A bit zonked

Standard

I just realized that I was pretty much on the go for over a week, since my birthday on the 19th. Our house is much quieter now since Sean is back in State College again. We figure he has 5 more trips up and back before he graduates. That’s if he doesn’t stay up there and work-he had to lease his place for a year-which is until next August. We do miss him like crazy-what can I say, I lucked out and enjoy being around him.

We tried to eat chicken fingers for dinner, too much like turkey! We had turkey Reubens for lunch-the sammie you usually make with corned beef-Swiss cheese, cole slaw and Thousand Island. Friday I had made ‘Bobbies’ like a local hoagie place is famous for-turkey, stuffing, whole cranberry sauce and mayo. Both very good, but I am all turkey-ed out.
Many blogger pals, and even cousins at the wedding last night have decorated their homes already. I still think it’s a little early for me, plus I need to take Autumn stuff down. I may start with a festive wreath to replace Mister Turkey wreath who is still hanging up! It was really too lousy of a day here to do anything outside.
I’ve been having fun trading ‘skinny cards’, which are 3″ x 5″ with artists on a Flickr group. I have had American lady swappers, but I’ve also traded with two Finnish ladies. Almost everyone sends me papers, stickers or ribbons too and I learned to send some to them too. I’ve always loved getting mail, so this is great. What’s also neat is someone who looks at my skinnies or ATCs in my photos and asks if they can trade with me just because they like what I’ve made.
Here’s the latest one I am sending to Tarja in Finland:
Peace on Earth Skinny Vaihto

Another paper artist friend shared this little girl image and many others with us on Flickr.

I need to work on my Christmas card this week. I have a great idea in mind and hope it turns out. I then will get color copies made into cards so I don’t use all my printer’s ink. I did this last year, but didn’t make a stand-up card-I will try to this year.

Have a great cyber Monday. I may  browse around a bit on Amazon for Sean’s gifts.
Update-About 15 minutes after I wrote this I picked the cat up to put him down the basement and aggravated a muscle pull that I somehow had gotten, I think on Friday. Well I tried to go to sleep and it was bugging me as it was in the chest area. I had Bri awake too. Finally I put my bra on under my nightie and stuffed it with tissue where it was aching (stop laughing) and it helped! I was thinking the worst for myself. Having Lyme Disease means it’s so easy to get aches and pains. Now I have an ache on the left side, so I guess it moved. I guess so much being on my feet lately did me in. I did toss some laundry in though. I want to decorate!

The most interesting campaign literature

Standard

I meant to share this a few days ago:

Think it’s real or Memorex? Ugh!!!

This was addressed to me, the only woman in the house. It is McCain/Palin campaign literature. I will have to say that I felt it was an invasion of my voting privacy from the primary election and it cinched my vote today. Yes, I really admire Hillary. She’s up there with Shirley Chisholm, Geraldine Ferraro and Bella Abzug. I wrote a paper about Shirley in high school. If John Edwards had bowed out early because of his scandal, it may be a different election-IMHO.

One of the WordPress bloggers asked ‘who do you want to win’ and has 13,000 replies, many anti-Obama. Sorry the poorer Americans can’t get to a computer to have their say.

We went to Sean’s old elementary school to vote and thank goodness the ‘A-C’ line was short, I was about voter 745.  I noticed a guy I went to high school with in line, but couldn’t recall his name until he was finished. I vote straight party and the scanner always says I don’t have enough votes. The lady asked if I want to write in any names and I say no. Bri voted differently than Sean and me, said he was voting for his father too, since he isn’t well enough to vote this year. That’s one way to vote isn’t it? Go out and vote!

Obama takes Pennsylvania-a state McCain really needed.

Congrats to my friend Carole over at Pea’s Corner who is a first time grandmom as of yesterday! Her son and his wife welcomed little Lily into the world.

The curse of Billy Penn?

Standard

Or things happen for a reason?

The weather in this neck of the woods is certainly frightful today for a baseball game (39 degrees and pouring rain). The Phillies were winning 2-1 until the top of the 6th inning and Tampa Bay’s Upton came along and tied it up! The game was then delayed…until…3 am? tomorrow? Wednesday in Tampa Bay? I bet it will be Wednesday. The local news people are saying things happen for a reason…we’ll see.

