I love, love, love spring! Love seeing the flowers blooming, love Easter time, love not wearing a heavy coat. Anyway, here is the gift from Mary Beth, a small plaque and some Easter ATCs cards I made last week displayed among my Easter/spring decor.
Easter already?
When I got up this morning I decided to eat pancakes and clean off the coffee table, but not in that particular order! In fact my house was half decorated for Easter/spring, so I decided to try and finish that up. I haven’t taken any photos yet as it’s so gloomy and I still have to do the dining room table (which is also my craft table). I told Sean his room may be my craft/guest room in the near future. He was not amused. I’d have to lose that mossy green he painted it and do some bright and cheerful color.
I’m doing a better, hence the pancake breakfast. I’m not totally 100%, but I am trying to hold back taking the medicine, but I think I will have to try one sooner or later. I was going to mix up an aloe vera juice ‘cocktail’-it’s only the concentrate and you add a swig to some kind of drink, but my frig tends to freeze stuff if you put it too close to the top vent inside. I could have indulged in a aloe vera icy, but waited until it thawed. My tummy is wondering what that stuff is, but I swear it helps!
So that’s my day so far. I have Easter candy to ship up to State College, but I keep checking to see if I can dodge the raindrops and it is pouring every time I look out the door.
I’ll have to share an awesome gift I received from Mary Beth from http://www.mbshaw.com. It was a thank you for linking to her blog which is over on the right under ‘Art Pub studios’.
Flashback!
My pal at tribe.net wanted to see some photos of us as teens. Ok, I can do that, but since mine are from the middle 70s, they are getting faded, so I photoshopped a bunch!
Happy July 4, 1976! Like my painter pants and the way I love the flag? I really like this photo of me as I was carefree and having fun!
Summer of 1975-Now I’m taller than mom! I did grow a bit, but she shrunk a bit too!
Happy Days was a big show back then, and the Sock Hops were popular again. I think we’re only 14 and 15 here and my mom mom is in the background.
About July or August 1979, I was about 19. Don and I were going to see James Taylor for the first time at the Mann Music Center. That same year, I went with him to see Joni Mitchell. I had that gauzy top for the longest time afterwards.
Feeling a little green
(Not due to St. Paddy’s day)
Got struck with some big tummy issues all day yesterday (and today), so bothersome that I called the doctor last night. I never do that!
I tried everything, but I set out our roast chicken and said to myself, ‘I hope I don’t toss my cookies later’. Fortunately I didn’t, but my indigestion was horrible. I did go to the doctor at 4 pm today and was sent home with Prilosec, a prescription for a stomach antispasmatic and orders for blood work. He tossed in ‘IBS’ and I think that’s my major issue. I had only eaten an English muffin, rice cakes and some apple sauce today, so I made myself a scrambled egg and took the Prilosec. So far, so good-knock wood. I need to get the bloodwork out of the way hopefully before a few other tests (eyes and mammogram). I’m not crazy about writing posts like this and I almost didn’t. I wanted you to know that I’m not 100% and I may be off and on in the next few days. Crossing fingers I’ll be fine.
Not much new other than not having our corned beef dinner yet (I can’t even think about eating that right now). Oh, I thought my cabbage was missing and it had rolled out of the bag to the middle of the sidewalk where Brian found it when he got home last night.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day
I wore green yesterday and may have to again today as I go looking for some corned beef. : ) The above faux carnations were about 29¢ each at Michaels. Pretty aren’t they? Irish heritage is rich on Brian’s side of the family. He is Brian Patrick! I have a drop of Irish blood in my veins from my maternal great grandmom Lillian Deere whose people were from County Cork.
Sean made it back to State College fine. The days he is coming or going set us on edge until we know he’s where he is suppose to be. We know the roads up there and you would worry too.
I didn’t realize how busy I was last week when Sean was home. I was on the go for 3 straight days and just pooped out on the weekend. I could have gone to bed at 7 last night. Mom just said I maybe shouldn’t be doing all that raking because of the procedure I had 3.5 months ago, but it needs to be done. Mom’s yard needs cleaning up too.
I pulled out this project yesterday, the DMC linen thread project Butterfly Heart :

The main butterfly is almost complete. Mom had given me the complete box of threads. It’s different from the regular DMC, coarser for one thing. I am liking it more as the colors fill in.
Speaking of stitching, please visit Stitch Pink for a chance to win these awesome prizes. (thanks for the link Barbara)
I asked Brian to trim a few bushes on Saturday (to get him moving a bit too) and why not use the new electric saw that Sean and I bought him last year for Father’s Day. To make a long story short, the chain came off and he was trying to put it back on and sliced into one of his fingernails, about half way down. Ugh. He is using that liquid bandage, but is keeping a close watch of it. I feel so guilty, but since it’s a Kraftsman, he could have taken it to Sears to get it fixed or wear gloves. Makes me think back when Sean cut into one of his fingers with the hedge clippers-not wearing gloves-but he went to the ER.
I need to do a bunch of things around here and hope my soreness from raking and hauling simmers down. There seems to be leaves from every yard within a 1 mile radius in our yard this year!
Oh, the forsythia may be blooming for Easter.
On his way again
Photo Hunt-I spy
So gang, this was a hard hunt! I went outside and took over 20 photos and narrowed it down to this, which is photoshopped to make it more interesting, plus my guys liked this one best. I should say this is a bush under my bedroom window and there’s a wee friend hiding!

