of the veggie patch where I want to add some salad stuff for the fall. Sean had his interview for the internship (it pays) on Friday and had to drive down to Delaware*City. He’ll hopefully get thumbs up today. He will be treating invasive species (plants) like poison ivy at the park in another area of Delaware.
I’ve been doing a little shopping here and there finding some good buys on Martha*Stewart things at Big*Lots. I actually went to two different stores as we went down to Dover, DE on Monday just to do something different. My favorite bookstore- Atlantic warehouse was having a buy 2 get 1 free-must have saved $30 or more! I bought about 3-4 things for my mom’s birthday coming up in a few weeks. We ate at Olive*Garden and I went in a few craft stores. You need a few days to go in all the stores down there. Also went into the town of Dover to find Wesley College, a small, but nice school amongst Dutch Colonels and other lovely homes. The public flowerbeds are kept so nice. There was a bed of burgundy dinner plate hibiscus-gorgeous, with red, white and purple petunias.
A few nights ago, I was doing one of those Facebook ‘5 things’ and they asked my nationalities. I put down Swedish, but my family always thought we were Danish (and may be). My cousin was going to open a furniture store (and may have already) and went over to Denmark. She looked in the phone book in Denmark and there were only a few Hasselbergs. She went to Sweden and that’s where they all were. She started a business which is still going strong and run by many of her children. I found the fan page for Dane*Decor on FB and scrolled down and found my cousin Drew there! He had contacted me about a blog entry a few years ago and so had his brother Jesse. I scrolled down to find a memorial group for Jesse. He had passed away from a heart attack last year to the day-he must have been only in his 50s. I was so upset to read this. So now Drew and I are friends on FB. Cool, huh?
Please keep my mom in your thoughts as she is getting her eyes photographed and checked to see if the injections she had over the last few months has slowed down the macular degeneration. She’s really scared. I’ll let you know.

Eye of the water, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is a water attraction at Longwood Gardens called the Eye of Water. As you can see, the water ‘ripples’ out of the iris part and flows over the blue pupil part. This photo is in mostly the shade. People toss coins on it too.
I have to chuckle as the sign says -‘rippleless’ when you can clearly see ripples. Maybe because it’s 41 yrs old. : )

We had a few ‘interesting’ days away-10 mile back-up Monday for ‘nothing’ except a part of the Garden State Expressway had one line and one truck blocking a lane. It took 1.5 hours to go 10 miles-the worst traffic jam ever.

But we got to see sights like this:

The Atlantic City Convention center where the Miss America pageant use to be held and this today:

A pod of dolphins at the Cape May Point beach in New Jersey-about 10 or so were following the boat.
Somewhat closer up and circled-

Desserts from TGIF, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I don’t have too many photos of spoons, etc., but I found this one of some desserts taken at TGIF restaurant last year with Sean’s cellphone. And the brownie and cheesecake were delicious!

Another camera phone photo taken Friday-24th of July of a pluming house fire in Chadds Ford. I was sure that’s where it was and the local news said it was in a house under construction. A bystander said it was like ‘house bonfire’. We had just had a terrible T&L storm go through-one of the worst this year.
