Dianne in the Sunflowers

We finally got around to seeing the 500,000+ sunflowers that Longwood Gardens planted along Schoolhouse Road near the main gardens. They are heavy with seeds now and it’s a field of green instead of a field of yellow. I was a bit disappointed. They aren’t really tall either as I am almost 5’3″ and they are about 10″ or so shorter than me.
It’s a warm day today. I need to do some errands to see if I can find a few little things for mom’s big day tomorrow. We are planning on taking her to the casino about 10 minutes from her house for their buffet. Sean is getting a cold, has a sore throat today. I hope it’s not much of one!
I was looking into getting a room down at the beach this weekend as it’s the gathering of my h.s. pals, but not sure if things will work out. I just want to get through mom’s birthday first. : )

Oh Mexico!

Oh Mexico! 4" x 4" collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

We went to Cancun back on our honeymoon in 1984. Never been out of the country since then. It was very exotic and wild too. We stayed in a place overlooking the gulf and the water was crystal blue. One day we went to the ruins which was an hour’s drive straight through the jungle You’d see little huts with antennas coming out of their roofs.
Sean found these ‘stamps’ at the thrift shop we went to yesterday on the $1 table. I used some of my homemade paper and also the school of fish that I used the bottom of yesterday.
My vintage find was the little teabag holders.

I’d say they have to be at least from the 1960s, not sure. There are a few chips out of them, but they are a complete set. Too cute.

I made this collage up before Sean and I went to Super WalMart out in Lancaster county today. I found some pretty glitter stickers at the store and added them when I came home.
We went in a GNC to get Bri some stuff-he isn’t taking PM stuff anymore at bedtime, so I got him something there, plus tea and stuff for his achy joints. We then hit a Dollar Store (tell me you don’t love looking for through all that stuff?) and then to Chili’s for fajitas before hitting the Super W. On the way there, we stopped at a thrift shop we stopped run by the local Lions and scored some cute things. Sean even got his mom mom something for her collection. Will clean them up and show you in a bit. There was this huge lithograph for a circus, but it $42, so I passed. I think I’ll look into those and see if I could double that price by selling online. It’s only 15 minutes from here, so now I have a new place to look. The only thing was that the guy who waited on me was rude, rang me up, gave me change and then the phone rang and he said he had to take it and left me standing there! I started wrapping my buys until an older man came and helped. Geez. Can’t wait to go back!

New wreath in the family room, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Here is the wreath I got in Lancaster-it fit perfectly in that spot next to the handmade wooden flowers my brother gave me. This is behind my red sofa.

One of my finds in the bargain room!
This is the little S’mores house, tree and ornaments. I have a few bigger ones too!
That’s my niece there and some snowglobes-I didn’t arrange things before I took the photo.

You are my Everything

I love to play with rubber stamps! Her dress was a stamper I got up at the craft warehouse a few days ago. I did it in black and embossed it in blue-sort of looks like a wool dress. The lady’s head worked well, but she had no arms. Instead of making some I just added the rolling pin and fancy purse-so she’s a domestic goddess and fashionista ‘rolled’ into one!
Having yet another quiet day as I had a bit of insomnia last night. I went around and took some photos and did a little laundry. The cupboards are getting a bit bare here-I know what’s on my agenda next! I have a sore left arm-my dominate arm which is annoying. I put an ace bandage on it too.
We may be taking mom to the casino and buffet near her house someday this week either tomorrow or her actual birthday. Since she will be 80, I’m going to try and do 8 fun things with her in the next few months.

Passport Collage

Passport 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I am not a world traveler, but I do get mail from around the world which is really neat. I sent some collage items to a lady in Saudi Arabia and I hope she got them, I need to ask her on Swap-bot. Thanks to Amer. Express for all the junk mail featuring the passport and cancellations as I’ve used them about 3 times now-lol.

