Show & Tell-Meant to be

Standard

I just changed my avatar, though it’s not showing up right away. I think it’s funny that WP asks you if it’s rated ‘G’, ‘PG’….to ‘X’. Don’t worry, I’m definitely ‘G’.
A few days ago, I was looking through some old jewelry that I had found at my mom’s. It was mostly broken, many missing stones. The main thing, most of it was my Mom mom Ruth’s jewelry. I’ve been told my grandfather gave her lots of jewelry, mostly costume, but very pretty. I always see her in my mind’s eye accepting a gift from her beloved Alan in her shy, ‘shouldn’t have’ manner. I ran across a gold and green necklace in the case. It looked like it had been ripped off Mom-mom’s neck as the latch and ring were missing and what metal was left was pulled. I was going to ask someone to fix it for me-jewelry repair scares me. Now if you asked me 10+ years ago if I would be wearing this necklace, I’d say it’s too old-fashioned looking. Anyway, I laid the necklace on the table and forgot about it for a few days. Yesterday, I was again sorting through things (I got this from my mom) and didn’t I find a package with the ring and fastener-3 of them! What were the odds? I decided to see if I could fix it-without using my needle-nose pliers-can’t find my jewelry stuff. After a few minutes-or more- I managed to twist the remaining metal securely around the new fastener and ring and it feels secure enough to wear! So here is a fairly nice photo that Sean took of me, though a little weary looking-

Thursday ‘T’s

Standard

1. Your thoughts on truck drivers?
What would we do without them? I just hope they are getting enough rest on their long trips along without not too many hemorrhoids. Really-all that sitting is an issue!

2. Did you hear Michelle Duggar is pregnant for the 15th time? (but that will be kid #19 if you lost count….)
This is scary to me-she’s really stretching out the old innards-a lot. I know her last baby was a C-section. I always hope things run smoothly. She has her own live in babysitters with the older kids.
3. Have you ever done something to hurt someone intentionally… just for the sole purpose of hurting them because you thought they deserved it? Maybe a paybacks a bitch sort of thing?
I have told a few women off-on the phone and in an email. Well, they seemed to only be bothering with me to have someone to complain to about their unhappy marriage or they wanted to know my business. Then there would be a month or so go by. I’m pretty much a faithful friend and listener, but I couldn’t stand this one woman tell me in March she still had my Christmas gifts! Never did get them!

4. Is there anyone in your life that when you go to their place of residence, you just walk in without bother knocking? Does anyone just walk into your house without knocking? My uncle’s house and my one of my brothers-they are usually expecting us.
Our house is usually locked up tight as a drum-only open it when we now people are almost here.

5. Whats in the trunk of your car? Do you even have a clue?
Some reusable bags, an air pump and a plastic pink beach mat. And a few bags for the Goodwill.

6. When you go to a family holiday get together (such as Christmas or Thanksgiving), about how many people are there? In my immediate family (maternal) there are 13 of us, so about that, give or take a few.

7. What is in your kitchen sink right at this very moment? A blue plastic dish pan and a few pots soaking from dinner.

8. You go to a store to buy an expensive item… say $150. You pick up that item and a couple other this n’ thats. You get to the register and the expensive item rings up at $40. The cashier doesn’t seem to notice and tells you your total. Do you go with what they say and pay it or do you question the price difference? You know you would question it if your $40 item rang up at $150…. I would probably make a comment-that’s all? That’s a big price difference.

9. Do you fold your underwear or do you just toss it in a drawer?
Fold!

10. There is a Harley-Davidson giveaway. Chances are $100 and they are only selling 250 tickets. Do you buy one? Not interested in motorcycles and with my luck, I wouldn’t win. $100 is a lot to us right now.

11. Who is your favorite Disney character?
I love them all-but have Tinkerbelles around and of course Mickey Mouse.

12. It’s September – most of the weekly sitcoms/dramas are starting new seasons again. Which one are you most looking forward to?
Lost, Heroes and mostly Gray’s Anatomy because I want to see what happens to Izzy. I know George bit the dust because the actor wanted off the show.

13. You are at a grocery store and are on your way out to your car with your cart full of grocery bags. On your way to your car you see a black kitten in an empty cart. What do you do? I’d have to talk to it…it’s not my responsibility, so I’d wheel him in to the store manager. I already have a cat at home who is attached to my hip and would be really jealous.

