I like the way this came out. Thanks to the artist mentioned in the bottom right for a cool background. My friends and I alter photos. This one includes three different photo elements. I added the border and the wording.

Presently a quote to live by
- Knowledge is power.
- Sir Francis Bacon, Religious Meditations, Of Heresies, 1597
English author, courtier, & philosopher (1561 – 1626)
I’ve been giving Oprah (or was it Dr. Oz) credit for this and here it was Sir Bacon. When I saw it was Sir Bacon, I thought of Kevin Bacon for some reason-oh, he’s from Philly. ; )
I’m reading up on call-backs and have gotten some interesting opinions, etc. I know my pals in blogland are being quiet on the subject-but knowledge is power people! I read there are only 10% of call backs from standard mammograms, but out of 1,000 mamms, only 5 are bad ones.
If you haven’t had a mammogram lately and you are over 40, do yourself a favor and get one so you know stuff. Ok? : )
I’ve had a quiet weekend. Two of my art pals and I are making tags/squares for our Christmas calendars. We are trading 8 to each other and then will have to make 15 for our own. I had so much fun making them today (they are only 2″ squares on my calendar). I’m up to 21 and need to make 10 more. I haven’t made the actual calendar part yet. I thank Artsymama in my blogroll for the inspiration when she posted her Halloween calendar purchase.
I also started a piece for our blogland Cross stitch lottery. On January 1st, some lucky stitcher will win all the submitted finished pieces. I wouldn’t mind winning them. I haven’t checked lately, but I think there are at least 20 participants.
This daylight savings is messing me up a bit. I better hit the hay soon. Have a great Monday!
Hope you like my new blog format. I couldn’t stand all my sidebar stuff on one side and I think my photos look better too.
Oh-my ’57 Thunderbird made the top right corner of Elijah’s Love quilt-and it’s an awesome quilt! (clickable)

This is an art trading card I made for my pal Annmarie in The Netherlands as she’s a bird lover and it’s her birthday in a few days! The birds are from an old bird guide and the background an old nature book. She really liked it.
Many thanks
I appreciate your comments on my entry from last night. I haven’t heard anything from my pal, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be good news unfortunately. Another friend from our group gave me her phone # and we chatted this afternoon for about 20 minutes or so. The dialects were traveling full force from the lady with the Philly accent to the lady with the Louisiana accent. She had her ear bent back good. Have you heard that expression before?
The fires are horrible out in California! They were showing the smoke from the radar on the news earlier and it was like nothing that I have seen before. My late paternal grandmom lived in Santee, a suburb of San Diego.
I watch ‘Dancing with the Stars’, mainly if I am interested in certain ‘stars’. Tonight, the performer who happens to be my age, and that’s Marie Osmond, passed out after she performed a strenuous dance-the samba. (the comments here are weird) They broke away for quite a bit and she was back for her score, a little shook up, but okay. She said she wasn’t breathing right, but after looking at the video, I think she was hyperventilating. Us premenopausal gals better be more careful. : )
I got a nice comment from Tootie, the gal who made the tags on the Halloween tree below. She was flattered that I had them on my blog-why not, they are so cute! I’m bidding on some Christmas tags she made, just as sweet.
Tonight I started to alter a book. What you mainly do is paint or glaze over the pages/words in an old book and add elements to them. I didn’t do that at first, I added a page of a pretty vintage girl. You are suppose to take out pages so that your ‘altered’ pages won’t make the book too bulky. I was just ripping instead of cutting, so my 1909 book was getting a little wobbly. I hope it will stand up to my altering. Will share some photos soon.
Two more days and Sean will be 21! He seems a little sad, but he says it feels like all work and no leisure time for him lately. He may treat himself (and maybe take a friend) out to dinner on Friday when he only has one class. He was complaining about having a big test on his big day. He’s struggling a bit, but it’s a transitional part of his life. He’ll be fine, I know it.
Be sure to catch my new video of my paint shopped pro altered digital artwork in my Vod pod.
So this is Autumn?
It’s close to 90 out today! I just turned on the air as I was trying to conserve energy. I haven’t been doing much except to play with Paint Shop Pro (sometimes digitalizing things is so much easier), but I did a page in my collage book last night. The book should have spiral rings as it’s getting so hard to work on. I also got 3 new rubber stamps in the mail today and want to play with them. I’m a little blah anyway.
Not too much new. Sean got a package from my friend Karin in Chicago (the lady whose wedding we went to in NYC) and I’m pretty sure it is cookies. I am so jealous as she is a chef in training-well she’ll be finished in December! I thought that was so sweet of her as I know she is super busy.
I started stitching the squash contest winner’s prize. I have to alter a chart, but I won’t go into that. I also started a gift which needs to be ready soon. The ’57 Thunderbird is nearing completion. I am tired of it, but it looks awesome.
Have you been watching any of the new shows? I caught ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘Heroes’ and ‘Journeyman’. Of course the last show is the only ‘new’ one above and it was a bit like one of my nightmares, trying to make sense of it. I’ll have to watch more to understand it better. And tonight, Tim Daly is in ‘Private Practice’, that spin-off from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Woo hoo!
Found this neat place-part 2
I was looking for a journal for my mom as a birthday gift. It had to have blank pages and if it had handmade paper, the better. So I looked in about 4 different places locally, nothing. I got online and found: Creative Papers Online and it’s really awesome! The journal is exactly what I was looking for-even nicer. I ordered handmade papers too-they’re huge-I didn’t look at the size, but they’re about 3’x3′. AND, you must order the HALF price ($4.64) 1/2 pound of super scrap assortment. They should take the word scrap out of there as it’s gorgeous paper-perfect for art projects. I’d say there are 20 pieces of 10″ x 10″ (around that). All colors and textures. I was ga ga!! To get to where you order ‘the scraps’, you have to put something in your basket and proceed to check out. It will take you to a page and ask if you want to add the assortment to your order-check it off!!!
A lady from the company called and asked if I wanted to sub some paper for another, which I did. On the order form she included a note that said she hoped my mom enjoyed the journal as much as I do.(edited from a note I left for my crafting pals).
I’ve been Warholized!
Darn that Flickr-they have ‘toys’ too. I was up late playing with them too. I should take my friend An’s advice and try to go to bed sooner. ; )
Do you like my Warhol look? Andy Warhol was from Pennsylvania too.

