A trying evening

Kiss Boo Boo 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

My mom called me about 5 tonight and said my Uncle Don’s neighbor had called her and said she needed to come out to his house (she can’t drive in the dark). My uncle was so weak he couldn’t stand up. He’s been having major bowel issues for weeks and weeks. His stepdaughter called 911 and met them at the hospital as she is about 10 minutes or less from there. He has a massive infection as his white blood count was high. And he was also dehydrated. I am wondering if he’ll be able to go home alone now. He’s 87 and a prostrate cancer survivor of 13 yrs now. Only time will tell. I think he needs someone to take care of him.
So I made a nice dinner anyway-baked pork chops with mushroom gravy which was suppose to have white wine, but the cork got stuck in the bottle from Manheim, PA and I broke the bottle opener. I had Paula Deen’s scalloped potatoes (a bit salty) and au gratin (sort of, I didn’t bake it) cauliflower. Sean use to come home for dinner, but they only want to pay him for 1/2 hour and he doesn’t have enough time to go back and forth. I arranged the food in one of those Chinese take-out plastic boxes so he has a homemade dinner for tomorrow.
My card is for me and my uncle. I think years ago a wrapped head meant you had a toothache (remember Our Gang Comedy)? They have taken all their medicine and need their boo-boo kissed. The kiss is a foreign stamp.
I’ll update about my uncle tomorrow.
~~~Way to go Phillies~~~
The Flyers won 3 games and so can you! 1 down, 2 to go!
Hunter’s Moon
Standard
I just happen to see on my Farmer’s Almanac calendar that in a few day’s the Hunter’s Moon will be full. It’s hard to name these things.
My nerves are bad from the Phillies vs. Giants game. It’s tied as I type this, but the Giants aren’t giving up.
I found the moon in a catalog a few years ago and the face is so nice. The butterfly is like his bow tie. I really like moon photos, etc. so you will probably see a few more over the next 10 months.
Fall exchange gifts from a friend
Standard
I received my gifts today from my friend in Californina. They are just too sweet. I love miniature things and the box is also hand-painted (and filled with candy corn). I bet she made the pumpkin too. And the little book will come in hand. Think I’ll write some ‘original’ verses for my cards. Thanks G!
There’s a very adorable Halloween giveaway at Jill’s blog Bucks County Folk Art. She handmade vintage like shakers. It ends on Friday, so enter is you will.
And Jill, we are planning on being in your ‘neck of the woods’ on Sunday to eat at the Cock and Bull for our son’s 24th birthday. We will look around Peddler’s Village and probably New Hope too.
Fall clean-up
Milkweed seeds, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
Today I decided to dig up the Ornamental grass that had taken over my Lily garden. I ‘dislike’ forgetting to do things. I don’t know what happened last fall, but the one plant I had kept didn’t get it’s seed heads snipped and there were at least a dozen or more grasses everywhere in this bed. I still did keep one plant, but off came the seed heads!
Since I was all ‘worked up’, I went around back and tackled the Butterfly bush. Another shrub which was either not cut back enough or ignored. This was a job and a half! It took me a good 45 minutes to trim. I left an almost full garden cart for Brian who needs to empty it as I can’t lift it (with the grasses). I just left the big pile of branches from the Butterfly bush.
I also planted two pinkish-purple mums and 6 yellow pansies and dug up a Flowering maple plant. I am still packing up stuff to store-now I know why it takes me weeks to get it right as I have so much put out. I am sore, but glad I got done more in the yard.
Isn’t that a neat photo of the Milkweed above? I should cut most of those seed heads off too. Nature sure knows how to regenerate well!
Collage by the Month
October 4" x 4" Collage card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
This is the little lady card I made yesterday. I only added the pink ‘grass’ today. I saw a fellow collage maker do 12 ATCs with the month and birthstone and I thank her for the idea. Here the birthstone is an opal, under the butterfly. I added a bit of sparkle to it. Sean sure doesn’t care for an opal or a tourmaline which is a pink stone and used for October also.
Then I did September today. I had the Sleeping Beauty art cut out for a while and it seemed to fit on the deep blue color theme I was used. The gem sticker isn’t as blue as a true sapphire, but I will replace it if I find one I like better. I love that clock embellishment and also rubber stamped one and lightly embossed it in sapphire blue.
All fixed- I hope
Going to the dentist ruined my day in a way. Sean was off and he is always kind enough to take me somewhere. We had planned to go to my mom’s house, but the appointment was at 3 and I didn’t get home until 4. My tummy was a bit bothersome, I think something is going around in the family. A piece of my tooth had broken off-the natural part, not a patch, so he patched it, but hurt my gums alot! He knew of the brewery we went to a few weeks back and was telling me a long story about that (he’s only about 30).
