This is my mom’s birthday last year and my youngest brother is giving her the cupcakes that I made to blow out the candles. I like the way he is looking at her here.

My brother is a master mechanic and has permanently stained arms, not really dirty ones. ; )

and for the 23rds hunt Wooden (I am late, didn’t feel much like doing it as I heard my estranged father had passed on).
Sean’s clipboard

This is my son’s clipboard with beautiful inlaid wood that he doesn’t use. I was looking through papers in his room and came across this a few weeks ago. He had received it as a gift.

Photo Hunt-Free

This image is a part of my memory forever. I love how Brian, my husband, still goes swimming. I love when he ‘dives’ in and then I see his head pop up, matting all his curly hair down on his head. My son isn’t a swimmer (not that his parents are), but he’ll take a dip. It’s the freedom of vacation. A bird out of a cage. The vast Atlantic ocean in front of you. (Fenwick Island, DE)

Plymouth Rock

Wow that was a difficult hunt! I could show you a building or an elephant and say they are heavy, but I didn’t have an elephant photo. Instead, I present to you Plymouth Rock in Plymouth, Mass (the links photo looks just like mine). I figured not a lot of people have seen it. It’s a big rock, much bigger than how it looks here, so I figure it’s heavy also. When my husband and I saw it back in 1984, it was on the beach and under a marble shelter. It’s probably the marker for the exact spot where the Pilgrims landed.

I am also reminded of the song (since I just saw it in a journal I wrote back in 1979) that ‘he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’. I have 3 brothers.

Here my boy Cosmo is making a narrow escape from under the narrow underneath of the sofa! This shot is over a year old and we haven’t seen him go under there lately (to lay near the heat duct and hide) as he may be too chunky now. There’s a heat duct that is more accessible in the remodeled kitchen and has a catnip mat in front of it. He’s not dumb!
A narrow escape
This photo is of the narrow canal in New Hope, PA was taken with *gasp* a film camera. I love this area and haven’t been up there for a couple of years. If you look closely, you can see ducks in the water. I noticed the date on the picture-my 40th birthday!

Photo Hunt Old-fashioned

Standard

My mom is 77 and still loves paperdolls. That certainly is an old-fashioned thing to like, but it stems back to her girlhood in the 1930s during The Great Depression. She said she would sit for hours and hours on the step playing with her movie star paperdolls. Nowadays, she has collected the Tom Tierney paperdolls for years. I was down in a book warehouse and called her to see if she had the Tierney ones I had found there and she actually needed a few!
So this is my homage to the activity that made my mom happy as a child. The image is from a children’s book from the 70s, so they were still being fashioned then. Personally, I loved my Barbies! But as you can see, I love cutting out paper now myself.

Photo Hunt-Skinny

Skinny? Gee, how many things fall into that category? Here, we aren’t skinny in body. I do have a snake photo somewhere (of the garden variety) but I thought this fit (again kudos to Longwood Gardens-I most thankfully renewed my yearly membership!):

Longwood Gardens lamp post

It’s one of several very tall and skinny lamp posts that flank the sidewalks. I bet they are very old too.

7 layer cookies
These are Sean’s favorite goodies-7 layer bars. They smell delicious, look delicious and taste delicious! So that’s why I picked them! : ) (graham cracker, melted butter, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, walnuts or pecans, coconut and sweet condensed milk)

Here’s a recipe for inquiring commenters. I plan to make more of these in the coming days.

Photo Hunt-Messy+ last week

Standard

Don’t faint! It’s just a neglected corner near my computer desk. Not seen by many-please don’t chastise me. It holds some eBay stuff, used envelopes (I recycle), a drawing tablet for the computer (birthday gift from a month ago I have yet to try out), paper, etc. I hope to get to this soon-yeah right! It’s the hardest place to clean as someone is always parked at the computer right next to it!

~Update-I actually started to tidy this up! Yes!

I am not proud of this
And last week’s topic was ‘light’ and here is my sorry attempt to take outdoor photos on the 27th at Longwood Gardens of multiple lights-only one tree of dozens!

I just bought this adorable teenie tiny gingerbread boy at World Market on Tuesday. I think he’s about 2″ tall if that.

Long shot of the little guy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got down to my mom’s on Friday after over 3 weeks of not seeing her. She cringed at my boo-boo, but was anxious for me to assemble her Christmas tree-the kind with a million branches where you have to match up the letters on the tree pole to the one on the branches. We ended up with two that had different letters then the spaces left, so we shuffled a few around and that worked. Mom bought amber lights with white cording-opps-but we worked them in the middle well and they look okay. She has this pretty angel with fiber optics and really long ribbons that hang nicely down the tree. I was accordion pleating them and I think it’s going to be a gorgeous tree. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her dishwasher, but she may have dislodged or kinked a hose while forcing the dishwasher door shut when the bracket on the top that holds it to the underside of the counter was bent funny. I hear water gurgling though.
We went out for Chinese and then went to a few stores. I got a few more things for the guys, almost finished! Then we went to Home Goods and I saw a ‘must have’ peacock ornament-silver with Swarovski crystals on it’s body and a real peacock feather! I also bought a carved cookie press decoration modeled on an old one of an angel with laurel around it.
Needless to say, I am exhausted! I just wanted to get my photos up to share and rest and maybe trim my front hedges in the afternoon before the snow hits.
