Beatlemania!

Standard

Today I bought the deal to attend this:

I found it through Living Social. They could have fun deals in your area! If I can get three other people to buy the same deal-mine will be free! Wow, that would be nice. I sold a few gold necklaces that I will never wear and have more than enough to go to this for a few days with Brian. We really need it. Carole went to the Elvis event and influenced me greatly to go to this one. I hope it will be cooler near the harbor. It’s about 2 hours from here. I just love taking photos and this will be great. We have several Beatle t-shirts. We should take the Cruiser! : )

Beatles fans the world over Come Together for this Labor Day weekend tribute festival on the banks of National Harbor—and we’ve got you covered with a two-day reserved pass for two people, including one night at the Gaylord National Resort—just minutes from DC and Old Town Alexandria.

Zoey asked how I am liking my Kindle-I enjoy it very much! I’ve only downloaded freebies from Kindle though. I read two books on Kindle and then read two ‘hard copy’ novels as I have so many of them to read! It’s so portable and easy to charge by either plugging it in the wall or computer.

So a few days ago, I went to put something in Brian’s armoire and the stuffed contents of it fell out and I was peeved. It all was wrinkled and I think the 55 novelty shirts need laundering, but that’s too much work. I put some of his cologne on a tissue and stuck it in there. I found two packages of 5 new white shirts-in the front. It didn’t take long to do, and we got rid of lots of shirts and underwear. The socks are not put away as they need to be sorted. I remember doing that last year! Sean and I sort through all our clothes year in and year out. I didn’t show you ‘my’ armoire, but it’s stacked high with mostly tops-folded by color and the short sleeves are on one side and the sleeveless on the other. But I have a bad habit of piling clothes on the hope chest. I try to wear things a few times before laundering-that’s if I only wore them to dinner, not working in the yard. The yard clothes usually don’t get back in the bedroom until they are washed again. I have that tick phobia from having Lyme disease.
I went down to my hometown to get my hair done-I needed some highlights too. Didn’t the lights go out from a storm that went through! Needless to say, I have very blonde highlights! C. took me out back to cut my hair in the last of the daylight. No one said they liked my car or went to look at it. It would be nice if they showed an interest in my likes. Families can be that way.

Butterfly delight collage

I did a little crafting on Saturday and this was one of the things I worked on. I had gotten the butterfly punch last week. The cardboard butterfly was part of a book, so maybe this will be the cover-not sure (got in Michael’s in the $1 area).
Today I lounged under the Chestnut trees (all they are good for) and finished a book on Kindle so I could start another (over 400 pages). Brian found some Fantasy lilies down the hill and dug them up and we planted them in the lily bed along with a pale yellow lily I bought last week. We had grilled steak with mushroom gravy, mashed cauliflower along with Arugula, tomato, red pepper, tangerine and Paul Newman ginger sesame dressing. Yum. By the way, lost 9 pounds now!
Off to get my hair done tomorrow on the first solo trip in the Cruiser that far. The one tire still is losing air, but it’s really slow.

Black-eyed Susans

I guess these are probably classified as wildflowers. I added them to the iris garden as it needs a little life this time of year. I have those Dinner Plate hibiscus in the same bed, so they look like they may bloom too. Unfortunately, the deer like to munch them.
But as my pal Zoey said, things are so wild and droopy this time of year! Some of my flowers did hardly anything-impatiens for one. Too dry for so many of them. And I think the dirt in the fairy garden needs nutrients. I don’t really disturb it that much because I have Lily of the Valley and daffodils there, but I guess a little peat moss and top soil wouldn’t hurt for next year.
I promise to calm down about the car talk. I’m just having so much fun with it. Thank goodness for the internet as I’ve found some nice things for it too.
I may do a little crocheting today-found a book of little amulet bags and if I can ‘master’ them, I may have something to add to my etsy shop which hasn’t gone anywhere lately.
Keep cool!

