Some collages to share

Peacock 4" x 4" Collage, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I really got busy today after I stuck my roast beef in the oven. I happen to pick the hardest of the trio to work on first, but not knowing what I was doing! ; ) I had gotten a Peacock trio last Saturday at the show and the blue embossed full one I made just didn’t work, so I stamped the head of a Peacock in white on green. It also came with a quote that I stamped around the middle design. The bird is on top of a clothing tag and that is a real Peacock feather. I found use for the full bird and cut it in half for an embellishment.
Then I did the little Brazilian girl from a 1940s book and added a few monkeys. I had started out with the brown map paper underneath.

Finally I used one of the Raphael stickers from a new Dover sticker book I got last weekend. That’s St. Catherine of Alexandria. I think with a few embellishments, it came out nicely.

Miniature display Vino, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This was taken in March of 2009 at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Every year there is a Miniature competition and this was one of the displays featuring ‘Vino’ or Wine. : ) I have other photos, but this is the clearest of the bunch. Amazingly lovely in it’s small size, don’t you think?
I like this one too, which was best of show.

Domestic Goddess II

Standard

Well of course I will do more than one domestic goddess collage! This was pretty easy as I had this gorgeous scrapbook paper with 4 different vintage style ladies and chose the lady with the blue ribbon. I gave her a crown and surrounded her with some dictionary definitions and called it a day.
Next was the remembrance ATC for a Facebook group I am in. ‘The Day of the Dead’ is celebrated in mainly Mexico and by many Latin Americans. I had a difficult time picking someone! I almost did Ben Franklin, but he’s been a subject of mine many times. I chose John Kennedy, Jr. as he was a bit younger than me and a week older than my brother. We sort of grew up together with Caroline-same hairstyles and clothes. When he passed at age 38, I had a hard time digesting that and still find it hard to believe he’s been gone over 11 yrs. He would have been 50 in November.

Then I found some sweet matted frames that my ATCs fit into. Only $1! I hope they get more in at the store.
Found frames for ATCs!
Yes, went out on a terrible rainy day to ship off packages. One was for eBay (have sold some stuff of Sean’s that he didn’t need) and an autumn exchange for a pal. I will show you what I made her when she tells me she got it. It cost more to ship than to make!
Tomorrow will be made up of howling wind. One reason I shipped things off today.

More Halloween fun and no more drip, drip, drip

Brian actually picked up the ‘Black Hat Society’ clipping yesterday from a pile that I found in a catalog and I used it today. Someone sent me the admit one tickets and the red sparkly embellishments are new.
Today, I went to wash clothes and a pipe from the kitchen sink was really leaking a lot into the basin under it. The thing is, it’s been leaking for months and months. We called a local company, they were here within an hour and it’s fixed, though my purse hurts, but it’s about time. We have another leak at times, the pipe from the toidy and that was $500 more,so me passed. They don’t just patch it, they replace the entire piece. The new stuff has a 2 year guarantee which is good. We’ve been gradually getting new pipes. We meant to ask him why the hot water pipe in the bathroom vibrates sometimes.
Of course the BIG NEWs was watching the Chilean miners getting rescued. What a joyous time. I didn’t know they had cots, etc. way down 1/2 mile under the ground. They really had it rough for days and the one fellow who is only 19 was so hungry, he dreamt of his mom bringing him food and cried. Heartbreaking.

Halloween fun!

I started to cut the square for this card from last night’s card and I took a double take. My cards were getting much larger than 4″ x 4″. I don’t know when that happened, but if I could cut off 1/2″ or less to get back to 4″ on a few of the ones I made in the last few weeks.
I try to do at least one duo with pointed hats each year for Halloween. I will probably do another few Halloween ones-remember I have 365 collages to do-minus about 45 now.
Then I made this postcard for a little girl with a brain tumor from Ohio. Reagyn is unselfishly running an effort to collect soda tabs that will help Ronald McDonald come to a big town’s hospital near her. I have her address (which is the school’s address) if you’d like to send her a postcard from where you live and tell her a little about your area. That’s all she asked for.

Today I made an item for a friend, it’s autumnal and I want to send it off before sharing it. It turned out so cute. Brian thinks I should be making lots of stuff like this to sell.
My mom went to the doctor and has a terrible allergy which she say she has seen a lot of lately. Mom’s blood pressure was a little bit high which concerned the doctor, but it may have been because of where she was or is stress related. She tends to jump to conclusions. It was like 156/73. Mom will be in the next town over to get her hearing aides adjusted but didn’t act like she would come over here. I hope she changes her mind.

It’s 10-10-10!

Alice 4" x 4" Collage Card, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I bet a gazillion blogs have started off with a title like that. : ) It’s pretty neat you have to admit.
I’ve been playing catch up on my collages. I made it a little easier on myself as the one half here was an ATC I made up in York, PA at the rubber stamp/craft show on Saturday. I was happy to get a chance to make something, though this was a cuppa tea for me. The lady whose booth this was must have been tired or something as she was a bit sarcastic. I think she was impressed by how I used the tall Alice here. I put the tag behind her head. I do like what I added to the side-the ‘Red Queen’ and the teapot and animals.
I made this next collage to represent the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire that we attended as well! It was really a spur of the moment thing to go. We had gone to Bube’s Brewery as a side trip as the guys left me off at the show for a few hours. They were told not to eat much, but got hoagies which spoiled their appetites to eat at Bube’s in Mount Joy. Rats. So we ventured down the road to the Faire and went in! Brian and I had been there in about 1984 or earlier and that’s the last time, so Sean got a treat as well. I will do a full post about it next. The stained glass is a embellishment piece. The fairy is a new stamp that’s been embossed. The background is the map to the faire grounds.

I survived the ‘monsoon’ of Sept. 30, 2010

Standard

What a night we had last night. It rained so much, we think the well over filled and it was like someone turned on a faucet next to the water pump. We must have baled 50 gallons of water from that area around 1:30 am-1:45 this morning! The flow would lessen when someone flushed the toilet. It did stop and we all fell into our beds. Because we kept up with the sweeping, etc. we probably saved having much more water to clean up today. Bri had to go get a wet vac this morning as our old one sprang a leak. What a blessing they are. And I am glad most of my things are stored in plastic bins, but I have to move items to make sure all is well. We are all very tired tonight.
I did go take a few photos around the yard. Look at this pretty rose that survived all the rainfall!
I swear the trees even look perkier from that massive drink!
Here is what needs to be cleaned up in the side yard, those prickly Chestnut tree burrs! Yikes. And then the leaves will be next. Bri said he can’t believe it’s the 24th year of cleaning them up.
Messy Chestnut Trees-a squirrel's paradise
And my card for today was made mostly from things that were sent my way. I made the hook from a paper clip.

Hope to hit a church flea market tomorrow as it’s only open until 2.

M is for Ma

Standard

I was trying to get a few things done around the house today and my collages had to wait until after dinner. Boy was I tired from our little outing last night! Mom said she got about 10 birthday cards which made her happy.
So this is my mom when she was about 14. It’s not the clearest photo, but there is something I like about it, maybe because she looks like her mom here. I was looking at a book I have called ‘Scraps’ and the ladies made a alphabet book using an old dictionary. I have an old one and they didn’t have the word ‘mom’ just ‘ma’-go figure!
The one for today is called ‘Sisters’. I’ve used the image of my Grandmom and her older sister before, but this is tinted a bit mauve. I love this photo as they both are so adorable. I didn’t get to know Ethel, the little girl on the right as she passed from pneumonia at age 7. The tree is a button.
