Few legends are born that you get to see in person. Sir Paul McCartney was part of a group that changed music on so many levels. He was part of a song writing duo that produced hit after hit. They arrived on the scene just when we needed them. I was 4 going on 5 in 1964 when the band played Shea Stadium in New York. Within a year or so, my older brother was playing their hits. When I turned 13, I absolutely loved the lp ‘Band on the Run’ and Paul! So imagine me at 50 and my husband a few years older getting to see a legend this close?
I was misty-eyed when he sang ‘Jet’-why this song, it was near the beginning of the concert. Sir Paul is a young 68 and his fellow guitarists are 55 and 51!
I thought they were in their 30s they were rocking so well! Hearing so many hits by both The Beatles and Wings (and solo I guess) was a dream come true.
So this concert was definitely meant for us to attend. The place was packed-thousands of people-and I look to my left in a section over, and there is my friend and maid of honor standing there! I hadn’t seen her in years, though we talked on the phone a few months ago. And she isn’t a computer person, so she didn’t know we were going to the concert. During a break in the second encore (when Sir Paul signed a lady’s back as she was a breast cancer survivor and you know his first wife Linda wasn’t) we went over to see my friend Linda. She was so surprised! We took this photo before we went to see her as I was afraid I’d miss a chance to talk with her.
The couple next to her had left, so we stood next to her for the remainder of the show and she got a few hugs and we got to see the big screen we couldn’t see where we were sitting. I took some videos and spliced them together and will burn a copy for Linda and share here too.
The most exciting part of the concert-the piro-techs for the song ‘Live and Let Die’. If you know the song, there is a very loud part-fire shot out of the front of the stage in about 4 cyclinders! It was awesome! You could feel the heat from our seats! And the fire came out twice.
He did lots of tributes-to his first wife Linda, John Lennon and George Harrison-he played a ukelele for George-Something in the Way She Moves.
The concert lasted almost 3 hours! No intermisson! Over 25 songs and two encores!!! I thank Sir Paul for waving the Pennsylvania flag, but not for people handing out brochures about how badly chickens are treated before the show-ugh.
We had to wait a bit to get out of the parking lot, but when we did, we saw a white stretch limo-wonder who was in it?
We were a bit ‘behind’ the scenes, but I’d rather be 75 feet away to grab a photo like this then way in the back of the place where they had to look at the big screen. We couldn’t see the big screen where we were, just a few smaller ones, but who wanted to look at them anyway?
Bri found this video that showed our section of the audience. We are marked with an orange arrow (we are both in black t-shirts) and my friend was behind the guy in the blue shirt a little over on the right. Cool!
The other night Brian was listening to CDs. That always helps to lighten his mood and he acts like his old self as he is relaxing and not worrying about anything. 9 out of 10 times he’ll put on some ‘Wings’ for me which he did that night. I then remembered that Sir Paul will be in Philly sometime in the future. I went online and it’s the 14th of this month. I asked if we could go and Brian said ‘YES’! Woo hoo! The good tickets are all gone, and we really couldn’t afford them anyway. The ones I got are extreme stage right, but not really high up. And if there are big screens, that will be neat too. And who is to say we won’t take a little walk to see him closer? I was just at the venue with my friend to see James Taylor and Carole King. The worse part will be the parking, but there is no Phillies game that night, so it should be better than the last time I was there.
Brian’s gone to most concerts over the years to see performers I like. The last time he went to one he really ‘got into’ was Hall & Oates in the early 80s (I love H&O too). I’m going to bring my camera in my purse again.
Talk about crossing something off your bucket list. Can’t wait! I had a hard time getting to sleep last night.
PS-My older brother Dave is a huge Beatles fan and has the same bass Paul is holding above.
This was a difficult hunt. I was looking through my sets and came upon the ‘free’ day at the Brandywine River Museum back in January 2009 in honor of the passing of Andrew Wyeth. Shown are the interesting college hoods that he received-21 in all-for honorary degrees in Fine Arts. Pretty amazing, don’t you think?
Brian and I also got to see ‘Christina’s World’ as it was on loan from the Met in NYC. We weren’t allowed to take photos of that.
I believe there is another free day coming up at the Museum on July 12th in honor of Andrew’s birthday. : )
Another neat thing is to have Victoria Wyeth, Andrew’s granddaughter give you a guided tour at the museum, which she does several days a week.
I was watching this year’s music awards and enjoyed many of the performances like the duo between Sir Elton John and Lady Gaga; Greenday and other singers doing ’21 Gun’ and Pink doing her ‘swinger and singer’ act on a twirling silk scarf that went toward the ceiling and then sprayed water on her. I had to fish around for my 3D glasses (saved from a game Sean had) but didn’t get to see much of the Michael Jackson tribute. His eldest two children Prince and Paris very eloquently accepted the award in his name.
I was very sad to learn that Kenny Rankin, one of my favorite singers had passed away last June at the age of 69 from lung cancer. His voice fit into so many genres-pop, jazz, folk. I had many of his records.

