A little weary
I think I mentioned that we could get Nor*ton antivirus for free from Com*cast. (I don’t want them to get mad). It took an hour to take the old software off the PC, not as long on Sean’s laptop. What took forever was doing a total scan of both computers-about 5+ hours each! Now what was this new software doing that our old one wasn’t? Makes you wonder! Sean had over 1 million MBs freed up on his laptop! I am happy to report that both computers are running well, yes even the 8 year old one with Windows XP! Crossing fingers.
My computer seems to be fine now thanks to it getting reformatted. I figure we saved $85+ not having to download the old program again for next year, so reformatting mine was much cheaper if you look at it that way. He let it slip about it being free and said he could download them on these computers-no thanks, I handled it!
I was not really up to doing yardwork today. I am having issues again-I’m now sorry I went through that procedure in March, but I tried it as the doctor thought it would help. I am a bit better, but so irregular in that way. I was pulling some weeds out of the sidewalk (we have bricks that Brian installed many years ago). I also pulled weeds across from my front door.
My life today was weeding out old files and pesky weeds. : ) I also cleaned out some links in my blogroll that weren’t there anymore or not updating. I plan to add more in the future. WordPress has an audio feature I may try later so you can hear my voice. : )
Ruby Daylily
I only have about 4 different Daylilies left in this area. After they stop blooming there are only a few things of interest in this massive bed-some ornamental grass, a few plants I added on the perimeter and a big pot of annuals.
Just Saturday night I added about a dozen nasturtium seeds in a few places in other gardens. The ones I planted earlier aren’t doing that great. It’s interesting to see what flowers like this kind of weather. The roses loved it and are just getting black spot from too much humidity.
Speaking of humidity, you could cut the air with a knife. You go outside for 5 minutes and your skin is glistening with sweat. I don’t sweat a lot, but I sure have this summer! It runs straight down the back of my head. I have taken to wearing little pig tails and a headband.
Still gathering stuff from the basement. I still think the dust is getting to me. I forget even though I have my nose covered, my eyes aren’t (I don’t wear my glasses much around the house) and the dust gets on my clothes.
We just got new hall runners from K*mart. They are by Jaclyn Smith and are brown and blue with brown swirls. I haven’t had new rugs there for many years.
I’m also doing some art projects in between.
For Carole-Our Sweet Pea
Since we both have Fairy Gardens, I was thinking about you when I mulched and took photos tonight. Plus with your friend being so sick, I thought you needed a smile. Hope I succeeded.
Thriving tomato patch
I’m happy to report that we have tons of tomatoes on the vines this year! They are mostly Beefsteak. We moved them to the opposite side of the garden. Today, yours truly was tying them up and quite surprised by how many I saw. Last year we happen to get tomatoes that had the blight and I think by this time we had to tear them all out as the fruit and plants rotted. Last Fall I planted some lettuce and things in their place, didn’t get a lot, but it was something new to try. We have a sea of Zucchini, Green Beans and Cucumbers there now. We’ve only gotten about 4 Cucumbers and 1 little Zucchini. I had a Zucchini/Bacon Frittata for dinner tonight-yummy!
Sweetness in the heat
My Starglazer lily finally opened up over the last few days. I was wondering if it could stand the heat as it’s in a pot, but it looks good, only a few buds wilted. And you know the smell of this flower is amazing too. I’d love to have an entire field of them to frolic in!
We are expecting glorious, soaking rain on Saturday. Hooray! I hope it does rain. It rained about 5 miles from here where Sean works today and we got nothing.
Have a great weekend!
Bounties of the herb garden
I was thrilled to pick a few veggies today-a Purple Beauty eggplant and a Gretel eggplant. I do put a few veggies in my herb bed. I don’t see more peppers, but there are at least 3 more eggplants. The herbs are Italian parsley (for a parsley and lemon pork chop I am making) and thyme.
We may get some thunderstorms-it’s still very dry. We had a few minute sprinkling a bit ago.
Daylilies 2010
Very prolific this year-love the colors, fringes, stamens, etc.!
Brian’s dad is still in the hospital. He has a heart valve problem that is affecting his kidneys it seems. He is having a test tomorrow to see why he is having the other bathroom issues. Tonight Dad C. sounded a bit groggy. He thought he had slept for 11 hours and it was Monday. I’ll keep you posted.
Hot. hot, hot here! We really need the rain! Some gardens are struggling. If it’s not the lack of rain, it’s the wildlife causing havoc. I went out tonight to find all my gourmet lettuce (just ready to pick) and most of the sunflowers and zinnias nibbled on. I’m thinking it’s deer. All the houses springing up around here has caused them to check out people’s yards. I have had this issue in the past. I may need to put up a fence now.
Pond Garden 2010
First of all, yes, this in on a slight incline. : )
This is finally weeded and edged so it is now worthy of sharing a photo of it. The Japanese irises were just ‘so-so’ this year. The foliage they leave behind looks nice next to the pond. The Red Hot Pokers on the other hand are gorgeous!

I have them in about 3 places around the yard. My mom said she’d like me to dig some up for her. They are actually the orange topped plants. The large bunch of plants in the foreground are Shasta Daisies. They have a bit of a disease on them like last year. I have some next to the overgrown (never trimmed) butterfly bush there on the left. There are some Pinwheel Zinnias and Red Salvia around the gazing ball and also some potted Lantana

and another with white Salvia and a peachy Diascia.

I have a pot of two tone white and wine colored petunias hanging up

and some yellow calibrachoas there too.
The double light is solar powered and flashes different colors at night-very cool. The pond lights all got new batteries but aren’t working well. I have one frog resident that I see. : )
The ‘C’ garden
This use to be the Circle garden, but Bri kept hitting a few box hedges on the right with the mower and they met their demise. It now looks like a ‘C’ which is the first letter in our last name! I realized my box hedges are a few different kinds, but just this year. It doesn’t bother me a whole lot, but the 3-4 different ones are bigger and needed more shaping. This is the garden where my irises, dinner plate hibiscus (the deer like to munch them), some Gladiolus and Black-eyed Susans are planted. I added a Julia Child yellow rose bush (gift from Brian), a gorgeous orange Wall Flower,
a pink Columbine and a few others. I think it needs mulch-I love and hate the stuff, but it sure gives the gardens a finished look, but my poor back is already bad this year.
Update-that’s a pot of Hens an Chickens on the white stand
and a shallow bowl with colored glass too. Where the bowl is use to be where we had one of the monstrous satellite dishes.
