Just a little tease

Standard

It’s been a long day. We didn’t get moving until 1 to get my mom and grab the 2:17 train to the city. I know, it’s a late start. Daylight savings messed with our sleep a bit. The flower show was on until 6 anyway. I think if the four of us go on a Sunday again, we should eat a big lunch and then go. We ate a big breakfast, grabbed a pretzel and nachos at the adjoining mall as a snack and then walked the walk, though mom was in a rented wheelchair. We always manage to miss something. I heard a woman say she loved the bayou with the steam. Well, we didn’t see that, yet Brian saw a photo of the exhibit on flickr. I shouldn’t complain as I took over 100 photos and did a video too! I haven’t uploaded or edited the video yet, but will tomorrow. However, here are some of my favorite people and some broad in beat up pink sneakers. : )

On the rails
It was nice to have my guys along. Here’s the inside of the train on the 35 minute trip to the city. It takes us 45-55 minutes just to get to mom’s house first.
Sean and Mom

The guys took turns pushing mom around and helping her take photos. At the end, she ditched the wheelchair and walked around to see if she got to see everything!

The guys under an arch

Did I mention the theme was New Orleans?

Me at the flower show

I don’t wear sneaks a lot, but I had to today with all the walking we did. I know my ankle boots would look so much better, but it was comfort over looks here! I saw a young woman go in the show in about 3″ spike heels-she’s crazy! I am at least wearing my new glasses. This exhibit had lights pointing down (see the foot marks) so you could stand under the exhibit. Bri didn’t get he was suppose to take a shot of what was over my head along with me! But I am standing in the wrong direction too!

And for Zoey, our friendly blogger tablescaper:

Pink and Orange

This was a hot pink mylar like rug!

and this too:

Orchids and lights

Plastic or paper lights and tons of orchids. The other tablescape will be on my slideshow that I’ll put together later.

We went to Carrabbas Italian restaurant when we got back to mom’s area and enjoyed a nice dinner there. I guess I’m glad I went. I just love using that camera so much, but I like spending time with my family the best!

Not quite the calm after the storm

Rainbow!
Please notice the face of ‘God’ in the clouds. : )
This is what Brian captured around 3:30 this afternoon after several torrential downpours. Now the wind is fierce. So fierce it knocked out the power at church about 15 minutes into the service. Talk about eerie! It’s interesting listening to all the different singing voices when there is no musical accompaniment!
We ran down to the Five Guys burgers and noticed the temperature had dropped. Man, those are great burgers and fries! Mom called to say she lost power about the same time as the church did. Weird.
I am finishing up the zebras quilt square, well they are finished, but I have the grass and letters to do.
Here’s a few ATCs I made out of junk mail. It’s amazing how you can be inspired by what you are about to throw away!

We mixed up our Sunday a bit and went to church today instead of last night. If I went one more Saturday night, I would have screamed! Really, it gets old. We headed down to a little coffee shop in Delaware for a sandwich afterwards and came home. I suggested Bri trim back the two sadly overgrown pear trees we have, but it may be too late for them. Fruit trees, especially the smaller ones, do take some care. They shouldn’t be over a certain height (I’m thinking 7 feet) and you have to trim out all the sucker branches. Plus you should spray them when they bud. We never did any of that. We lost a dwarf apple tree last summer when it fell over and pretty much destroyed half of the veggie patch. I helped Bri a little, but I suffered with a stuff upper back yesterday and didn’t want to aggravate that. I did promptly have to apply Icy Hot to my lower back though. My neighbor has cut down four trees (I think) 3 leaf trees and one evergreen. We still have a row of evergreens between our house and his (that belong to him).

My father’s half brother emailed me late last night and said that my father’s apartment was all cleaned out-all 6 boxes of the stuff. He gave away a table and a few other things. He had a broken 486 computer too. My uncle said he had some high school annuals, and things from the time he was in the Korean war on a ship. Sadly, he mentioned no photos. My brother wants the stuff, he can have it. The taxi driver who befriended him almost had the same last name as me, change out one letter and add a ‘s’ to his name-isn’t that weird?

I’ve been making some ATCs as gifts and really enjoying it. My one friend’s dad loves to garden and if I post a photo to tribe.net, she nearly always prints it out to show him.

Not sure about the Philly Flower show. I do want to go and I don’t . I have the pass to Longwood Gardens and usually don’t have to worry about crowds. My mom could go with her friend on Tuesday. I was thinking about Wednesday as I am getting my hair done and we could go afterwards. I was also hoping my brother could inspect my van and see what the funny hamster wheel noise is under the hood. I guess I’ll end up going. Any excuse to use my camera!

So I was sitting at the dining room table trying to organize my craft papers and general mess, and I remembered that a local high school’s postponed book sale started tonight-at 5 and it was 6:45. I reminded Bri and within 10 minutes we hit the road! It was fairly crowded and some of the books were pricey. I saw one lady with a scanner device checking out the ISBN on the books to see how much they were worth. I showed her a nice Charles Wysocki book with his collections (he is deceased), but she didn’t want to spend $7 on it and neither did I! Tomorrow is the $7 bag sale (which was $5 last year), but I probably won’t go back. I got old books I can cut up for my art projects-lots of birds in the mix! Bri got some decent train books-someone must have given away their collection. I should find out when they have donations and clear out some books I’ve had forever.

It’s too darn cold!

Standard

I was just telling Barbara on her blog that I faced the cold today-26 degrees and colder with the windchill factored in. Carole in Ontario probably thinks that’s balmy. I had to get some groceries in here and take a blouse back. And mail bills off. It’s hard buying food for two instead of three. I make too much and it’s not a pleasant task unless I’m going to Trader Joe’s, but that’s not often. Too far away. We have an empty grocery store here now as the Acme closed down the road. They built a new one near the hub of my town. Come on Trader Joe’s!

