Roadview of Allegheny Mts, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I could have showed our snow covered road from a few years back, but I remember I took this on the way home from State College last year-through the windshield. It’s to remind me that Sean is between mountains and over a river away from home.

I did this last year. A few friends and I were photoshopping photos for fun!

Missing Sean

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the way, the tech didn’t show up for the 3rd time and we were going to let him in at 9 pm to do the conversion on the tv. He didn’t even call to say he wasn’t coming. I can’t get over the sucky service. Dishnet better get some better subcontractors! It’s going to be either tomorrow morning-not holding my breath as I still have to call or Monday morning. Complete idiots. Go elsewhere people!
Atlantic City & attractions 2008
Here’s a mosaic from our trip-view the large one at the above link or go to the slideshow of the set here. Unfortunately, some of the photos were cut off a bit. Sunday-we basically just stayed around the hotel and went to the mall for dinner. Monday we went to the beach after having the hotel’s breakfast buffet. While we were on the beach, we heard the roar of planes coming very close, almost like one was going to crash in the ocean! Here is was the USAF Thunderbirds flying team practicing for their show today. It was neat at first, but after 45 minutes, it was a bit loud. That night we went to the outlet shops near by and bought a few clothes items (that’s basically all there was). Sean bought me a candle as he was getting a bit short with me about things. I couldn’t help it if ‘Aunt Flo’ decided to visit me during the trip. To prove that I could do it, I climbed the Absecon lighthouse as described below-ouch! The front of my thighs are complaining! After we left there, we headed to Margate where Lucy the Elephant is located. It’s over 100 years and a mascot for the area. You can go up in her, but I just couldn’t do the climbing again. We found a excellent deli (Downbeach) and we all loved what we had-mom said it was the best pastrami she has had for a long time. We decided to stop at Smithville, a quaint little shopping area on the way home. We hadn’t been there for a while, and it doesn’t change much. I bought a tiny hummingbird feeder from a store that sold all bird related things (that’s what they basically were-all Ireland, all angels, etc). to put in the window where my craft table is.
I haven’t felt that tired for a long time when we got home and it took me a few hours to fall asleep, but I stayed asleep for a solid 4-5 hours which is good for me. Mom or I haven’t done that kind of walking for ages. I’m really happy that she did so well in that aspect. Sleeping there was another story.
Oh, and Cosmo was glad to see us and not too stand-offish. He seems really tired, I guess he was pining after me!
Very tired
Here’s why (did it just today)-
Don’t know if you can see where it says ‘228 steps-one amazing journey’. I was totally zonked. But look at this neat photo of the lens at the top:
And my red van looked so small from 169 feet up:
I had my almost 22 yr old son prompting me to keep going, felt like a lady in labor! There were six landings to rest on-how ingenious. My legs were like noodles near the top and at the bottom and I was totally sweating and my heart was beating like crazy. Guess I can cross another one off the list on things I wanted to do!
The doorway to ‘heaven’. The stairs looked like that the entire way up.
But what a view! That’s Brigantine from the top of the lighthouse. You stand in a cage. I felt a little funny up that high.
We had a good time, had some great food, nice beach time and weather and saw some neat things! Will tell you more tomorrow. It’s good to be home!
Update- 8:11
Mom and I are in the gorgeous room at Caesar’s relaxing. I’m through for the night as is she. The guys went to play miniature golf. We’ve been here since about 12:30 (we got here in no time and used Sean’s new GPS system which is really neat-wish we had gotten one at that low price) and met Bri’s dad in a nice restaurant for lunch. We didn’t go on the beach yet, just looked around the rather expensive/high end new mall. One store, all Victorian style things, had stickers-the kind I use for my crafts-$25 for the little package! Are they kidding? We had a gift card and used it in a candy store.  Bought some salt water taffy for one thing for my blogger anniversary give away!’