Here are a few others I took just for fun:
(a police car drove by when I was taking this, I guess he wondered what I was doing!) It’s a faux stone that says ‘tranquility’.
Watch this space
I hope by the end of today to get the zebras finished and posted-AMEN! What a chore they were, and I so dislike XS to be talked about in those terms. If I had just thought to do the darkest color first in the bodies, I would have saved myself much grief. The grass wasn’t easy either. I think they will be a nice addition to the quilt(s) for the twin boys. I can’t wait to do a few Christmas ornaments soon.
Sean and I enjoyed our afternoon shopping, though both of us have been ‘off’ in the tummy dept. Wonder what that was? We did go to Fridays for dinner as my friend Karin had given me a gift card for that restaurant. We are sitting there and a large group of people sit behind us. One guy said, ‘Save a place for Mike D!’ That’s Karin’s husband’s name! What a coincidence!
We got some nice things for Brian (can’t say what as I see him looking here) as his birthday is on the 24th. Need to look for one more thing.
I treated myself to a few things at Michael’s crafts and Kohls as I haven’t been to these stores for a while. Shopping is fun!
Update-no stitching today-yet. I decided since it was near 60 degrees I wanted to rake out a few more areas/gardens. I created about 6 huge piles and Sean helped me pick them up. I was so happy to get his help!
Then I was trying to do the Photo Hunt for tomorrow (I finally picked a few I will use) and took some extra photos for your viewing.
I took off the netting that was over the pond and thought this leaf looked interesting:
Part of my neighbor’s huge wood pile. Notice the older wood next to the newer.

These are wings from an angel lawn ornament that I was trying to take an interesting photo of. This is next to the pond and I photoshopped it. Notice the reflection of the barren trees in the water:

Still a big jackpot!
We do ‘gamble’ every week and buy a few dollars worth of Powerball tickets. I just saw that no one won again and the payout is worth $275 million! Wow! Just a piece of the pie would be fine for me. ; )
Not too much going on. Sean went to the eye doctor and now has contacts, but he needs new glasses too. It only took him about 10 minutes to learn how to put them in-must be those long fingers. He has to get his glasses up at the State College Walmart as he can’t come home again to pick them up. By the way, I think I mentioned this earlier, the eye doctor was in a photo with Oprah Winfrey and she told me she had been to her show. That’s all.
Here’s a closeup of the only thing(s) we bought at the Flower show. Mom bought me the burgundy, pink and lime flowers that the local Acme store booth had and Brian bought me the beads to commemorate the flower show.
We were going to go to the outlets in Lancaster, but decided to go to Delaware instead. My tummy was way off yesterday and I’m ok today(so far), so I think we’ll go to Old Navy, Michaels and Target!
How sweet it is
…to be 60 years old! Congrats James Taylor, my favorite singer. I was around on the internet when JT turned 50 and emailed the webmaster of his unofficial site some old photos I had. One or two got used in a card that was made for James! This year, I made my own. I use both Paint Shop Pro 7 and Adobe-switch back and forth. The photo of him playing a banjo was on his sister Kate’s website. (the bigger version is in flickr).
I bought my 1st JT lp when I was about 13 when my mom let my brother and me pick out what we wanted in JC Penneys. I believe it was ‘Sweet Baby James’ and Don picked out either Carol King or Joni Mitchell. I’ve been a fan ever since. I’ve seen him 4 times over the years. I know people who have seen him dozens of times. Garth Brooks named his daughter Taylor after him and Melina Kanakaredes is a fan too. I admire his kids and his family too. What’s my favorite JT song-I really love the sound of ‘Only A Dream in Rio’. I like ‘Line ’em up’ and ‘October Road’ too. And the oldies. What can I say?
JT special achievements:
- 1971 — Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, “You’ve Got a Friend”
- 1977 — Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, “Handy Man”
- 1998 — Best Pop Album, Hourglass
- 2001 — Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”
- 2003 — Best Country Collaboration With Vocals, “How’s the World Treating You,” with Alison Krauss
- 2006 — Grammy MusiCares Person of the Year. At a black tie ceremony held in Los Angeles, musicians from several eras paid tribute to Taylor by performing his songs, often prefacing them with remarks on his influence on their decisions to become musicians. These artists included Carole King, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Sheryl Crow, India.Arie, the Dixie Chicks, Jerry Douglas, Alison Krauss, and Keith Urban. Paul Simon performed as well, although he was not included in the televised program; Taylor’s brother Livingston appeared on stage as a “backup singer” for the finale, along with Taylor’s twin boys, Rufus and Henry.
Kenny Loggins just turned 60 too!