Also Dan Seals passed last year. Remember England Dan and John Ford Coley? He’s also Jim Seals younger brother. Their big hit was ‘I Really want to See You Tonight’.
Three singers in the last 12 yrs I have admired have passed: John Denver, Dan Fogelberg and now Kenny. I got to see John and Dan in concert. Kenny and Dan had cancer, John died in a solo plane accident.

Sean is getting use to Wally World. It’s hard being on his feet a lot, but he seems to work two days and is off two. They have him working 30 odd hours, is that part time? If he is called by the Census bureau to work, he’d have to work something out with Wally World as it’s just for a few months.

I am so dry today and it lead to a coughing attack. My sinuses started draining and it was hairy for a few minutes. I swear I have food allergies too. We had some of that rice (Dirty Rice) that you just heat up in it’s own package. I’m wondering what was in that too. Sometimes it’s a pain to cook everything from scratch, but if something is loaded with MSG, it’s going to bother me.

Congrats to my friend Rachel and her hubby Mike on the arrival of their son Connor last night, just before 11 pm. He came on his due date and is home already. Rachel’s blog is Willing Hands on my blog roll. She has photos of his nursery. I have some goodies to mail off to her (she only lives in Abington, PA and I have met her once). Better get busy!
So I was thinking what else I could do beside clean-lol-well at least do something constructive. Things are still not set up the way I want them and I seem to be missing a box of knick knacks which I’ll probably find in July! : )
I have had a crick in my neck or is it the bottom of my head, on the right. It’s probably a pinched nerve, nothing new-an ache a day I call it! It was my right shoulder blade area yesterday.
I tossed in a pot some stew meat, carrots, Yukon potatoes, onions, celery, a turnip and a few cut Brussel sprouts (!) to make this:
My ‘secret ingredient’ is a small can of V8 juice as stew meat isn’t known to be the most tender meat. It really helps. And so does cooking it for at least 3-4 hours.
I also decided that what I would do to tidy a bit is to clip Rachael*Ray magazines. They are great magazines, but between hers and the other few I get, I needed to do some clipping. This is what I did:
I’ve only clipped two magazines so far. I cut out the recipe and wrote the name of the recipe on the front of a file folder. If I try it and like it, I can either write a comment about it right on the folder or start up a notebook with the tried ones. Now I can look at a glance at what looks good and find the recipe easily. I could go further and separate them by appetizer, main dish, pasta, beverage too. One folder probably won’t be enough. I am also writing hints on the bottom corner-use coarse salt in a paste to clean cast iron skillets or the best chicken noodle soup is Camp*bells. There is also a pull out 7 day planner that I just kept intact.
I have my ‘lost recipe’ cookbook open to try some cheddar cheese biscuits, so I think they will go well with the stew. I’ll make them shortly.

Mrs. Jean Biden’s funeral was a stone’s throw from here today. I heard if you got in, they took away your purse, etc. for security reasons. President and Mrs. Obama attended as did Prez. Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.
The noon news had a live feed in the church and it showed V.P. Biden wiping his eyes. He had his mom a long time.

Sean’s at Wally World interviewing for a PT job. He is also going to take a test on Friday for census work which pays really well. So hopefully something will happen for him soon.

Tug use to live in my hometown and was signing autographs a few miles from our house. I dragged my grandmom to go with me.
Too bad the Emmys were just on a few weeks ago, as Tim Daly just gave one of the best performances of his life on the season opener of ‘Private Practice’. I won’t go into details, but lots of emotions around his girlfriend on the show Violet, who had her baby cut out of her at the end of last season. I know, terrible, but it does happen in real life. Watch it if you can.

Our Phillies won their 3rd consecutive East division championship last night! Awesome!
My mom likes to wonder around the local thrift shops. Sometimes she ‘hits’ on a great find for me-like this:
An entire packet of DMC embroidery floss! (it’s missing some colors, but I’m not complaining). She wasn’t sure if it was DMC or not-she was going by the name of the holder thingie. I looked at it and thought how was I going to match this all up with DMC? Tonight I took a closer look and the previous owner had them all separated and I know the numbers well enough to know they ALL were indeed DMC. I even took out 738-saved me a trip to the store.

It was so nice today that I planted 5-7′ rows of fall crops. I’ve never done that before, so hoping I didn’t wait too long. I planted beets, arugula, spinach, radishes and lettuce. I’m waiting on the garlic bulbs to be shipped soon-they will go in a raised bed.

RIP Patrick Swayze. What a journey he was on these last few years. I feel especially bad as my step cousin was just diagnosed with the same kind of cancer. I adored Patrick in ‘Ghost’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’. I even like his one hit song-from ‘Dirty Dancing’-‘She’s Like The Wind’. His skit on ‘Saturday Night Live’ with Chris Farley was a classic-when they both were trying out to be Chippendale dancers. He will be missed.

Off to get my hair done tomorrow. I’m pushing for a lighter shade as my roots are horrible against the brown now. On Sunday we were down in my hometown to a town event (where I am going again tomorrow-vendors and food on State Street and yard sales around the town. I got some cute things I’ll share at the end of the week.
And Zoey-the mushroom cookie was delicious-it was a thick butter cookie that I had to split 3 ways! s like