Cruisin’ to Media

Dianne and her PT Cruiser, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Sean and I took ‘Ina’ to my hometown. He drove down and I drove home. My mom really liked her and since I got my new custom fit floor mats, it looks snazzy! So worth the money. We were only down for a few hours-went to a produce place (I try to go every few weeks), took mom for pizza and then to JoAnn’s. I wanted more scrapbook boxes for stuff I found in the family room. They have 70% off and Martha Stewart things also. Dangerous store!
It drove really nice! I haven’t seen the panel lit up at night yet.
Brian had to stop by my late uncle’s house (was sold) and pick up a few things my mom requested that she/we had gifted to him. Bri said it was hard to go over (on his way home from work). I remember when Sean and I went over a few summers ago to trim his hedges, etc. He came down with his walker and watched a bit. I know his inner self was probably wanting to pitch in as he kept his property like a park. Miss him so!

Micro harvesting!

Standard

Here are some pear and cherry tomatoes I picked from the herb patch along with some Stevia which is a natural sweetener. I don’t think I harvested it too soon as it’s quite bushy and it may fill out again. You dry it and ground it and also can make a liquid out when you boil it with water. No sugar!
I mostly stayed in today until I got something for the car-gold door pins!
New gold pin
And this too:
New keychain
And did this with the little car:
Mini cruiser keychain
Isn’t it pretty inside?

There are a few stains I can’t get out, so I’m glad I am getting floor mats and a cargo mat. I saw it was dirty over the driver’s head area and got some upholstery cleaner and it was! I ended up cleaning almost the entire inside roof (Bri helped a bit). The next thing is to get it inspected and I sure hope it’s fine. Sean needs his inspected too. That’s what happens when you buy a car in Delaware, though at some time they need inspection (I guess).
This afternoon and early evening we got some rain-finally! The town Brian works out of was flooded out tonight. Hope that is all good in the morning.
I again was tidying up papers-somehow I had a lot of neglected mail to go through.
Having family issues down in my hometown-I didn’t do anything! Mom is very upset about stuff-same as in the past.
I ‘may’ go to the thrift shop on Thursday with a table I used as my craft desk. Need to get it in the car! I wouldn’t mind more rain tonight or tomorrow-send it on!

Heirlooms of one kind or another

Standard

Brian saw this tomato last night and didn’t think it was ripe! I doubled checked the tag and it’s a heirloom Yellow Brandywine. We had it with our roast beef, smashed red potatoes, peach applesauce and zucchini for dinner. Very meaty!
Today, I decided to sort out more of my craft books (and other books), but first I tidied the books next to Brian’s chair. That man must have every Ford Mustang book ever written as the ones next to the chair were overflows from the bookcase. (Speaking of cars, Bri is really enjoying the PT Cruiser. He checks the tire and put Fit a Flat in it as it has a very slow leak). He’s so happy he found it on the internet for me.
So during my sorting, I found this:
Print of girls with lanterns
Framed Girls with lanterns print
I had ripped it out of an art book, found a pale pink mat mom had bought me and dug in the closet for a frame (with a Jamesway sticker on it, now Big Lots and must be 10 years old). I added the border to two sides of the print as white would show. I think it’s sweet.
Then these floral prints were leaning against my ‘paperbacks/novels basket’ (another job to sort). They use to be over the computer:
Flower prints over the sofa
So we hung them over the sofa!
I found some art items to play around with-Do you remember the ‘Country Diary of the Edwardian Lady’ nature book from the late 70s? I have a little book that teaches you how to draw nature art with colored pencils.

I try and share things of my own on ‘Pinterest’ and here is a bamboo salt box I bought last year at QVC that I love. I fill it with salt and pepper and it’s right next to the stove.
Two tone salt and pepper box
So….I am praying for some rain as many of use are. All the back breaking flower planting seems to be going to pot. So many things are drying up despite our efforts of keeping them watered every single day. The watering that seems to be paying off is with the veggie patch-it looks peppy. Yay.
Hope you all are getting relief from the heat.
