This little guy was rescued by my brother #2. He must have had his heart on getting this 6 week old mixed terrier, because he got it without taking mom as she is still sick, but getting around. She renamed him Kelsey, his name had been Doppler(?!). I hope they have a good night!

A whole new year to ‘hope’ for good things to happen.

Not a lot going on. We still have our Christmas stuff up and keep it up until the 6th or so which is ‘Little Christmas’-Epiphany.
Friday we went over to Bri’s dad’s house and took up a few rugs that were on top of the wall to wall carpet-they were all bunched up. We took one for the dining room. It needs to be aired out and cleaned.
Having some tummy issues-I know I’ve been snacking at all hours this past week-not good for me. I swear by Activa and Equalactin. : )
After we left Bri’s dad’s house, we went to Chili’s Restaurant-not ideal food for me to be eating and then hit BJs Wholesale where Sean got stuff for taking back to school. My best buy there was 5 ink cartridges for my printer at $50-I saved $10 buying them pre-packaged. Bri was happy to get Perrier water.
Not sure what the weekend will bring. Hope everyone is warm and happy!
2008 in a nutshell by Dianne
Want to play along? Kelli over at ‘There is no place like home’ is hosting a meme. You take your first blog sentence for each month of 2008 and add a favorite photo from that month too. Be aware that most of my ‘first’ sentences have nothing to do with the photos. :O)

New Year’s Eve
Don’t forget to leave a comment to try and win my necklace above!
Not much going on…making more cookies as my nerves are bad.

Chocolate Cherry Cordials Thumbprint cookies (made with the same named Hershey Kisses-got half off at Wally World last night too) Tastes like little brownies with a hint of creamy cherry goodness.
Bri’s dad went out this morning to get his hair cut, didn’t call us and we thought the worse when we tried to call him for over an hour. Bri was on his way over there when he called us-finally. We got Bri on the cellphone before he got too far.
My mom woke me up this morning thinking I forgot to call her as her clock said 11 am and it was a bit after 9 am. Yikes!
We plan to get them both ‘Life Alerts’ soon. Too much worrying.
Bri is going to get me some Arbor Mist to toast in the new year. I sure need some!
Update-my Arbor Mist is chilling and Bri also got me some Peach Fuzzy Navel Wine cooler. : )
I had purchased two orchids from a Hawaiian seller at Longwood Gardens in March. One didn’t make it, but lookie here-one is blooming again!

Family gathering
My family had a get together tonight so we were all together (ALL brothers too) for a dinner and gift exchanging. I was happy my mom had all her kids and grandchildren together.
Here’s a photo of my 9.5 yr old niece and me:

and my mom and her oldest grandson, David age 23:

Last night I was wondering if my father-in-law was enjoying the steak dinner I sent over. He usually calls and thanks me for any food I send over. Right before Brian and Sean got back, he called not to thank me for any of the oodles of food I sent, but to say he almost choked on the steak! I felt terrible, but he must have put it in the microwave to reheat and made it tough. I wished I had sent it a bit under cooked now. Then I thought well maybe he shouldn’t have mentioned it because it was Christmas and he was okay. It ruined the rest of my evening. He does have these choking episodes once in a while, was probably starving as it was 7 pm or later. Yikes!

Please go check out the gorgeous home of Jessi-she must be a decorator for a magazine or something fabulous. I was blown away!
Cookie baking!

I finally got around to cookie baking. Not that I am finished by any means. I used the Butter ball (Russian Tea cakes) recipe from The Silver Palate cookbook. Now my oven is only two years old and I have to watch delicate foods like cookies. The recipe called for 35-40 minutes in a 300 oven. They were done in 15 minutes and got a bit too brown on the bottoms. It said it would make 36-no way. This is the recipe that the gourmet take-out place where I worked used all the time. Also made cookies with mini peanut butter cups-they turned out better! The recipe is similar to chocolate chips. Jennifer over at ‘Sweet Pea Stitches’ shared some yummy tried and true recipes, but I need some key ingredients to make them. I’ll do some more baking tomorrow, plus a ton of other things!

I liked the way this turned out:

I could mention a favorite food, etc. but I decided I’d show one of my favorite family photos that I also used for my Christmas card this year. The bigger girl is my maternal grandmom Ruth, who was cuter than this; her twin brothers William and Frank and little sister Edna. I know it was probably the 4th of July and my grandmom had just turned 8 or 9 the day before. Two of their siblings are missing-an older girl Ethel had passed away about 3 years earlier from pneumonia and little brother Albert wasn’t born yet. Ruth helped to raise me and my three brothers as my mom was a single parent. A friend who received this said it was her favorite Christmas card ever, which made my day!
I used music at the top as they were all musical, the boys later played in a band and Frank may have been in the Leo Reisman band in the soundtrack of ‘Paper Moon’. ‘Mom mom’ had a lovely voice and could play piano; I think Edna could play too.
John & Stefanie’s Wedding-Nov. 28, 2008

We had a nice evening, though eating dinner at around 9 was late, but we had delicious appetizers too. The actual ceremony was just the bride and groom reading their own vows to each other-very sweet. We sat with the groom’s three children, a bit younger than Sean. They were very nice, but the youngest girl was emotional seeing her dad remarry. The Faunbrook is really a lovely bed and breakfast. It was nice to see Bri’s family.

Ken’s awesome train board, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.
My younger brother Ken is amazing when it comes to putting things together. Not only did he redo most of his house, he has put together amazing train board lay-outs like this for years. His children, especially his son, love them. He could surely make a living doing this!
