Here my boy Cosmo is making a narrow escape from under the narrow underneath of the sofa! This shot is over a year old and we haven’t seen him go under there lately (to lay near the heat duct and hide) as he may be too chunky now. There’s a heat duct that is more accessible in the remodeled kitchen and has a catnip mat in front of it. He’s not dumb!
A narrow escape
This photo is of the narrow canal in New Hope, PA was taken with *gasp* a film camera. I love this area and haven’t been up there for a couple of years. If you look closely, you can see ducks in the water. I noticed the date on the picture-my 40th birthday!

Getting things done

Standard

This is getting ridiculous.  I don’t want my pals to think I’m slowing down in my advanced years! Ok, I’m not ‘that’ old, but this isn’t like me to send gifts so late. It’s all the stuff that happened between Oct.31-Dec. 7, and then the mad Christmas scramble-the sinus cold and something else now that has me moving slower. But, I did get two things wrapped up and ready to send to England and Ireland.  I have something almost ready to go to Canada. Another item, a grad gift, was assembled over the weekend and that’s wrapped. There are still things on the little love seat that need to get in boxes and mailed too! Some aren’t expected, but my one friend needs something to make her smile as she just got diagnosed with pneumonia and may have an autoimmune disease.

My mom’s range top and oven went out. She had someone there to look at the situation and he said she needed new appliances! The oven is fairly new, but I bet it’s the wiring and he didn’t want to get into that. She is waiting on someone else to come now.

Sean took advantage of the warm weather and ran in the park today. I wanted to go, but wasn’t up to it. I did have the cat out on his harness yesterday and we had a nice walk, though he was in a hissy fit mood.  Sean’s off for his 6th semester at PSU on Saturday.

Upsidedown Kitty, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

Our cat Cosmo is so darn flexible-look how comfy he is in this position. Last night he was half hanging off the dining room chair playing with his feather on a stick-I thought he’d do a back flip like a gymnast! Love this guy!

Tuesday Wild Goose Chase

I’m seriously thinking about finding a new doctor now. Bri and I went to get our triglycerides and cholesterol checked this morning (fasted). The lab at the doctor’s office wouldn’t do our bloodwork because our insurance (new this past January) wouldn’t let them draw the blood. That being said, we have to make a doctor’s appt for both of us just to get the script to take to the other lab! The weird thing is that both of the main doctors were walking around while the lady was giving us grief and I knew they heard what was going on. They could have said, oh here’s the script for the lab since we both were there at that very minute, but no, (we’ve been going there at least 20 years). They want their piece of the pie. Bummer.
So I tossed and turned all night. I’m going to research local doctors and not make appts right away. I did start on the refined fish oil that a friend had suggested, so maybe I’ll wait to see if that helps my triglycerides like it helped lower Brian’s. Plus the sweet little physician’s assistant left who I would see all the time. She was good too. She had her second child in April and she either left to be a full-time mommy or got another job. One time she went through my entire file and rearranged it.

Not sure what I’ll do today. There’s a new ‘fresh foods’ type of Trader’s Joe about 10 minutes away. I may go there. We are getting a blast of hot weather for a few days. My mom wanted to do something, maybe tomorrow, but it better be in an air conditioned place.

I did about 9 laps around the house for exercise-it’s something! Unfortunately it made my legs achy during the night. I used Icy Hot but couldn’t take Tylenol because of the fasting.

Cosmo the cat’s ears are much better. The drops are a pain to put in, but his little kitty ears looks squeaky clean. So maybe he did have a yeast problem.

Here’s to a better rest of the day!

Mandevilla

My own flowers! I am happy that these bloomed. And to think the nursery was trying to sell them for about $20 each and was tossing them out. See what a little TLC can do?

I have no idea if I can save these from year to year. It wouldn’t hurt if I brought them in before the frost. I have to designate a place for my bring in plants. Where I had them in the past year-well between the heat and too much sun, I didn’t have much left by March.
Later Bri and I are taking Cosmo kitty to the vet. I refuse to go alone. It’s hard enough to get him in the cat carrier as it is. He’s been such an affectionate fellow too. Last night he was so content to be on my lap. Hope he doesn’t hate me tonight!

Nibble, nibble

Sometime between Friday and today, some critters, probably deer, had a grand feast. No use showing you the headless flower stalks, as it’s a sad sight. I was admiring the lovely yellow rose that was presenting me with it’s final bow of the summer season. The lavender roses were just as pretty. I do have a photo of one of the now gone buds.

Now gone rosebud

And you know how much I loved my dinner plate hibiscus-many of them are gone too.

