Cyber Monday

Standard

How I enjoy shopping on the computer! The weather was chilly and dreary and I got to snuggle up on the sofa to shop-pure bliss. I have to be really selective this year and I found a place that has neat things and bargains-Lake*side Collection.com. I think I ordered 16 things (a few for me) and it was just over $100. Can’t beat that. I then need to get some things at good old Wally World and then get a few gift cards. I asked for a Cuttlebug-the machine that embosses and cuts paper. The above company has that cheaper than Wally World. I used a few gift cards I got for my birthday to get 25% or free shipping. I could go to those stores, but the one item I ordered is exclusive to the online place.
I was pleased as punch as I also got Sean things from his Ama*zon wishlist. Then Mr. May*tag repairman showed up…
Yes, I do need a element-$200 buck-a-roos. No he wouldn’t take a deposit, needed the entire amount. Why I didn’t write a check-but pulled out the debit card and out he went to his truck. In a few minutes he came in and said it was declined. Hello airhead, it’s Cyber Monday and people are going to town with the debit/credit cards! Out he goes again. I thought I was saying good-bye to $200 and it turned out to be $600! After he left, I checked out my bank account online and there it was, 3 debits in a row-apparently it did go through! I have an email and a phone call into our very local bank (11 offices) to hope this mess can be cleared up in a few days. I just mailed off a ton of bills and as I told you, did a bit of shopping. Why does cr@p like this happen to me?

By the way, didn’t talk to my mom today(she hung up on me Sunday) and the other person in the fiasco is very depressed. Maybe the silent treatment will get her thinking about how nice things could be.

My brother’s gift is an egg separator! (see below). You crack the egg into his head and the whites run out the nose area! The lady at the shop says it works great. My brother was always the one who liked to talk about gross stuff, so that gift had his name written all over it! I also got him a nice blus ceramic business card holder and a plug-in aromatic thingie.

Crossing fingers for tomorrow!

Mama’s getting a new toy!

I gathered some things that I had been gifted with over the years-some necklaces, bracelets and earrings that I would never wear (not my taste)that belonged to someone else (deceased). These were ‘regifted’ to me over the different holidays, and I would just stick them in storage. I went up to the neighborhood jewelry store on Thursday to sell it. I almost got enough for the full purchase price for this:
Dell15.6
It’s a Dell 15.6″* Inspiron* 1545!
With Windows* 7! Rolled over at Wally World to a better price! I wanted something I could take with me to bookstores, coffee shops, on trips and I needed a faster computer for games I play on Facebook. I still own jewelry that I like and I even left off two rings to be resized, one of which is my birthstone, but a blue topaz. Hey, I’m getting older and like everyone else, I need to downsize. It’s great to make a little cash in the process.
Brian doesn’t know about my purchase, but I think he’ll be ok. He was looking at a laptop on here and it was over 1k and I said no way. Can’t wait for my early birthday gift. It has a webcam and case, so if anyone has that, we could use it to chat.

Probably going to my mom’s to help her clean in her room. My brother is moving in at the end of the month.

A Day in Bucks County, PA

Standard

A Day in Bucks County, PA
The three of us took a daytrip up to Bucks County, PA on Sunday to celebrate Sean’s birthday a wee bit early(it’s really the 24th). We thought he may have to work, but alas, he called the lady that ‘hired’ him from the grocery store and now she said they were in a ‘hiring freeze’. Very sad indeed. He is first on the list-so he hopes this is true info. The restaurant in Peddler’s Village in Lahaska, has the best Sunday brunch. Brian and I stumbled upon it 10 yrs ago when we went up in the same area to celebrate my 40th. From breakfast treats to craved meats and treats, everything is prepared (I think this is right) by culinary students. The village had a fun array of scarecrows/effigies on display from Scarecrow ‘crows’ to Michael Jackson. More are in my Flickr photo stream. It was a chilly and blustery day. My feet gave out early as I’m not use to wearing heels. I should have wore my sneakers. Sean and I plan to try and catch some of the autumn foliage in Lancaster one of these days. The leaves in Bucks were just changing a little and everything was wet looking.

I am using the larger of the two collages and I got cut out of the one with Brian. The building is the Bucks County Playhouse right on the Delaware River in New Hope, PA. This is where many of a celebrity did summer stock, even Tim Daly when he was a boy.

Mall sports bar, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is a SPORTS bar and restaurant at the mall in Atlantic City, NJ. My guys almost lost their eyes when they saw all the tvs that were all tuned in to some kind of sports. My mom and I did tolerate it for the short time we were there although it was very loud. The big screen did have a ball game on. The bar was nicely lit too. Unfortunately this mall is getting known for people falling off their very steep escalators with very bad consequences. It’s happened twice in a year now.

If you happen to like to cross stitch and are looking for new stash, my friend Barbara is selling off some of hers here. Mosey on over if you please. I think I’ll put up a few of mine too-I actually have more than a few, so watch here.

