I love when things work together. The background card was sent to me and I had the little circle kicking around my desk for a while.
Worth Doing
Well this card is #32 and so far this project has been worth doing! I happen to need a plastic see-thru sweater box for some ‘other’ things and ran across some neat images like the man in the middle and the saying that I had been stashing away in it. I rubber stamped white on black with the neat pocket watch stamp (Michael’s). I was going to do Halloween ATCs and found the black paper was the correct size for the collages I am doing.
We found out that our cousin (Bri’s cousin’s daughter) has been gravely sick with a high fever and fluid around her pancreas and liver. Antibiotics don’t seem to be helping. I believe she had 3 MRIs today (Monday). She’s been in the hospital now 10 days. Keep Sierra in your thoughts and prayers. She’s only 22 and a student at Penn State.
We are getting rain, rain and more rain. I don’t mind it one bit! Sean is taking me to my hometown to get my hair done today. I promised him Chick-fila for dinner since he bought us a few items at the store Sunday. My cupboards are getting bare, so I need to do some food shopping one of these days.
And last but not least-congrats to the Phillies for winning their 4th National League championship in a row! Woo hoo! I got to go see them back in July.
Heavenly Rain
This collage is entitle ‘Heaven’, but we are also thankful for the rain that was falling a bit today and today which will continue for a few days as it’s been so dry here. I do have some outside things I need to start to put away-the many little gnomes and fairies to name a few. I plan to get a lidded plastic box for them this year!
I was looking through papers/stash as I needed the box they were in for my summer tchotchkes. I had sorted some in a plastic shoebox as a temporary thing and Mr. Cosmo Kitty knocked it off the little sofa and chipped and broke a few things off pieces, some which were new! He was being rambunctious this morning! So I did find some things for this collage-the music paper, the angel postcard and the butterfly wings that I had painted in already. I think she is truly angelic now!
My wild imagination
Had fun with this today. I was looking for mainly black, white and red and one thing lead to another. The lion is from a candy box. The little ‘coin’ was found in a bag of stuff I got at a yard sale. My story goes that my masked friend, Albert Schwartz wanted to be a circus performer, so he made himself the first ‘batman’! LOL
We didn’t do too much until the evening as it was in the high 80s-we watered a few things I was trying to save. We later went to church, dinner and then Big*Lots.
Photo Hunt-Natural
This was a part of the Christmas display at Longwood Gardens back in December and January. I believe these are all succulents in a diamond shape and it was hanging in the gray room. I appreciate living decorations like this too. Thinking about Christmas decorating yet?
M is for Ma
I was trying to get a few things done around the house today and my collages had to wait until after dinner. Boy was I tired from our little outing last night! Mom said she got about 10 birthday cards which made her happy.
So this is my mom when she was about 14. It’s not the clearest photo, but there is something I like about it, maybe because she looks like her mom here. I was looking at a book I have called ‘Scraps’ and the ladies made a alphabet book using an old dictionary. I have an old one and they didn’t have the word ‘mom’ just ‘ma’-go figure!
The one for today is called ‘Sisters’. I’ve used the image of my Grandmom and her older sister before, but this is tinted a bit mauve. I love this photo as they both are so adorable. I didn’t get to know Ethel, the little girl on the right as she passed from pneumonia at age 7. The tree is a button.
Mom in her tiara and sash at Harrah’s
I think she had a nice time at the casino. She only wore her tiara in the car and when we sat down in the buffet.
Brown Sugar Pound Cake Cupcakes
Made these for my mom’s birthday-Martha Stewart Cupcake cookbook. The icing is burnt butter icing which makes the cake! Yum (A baker has to taste her goods). Highly recommend!
Here is the link to the recipe (which I halved).
You’ve come a long way baby
My grandparents could not have picked the worst time to have child #2 as 1930 makes my mom a Depression baby. Her brother is 7 years older than her. I’ve heard all about what they would have to eat, like mashed potatoes on bread every night- times were indeed difficult. My mom was so sweet, her own maternal grandfather wanted to adopt her! She was a thin little girl and has never weighed much over 130 at her heaviest as an adult. Her parents would try to get her to drink milk and the glasses would get lined up on the table and she’d take one sip. She has never had a hearty appetite-well for junk food and chocolate maybe! : )
Mom has a lovely soprano singing voice and she sang in church and in school many times. I haven’t heard her sing lately though, it may have to do with her hearing issue. I’m wondering if we even have one recording of her beautiful voice!
Mom has always loved clothes too. She never bought full price and even wore thrift shop clothes, but always looked so ‘put together’ for work. When I was about 18 or so, I made her a salmon pink dress with white polka dots and she wore it a lot. I was so pleased to have made it for her.
She has a big, generous heart, maybe too generous for her own good sometimes. She so much rather give than receive (me too!). She enjoys travel, but just around these parts. When she was a young bride, she lived in San Francisco for the good part of a year but missed her family too much. She never went out west again.
I am so glad to be able to make her happy by taking her on trips or little outings and dinner. She feels like she may have missed out on things in her life. I feel she could have remarried if she really wanted to. She said she didn’t want to impose a step father on us, but maybe that is someone we all needed in our lives-a male figure besides her brother.
Life for mom at 80 isn’t a bed of roses, but as long as she has her sight and can read and watch tv, I think she’s pretty happy. And she loves her family in her own special way too.
Happy Birthday Mom!
Life is an Adventure
Wow, so busy today! I went to the sunflower field with Sean and a bit later went out looking for a few things for my mom so she has something to open for her birthday tomorrow. I got her the last ’80’ balloon at the shop and managed to find gifts at good ol’ Tuesday Morning.
I grabbed a rotisserie chicken at the store and after dinner made some Brown Sugar Pound Cake Cupcakes-need to ice them tomorrow. Mom isn’t a big cake person, but I think she’ll like these. I have some colored sugar to dress them up a bit.
I like how my collage came out. I knew a wanted to use a bird in the design and it all went together. Made half of it while watching the new shows on tv (at last!).
Sean has a cold and now my head feels stuffy. Drats, hope I don’t get it, but I am feeling funky right now. The temps jumped up to the high 80s after being cool for a few days. That may be the culprit. Crossing fingers.