The room is really for handicapped, but it’s really big-like a small apartment- a sofa, ottoman plus a table and two chairs(and a huge bathroom). I took photos. I hope we can sleep ok though.
We ate in an Irish pub style restaurant in the new mall I had chicken pot pie, Mom had pork tenderloin stuffed wih apricot,  Bri had fish and chips and Sean had salmon.
We lost moola. I won’t be playing anymore. Sean did win about $12 and I think that Bri and Sean won $30 and split it.
Guess we’ll go to the beach tomorrow. I’m on the internet as it’s costing $13 a day and I might as well get my money’s worth.
We’re off for a few days to the glitzy shores of Atlantic City until late Tuesday. We were a little late getting stuff together as we got our portrait taken for the church directory early on Saturday. It turned out okay, but the guy took an excellent shot of Sean by himself which you’ll see in a month or so. Think I’m saving the other portraits for Christmas gifts. We bought a package  with unframed prints. The photographer wasn’t much older than Sean and an English chap. He hardly let us settle in at all and ‘click’ went the camera. My eyes were closed in the first one. The last photo he took, the one we liked of Sean so much, well he made him say something silly. I had asked if he was going to let us say ‘cheese’ so we have time to pose. Some people are in a rush and there was no one waiting their turn.
Anyway, here’s one I took of Sean for a cute frame I bought that matches my Woodland Walk sampler:
I’ll share the framed piece soon.
Take care!
Just a few more days
Until Mom and me get to see something different…and we sure need it! (Bri and Sean have been down to that beach already). Mom was at my uncle’s house running around for him yesterday and today. I was trying to assemble bags of ‘must haves’-Tylenol, hard candy, Rolaids, snack stuff and finally my clothes. I decided to try some hard candy that I haven’t had for a while. While letting it melt in my mouth, I felt something hard in my mouth and here another gumline filling chipped off. It was right next to the one I had repaired a few weeks ago. I think when the dentist cut some of the gum away, it bothered that filling. I called and the office was closed. I left a hurried message and then went on their website to schedule an appt for next week. About an hour later, Dr. P. called and said he could put a temp fix on it. I ran down and he was the only one there and I was in and out quickly. I went to the drug store to get the filling stuff to take with me. What the dentist put in my mouth only lasted a few hours, so it was kinda of wasted trip. He told me about the stuff in the drug store over the phone.
Not much else is new. I am still sorting my craft stuff and my craft space is a bit of a mess again. I have a new swap to work on involving using The Wizard of Oz as a theme. Can you believe that movie will be 70 years old next year?
I also won a ‘door prize’ from an online site (will post link)! I won a cute snowman by Flora.
Not sure about the chiropractor. Not only is it expensive, but my tummy muscles were very stressed and sore today. They have been really touchy to begin with this summer. I will say my neck is better and so are my sinuses. Think I’ll still look into a massage therapist.
Snap, crackle and pop!
Standard
I did hear some of the above noises today at the chiropractor! My neck cracked really well. He pressed on my spine and that was uncomfortable. Then I laid on a table that vibrated mostly my butt area for a few minutes. I told he I had a chair massager pad that I should use more. Our insurance won’t cover these visits, so I have to figure out what to do (they take the same credit plan as the dentist, but I’m kinda saving that for extreme bills from them). I guess I can go a few times a month. I’m going tomorrow too. I think my neck feels a bit looser.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I won a big box of ephemera from eBay to scan and use in my art projects. What fun it is to look through old photos and cards! It can be sad too as the photos are unmarked. I am not saving all of them. I bought the lot mostly for the really old photos. I have seen just one on sale for $4 and I got 11 pounds of goods for around $10. I love this hobby! There is so much history involved-the clothing, the cars, the scenery and towns.

