A scavenger hunt

Standard

It was frigid on Saturday with just a wee bit of snow, but nothing like it’s suppose to get in the next few days. Rats-I still have to go to the dentist on Tuesday to get my crown fitted.I’ve been occupying my ‘free time’ this weekend with trying some of the paper collaging techniques I’ve been admiring on the artsy blogs I’ve been visiting. I made something today that I can’t share until the recipient gets it. I had so much fun making it. I did use some new papers that I found at Big Lots on Friday. Gotta love a variety of pretty scraps in a sack for 80¢! My pal on tribe is into paper crafting and I sent her a package of paper goodies. A few other pals will eventually get some ‘stuff’ too. I do love sending packages! So the Scavenger hunt is all taken care of-I have the seven things that I will send my bloggy partner. Here’s what they are and I won’t say exactly what they are until my partner gets the package:

1-a local newspaper

2-seeds or a plant

3-a photo of my yard facing east (I actually had one from last spring) and in a frame

4-a recipe with 3 eggs

5-a spoon

6-something yellow or with yellow in it

7-something 3″ but no bigger than 8″.

Fun! I’m putting the things together in such a way to make them ‘interconnect’. You’ll understand when you see a photo-promise!

Keep my pal P in your thoughts, she lost her estranged dad on Friday. My mom has a dreadful cold. I wish she would at least take vitamins to boost herself up. Bri’s dad had a tooth extraction last Monday which left him feverish and not feeling well. My uncle continues to rest in the nursing home after having his hip surgery going on 3 weeks ago. He gets to see his wife more ofen as she’s in the same facility!

I’m making Rachael Ray’s winter chicken stew for dinner tonight. The topping-Italian parsley, toasted pine nuts and grated lemon peel. You give the stew a splash of lemon juice when you serve it. It was really tasty! Rachael Ray’s Chicken Winter Stew

I may do the package bread mix for sourdough to go with it. We’ve been eating a lot of yeasty stuff-I went through Dunkin’ Donuts yesterday. Didn’t break any rules-just wanted a few donuts which I haven’t had in ages. I pretend I live in Alaska where it’s okay to pack on a few pounds in the winter for warmth. Seems the right thing to do in this kind of weather. 😉

Ann-I did change the font and color and we have the same template! The print is a little small-this is a test post.

Sharing heARTS

Standard

Inspired by Pea/Carole (over on the side bar)  and Sandy I decided to join the Valentine’s Day giveaway contest that so many artsy bloggers are participating in. I found this cute little accordian-pleated ‘brag book’ (about 4″ x 7″ with 12 sides) and a little porcelain angel as my giveaway. I made a new cover for the book using nice paper and stickers. There is a pink ribbon with some charms strung through the side there-that will be your surprise! I will also burn you a CD of a variety of my collages that you can make into cards or use as computer wallpaper. I’ll share my Valentine’s Day one tomorrow. The Harrison Ford design is a collage. So here’s what you do-I hope to get more than 3 comments-say something sweet-with Valentine’s Day in mind in my comments. I’ll give you until midnight SUNDAY (changed in hopes that more people will sign  my comments) and announce the winner Monday morning. You have to of course feel comfortable giving me your address. That’s it! Good luck!
Your goodies if you win!

Trying Foxfire

Standard

Because I heard it was good and didn’t crash a lot. I wanted to see if it was infact better than Internet Explorer. I have a good pal Carole over at Pea’s Corner (see sidebar). Most times I look at her site, I get an error message and get knocked off.  Foxfire kicked me off too! Can you see if you can look at it? Especially if your computer is over 3 years old? Plez? And if you have any idea what’s going on with why I am getting dumped, do tell! She says only me and another lady have this problem unfortunately. It’s so frustrating.

Zoey-the lettering in comments are piddly little I know. I think it’s part of this particular template which I like.

An-I am doing better today. Thanks for asking. I made homemade soup, I was telling Barbara about it-with chicken, carrots, white beans, tomatoes and pasta-so good! I’ll tell you about the cookbook tomorrow.

Guess I’ll scoot off here and do a little stitching.

Brrrr…

Standard

Not fit for man or beast in PA and much of the northeast today. It was a balmy 10 degrees this morning with a windchill factor of ‘pretty darn cold’. I felt bad that the guys had to go out in it.

The most exciting thing today for me was receiving Carol’s pretty Neighborhood Round Robin cross stitch project from the ice cold hands of the mailman (I had to sign for it and he had no heat in his truck). At the beginning of the project, I had gathered a bunch of designs and low and behold, a cottage and garden looked perfect for this one. I started on it tonight!

