St Patrick’s Cathedral NYC, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Back in June, 07 we attended a wedding on a cruise ship on the Hudson River off of NYC. We had time to do sightseeing and went to mass on Sunday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Talk about a step back in time! And this is such a massive structure in the confides of a tight city space. Modernization has crept up around this grand church. It was amazing to go into the church.

Mystic Seaport CT, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

My husband and I went on a week long driving trip to New England back in the fall of 1984. We were newlyweds back then. We slept in a different place almost every night-no internet to make reservations-just stopping at some of the places and hoping they had a room. We had pretty good luck. We stayed here in Mystic, Conn the first night. This is the harbor there and we went on the large ship. We drove mainly along the ocean towns, Hyannisport, MA, Plymouth, MA, Newport RI and finally Provincetown, RI.

I have taken long car trips before-back in 1977, after I graduated from high school, my family of 5 (minus oldest brother) drove to Daytona Beach, Fl. I wish I could remember the different towns we stopped in. Perhaps I wrote them down somewhere.

Longwood Gardens to the rescue again! This is their awesome train display they’ve been putting up every autumn for the kiddos (and adults too). How cute is the twig bridge? The entire layout is so nicely constructed-they even a have ‘naturally’ made conservatory and other landmarks of the gardens.

My brother rescued this furry little guy a few weeks ago to give to our mom. His name is Kelsey (this is a bit photoshopped to fix his eyes and make it more interesting) and he’s about 2.5 months old and a terrier mix. Today I saw him chase his tail!
I hope he gets trained better as I also stepped in a few ‘mistakes’. I was down to take my mom to the doctor as she had a sore throat which turned out to be thrush-yeck!

The Shipwreck museum, in Fenwick Island, DE is a stop for us almost every time we are at the beach in that surrounding area. It’s on the 2nd floor of Seashell City. What’s neat is that if I went there tomorrow, the displays may be different than they were when I took this photo a little over a year ago. Here are some children’s dishes found on a wreck. The one in the front is broken and chipped, but most in this display case were in good condition after being discovered almost 100 yrs after the ship went down in the Delaware Bay area from a fire. The name of the ship was unknown, so this was known as ‘The China Wreck’.

Hit a humongous book sale yesterday-twice! I went by myself the first time. I mainly look for books that I can cut up for my art collages. They had 55,000 books, yet this lady was trying to charge me 50¢ each for cross stitch leaflets. I did get a pile of leaflets that were tied up for $1.00. I took my chance and inside were about 10 of The Prairie Schooler leaflets and I didn’t have a couple of them! The rest will go on eBay. I did get other leaflets like P Buckley Moss designs. Bri found a goodie I will offer as a giveaway-a thread sample fold out book of all the DMC colors! Heck, if you’d like it, leave a comment here and I’ll pick a name on Sunday night. Please state you’d like a chance of winning the DMC board book.

These are a small sampling of my son Sean’s 30+ caps. I know he has a bunch of them up at school too. The only sports team he is missing is the Flyers-got to resolve that. (and since he’s been gone a week now-up to PSU, it makes me think of him).
Of course we are pulling for the Eagles to win against the Cardinals, which they have done before on Thanksgiving. This may be the year-who knows? Go Eagles!

Happy Birthday to Ben Franklin too!

A bonsai forest, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Since ‘aftermath’ means-results, this is what I stopped on when I was going through my recent photos. Now Bonsai is definitely an art form and is achieved from the results of careful and tedious trimming and training of a variety of trees and bushes. I would say these are a white birch maybe? I didn’t get the name. These were under two feet tall. They don’t have their leaves as it’s the wintertime. I saw a photo on the web of it in full green tiny leaf that I can’t seem to share here. There were other fine examples of Bonsai here at Longwood Gardens. These are usually decades old.

A whole new year to ‘hope’ for good things to happen.

Not a lot going on. We still have our Christmas stuff up and keep it up until the 6th or so which is ‘Little Christmas’-Epiphany.
Friday we went over to Bri’s dad’s house and took up a few rugs that were on top of the wall to wall carpet-they were all bunched up. We took one for the dining room. It needs to be aired out and cleaned.
Having some tummy issues-I know I’ve been snacking at all hours this past week-not good for me. I swear by Activa and Equalactin. : )
After we left Bri’s dad’s house, we went to Chili’s Restaurant-not ideal food for me to be eating and then hit BJs Wholesale where Sean got stuff for taking back to school. My best buy there was 5 ink cartridges for my printer at $50-I saved $10 buying them pre-packaged. Bri was happy to get Perrier water.
Not sure what the weekend will bring. Hope everyone is warm and happy!
