Want to play along? Kelli over at ‘There is no place like home’  is hosting a meme. You take your first blog sentence for each month of 2008 and add a favorite photo from that month too. Be aware that most of my ‘first’ sentences have nothing to do with the photos. :O)

Grant Park and a new beginning!

Standard

Some snaps off the tv on a grand night in Chicago! This wasn’t an easy thing as I think they jumped back and forth between cameras a million times.

I thought I put this in the collage:

Jesse Jackson is very moved by what he is witnessing. He’s standing next to Oprah Winfrey in a bright green outfit. : )

At a minute or two past 11 pm, est….the news guy (I think Charlie Gibson) said there will be children in the White House again!

Congrats President elect Obama!!! We have high hopes for you!

If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists – to protect them and to promote their common welfare – all else is lost.

We are not enemies, but friends…though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.- Nov.4, 2008

Here’s a cool interactive election map.

The most interesting campaign literature

Standard

I meant to share this a few days ago:
img_2753

Think it’s real or Memorex? Ugh!!!

This was addressed to me, the only woman in the house. It is McCain/Palin campaign literature. I will have to say that I felt it was an invasion of my voting privacy from the primary election and it cinched my vote today. Yes, I really admire Hillary. She’s up there with Shirley Chisholm, Geraldine Ferraro and Bella Abzug. I wrote a paper about Shirley in high school. If John Edwards had bowed out early because of his scandal, it may be a different election-IMHO.

One of the WordPress bloggers asked ‘who do you want to win’ and has 13,000 replies, many anti-Obama. Sorry the poorer Americans can’t get to a computer to have their say.

We went to Sean’s old elementary school to vote and thank goodness the ‘A-C’ line was short, I was about voter 745.  I noticed a guy I went to high school with in line, but couldn’t recall his name until he was finished. I vote straight party and the scanner always says I don’t have enough votes. The lady asked if I want to write in any names and I say no. Bri voted differently than Sean and me, said he was voting for his father too, since he isn’t well enough to vote this year. That’s one way to vote isn’t it? Go out and vote!

Obama takes Pennsylvania-a state McCain really needed.

Congrats to my friend Carole over at Pea’s Corner who is a first time grandmom as of yesterday! Her son and his wife welcomed little Lily into the world.

One final day of campaigning

Standard

Thank goodness.  We are so sick of ‘robocalls’, people knocking on our door, and the endless stream of campaign commercials. So very sick of it all. The person I was behind isn’t in the running, so I have to go with who I think is second best. I won’t be going to the polls after dinner tomorrow, as I’m not in the mood to stand in a long line. I’m going to try around 2 pm when people are at work. Bri said he isn’t going to wait forever, so that may be a wise thing for me to do.

I learned not to start up memes without some advertising. I have one friend who said she’ll do it next week (thanks Carole) and she has a huge following of bloggers. I think it will be fun to recommend books, movies, food, restaurants, etc. I have an archive tab above if you want to play today or whenever. Just link your blog in Mister Linky.

I went with Bri to see his dad yesterday. He seems so much better, yet a little more feeble. He’s still feisty and wants things his way in his house. That’s how my Uncle Don is too (they are the same age). I do think he should get someone in to clean a few times a month. Uncle Don at least has that and through an agency it isn’t that pricey. We got Bri’s dad a Boston Market dinner and then left to stop in our favorite big book store and go to Carrabba’s for dinner. They must have given me enough pasta for 3 people! I have some grilled chicken and pasta for lunch today!

Waiting on the mamm report. This time last year I heard about this many days later that I had to come back. I hope I just get something in the mail.

Update~ My mamm report came in the mail today and it was normal! Thank goodness. I hope this encourages you all to get checked out.

I’m also going to a new GI doctor on Friday just to discuss things with him. He’s suppose to be one of the best on the main line (of Philly). I feel I have hormonal imbalance (age related?)and food allergies. I don’t know what they do-I’m thinking more blood tests or that allergy patch test. Crossing fingers it won’t be anything more complex. I want to feel more like my old self as I’m sure I’ll have to get a job one of these days to help out. Our heating oil monthly payment went from $144 to $236! Isn’t that terrible?

Have a good week ahead. I’m anxious to hear about how you all make out at the polls.

I have to add a video link to this hysterical Saturday Night skit about a self help ‘video’ about putting more fire in your marriage. It’s a bit risque, but we never laughed so hard in a while! I figure people my age will get a kick out of it.