Brian’s new thing is bidding on eBay. He uses my account, so I have to make sure he pays on time and all. He had to get a money order tonight for a camera he won. I’ve been doing this since August, 1999 and he’s really never taken an interest in it before. I have a few things for sale, but need to add more. It’s good pocket money for me-sometimes.

The white stuff

Standard

Snow is on the ground-like a coating. Sean is hoping to miss classes-Sean just went back to classes last Tuesday! He acts like he’s in 5th grade again. : ) I think he may be worried about driving on bad roads-that I don’t blame him for one iota.

I ruined my roast last night. I took it out of the oven too soon and it was still red in the middle. I sliced it up and stuck it back in as my potatoes and parsnips were done. Why I cooked the veggies so soon is beyond me. I should have waited a hour or so. I like my roast beef when it’s really brown and almost getting a ‘fall apart’ texture to it.

I guess I was preoccupied with cleaning off my bedroom bookcase of lotions, etc and dusting it. I found a plastic shoebox of nail polish under my jewelry cabinet that was as old as the hills. I don’t know about you, but when I’m in the middle of a project, I just hate stopping it to do something else like cook.

The potatoes and veggies were good. Used the ricer (and am using the ricer-thanks to Von’s recommendation). I think I’ll make the chicken fingers that both Carole and Zoey made for their Sunday night din dins tonight.

Stitching WIP

Standard

I’m long overdue showing you some stitching projects. I’ve only worked on the little boy making a snow angel  (Giggles in the Snow by Mirabilia) and the pink  flower blossom (for a charity quilt). The other things are the finished half of an ornament featured in the JCS Ornie magazine and Cape May by Valentine Stitchery. I plan to work on the later tomorrow. Hope to get the house round robin project soon from Rachael to work on and then it will be that and the bee and pink flower for the next few months. I just added the legs to the bee that is on the blossom as I needed a break from the pink.
Not much new-just cold and windy. I did make 6 Valentines today for my pals over at tribe.net. I forgot to take photos of them. We’ve been sending each other mailart since October ’06.  We have a new particpant-a guy. I had a little trouble with his Valentine as I don’t usually do cards like that for other guys. : )

Having a little fun taking photos to thank my friend for the goodies I purchased from the g.c. she gave me from the Williams Somona catalog (as a Christmas gift). I got the personalized pink apron, the bowl, pink-tipped spatulas and a paring knife.
I had just gotten my hair done today, so that was the motivation for the photo taking. This was touched up a bit in PSP as the flash didn’t go off and it was a bit dark and I added some contrast and a border to it.

I have dark blonde/lt brown hair, so the editing made me look like a red head.

Gifties

Standard

I guess it’s safe to post these as three of the five (as far as I know) have received them. These were for my pals over at tribe.net. Six of us are pretty close and in the last few months we have been sending mail art to each other. I decided not to do paper for the ornament exchange and do what I do best-cross stitching! I used my sewing machine to finish them off. With the stuffing I added some blue spruce pine needles that smell like citrus. They really like them which makes me smile. I was working on them when I was getting over my tummy bug, so that helped me recover.

The postman always rings…

…more than once for me! I’m still celebrating my birthday 10 days later thanks to AnneMarie from the Netherlands and my friend Angela from N.Y.
Here are the surprises from AnneMarie. What a wonderful stitcher and a perfect finisher she is!

The Prairie Schooler is my favorite cross stitch designer, so AM did a black bird autumnal design for me. The book is a pretty DMC one featuring fruits. The two kinds of fabric will be well utilized. Thanks so much AM! I’ll send you off one of my special collage cards soon.

Today a package came from Angela. She had designed 3 gorgeous scrapbook pages for me! One for my birthday, one for Cosmo the cat and one with a Victorian flair. I’ll add some photos and share with you.

I am making some goodies in the form of gifts. The glue isn’t cooperating, but I plan to make 6 on these ‘items’ to start off with. I don’t want to say what they are, but I’ll show you in a couple of weeks. I put on James Taylor’s Cmas cd and went to town. That’s the best medicine. : )

I ran across this at Rocks in my Dryer. Shannon wanted to know some cool Christmas ideas. I would say the Christmas Memory Book I did about 11-12 years ago was pretty neat. I went through my mom’s photos and added many of my own to the collection. I made nice scrapbook like pages on 8.5″ x 11″ paper. I went from when my siblings and I were little to when our kids were little. I asked each family member what their best memory of Christmas was. I got some interesting answers! Everyone had their own page which I typed up and used different fonts for everyone. I got enough copied for all my brothers and our mom and put them in red plastic report folders that I decorated with sparkly snowflake stickers. I still look at mine!