Fall planting

Standard

Today while the guys went to visit Bri’s dad (and finally jam a large rug in my van for my mom that has been rolled up for months), I decided to plant the garlic I got from Burpee last week. I wonder if you can just buy the bulbs at the grocery store or maybe the Burpee ones are treated? Anyway, I sat at the table and pulled the cloves apart-I must have at least 30. It took no time to plant 20+ of them in the plastic upright container I use to use for a water garden. I’m wondering if I should wrap it up with something or get hay for the top? It gets cold here, but not brutal like up north more. I then checked out the ‘fall crops’ and the arugula, spinach and lettuce, mostly the first two, should be ready in a week or so! I only see a few beets (if that’s what they are) and a few radishes. Radishes always grew good for me. Maybe it got to shady out there. I may add a line of the garlic where the beets are suppose to be.
I took Mr. Cosmo Kitty for a walk. He hadn’t been out for a week or more. He really lost his nose in the garden area next to the front door, must have had a night visitor one time.
I’m getting joint trouble with my pointer fingers. I know cross stitching has to be the issue on the left-overuse all these years. The right hand isn’t complaining as much, but it’s definitely has the bumps on it like the joint on the other hand. I have been putting Icy hot on it!
We are going to get some nice weather this week coming up, but I really need to switch out the tank tops for sweaters. Hope Sean will be getting the stuff out of the attic shortly(still no job for him, even at a shoe store). Trouble with small houses with small closets-no storage. I envy my two sister-in-laws who have walk-in closets!
And I want to say how great Magic*Erasers are! Wow, took some stains right out of my sinks and scuffs off the walls.
Also-went to K*Mart and they had some cute summer things marked down to $2.99. I’m wearing the watermelon pink 3/4 length sleeve top with the hood and hand pouch as I type this. Really cute detail! I can wear about 3 different sizes, so that helps too. I buy larger if I think something may shrink in the wash. Watch for those sales!

Great find by mom

Standard

My mom likes to wonder around the local thrift shops. Sometimes she ‘hits’ on a great find for me-like this:
IMG_6082
An entire packet of DMC embroidery floss! (it’s missing some colors, but I’m not complaining). She wasn’t sure if it was DMC or not-she was going by the name of the holder thingie. I looked at it and thought how was I going to match this all up with DMC? Tonight I took a closer look and the previous owner had them all separated and I know the numbers well enough to know they ALL were indeed DMC. I even took out 738-saved me a trip to the store.
Thanks mom!

It was so nice today that I planted 5-7′ rows of fall crops. I’ve never done that before, so hoping I didn’t wait too long. I planted beets, arugula, spinach, radishes and lettuce. I’m waiting on the garlic bulbs to be shipped soon-they will go in a raised bed.

RIP Patrick Swayze. What a journey he was on these last few years. I feel especially bad as my step cousin was just diagnosed with the same kind of cancer. I adored Patrick in ‘Ghost’ and ‘Dirty Dancing’. I even like his one hit song-from ‘Dirty Dancing’-‘She’s Like The Wind’. His skit on ‘Saturday Night Live’ with Chris Farley was a classic-when they both were trying out to be Chippendale dancers. He will be missed.

Off to get my hair done tomorrow. I’m pushing for a lighter shade as my roots are horrible against the brown now. On Sunday we were down in my hometown to a town event (where I am going again tomorrow-vendors and food on State Street and yard sales around the town. I got some cute things I’ll share at the end of the week.
And Zoey-the mushroom cookie was delicious-it was a thick butter cookie that I had to split 3 ways! s like

Thursday Thunks

Standard

1. A 90 year old man’s dying wish in South Carolina was to be buried in his car. If you were told tomorrow you have 3 weeks to live, would you have any dying wishes or something special done before you died?
Do I want to jinx myself? I think not. And if I wanted to tell anyone, it would be my immediate family. Sorry.
2. Do you pay for more stuff using a credit/debit card or cold hard cash?
I prefer cash when I have it, but if I run into a sale, I may have to use the nasty cc.
3. What’s cuter- a baby lizard or a baby snake?
Definitely a lizard-it has legs to begin with. The heater guy was here today and was telling us he caught rattlesnakes in western Pa to ‘milk’ them when he was young. He’d sell that to the state for anti-venom. This all stemmed from a conversation about pets, mainly cats. He showed me his 3 in a photo in his wallet-ahhh.
4. You go out to eat by yourself at a restaurant. While waiting for your food do you people watch & ease drop on others conversations, read a book, use a laptop or chat with people around you?
Hmmm…probably read a book or magazine. I don’t usually eat by myself though
5. If you see someone walking around with toilet paper stuck to their shoe, do you tell them or just laugh?
It happened to me and it’s embarrassing, so I’d tell them.
6. You are talking to someone you just met but you can’t understand them at all because of their accent. Do you tell them you can’t understand them or just smile and nod?
Probably smile and nod and if it got to frustrating I’d raise up my hands like I was saying ‘no comprehend’.
7. Mudfest! Park filled with pools of mud and an obstacle course of mud. Do you go and play in the mud?
I was told I loved to play in mud as a toddler-as an adult-ugh! I just like to dig in it now.
8. Have you ever had a headache so bad it effected your vision?
Oh yes! Usually from a high fever-became delusional too.
9. Would you fit in more with the circus, Hollywood, Broadway, or comedy circuit types?
I’ll say Broadway because I can belt out a song, but I have a gnawing feeling in my gut that I could be a comedian.