The Bon Voyage stamp was embossed and found at Anthropologie. I received the postage stamps on personal mail. I used some special pastels to color in the earth, plane and around the collage.
I’d love to have a yard sale before the weather turns too cool. Just to fit it in sometime is the question. I noticed the people down the road were left with a ton of stuff. I have some decent things like ice skates that were never used (good intentions I swear) and books from Martha*Stewart. I wouldn’t try and sell junk. I’d like to raise some money for Christmas. Our Chestnut trees are dumping the burrs now-terrible to clean up and I wouldn’t want to impale anyway. That would be the best place to have the sale, under those trees-rats! Today I was cleaning out the bottom of the bedroom closet and ran across a box of lps/records. That’s a funny place for them, but they’ve probably been there over 20 years before we put another closet in the family room. Now they are relocated in the family room and I had to move my crochet stuff to the bedroom. The thing is, no needle for the record player! So we have 100s of lps and nothing to play them on. Will Bri give up any? He needs to go to Radio*Shack to order a few if he can. Next on the agenda-going through clothes. I lots of things to the Goodwill, but it would be nice to make some cash too.

Flashing back to about 1975 here gang! This is my friend from high school before we went to a concert. Not sure if you remember The Hudson Brothers, Bill (he is Kate’s dad), Mark and Brett, but we loved them and went to see them at the Allentown, PA fair that summer. I hadn’t heard from my friend for years and we got in touch a few years back and now are Facebook pals. She just became a grandmom this April.
I wish my clothes now were that were loose around my waist again-lol
This is for my nephew who is a freshman at the same school we went too!

Time for Fall, Ya’ All!

For this collage I found the handmade paper that was sent to me first, that’s behind the sunflower. The big leaf was also gifted to me. There’s a few other papers, but the rest are really nice stickers-the clock (love) and owl are 2 dimensional. The acorn is a bit shiny due to the flash.
Here is the card I made for the 4 color project-navy blue, moss green, burgundy and gray. It wasn’t easy, but I like this card, especially the tassle.

Had a very slow day on Friday, but planning more stuff next week. Hope to see my Mom on her real birthday on Thursday.

Two for yesterday

I made these cards within half an hour of each other! When Sean, Mom and me were in Lancaster and I always love to check out the wall of brochures which seem to be in every place you go. This one for Wilbur’s Chocolate in Lititz, PA really caught my eye-perfect for a collage. And we’ve never been here-my goodness that’s just crazy! Must remember to go and do some sampling. ; )
Heart/Love 4" x 4" Collage

The heart one was easy. I made the heart a few months ago. It’s balsa wood with an old text page on top. I just got the scrapbooking paper in the craft warehouse. I found the tag ‘kicking around’ and added that too.
One of my online challenges is to use these 4 colors on an ATC-burgundy, navy blue, gray and mossy green. I asked Sean to get me paint chips at Wally World. He was on the phone as I read off each color describing each-like your room (moss), like a glass of red wine, etc.. He got the blue one right-that’s it. So I’m thinking and looking. The paint chips would have been so much easier. I’ll share when I’m finished the card.

Typical Amish Farm & a little celebration

Typical Amish Farm, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

We took mom out on a day trip on Wednesday. Sean was the driver as he wasn’t really interested in seeing the first place that we wanted to stop at-the Flower & Craft Warehouse. He dropped us off and went for a drive and ended up at a Farmer’s Market! Too bad he didn’t stay with us as they have tables set up with newspapers, magazines and a few tvs for the significant others who aren’t into crafts and flowers. He did have to come in later to find us. Hee hee!
The scenery was just beautiful, the weather perfect and the skies so blue. You do see mile after mile of farms just like this one.
Mom and I headed to the ‘bargain’ room first. I got lots of little things and things to alter. I got a square wreath that looks awesome in the family room. The colors are perfect! It was under $4. I got a S’mores Christmas house with an attached tree and ornaments-$11.
Mom picked out two things as gifts (I have another gift for her next Thursday). She picked out a festive sunflower table display after much hemming and hawing. She also picked out a glittery pumpkin. I know seasonal, but she will remember her day by these.
After shopping, we went to Shady Maple Smorgasbord. I was really hungry! Their specials were prime rib and ham. For $17 you get a bargain. If we could have taken mom up on her birthday, she would have been free! Mom didn’t eat that great. She makes the mistake of filling up her plate and then that takes her appetite away. I don’t have that problem-I just want to taste everything. Sean said he wasn’t hungry, but the second time around he ate more than salad and cauliflower.
Now get this, we stopped at Wally World. I stayed in the car and Sean got his hair cut (so short he looks like he’s in the military) and mom had to use the rest room. I was glad to relax and people watch.
Mom went home around 3 today and said she loved seeing the sights and going to these couple of places.
