Such a pretty scene to capture with our first winter blanket of snow. This was taken by Brian.
Getting crafty during a snow event
We waited all day for the snow to get here. Sean talked himself out of going to work and called out, much to our disapproval when we heard what he had done. He of course lost a day’s pay. He’s worked hard there during this holiday season. I think he had visions of being stranded there as the weathermen made such a stink over this storm.
I wasn’t feeling too chipper, took a nap and then made some collages. I had to do 6 to catch up and got up to 4 but am not finished it yet.
I really like how my bride collage came out. I had pulled out the ‘stained glass’ background paper and then found the bride and went from there.
I also had pulled out a Valentine’s scrapbook page and used the bird one. I got a lot of use out of a Christmas card (from my stash)-the flower pot came from it:

Then I ran across this sweet girl on a sled and the verse in my ‘scrap’ box and thought they worked together too:

Hope things are cleaned up by tomorrow as Sean needs to get to work and Brian is spending the night at this dad’s house as he is having cataract surgery on Tuesday.
I’m pretty sick of cooking, but alas, I had to throw together something tonight-spaghetti, broccolini, black olives and fancy cheese. It was good, but needed a little more olive oil-too much pasta!
I’m dreaming of a hamburger-but not sure if I get that or not for dinner Monday, but just maybe!
Message in a bottle-part 2
I gave my niece one of the little bottles I made a few days ago and she liked it. She likes Ocean City, MD a lot (her family goes there every year).
Happy Holidays from Sean
He loves Christmas! He got me the calendar I enjoy from ‘The Farmer’s Almanac’, a pretty Thomas Kinkade mug and a gift I gave him a Shaker Weight-actually a dual gift for his dad and me. He’s taking his back.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Wow! Last night and today flew by so fast. Brian and I went to my mom’s last night and took a nice pasta dinner and then we went over to my brother and his family’s house for a little visit and my other brother and his family were there. My youngest nephew and his sister grow taller every time I see them! We brought my mom home with us (she’s had a rough time since losing her brother 2.5 weeks ago) and took her to midnight mass which she enjoyed. I cooked a lot today-a big breakfast of eggs, tator tots and bacon; Mexican pizzas (like Taco Bell for lunch) and a boneless prime rib for dinner with homemade French onion soup as an appetizer. Unfortunately everyone ran out the door after 7:00 tonight-Brian to see his dad and take him gifts and dinner and Sean to take my mom home as we are expecting a big snowstorm to hit tomorrow morning!
Mom came out here without her eye medicine or she could have stayed longer,so she really needed to get home to have that to use.
I got some lovely jewelry pieces from Brian involving quartz. I’ll have to model them for you when I don’t look half dead and have makeup on. : )
Hope you had a memorable Christmas.
My Cross stitch ornament tree
Gee, I’ll be needing a bigger one soon. I still haven’t assembled the ornament I made for this year (but started last year). I found a dog I was making for mom, but time is running out for that one too.
Message in a Bottle for Christmas
I got this idea from a book I purchased last night from Big*Lots. I have the series of books ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ and this was the 20th anniversary book (2007) for only $3.00. I had lots of the little bottles left from the wooden sticks and scent that came with these. I had the mylar paper and printed out the same message-can you read it? Two I had corks for, two I didn’t. I used a raised (beveled) sticker and glued tiny seashells on it. I think they are too cute. I bet someday Sean will have a tree with all seashells and starfish over it.
Still here, but doing some movin’ and shakin’
In other words, I am doing last minute stuff! Brian has some vacation days, so he took off Wednesday through next week (no quiet time for you-know-who)! He went to the doctor with me, but I made him stay in the waiting room. My blood pressure was what I was getting at home, so it’s creeping closer to the normal mark, but I still have to pop a pill a day. And he said my thyroid was a bit sluggish, but it felt fine. In March I will get more bloodwork to check that. In the meantime, I will do my exercises, take my kelp (for iodine) and watch what I eat. I never had issues with anything until I hit this age. If you wonder about your thyroid, I was reading in a book I bought at Big*Lots last night. It’s by Robin McGraw, Dr.*Phil’s wife and it’s called ‘What’s Age got to do with it?’ If you are my age, take your temperature under your arm before rising every day for 4 days (young woman have to do it on ‘certain’ days). If it’s a degree under normal (98.6), you probably have a sluggish thyroid.
Brian and I had fun shopping at the above store and Peebles. Got some great buys on little last minute gifts by Sarah*Payton home decor items. I may sneak out and get a couple of more.
So Brian and I were discussing my van and I think we are going to donate it charity (they take them even if they aren’t running), but mine had a few issues and we don’t want to spend the money to repair it. It’s been ‘almost’ a lemon for the almost 12 years we owned it. We had to get a new transmission when we first bought it, it had a funny noise near the tire area, etc. We will get a newer car for Brian and I will use his Taurus (that has issues) for 6 months or so and replace that. Cars are pains in the butt! I am sick of not having a car to jump in! Wish us luck as the ball will probably get rolling on this in the new year.
Happy New Year 2011 Giveaway!
I decided it would be fun to give away a book a month since I love them so much and like to share. For the new year, I am offering the ultimate domestic goddess cookbook by Martha*Stewart. I lifted the photo from another website, so please ignore the ‘look inside’

All you have to do is leave a comment here. If you have any resolutions, let me know. I have to get a bit more serious about exercise, etc. because of health concerns. (Taking medication daily for the first time in my life).
I will pick a winner in the middle of January, around the 15th. This time I will make you an Artist Trading card to go with cooking or maybe being a domestic goddess! Good luck-it’s a nice, big fat book (I own another copy of it).
Fly! Framed collage
This is what I made and sent to Michele, the winner of the December giveaway. I can’t believe I found frames that fit my pieces at the dollar store. If anyone happens to go in a dollar store and sees 4″x4″ frames, I will be so happy if you can pick them up for me and I will pay for them and shipping and handling (of course!)
There’s a darn bug in the house. Sean called out from work and has a slight fever, an early a.m. sore throat and some body aches. He is eating though. I feel a bit funky, but made 5 dozen more cookies. I will be making the peanut butter and chocolate swirls-not sure if tonight, probably tomorrow. I must have a bit of a bug in my tummy and my throat is a bit scratchy but I’m hanging in there. I also burnt one of my fingers right where it bends and I think I should let that rest. Good thing I am going to the doctor in a few days. Wish us well and stay healthy!
