Dianne and Jennifer went cross stitch shopping

Standard

I finally meet Jennifer who is a Pennsylvania girl down in Ocean City, MD. The 6 of us (Brian, Sean, her husband and 8 month old son) had a nice lunch at an Irish pub place. Her little boy is so adorable and laid back and a total pleasure to spend time with as he laughs, makes fun vocalizations and smiles up a storm!
After lunch, Bri and Sean went to the beach and Jenn and family went 3 blocks up to the cross stitch shop Salty Yarns. We bought some charts and forgot about the fabric room! By time we looked in there, we were tuckered out from chart shopping. It was a great visit.
We had a pretty good time during the day in Ocean City, MD, but the nights were rough as the beds were so hard and flat. It was a great room we got for a great price right on the beach too. Sean had his own room and tv. I have some arthritis in my right shoulder blade area and by the second night, I had to pull out the sofa bed and try to catch a few winks. I even dozed on the way home and I never do that.
Off to bed. I’ll upload my photos to Flickr tomorrow.

Happy Dad’s Day!

1st fancy Daylily, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

This is aimed toward my husband and brothers who are pretty awesome fathers as is Brian’s dad and my Uncle Don (who is a step dad). My own father wasn’t, but I’d rather not think about that, but honor the fine men who love their kids and make sure they are cared for and happy.
I didn’t do Photo Hunt yesterday-it was ‘6’ and I could not think of something interesting with ‘6’ in it. I could have gone through my photostream at Flickr, but that would have taken a while. Sorry Jamie!
Still doing yard work. Friday I cleaned out the rose bed and Saturday morning my poor back was complaining. Saturday I got the rake out and yanked on vines growing all through my daylily bed to let them breath! Crazy weeds.
My mom is coming to spend the night and then we are off to the beach. I am bringing my laptop in case it rains or something. I am meeting up with a pal from PA who will be in a nearby resort, but driving down to see me and do a little cross stitch shopping and lunch. See you soon J!
We are also expecting a heat wave and have had very little rain since Wednesday a week ago. I hope I don’t come home to real droopy plants. The flowers and veggies could be so much bigger!
Have a nice day Dads!

Best Pots of the year so far, originally uploaded by DianthusMoon.

I have these pots right near one of the seating areas outside. Seems the coleus like the dapples of sun they get here. I’ve have these black kettle flower pots for years. Besides Coleus, there are Pinwheel Zinnias, White Petunias and Blue Lobelia. I’m still potting up a few things and adding some annuals here and there for a surprise of color.
There are things that I’m not happy with-so much things are getting munched on and I have to spray here and there. Branches need trimming and don’t get me started on the weeding! I haven’t mulched. You think I would have learned to wait until the Chestnut trees dumps their catkins which are so messy. I wish we could get those trees cut back sometime.

Wachovia Center Rocked Last Night!

Standard

My friend Lorin gifted me with a ticket to see James Taylor and Carole King in their Troubador Reunion tour and we went last night! It’s always great to see James again (5th time since 1979!), but seeing Carole was such an added bonus! She has such a powerful voice. She sounds like she did back in the 1970s. James had his friends and former band members Danny Kortchmar, Leland Skyar and Russ Kunkel performing too. I know Leland, the dude with the long beard in the back here is a serious tchotchkes collector-I like him even more.
There’s always a bit of a downer, we got stuck in traffic for 1.5 hours near the center, but in total I think we were in our vehicles (we met at a certain spot) for almost 4 hours coming and going. We missed the first 5 or so minutes of the concert, but they had started later or we would have missed more.

I thank Lorin from the bottom of my heart for the ticket, the ride, the t-shirt, but mostly her thoughtfulness. Thanks to her hubby who waited for us in the parking lot!
The first photo was taken by my with my PowerShot and the photo of Lorin and me was taken with her iPhone
Another bummer-my 14 yr old van needs a pricey transmission repair and we can’t see putting a ton of money into it. We will have to start looking for a smaller, get around vehicle. I’ve had it for 11 yrs and it only gave us yet another transmission issue when we first bought it. It did have it’s shares of weird noises and the a/c leaking, but I liked driving it for the most part. Wish us luck!