Brian just got his blood test results back and his cholesterol is high. His blood sugar was 106. He immediately says he’s not taking meds for it. The doctor didn’t call him or anything. The first thing he needs to do is some kind of exercise. He has a few pieces of equipment in the basement to use, but they are gathering dust. He has bad knees, but his extra weight isn’t helping. I have extra weight too, so now I’m nervous to get bloodwork checked out. I cook with olive oil, we eat a lot of ground turkey, hardly any red meat. Today my back is bothering me from sitting on the living room floor and bending down to put the snowbaby decorations away. I am pleased to say that nests and eggs, and a paper mache  bunny or two are making there way into the living room to welcome spring!
I got a used electronic postage scale for a good price from eBay and it’s not working. Won’t weigh a darn thing! The seller is going to see if the part she thinks she needs (called company) is cheaper than what I paid for it. If I had known it was 4 years old, I would have passed on it, good price and all. She’s telling me I should have purchased insurance, but in the paypal check out, she didn’t have it as an add on-option. The box she used barely fit the postal scale box! That surely didn’t help. Hope I’m not out almost $20. : (

Off to watch my Thursday shows and do a little stitching on-you guessed it-the zebra!

Mom seems happier

Well, maybe it’s because some of the weight of the world is off her little shoulders. It still irks me to see the dumpster there and know some things could have been rescued, but seeing her more like her old sense warms my heart. I hadn’t been down to her house for almost a month. In that time the furniture got moved around in her living room and it looks much larger. The kitchen is staying nice. Ken bought mom some nice metal shelves (on wheels) and her microwave is on it and lots of canned goods.  I didn’t help her sort things today, we went to JoAnn’s so I could use the 40% off coupon and buy myself some goodies in the form of papers, stampers and stickers. I want to redo my mantel’s garland and found pretty pink, maybe dogwood blossoms to use. We bought some Five Guys burgers and fries and off I went. I was almost home when my low fuel light came on and I had to stop in the brutal wind and get gas. I will help her next Wednesday after I get my hair done.

We are suppose to have wacky weather in the afternoon. I guess I will do a small  ‘Wipe it Clean Wednesday’ to make up for not doing ‘Toss it Tuesday’ yesterday.

Don’t waste your time renting Knocked Up. I was surprised at Katherine Heigl and all the ‘f’ bombs and just everything! I don’t really think middle class people drop it like they did in the movie. And the guys and all their references to their little pals-you get my drift. Since my mom (!) bought it, I thought Bri and I would watch it as I like Katherine in Gray’s Anatomy.  She heard it was good, but I think the name of the movie would make me put it back on the shelf.

Photo Hunt-Free

This image is a part of my memory forever. I love how Brian, my husband, still goes swimming. I love when he ‘dives’ in and then I see his head pop up, matting all his curly hair down on his head. My son isn’t a swimmer (not that his parents are), but he’ll take a dip. It’s the freedom of vacation. A bird out of a cage. The vast Atlantic ocean in front of you. (Fenwick Island, DE)

Thought you’d like to see a photo of me and Valentino:

Me and my froggie

It’s a Webkinz ‘Love Frog’ from Brian! LOL Some of my tribe friends and my niece (big age difference there) collect these adorable critters. I bought one-the lion I named Lil’King as pictured below. You can adopt them online and give them rooms and earn webkinz cash to buy fun things. It’s a nice distraction from housework and the bleakness of winter (see my baggy eyes above)! Yeah, I know, I’m that old and playing on a website. I love Solitaire and Quizzy’s quizzes. : )

We also like to snap photos of them doing stuff around the house. : )

Here’s Lil’King checking out my yearbook:

Checking out the DMC colors!!
I hope I made you smile. : )
Brian gave me a lovely card, a small box of Dove chocolates (never enough), and a Commodores greatest hits CD as I heard ‘Brickhouse’ on the radio a few months ago and thought it would be a great song to exercise too.: ) We went out to dinner and I had NY strip steak and Bri had lasagna.
Have a great weekend.

Here’s one of my presents that I picked out and purchased for $10 off from Fragrance.net. If you want a code for a discount, let me know. And it has a delicately sweet marshmallow scent!

Mariah Carey’s M

Doesn’t it sound yummy? The first thing you smell is marshmallow and then it fades to the wonderful earthy musk.

M by Mariah Carey Eau de Parfum Spray, 3.3 oz.

“For me, creating this scent was like creating a song – it takes many notes to compose a fragrance. It’s like a beautiful melody.” – Mariah Carey

Mariah’s signature scent opens with an indulgent, creamy accord and blooms into an opulent floral heart as a rich base reveals darker, sensual facets.

  • A warm and inviting marshmallow is woven throughout the fragrance, evoking a sense of comfort. This indulgent accord captures Mariah’s fondest childhood memories of being in the kitchen with her father.
  • The lush floral heart of the fragrance combines a feminine veil of Living Tahitian Tiare flower wrapped in the aura of wet Gardenia petals. This beautiful blend is reminiscent of the fragrant breezes of Hawaii and the Isle of Capri, Mariah’s favorite getaway.
  • The soul of the fragrance reveals a sexier dimension. Sheer amber, infused with spicy, woody accents of Moroccan incense forms a seductive accord that embodies Mariah’s sensuality, beauty and glamor.

There’s a bag sitting here for me too! I didn’t get Bri anything yet, but I just don’t know what to get him. I did make some peanut butter cookies last night. : )
My friend Lisa sent me a ‘find your soulmate’ card:

Take the Quiz

I can totally see this if I was taller-lol, but look how tiny his wife Jada is. : )

I won a prize too! A beautiful book with a photograph on the cover from Jo Anne at Paper Cats Page. I’m thrilled!!