Fish house display, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is from the Philadelphia Flower Show 2006. I don’t think I’ve used it before, but it’s a popular shot of mine that I am fond of too. It’s on Cafepress and a pal requested it on a long sleeved t-shirt. It looks awesome!

I call it ‘Fish House’ as the little window indeed is a fish tank.

Here are newer shots featuring blue:

From last night, a snap of my dear niece and me at her house:

She’s a hippie chick and Bri called me a rejected Munchkin! You don’t see my black and orange striped socks and Mary Janes.  I also have a ton of makeup on.  I dressed up mainly for my mom as she seemed to need a little Halloween spirit.

A scene from the Phillies parade off the tv. I heard there were maybe 3 million people there!

Celebrating after 28 yrs!, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

So we had to wait a few days to finish off game 5-so worth it!
Congrats Phils!!! Most valuable player is pitcher 24 yr old Cole Hamels. It’s been awesome watching the interviews and trying to catch some photos off the tv. We hopped around to about 4 stations.
The big victory parade is Friday at noon. Think I’ll take photos off the tv again. I’m sure there will be personal appearances in the near future.

The Billy Penn curse is over!

The curse of Billy Penn?

Standard

Or things happen for a reason?

The weather in this neck of the woods is certainly frightful today for a baseball game (39 degrees and pouring rain). The Phillies were winning 2-1 until the top of the 6th inning and Tampa Bay’s Upton came along and tied it up! The game was then delayed…until…3 am? tomorrow? Wednesday in Tampa Bay? I bet it will be Wednesday. The local news people are saying things happen for a reason…we’ll see.

And the curse of Billy Penn-Bri reminded me and then the newscaster repeated it. Ever since skyscrapers were built taller than the statue of William Penn on top of City Hall in Philly, the major sports team haven’t won a championship. We’ll see…
Update-11:22 pm-the game was suspended. AHHHHH!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Off for the mammogram tomorrow in that lovely cold and windy weather. Crossing fingers.
Bleary-eyed
Standard
Because of the torrential downpour we had around 6 pm last night, the 3rd game of the World Series was postponed until after 10 pm. It was a pretty good game with the Phillies pulling off the win (5-4) about 1:50am. I just about stayed up to watch it.
Sean just left around 12:30. First he is stopping to see his grandfather, then he will head back to school. He has a ticket for comedian Lewis Black’s show (on campus) at 7:30. The three of us went to see him a couple of years ago at another university-he is sarcastic and funny rolled into one.
Back to the rain-we had just gotten out of church and couldn’t decide where to eat when the heavens opened up! We drove through some terribly big ‘puddles’ in town, almost big enough to stall out the car. We went to BK. The place was almost empty and our burgers were lukewarm. The a/c was blasting in there-may have accounted for the cold food. We should have complained. After ‘dinner’ we ran over to Wal*mart so Bri could get his dad a tv-a 32″ RCA as he has enough money and it was the right size.
We all got up feeling funky and bleary-eyed. The guys are over pop-pops and I am hanging low here trying to get my act together.
GO PHILLIES!
This is the Philly Phanatic:
Update-
I was so whacked out today, it wasn’t funny! Dang BK, but Bri brought me home McD’s chicken sandwich (am I brave?) and I was ok with that. I think I was hungry by then. I also get in a stew when I know Sean has that long trip ahead of him. He made out fine and enjoyed the show.
The Phillies are playing great and winning 8-2 so far in the bottom of the 8th. I get nervous and have to do something else instead of watch. Here’s something interesting-some of the ashes of the late Phillies relief pitcher Tug McGraw
were scattered on the pitching mound last night by his sons Tim and Mark. Tug’s # was 45 and the winning pitcher Jamie Moyer is 45 yrs old.  Jamie was really sick with a stomach bug and played anyway. Darn tummy bugs!! I got choked up when I heard about Tug (thanks John Clarke) as I had met him after the 1980 World’s Series and got his autograph. He lived in my hometown for a number of years. (The photo is of Tug recreated his winning pitch at the closing ceremony of Vet’s Stadium in Philly. He would pass away 4 months later).
What! another homerun-Ryan Howard appears to be out of his slump-10 to 2!! We won! 3 games to one! Looking good! I hope it stays that way!