And the curse of Billy Penn-Bri reminded me and then the newscaster repeated it. Ever since skyscrapers were built taller than the statue of William Penn on top of City Hall in Philly, the major sports team haven’t won a championship. We’ll see…
Update-11:22 pm-the game was suspended. AHHHHH!

Off for the mammogram tomorrow in that lovely cold and windy weather. Crossing fingers.

Productive and Non-productive

Standard

Sunday afternoon was good for me. I finally wrapped up all the pastel things, including teapots and butterflies and packed them away. I got most of the living room cleaned and decorated and started to have an allergy issue. I thought it may be from dust (and there was a lot of it-where does it come from?) But I also feel this was the issue:

We had had Chinese food the night before-I knew it was in it the first bite-way too much. I swore I’d never eat it again (unless the restaurant states they don’t use it, but Bri read most fast food uses it too) and I set myself up for problems. I did make Bri a nice steak dinner, but within an hour after eating,  I felt a bit dizzy (probably my sinuses reacting) and had to lay down. I’m sure I had to pass that toxic dinner out of my system-I’m warning you all! ; )  I did notice the rub for the steak had some in it too. I did start to feel better, but I was a bit scared. I’m about to head for bed. My eyes were bothering me as it was. I sat down to do some ATCs and had to get up.I did go on to watch tv- a new show called ‘Fringe’-interesting and some medical mystery shows-maybe I should have skipped them.

But we also had soy sandwiches for lunch made to resemble chicken. They were on wheat buns and we didn’t care for them-a bit tasteless. I’m not sure if that’s what upset me, but it could have added to it as I don’t eat many soy products. Oy! Hopefully the weather will cool down and we’ll get in the fall frame of mind again. : )

Update-noonish

I didn’t sleep well either. Went to sleep about 4 and had hit the hay at 12:30. I definitely am having allergy issues. Did I say it was 80 degrees last evening?

I’m expecting the dishnet guy here between 1-2, so will try and get my act together.

I got an email from an old friend who is having a rough time. Goes to show, there’s always someone who is going through more stuff than you. I feel so bad for her as she has an Erma Bombeck sense of humor, but her health issues, eyes and post traumatic distress (she lost a daughter several years ago) that she is having trouble coping. I do understand people need to take meds, but if there was some alternative, I’d try that first. I’m one of those people who can’t tolerate meds well. That may be a good thing now, but I hope down the road it won’t effect me too much. Anyway, N, love ya lots!

Photo Hunt-Strings

PSHunt

Oh this was a difficult hunt, but I located some dusty strings on this model ship in my son’s bedroom (reflected on his little dresser mirror). I didn’t want to pull out the guitar and I even took this photo:

of Bri’s old slippers (ew and never thought they would get blog time) and this:

Of a pretty tassle hanging from my curio cabinet.

Sherry is doing a Truth or Dare for her blog party. She had quite a dare! My goodness girl!

The only thing I remember is I dared myself to stop these freshman girls in the dorm from slamming their door every time they came in and out. I was older and it was rather annoying. It was before security cameras, I guess, like 1980. I got out the vaseline and coated the door knob. I listened for a reaction within the next 1/2 hour and I heard a ‘ewwwww gross’ as they tried to open the slippery doorknob . HA! I had a good laugh. And I kept a straight face when they told me about it too.

Opps, I did it again…

Standard

A few months ago, I drove into a water filled crater and put a bubble in my left rear tire. This happened as I was putting a package in the correct mailbox down the road to save the mailman from doing it. Bri had to jack up the car, take off the damaged tire and put on the ‘donut’-spare tire and reverse the process.  Well today, I was stopping at the bank to tap the MAC machine and misjudged a curb that is at the left as you turn in. The bank is off a busy road going through Kennett, and I am always afraid someone is going to rear end me there. Well I went over the curb like I was in the General Lee on the old Dukes of Hazzard show! Repeat above with Bri, but it’s the front left tire with the big bubble in it. My neck is complaining a little, but I managed to do the week’s food shopping, so think I’m ok-it wasn’t like I flew 10 feet in the air, just came down with a bump. The seat belt really went tight on the left side, where it happens to bother me anyway. And I was in that area to mail off all goodies for people too. Darnit!  So that’s my story, and I’m sticking with it.

