White star wine bottles, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Time does march on……
These bottles were found on the White Star shipwreck the S.S. Republic. They still sealed and contained wine and were being tested to see if they were still drinkable.

The RMS Republic was the pride of the White Star Steamship Company prior to the
building of the R.M.S. Titanic in 1912. The ship foundered at sea 50 miles south of
Nantucket Island on January 24, 1909.

If you like exhibits, especially FREE ones, stop by the Shipwreck Museum in Fenwick Island, Delaware. They change their exhibits all the time.

Now you don’t see a sign like this all the time. Check out my post below for a similar sign near the lake at Longwood Gardens.

TNChick does the Photo Hunt every week and her beagle hound Zoey is missing from the Tennessee area. Last seen Tuesday April 22.
(4 year old, female, spayed, tri-color, was/is wearing a black harness)
contact TNChick via email PLEASE.
Her email is blog (at) tnchick (dot) com.

Zoey has been located and is home ! 4/28  : )

Tip toe through the tulips part 2

Standard

I did get to Longwood Gardens this afternoon! What a site to behold! The tulips, snapdragons, Painted Daisies, Columbine, etc, etc are fabulous. Here is the link to my Flickr slideshow. I sure hope heaven looks like this:

And these sea of white, which I got to see planted last fall:

Bulbs ready to plant

And I never venture that much to the lake part, and it’s so serene. (Something in this shot will be my Photo Hunt tomorrow!)

At the one end are the Italian Water Gardens, but I didn’t photograph them today because I was looking for this:

One of the new tree houses! I did go inside, but didn’t shrink down the photos, but watch for them in my Flickr sideshow. It’s all wood and pretty diamond style lattice windows.

Then I was looking for the other tree house and felt very small and alone:

This is the meadow and you aren’t seeing the entire area!

So I had a nice work out because the other tree house was down the path more. I didn’t add photos of it because they are rather dark.

I will leave you with some Columbine that was planted around a fountain:

I did buy some seeds, a drawing book and some Brandywine potpourri!

Scenes from the front door

Standard

Late this afternoon, I was getting ready to run down to the grocery store to get a few items. I heard terrible thumping on the roof and heavy rain and opened the front door to find hail!

It was really pouring! I was hoping the bleeding hearts seen here were still intact.

And for the heck of it, I took a photo of the pond out the dining room window. Not much happening there and this shot makes it look tiny-there’s a little waterfall piece at the top there. We need to build up the sides a bit as they are collapsing on us. Next shot will be the pond at night as the lights look neat-like a little landing strip, so Bri says! I even have a floating ball that lights up at night.

Tip toe through the tulips

Standard

I was telling my other pals that I wanted to ‘dance in the street’ because of my good report on Wed, but that was too dangerous! So I was more than happy to tip toe through the tulips and brought my camera along….

Bleeding heart-I have 4 plants in my front garden, but this one on the corner really took off. It’s one of the neatest plants ever! My mom has a white one blooming.

This is the scented viburnum. It’s loaded this year.

Close up of a pink hyacinth

and finally…the giant, double tulips! The deer munched on them last year! Sadly, the allium, also in this garden is gone!

I cleaned out my front bed under the big evergreen. Not a lot to see, but I did add some Johnny Jump-ups my mom gave me.

I was outside a good 2.5 hours. Tomorrow it will be pushing 80 here! That’s kind of warm for April.

I guess you all have seen these plastic twisty things that spin in the wind. I originally hung up a few to deter squirrels from the bird feeder. Didn’t work. I stopped adding bird food to the feeder, but continued to add twisters as this evergreen is getting rather bare there. It looks a bit like the bottle trees with a new twist! And as my friend said in comments, they are about $1 each at the Dollar Store. They look neater in person I think.

Another good reason to visit Longwood Gardens frequently:

This is the fairly new Children’s garden at Longwood Gardens. There are water features at every corner (see my video on the right). I love this sunny stained glass window. I didn’t know it had the two little red chairs under it (as I only saw it from the other side the last time I was here)!

WordPress just changed everything around! So I have to learn it again!
