What’s wrong with this ATC?

Standard

And why do I have to do another one?
It was a Geisha girl theme and we were to add an Asian symbol and a fan-opps-I added the ‘pearl’. The problem, as someone commented on Flickr, was that the symbols I so carefully stamped and embossed are Chinese and of course Geisha girls are Japanese! Geez. And one of my favorite movies is ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’. I even carefully glued the gold thread around there. Back to work!

Lazy weekend…read, started a design as a birthday gift, but the future recipient is being a little nasty to me for some unknown reason. I call to see how she is and she asks what I want. I don’t think that’s nice. I bet you guessed who I mean.
Brian trimmed the hedges along the front of the house plus the forsythia near the road. Our hedges on the right were nibbled by deer during the big snow and now they are brown with a bit of green-like an Obama chia pet! (ha ha-and I’m not being unappropriate, there are Obama chia pets). : )

Wally World is giving Sean some lousy hours until 10-10:30 at night. He’s going to ask to only do that a few times a month. He doesn’t go in until 2:30, but still that time of night is very boring. He may have lead from his uncle-he needs to get that squared away.

Photo Hunt-Colorful

Colorful painted sidewalk, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is one of the colorful displays found at the Philadelphia Flower Show last year. The designs look a bit like Easter eggs, don’t they?

Pulling floss to make something for my mom for her upcoming 80th birthday next month. I think I can get it finished-just have to start it!

Happy Weekend to you All!

Sir Paul…it will be an honor!

Standard

The other night Brian was listening to CDs. That always helps to lighten his mood and he acts like his old self as he is relaxing and not worrying about anything. 9 out of 10 times he’ll put on some ‘Wings’ for me which he did that night. I then remembered that Sir Paul will be in Philly sometime in the future. I went online and it’s the 14th of this month. I asked if we could go and Brian said ‘YES’! Woo hoo! The good tickets are all gone, and we really couldn’t afford them anyway. The ones I got are extreme stage right, but not really high up. And if there are big screens, that will be neat too. And who is to say we won’t take a little walk to see him closer? I was just at the venue with my friend to see James Taylor and Carole King. The worse part will be the parking, but there is no Phillies game that night, so it should be better than the last time I was there.
Brian’s gone to most concerts over the years to see performers I like. The last time he went to one he really ‘got into’ was Hall & Oates in the early 80s (I love H&O too). I’m going to bring my camera in my purse again.
Talk about crossing something off your bucket list. Can’t wait! I had a hard time getting to sleep last night.
PS-My older brother Dave is a huge Beatles fan and has the same bass Paul is holding above.

Follow the stepping stones

Stepping stones to front door, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I like walking on these stones and need to get a few more as beyond them the ground is worn down to where the path ends (going the other way). I just mulched today near the brick sidewalk and it looks so much better. Two bags of mulch down, one to go, but my roses need a bag too.
Another very sticky day. I really mess with my sinuses going in and out of a cool house to the outside. It’s nice to cross some things off a list too! I’d like to do more inside now. We have a few a few pipes in the basement with leaks-just small ones, but they are 50 yrs old too. A friend on Facebook was telling me how he fixes his 80 yr old pipes.

Resting in fairyland

Resting in fairyland, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I wanted to take a few shots around the yard and Bri said, ‘let me take some of you’. Well, no make-up and little piggie tails don’t make a mature woman look that great. I did photoshop this. I’m sitting on my glider near the fairy garden.
It’s a bit stormy right now-lightning and a bit of rain. Tomorrow it is suppose to be in the mid 90s.

August arrives

Bushy Crepe Myrtle, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Some of our bushes are simply amazing this year-just look at the Crepe Myrtle! It’s blocking out my garden window! It wll be severely trimmed back (as will the equally bushy Butterfly bush) when the flowers fall off.
I’ve been really motivated doing things out in the yard as the humidity has been tolerable. I moved some pots around front to fill in spots left from the heavy weed whacking. Some of my ‘specialty’ plants are dying back too. One has a huge seed head on it and I am wondering what I should do with it. I wonder if I should plant some of the seeds in a few months?
I should be making pickles and relish from all the cucumbers we’ve been harvesting (at least 30)! I think I will at least make the frig pickles like I did last year. I do love relish on hamburgers and hot dogs though.
The mosquitoes are making me their dessert, or lunch or whatever-my poor legs-they are covered with bites! I do use Off! too.

Sean’s off tomorrow and we may take a drive down to see my mom.

In one of my Swap-bot.com swaps we were to make an Art Trading Card featuring a vintage movie. I choice ‘The Public Enemy’ a 1931 movie (now 79 years old) starring James Cagney and Jean Harlow. Jean only lived a few more years and was the Marilyn Monroe of her decade-she passed on at 28. I never liked James Cagney that much-always seemed angry or pi**ed off to me. ; )

We had low humidity on Friday so I got out the weed whacker and went to town on the jungle. The spool on the machine is missing it’s middle, so I have to see if Sears has any replacement spools in the store. I had to spot every 5-10 minutes to adjust the cord. What really made a difference was edging the brick sideway! The yard looks like it did in May again, not all over grown. That machine saves my back!
Have a great weekend!

Shaving Cream Paint Technique

Standard

A few weeks ago, a lady sent me a piece of paper that she said she had used ‘the shaving cream technique’ on. It was pretty and I wondered what she meant. Last week during a Live craft share on Facebook, one of the crafters showed us how to do it-so easy! You take some shaving cream, spread it either on a paper plate or in an aluminum pan (like an inch) and then add acrylic paint to. You squirt the paint on and swirl it around to make it interesting. I took some card stock and pressed it in the mixture. You then take an old credit card and scrap off the residue. I had some white spots, so I used the cc to add some more mixture and scrap it off again. I got some interesting designs and some looked like certain things to me-like the ‘mountain range’ the eagle is flying over and the island mountain. The triangle mountain shape was there and I colored it in with pastels and added a palm tree sticker. I plan to do this often-fun and relaxing! I cut mine to ATC size, but you could make greeting card backgrounds, etc.