14. Is there anything that you do for a hobby that you are asked to do for friends/family that most people would hire a professional to do? (example: cake decorating, fixing cars….)
I have sewn a few curtains and pillows for family. I also enjoy taking photos and don’t mind framing good ones as gifts.

15. Are we there yet? I sure hope so!

One good deed deserves another

Yesterday Sean helped trim his Great Uncle Don’s bushes and worked around the yard, so something good came about today-he got a call from the Delaware*State Park Dept! On Friday he has an ‘interview’ in Delaware City for one of two positions in researching invasive species in the the area. The man that called said some funding came in, so positions were opened up. The research area would be the White*Clay Creek State Park in nearby Newark, DE. Crossing fingers for Sean as he’s been looking for 3.5 months and found this on his own. One thing could lead to another. Of course he said he’d love to do research in the beach areas. ; )
I also worked my pants off at my uncle’s yesterday. The first thing I did was get my trusty rake and pull a 40 foot vine (at least) growing up and around his bedroom window. My next big job was a wild grape vine attacking a bush near the end of his driveway. I was praying it wasn’t poison ivy or anything-so far, so good. Many of the properties in his area are on steep hills and Sean had to do the dragging up to the back yard. I did that a few years ago and it was too much for my knees. The only bad thing that happened was Sean cut through the cord with the hedge trimmer! So we are glad to have helped Uncle. I saw the garage door open and out he came with his walker and watched us and ‘ordered’ us around a bit-lol-he wanted Sean to throw the debris over a fence. He made a big pile. We are hoping we’ll be allowed to go and burn it sometime in the fall. He has oodles of tree branches around too.
Trying to muster the strength to go food shopping and mail off Sherry’s package. : )

Blooms in September

Standard

I am pretty happy with the way the front garden across from my front door looks. I have mostly purple flowers with a contrasting touch of the orange nasturtiums and Pinwheel Zinnia. My mom bought me a 4-6 pk of the zinnias for under $1 and I gave a couple to Sean and kept some. They spread so nicely.
Here’s the garden:

The purples and pinks are Nemesia and Salvia. I had to treat the Salvia a lot with bug spray as the insects love to nibble on it. The Zinnias and Nasturtiums are in the right corner. On the other side is a coleus with a peeking of the gold/yellow mums coming into bloom. (Ignore the weeds behind the salvia-need to get to them). This is all under a huge evergreen where I have plantings all the way around.

Does anyone know what this plant is? It came up by itself in a shady area of the yard:

For Zoey-the Crepe Myrtle is blooming now. I was out taking photos of the above and around the yard yesterday. That was after I was pulling out a garden cart of weeds from the flower bed next to the photo above. Today I am feeling it in my shoulder blades. Sean and I are going over to my Uncle Don’s to trim some hedges for him. Bri and I did it a few years back.

Only a few days left until the drawing for my bag of goodies. I promise you’ll like what I have in the giveaway. I made this Artist trading card last night to add to the booty. I bought the little starfish from a shop on Sunset Beach near Cape May, NJ and it’s not the only thing I bought there (hee hee). The seashell stamp in the middle of the umbrella is embossed in a sparkly gold. Add your comment to the sticky post above to be counted in. It won’t count under this entry. Good luck!

Thursday Thunkies

Standard

1. Have you ever played Bulls***?
Probably under another name. We use to play all kinds of card games. My grandmom even taught us poker!

2. A dog licks you on your face. Are you disgusted or thinking it was sweet?
A puppy-sweetness, an older dog-would wonder what he licked before he got to my face.
3. Tell us about a fun/special memory you have of a grandparent.
On my gosh, my grandmom Ruth helped to raise us! There are so many memories. She use to scold us and then chase us with the yardstick or a neon orange Hot*Wheel track. She loved her costume jewelry and wore a lot of it at once. Around the house she would just toss on whatever was clean-floral tops with plaid skirts. She did all the cooking and we got use to pot roast, meat sauce and spaghetti, chicken and dumplings and stew. I do continue to make my own versions of her meals.

4. Have you ever pet a rat?
I believe the neighbors had one and I did!

5. If I walked into your kitchen, where are the cups?
Do you mean like coffee mugs-they are on the right on their own shelf-a must have.

6. Since you already let me in your home, I found the cup and had water, now where’s the bathroom from the kitchen?
Ok-you make a left and another left-first door on the left!

7. Have you ever pet a turtle or tortoise? Had pet turtles, so yes!