Sean bought the Guitar Hero Beatle Rock*Band yesterday and it’s fun! The graphics are really nicely done too.

A little catch up

Standard

Not too much to post, but I wanted to update you about my mom and Sean.
Mom has to have another series of injections in her eyes as a further measure to save her eyesight because she had macular degeneration. They haven’t gotten better. I think at this point they are hoping they will stay the same. She said she’d be happy to have one good eye so she could read. That is breaking my heart. She wanted a netbook and the man at Target said no way would that be big enough for her with her poor eyesight. I got a new cellphone for myself (I had some gift cards from my Visa and it was free) and am giving her my almost new razor cellphone. She had one from my brother and lost the many chargers they bought her. I have to devise a plan so she won’t lose this one. I got a Samsung*Gravity with a little keyboard. So far it’s pretty neat. I should be texting more now.
Sean didn’t get the internship in Delaware. The guy hired the young lady who was interviewed at the same time. Maybe they didn’t need more than one person doing that work. Sean was bummed, but I am glad in a way as I didn’t want him using a lot of chemicals. The guy said there may be some openings down the road. He is waiting to hear from the Brandywine*River Museum for another internship.
Thought you’d like to know. Hope all is well.

Long weekend

Standard

Not much to post about-had Brian home for the holiday weekend. He dug up the part of the veggie patch where I want to add some salad stuff for the fall. Sean had his interview for the internship (it pays) on Friday and had to drive down to Delaware*City. He’ll hopefully get thumbs up today. He will be treating invasive species (plants) like poison ivy at the park in another area of Delaware.
I’ve been doing a little shopping here and there finding some good buys on Martha*Stewart things at Big*Lots. I actually went to two different stores as we went down to Dover, DE on Monday just to do something different. My favorite bookstore- Atlantic warehouse was having a buy 2 get 1 free-must have saved $30 or more! I bought about 3-4 things for my mom’s birthday coming up in a few weeks. We ate at Olive*Garden and I went in a few craft stores. You need a few days to go in all the stores down there. Also went into the town of Dover to find Wesley College, a small, but nice school amongst Dutch Colonels and other lovely homes. The public flowerbeds are kept so nice. There was a bed of burgundy dinner plate hibiscus-gorgeous, with red, white and purple petunias.
A few nights ago, I was doing one of those Facebook ‘5 things’ and they asked my nationalities. I put down Swedish, but my family always thought we were Danish (and may be). My cousin was going to open a furniture store (and may have already) and went over to Denmark. She looked in the phone book in Denmark and there were only a few Hasselbergs. She went to Sweden and that’s where they all were. She started a business which is still going strong and run by many of her children. I found the fan page for Dane*Decor on FB and scrolled down and found my cousin Drew there! He had contacted me about a blog entry a few years ago and so had his brother Jesse. I scrolled down to find a memorial group for Jesse. He had passed away from a heart attack last year to the day-he must have been only in his 50s. I was so upset to read this. So now Drew and I are friends on FB. Cool, huh?
Please keep my mom in your thoughts as she is getting her eyes photographed and checked to see if the injections she had over the last few months has slowed down the macular degeneration. She’s really scared. I’ll let you know.

Tidying

Standard

Over the last few days, I have been busy cleaning my living room or ‘parlor’ area. We rarely spend any time in there and I was starting to tuck my craft things in every nook and cranny (mostly in plastic sweater boxes). We are having our biannual visit from Father M. tomorrow and I thought I would sit him at the little settee in front of the fireplace. He can see my decorations and such there instead of making him sit on the hard bench (his choice always) in the family room. I have a few more tweaks to do, and then I’ll take a few photos.
This is something new I bought for fall decor:
IMG_5978
It’s an Anna*lee mouse dressed like a scarecrow. I thought it was an Indian in a previous post, but there were little Indians too. He is sitting in a ‘corn husker’ which was marked down to $5. Now this Home*Goods is a great store, but my new tablecloth- Jacquard is a second (you can see it in the photo). I wondered what was wrong with the edge and they had sewn on a piece to make it a complete circle! I should return it as the package wasn’t marked as a second, but it was only $10 and would be more trouble than it’s worth. I’ll turn it to the back and put the plastic back over it.
I have a few pieces of mail to ready for tomorrow. Have a great Sunday!