We are having pretty nice weather, still in the 80s here. Sean called and said he received his goodie box. I asked if he had tried the 7 layer bars and he said he hadn’t. Wonder if they were melted?
Nibble, nibble
Sometime between Friday and today, some critters, probably deer, had a grand feast. No use showing you the headless flower stalks, as it’s a sad sight. I was admiring the lovely yellow rose that was presenting me with it’s final bow of the summer season. The lavender roses were just as pretty. I do have a photo of one of the now gone buds.
And you know how much I loved my dinner plate hibiscus-many of them are gone too.
I did have fun making a few videos, even a live one of Cosmo the kitty. I was trying to video tape him and play with him at the same time! The first part, well he has playing with the jalapeños, batting them around and wouldn’t do it when I wanted him to do it. My voice is high and I sound a bit tongue tied.
Here’s a collage page I really like. I call it ‘Dance with Me’
Enjoy tomorrow if you can!
Collages
I’m still trying to do a few collages a week, but I don’t seem to be able to catch up with my friend Gret. She’s really into collaging lately. We still love doing the Art trading cards. Here is our latest theme-nature inspired. Can you guess what I used?
I kept the one on the bottom right. Gret’s is the one that looks like animals on the top left since she loves critters.
Here’s a collage page I recently made:
The little window opens to a Romeo and Juliet kind of scene. The raspberries are cut out pieces of wallpaper.
College boy update: Sean went to some meetings today and said the people were nice. Not thrilled to hear he ate a chili dog for his Sunday dinner, especially starting classes tomorrow-geez, I told him about that kind of eating. Uh-oh, still being a mommy here!
Lefty day
Thanks to my pal Wendy for sending me this card from American Greeting online:

Last year I made this digital collage of famous left-handed people. My mom, older brother and I are in good company:

I just picked a ton of tomatoes and two more squash! The number is growing in a small way. Bri used the buzz saw to take down the rest of the apple tree. At first he didn’t think the cord would reach. Too bad he didn’t try it days ago instead of using a hand saw. Men can be so stubborn.
I woke up yesterday with a red left eye. I know I’ve been rubbing it, but it’s been getting red a lot lately. Also, my lashes on the top seem to bend down instead of curl up like the other eye. I may have a sty or just a bit of a saggy eye lid. I’m going to the eye doctor tomorrow afternoon to see what he says. I don’t like to not get my eyes checked out since my mom has had eye problems (and her mom too). Wish me well.
Getting ready for the two day trip to the beach. We vowed not to pack too much. I hope the van will do okay on this trip.
My mom (and Jim her boarder) went out to see my uncle yesterday and he’s doing well and even ate the entire steak meal she cooked for him. She said he’s thin, but his color is good. He’s really glad to be home.