I did have fun making a few videos, even a live one of Cosmo the kitty. I was trying to video tape him and play with him at the same time! The first part, well he has playing with the jalapeños, batting them around and wouldn’t do it when I wanted him to do it. My voice is high and I sound a bit tongue tied.

Here’s a collage page I really like. I call it ‘Dance with Me’

Enjoy tomorrow if you can!

Say hello to my little friend

Standard

The few times I ventured out today I was scolded by a catbird. Now I know they are usually very friendly birds and I have had a few sing to me as I rested in the chaise lounge, putting on a fine show and making me smile. So I figured there may be a young one around somewhere, but where?

After dinner I promised the kitty I’d take him out and he did ‘his usual’- walking, scratching, eating grass and sniffing. We neared a little spirea bush and I felt eyes on me. Sure enough, there was this little fella watching us while mom kept scolding us nearby. I was completely startled for some reason.

Baby catbird
After tying Cos up, I ran in to get the camera and Sean followed me out. I took about 5 photos, probably dazed the poor little thing! I then got it in my head that he was way too close to the ground in this bush (like a few feet up) and that the neighborhood cat or some other critter would eat him as a snack. So I found a stick, hoping he would perch on it, but he just flapped his wings and hopped across the yard to the forsythia along the road. Cos was watching all this and went as far as he could on his harness, creeping along very low to the ground. Birdie must have found his roost as it was quiet once again.

Earlier, Bri came out and planted my three $2 (or so) rose bushes from the Kmart sale. He thinks they are too close together. By the time he planted, I tapped down the soil, found the rose food and watered them, I was pretty sticky. Bri went in the garden to weed around his ‘$15 peppers’ (that’s what I call them as that’s how much they cost) and he was just drenched to the skin. I think we are finally finished planting things! Now we’ll get a heat wave and dry weather so it will be harder on the new plants.

Sean goes for his first fillings ever tomorrow morning and wants me to come along. I hope my post nasal drip and itchy throat will be better by then. Major annoyance the last few days. My eyes have been red too. I was also a little grossed out by boneless turkey breast I had for dinner, it’s rather sticky, but I followed a recipe on the package and it was good! You dip the turkey in a soy sauce and lemon juice mixture. You are suppose to use scallions for the center of the roll-up, but all I had were chives. Stick them on wooden skewers and broil them for 6 minutes on each side.

I hope for a cooking break tomorrow, but I’m not counting on it.

IRL

Standard

My friend did make it down today with her husband for a visit. They got here about 2:45 (I was a little nervous as I thought they were lost) and stayed until 7:45 until they headed for the other end of our county. We visited for a few hours and then went up to one of our favorite restaurants in Kennett. We even surprised Sean at Big Lots and did a little shopping. Angela brought me a cute little hand size scrapbook about friendship. I’ll have to take a photo. She added photos of herself and left room for my own photos. She also said what we had in common-November birthdays, we love cats and crafts. Speaking of cats, our boy Cosmo really liked them! They have 3 cats and he knows his cat people.

It was nice to finally meet after being ’email pals’ for at least 8+ years. I recommend it.☺

Update-Angela just told me that the people who they stayed with on Saturday night took them to sightsee in Philly the next day-they saw the Betsy Ross house, the Liberty Bell and Constitution house. They also ate a Philly cheesesteak. I told her next time not to miss the Art museum, the Franklin Institute or Reading Terminal market. Of course they need about 3-4 more days to see all of that!

Every which way but down

Standard

I’ll tell you it was a crazy day. I called our internet provider (if you know my email address you know which company this is) to order a router so Sean could get online with his new laptop. They are coming next Thursday. To do this took about 40+ minutes as they kept moving me from one department to another. Don’t other customers call for the same thing?

Later, around 1:30, I get on and my email isn’t working-I can’t receive new email and my password is rejected. I call them back and then the internet goes down. The guy said it should be working ‘by the end of the business day’. Yeah right.

So at 6 pm I let Brian take his turn with them. The new order was messing up our present account. A nice man from Oregon got us online and receiving email again, but an hour later, the email was down again. It looks like I won’t be getting email until next Thursday! I won’t be calling the idiots again. I sent them a message through their website.

Not only did that happen, but it was so hot I couldn’t do anything outside. I watered stuff later. I did try to take the cat out for a walk (he had just woken up and was dopey)  and something really spazzed him out near the door-he went straight up in the air 2 feet and kicked into (like karate) a small table that is holding a doll house I made and have set up there. I grabbed the house, which didn’t fall, but one table leg was completely broken off! I got the wood glue and rubber bands to try and fix it. It belonged to Bri’s grandmom too. Cos felt bad and stayed away from me the rest of the day.

So it isn’t ‘every which way but ‘up’, its what went down today. Hoping for a better tomorrow.

Please don’t email me, just leave a message here.