I did go with Sean to a place that not only changes oil, it changes tires. And they always tell you one or two tires need replacing. Sean didn’t get tires, he’ll go to a Wally World with a tire center and get his 10% off. Geez. We went to Macaroni*Grill which was good, but not as good as the other chain places. And beware of the Italian soda-no free refills, so it cost Sean $12 for 4 drinks-terrible.
I did do a collage, she is almost finished and I’ll put her up tomorrow. I was too tired to add the final touches and take a photo of it.
I can share the adorable gremlin I won from Honey Girl Studio
This is Melissa’s photo. I will have to find the perfect spot for him.
I need to cut back some ornamental grass that spread all over my lily garden and I remember digging most of it out last year. I also want to add a few mums I just purchased. Hope I get to the garden work!
Happy Fall Squirrel and pedestal
Standard
This is what I shipped off last Thursday and my friend got it on Saturday-all the way out to California! She really liked it and it was so fun to make. I basically used a bit of glue and wire. The pedestal is a spool for that wide Christmas ribbon which is cardboard. I used pretty fall scrapbook paper and some punch out yellow letters. I added some mosaics around the top. He is sitting on one of Martha Stewart’s acorns-it’s a half of a box that I colored in. I made the little hat-the hardest part! He is wired on by his tail to the acorn. Around the border are tiny leaves. My friend not only likes squirrels, she likes Snoopy too, so he was put in a prominient spot on the front. The trick or treat bag is a bought embellishment. Finally he is wearing little orange and black bells around his neck.
Peacock 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
I really got busy today after I stuck my roast beef in the oven. I happen to pick the hardest of the trio to work on first, but not knowing what I was doing! ; ) I had gotten a Peacock trio last Saturday at the show and the blue embossed full one I made just didn’t work, so I stamped the head of a Peacock in white on green. It also came with a quote that I stamped around the middle design. The bird is on top of a clothing tag and that is a real Peacock feather. I found use for the full bird and cut it in half for an embellishment.
Then I did the little Brazilian girl from a 1940s book and added a few monkeys. I had started out with the brown map paper underneath.
Finally I used one of the Raphael stickers from a new Dover sticker book I got last weekend. That’s St. Catherine of Alexandria. I think with a few embellishments, it came out nicely.
A bit behind-will be playing catch up
Standard
On Friday Sean took me to get my driver’s license photo done about 18 miles away. After that, we headed down a road and before you knew it, we were in Lancaster! Such gorgeous countryside and the leaves are just starting to change. We passed a narrow, but long field on the stretch of Rt. 30 we were on and the Amish were harvesting pumpkins. Sean said the sign said they were only $1. : )
We mainly went to a few stores in a new shopping center. A Christmas Tree Shoppe had just opened and it was jam packed. Then we went to a Kohl’s next door where I found some slacks that fit so well I bought them in gray and black! When we were checking out, a pregnant Amish lady was there with her two little girls, a sight you don’t see too often. I guess as long as they aren’t using the electric, it’s ok to do a little shopping. It looked like the mom was buying those polar fleece blankets. The children were just staring, so they weren’t use to being in a modern store like that. I admire their spirit and duty, but I am sure it would make more sense to just get with the times. Those buggies can’t be safe to travel in on the busy roads in that area. The children were a bit odd looking, I hate to say that, but I am sure cousins are marrying cousins. Anyway, we went across the street and had a nice Fuddruckers burger and then went to the Gap store where Sean picked out a couple of things for his birthday on the 24th when he will be 24! Can’t believe that.
So I didn’t do my collage yet for Friday or Saturday or as a matter of fact for today either but the day is still young!
Saturday night we met up with some of my former classmates a few towns over. We had some cancel out because of the Phillies play-offs which was on at the bar/restaurant we went anyway. There was a young crowd, Sean likes to go here and we ran into him and his friend when we leaving. When I saw my two pals both named John D., I got a double bear hugs. : ) I hadn’t seen the one John for about 23 yrs. We went out to an outdoor area which wasn’t that cold and it was pleasant to chat until they turned on the surround sound and we couldn’t hear each other. We even asked if the speaker could be turned down which they didn’t do. Our lady pals showed up a bit later and we only stayed another hour which was torture on our ears. It was nice to see those who showed up.
I got up this morning and made breakfast and then felt a piece come out of my tooth that was just repaired. It is feeling a bit rough, so I need to get it checked out. Probably the dentist fooling with it caused it to become weak in other areas. I hope it’s a freebie repair.
Off to the grocery store soon-lucky me. It gets harder to go the older I get!
Miniature display Vino, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
This was taken in March of 2009 at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Every year there is a Miniature competition and this was one of the displays featuring ‘Vino’ or Wine. : ) I have other photos, but this is the clearest of the bunch. Amazingly lovely in it’s small size, don’t you think?
I like this one too, which was best of show.
