The Oscars…borefest

Standard

I got to go to the Academy Awards!
Me at the Oscars

Recap in a few lines-

Loved Gwyneth Paltrow’s salmon/clay colored gown. I would wear it-the top part is way too small for me (so is the bottom, but I like it!)

Reminds me of Anne Baxter in The Ten Commandments but her dress was aqua

Yeah-Alan Arkin won for Little Miss Sunshine even though he played a stiff in part of the movie. Rent it, you’ll see!

Recognition again for An Inconvenient Truth the documentary ‘starring’ former VP Al Gore. Melissa Etheridge won for best song for this same documentary.
Leo and Al

Recognition for Martin Scorsese for best director and the movie The Departed (which Sean just rented and I didn’t finish watching) won for Best Picture.

I want to see The Queen because of Helen Mirren (who won Best Actress).

Best costumes-Marie Antoinette!

Woo-hoo for Jennifer Hudson who won best supporting actress for Dream Girls. She was a vote off on American Idol once! I need to see this movie too.

I can’t forget to mention about James Taylor singing the nominated song from CarsOur Town-very short performance.

Ellen DeGeneres-did the best she could. Seems to me she wasn’t in her element-a smaller crowd is better for her and not of her peers. I changed my previous opinion after I saw her cry about her hosting the Academy Awards on her show today.

I should rule…

You Should Rule Saturn

Saturn is a mysterious planet that can rarely be seen with the naked eye.
You are perfect to rule Saturn because like its rings, you don’t always follow the rules of nature.
And like Saturn, to really be able to understand you, someone delve beyond your appearance.

You are not an easy person to befriend. However, once you enter a friendship, you’ll be a friend for life.
You think slowly but deeply. You only gain great understanding after a situation has past.

What Planet Should You Rule?

Look ma, it’s snowing again!

Standard

Thought I’d pop on here to write a post, but the regular log on page for wordpress was MIA. I had to say I wanted to post a comment to a WP post that did appear and that’s how I logged on in a round-about way!

And it is snowing again with probably an episode of ice, like 11 days ago. Luckily, we finally got our Valentine’s din din last night. The restaurant we like is never crowded on Saturday nights and they have good food. I had my usual Kennett mushroom burger. We made a mistake of getting nachos which killed our appetites for our burgers and shrimp dish(<—Sean). The nachos had a tart bbq sauce mixed in with the meat sauce, so good. Sean took a photo of Bri and me, a tradition it seems to becoming each year. He needs to transfer it to the computer.

Brian and I went to the grocery store afterwards, another place that wasn’t crowded. We heard that this store is closing and moving. I can tell their inventory is lower. I kept checking for MSG and even the Gorton’s fishsticks had it. I am going to turn over a new leaf by cooking more from scratch. I do most of the time anyway. Rachael Ray had a yummy looking cod cooked in a pouch with olives, onions, fennel and garlic) on 30 minute meals today. It is Lent after all.

Sean and I rented three movies. One is playing now that I rented for Brian-The US vs. John Lennon. Sean rented ‘The Departed’. I started to watch it with him Friday night and told him I wasn’t interested in seeing the rest of it last night. Too much cursing, beating, killing, etc. Topnotch actors like DiCaprio, Nicholson, Sheen, Damon and Wahlberg and it’s up for Best Picture.

I rented ‘Marie Antoinette’. I enjoyed the scenery and the costumes. The plot was pretty lame. And why didn’t Kirsten Dunst (MA) and Jason Schwartzman (King Louis) at least have some kind of an accent for being Austrian and French? They sounded like kids from southern California. And the choice of music in most of the movie was odd. I guess Sofia Coppola was doing her own ‘thang’.

Pretty costumes

Have a nice Sunday. It’s pot roast night, so I’ll pop that in the oven soon.

Guilty pleasures?

Standard

Now Pea, this was interesting, esp the little graphic you get!

Guilt What is yours? Explain yourself
Culinary: Butter, chocolate, olive oil They all slide down your throat pretty easily.
Literary: Magazines Cheap, disposable, rip out what you want.
Audiovisual: Computer Before the internet, I actually read more and cleaned more. But I know a lot about computers now!
Musical: None Never feel guilty about listening to music you love and most of all singing along to it!
Celebrity: Tall, dark and handsome-i.e. Tim Daly I can admire from a far!

Lake Stitcher and I are on parallel planes

Standard

Lee over at Lake Stitcher also grew up in Pennsylvania, but further northeast from me. Every place I mentioned this week, she had been there and could relate. I thought that was pretty neat. She even went to the Villas in NJ and my sister-in-law’s mom also has a house down there. When Lee mentioned that she knows the person who owned Poor Richard’s Inn down in Cape May, I thought that was more that coincidence. I mean of all the places down there! I’ll mention a few places and let’s see if she’s been to: King of Prussia mall and Valley Forge National Park. I bet she has!

Have a great weekend!

I don’t know about buying…

Standard

…things from auction sellers anymore. I just got in a slight disagreement with a seller. Actually it was the seller that made a mountain out of a mole hill. She was trying to overcharge me with shipping when she has a shipping rate quoted on the auction! I was bidding on three of her pieces and asked if I could combine shipping and she agreed. Today it was a different story. The things I won were small and probably didn’t weigh a pound. I thought even $5.50 or our agreed upon price of $6.50 was high for the two items I won. I think because she made these things, she wanted a lot more for them and got seller’s remorse. I can’t stand when people make me the bad guy. Do you think it’s wrong that I said I had 7 years experience on this auction site and that I know roughly how much things cost to mail? Anyway, she opened a dispute that I didn’t agree upon and I said so. Plus I sent about three messages to customer support where we agreed upon a shipping cost.

Don’t be fooled by positive feedback. It’s not always want it seems.

~Update~I guess the auction site must have told the seller to complete the transaction or have a mark against her. I got another email, though a form one. I hope she follows through.

Ever get the chills and/or restless legs during the night? I had them and still feel kinda weird. This must be hormonal as I go through something strange at least ‘once a month’. I know I need to get out of the house. Maybe Sean can take me for a drive up to the post office as I surely can’t walk around the yard.

I just read that the additive MSG can give me the above symptoms! The beef stew we had for dinner was a mix and probably had it in the gravy and I just read that the Chex mix had it which I ate an hour before I went to bed. Watch that stuff!

A winter scene

Standard

Yeah! I actually did a little something for myself. : ) It took a few months, but I sewed it into an ornament today.

Just finished ornament

Other than that, the temp is up to near 50 and the snow is melting a little. Sean just went for an free oil change (I had a card) and hopefully he’ll stop by the mall to get his snap on sunglasses fixed and to bring home a shrimp topped white pizza which I am craving. And it’s Ash Wednesday too.
I’m one of ‘those people’ who throw ‘stuff’ (mostly in clear plastic boxes)in their bedrooms when she is cleaning for the holidays and company. I did put some under the bed, but they all won’t fit, so I have to bite the bullet and decide what stays and what goes.
My mom sounds awful! She has a loose cough and was at the doctor’s yesterday. She has a sinus infection and bronchitis! I so need to go clean her place, and hopefully will do that in the next few days.