Here’s ‘sort of’ any oldie I found in my craft desk. It’s me at my Communion/Confirmation back in about 1983 with my grandmom Ruth and my mom Jeanne.

I know who I am getting a bod like. This has a few spots on it. And my mom is the height of my grandmom now-I am taller than her! I think my grandmom was about 80 here and mom is almost 78 now.

Thanks to Jennifer for mentioning the Absecon Lighthouse. Think we’ll go there. Sounds great. I love gift shops too. ; )

Hail Caesar!

Standard

For our mini, last of the summer, before Sean goes back to PSU vacation, we are going to Atlantic City for a couple of days and staying at Caesars! Many of you know, my father-in-law takes the bus down there weekly. I was getting tired of the ho-hum (but peaceful) last few places we’ve gone. I sit on the beach and that’s about it. At least there is more stuff to see and do here. We could only get a Sunday through Tuesday reservation. Bri’s dad has rewards, so that saved up tremendously on the room- a big thing. We are taking my mom. Even if she can’t walk around a lot, she can certainly see something different right in the casino. The beach is nicer too, so Sean says from his excursion last weekend. I’m not a gambler. I’ll play a little, but I keep thinking-gee with that $20 I could have gotten lots of stuff at Michael’s Craft store. : )

Not much else is new. I can’t do much outside because of the heat and humidity. The grass is drying up. The weeds are taking over. I don’t care right now. I’ve been making ATCs to keep me busy. Also been running out every night to water things I can’t enjoy during the day. Sean and Bri help a bit with that. I should be cleaning, but that’s too much work in the heat, even when you have air, you still get hot, especially at my age.

I may be going out with Sean in a few hours to do a little of shopping. His friends are all tied up doing other things, so he relies on me sometimes. I don’t mind one bit.

A couple of my new ATC-homage to historic figures:

And this Stargazer lily, which is in a pot, smells delightful!

A metal structure from the recent Philadelphia Flower Show. That big leaf looks like he is being modest and hiding behind it!

And one of the most famous structures in Orlando, Florida-

The Epcot sphere. That’s Sean giving the thumbs up. We weren’t planning on doing Disney (just Universal) back in ’05, but decided to go on Mother’s Day. I could have had my legs fall off that night and wouldn’t have known it!

I’m the 3rd comment on Martha Stewart’s blog-woo hoo!

Congrats on 500 fabulous shows! I really enjoyed your photos too. Thanks for inspiring a domestic goddess in mushroom country of PA!

Just a little tease

Standard

It’s been a long day. We didn’t get moving until 1 to get my mom and grab the 2:17 train to the city. I know, it’s a late start. Daylight savings messed with our sleep a bit. The flower show was on until 6 anyway. I think if the four of us go on a Sunday again, we should eat a big lunch and then go. We ate a big breakfast, grabbed a pretzel and nachos at the adjoining mall as a snack and then walked the walk, though mom was in a rented wheelchair. We always manage to miss something. I heard a woman say she loved the bayou with the steam. Well, we didn’t see that, yet Brian saw a photo of the exhibit on flickr. I shouldn’t complain as I took over 100 photos and did a video too! I haven’t uploaded or edited the video yet, but will tomorrow. However, here are some of my favorite people and some broad in beat up pink sneakers. : )

On the rails
It was nice to have my guys along. Here’s the inside of the train on the 35 minute trip to the city. It takes us 45-55 minutes just to get to mom’s house first.
Sean and Mom

The guys took turns pushing mom around and helping her take photos. At the end, she ditched the wheelchair and walked around to see if she got to see everything!

The guys under an arch

Did I mention the theme was New Orleans?

Me at the flower show

I don’t wear sneaks a lot, but I had to today with all the walking we did. I know my ankle boots would look so much better, but it was comfort over looks here! I saw a young woman go in the show in about 3″ spike heels-she’s crazy! I am at least wearing my new glasses. This exhibit had lights pointing down (see the foot marks) so you could stand under the exhibit. Bri didn’t get he was suppose to take a shot of what was over my head along with me! But I am standing in the wrong direction too!

And for Zoey, our friendly blogger tablescaper:

Pink and Orange

This was a hot pink mylar like rug!

and this too:

Orchids and lights

Plastic or paper lights and tons of orchids. The other tablescape will be on my slideshow that I’ll put together later.

We went to Carrabbas Italian restaurant when we got back to mom’s area and enjoyed a nice dinner there. I guess I’m glad I went. I just love using that camera so much, but I like spending time with my family the best!

Photo Hunt-Classic

At the end of June this year, my family and I were invited to a wedding in NYC. We did get to sightsee a bit and even attended Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. I think this is a unusual classic structure in the heart of a modern city.