Hoping for a peaceful night.

Look that this mop top!

Standard

And mop bottom too! LOL

I always wondered what these caterpillars were. A little google search lead me to the correct page-they are Milkweed Tussock Moths. They are kinda pretty with their silvery wings when they turn into moths.

And of course they seem like they this area of PA. They have devoured the milkweed which I save for the Monarch! Hopefully the Monarchs got their fill of the tender milkweed they prefer.

Went to the dentist and they got kinda quiet. Without x-rays, he found 5 small cavities in my front teeth, but they can wait until the insurance turns over in January. He gave me a special paste I have to apply before bed to help my aging, barely holding in there teeth (so I exaggerate-seems many of my family members are good at that lately!) My dilemmas!!

Kudos to my friend Karin for landing a great job as a Culinary instructor at a Vo-tech school! She just graduated in December from culinary school and had a job with sporadic hours, so she is happy to get this one.
Jim needs another operation to fix his nose. I am so sick about wondering about how he hurt himself so badly.

Rusty looking water

Standard

I’m a bit concerned as the heavy rains caused our well water to become rusty looking. This morning it was just cloudy, so I did a little laundry. Well didn’t the rust get on my towels and undies-ugh! I guess I should have known better. I thought it would be better by later afternoon. Crossing fingers it’s ok.

I have been trying to get my living room/dining room area tidied up by sorting and moving things. I have to get realistic and get rid of more cookbooks and clipped recipes. If anyone in the US is looking for a particular cookbook, let me know. If you are willing to pay postage, I’ll send it to you. Believe me, I may have just what you are looking for!

Not feeling too great. I was sitting on the floor too much, and I can’t really do and my tummy was off a bit as it was. Right now I’m eating some yogurt in hopes I’ll feel better to make the squash frittata I was suppose to make last night. Haven’t been to the store in over a week and the guys have plowed through all the snacks. This hasn’t been the greatest week for me, and the store is a mile away.

Local guy really feeling the heat

Standard

A local newsman, Larry Mendte, really screwed up his career by hacking into his co-anchor’s Alycia Lane’s email account-about 500 times over the last few years!

During this time, Mendte allegedly leaked privileged legal information about Lane’s personal life to the press “in an attempt to undermine his colleague’s ongoing legal cases,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Laurie Magid at a press conference on Monday.

Larry is from Lansdowne, PA, the same town as my mom and graduated with Brian from West Chester University in 1979. He worked at the same tv station where my oldest brother does.

The article goes on to say that he was jealous that Lane made about $100K more than him a year. Larry was on the syndicated nationally known show ‘Extra’ years back, before returning back to the Philly area to anchor the news.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been watching ‘The Mole’ and the last of the three people from the Philly area went home (was executed) last night. Clay, from West Grove, PA a few towns over, at least got to see his wife before he was sent home. I’m going to be on the look out for either one of them at Walmart, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I picked some Italian green beans (I think that’s what they are) today and a few zucchini. It was wicked hot to do so. It is suppose to rain tonight and tomorrow-thank goodness! We watered things anyway, as they were so droopy. A couple of squirrels were in the pear tree having a feast and scooted away when I came to pick the beans. I noticed there was a small pile of pears, like they were harvesting them! I picked them up, thank you critters!

Lilies and a toad

Standard

Lilies and a toad, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Took these photos Thursday night after a long day of gardening. Bri found the little toad in the grass and he posed for us nicely. (That’s Bri’s hand) The only lilies that aren’t mine are the white ones on the bottom from my last visit to Longwood Gardens.

Update Fri.afternoon-I’m going to get my eyes checked out in an hour. Actually the right has been getting really red off and on for about 3 weeks. The only drops that help are Clear Eyes-which may be giving me rebound red. Seems it started when I put hydrocortisone too close to my eye for a rash on my nose. Who knows?

I think my gums at least look better. See what middle age has in store for you!

I did finally figure out a virus software issue. We have one that not a lot of people have (Panda), it was recommended by a friend whose husband works with computers. It was giving me an error message in the virus protection area. I scanned the computer umpteen times and it was ok. Finally got it in my head to go to client downloads and there was a newer version and it worked. The dang thing needs to be renewed in a month anyway. I just love dilemmas like this-oy!
