Wild goose chase

Standard

I went to the gyn office yesterday, which isn’t that close to here, about 20 miles round trip. I get there, pay the fee, go in the exam room, get my BP done and answered questions and then get in that open in the front gown. So I’m sitting there next to the doctor’s office. I had seen him sitting in that office. After about 10 minutes the nurse pokes her head in and said that Dr. H. had to go upstairs for a minute. So I said okay, maybe it’s a ‘just see’ upstairs. Well a few minutes later she opens the door again and said an actual delivery was underway and I had to come back at a later time! That’s never happened to me before. Ahhhhh…all the nerves I had. So I am going back today at 4:15.

I stopped off at a shopping area on the way home and enjoyed looking around a Hallmark store and did a little birthday shopping for my mom. I stopped off at another store closer to home and found a few more mom things. Tonight I ordered from Amazon and a Creative paper place. I was looking for a blank journal so she could make her one collage one. I know she’d be good at it, or she can do it when she comes here for a visit.

Bri took me out to dinner and when I started eating, I just didn’t feel great. I ordered steak which was good, but I brought half of it home. I guess I got myself in a stew before the trip to the hospital.

College guy update: Sean is doing good. He said he feels like he is on vacation?! I guess he means it doesn’t feel like home to him. He is going to church and joined a group there, something he never did at our church. He went to a picnic and a few other things with them already. I did say the ‘nice’ girls probably go to church. ; )   Statistics is proving to be difficult for him and he is struggling a bit. I told him to utilize the internet and library. He may have to get help. He also shrunk a shirt he likes and got medicine for his face on another and spotted it. Live and learn!

So many anniversaries

Standard

Elvis-gone 30 years. Happened right after I graduated from high school. Princess Diana-10 years-we had just gotten online and I remember all the message boards expressing sympathy. And now 9/11-6 yrs.  That was a scary day for so many of us, not knowing what was happening. Sean was a freshman in high school. I wanted to go get him to keep him safe. I couldn’t stop looking up at the sky since I’m sure a few of those planes weren’t that far away. We all remember that day.

You are suppose to drive around today with your headlights on to show you remember too.

The summer can’t quit here

Standard

The a/c is blasting again. If it’s not on, it gets stuffy in here. I was hoping for temps in the 70s and I see on the weather now that we will be getting some rain! It’s been dry too.
Here are the promised photos of the compacts I got at the weekend yard sale. My mom recognized the name of the designer on the aqua one, Richard Hudnut and it may be from the 1930s.

Speaking of IDs-here’s the one from about 1981 when I was young and free. : ) It’s now West Chester University, but it started out as West Chester Teacher’s College. I was born in that town too.

Around the county

Our Sunday afternoon was a bit warm and crowded. We headed up to the Mushroom Festival and parked in a bank lot-what luck! We couldn’t really look at what the vendors offered-how many baby strollers are there out there and people who are in a daze? A store in town had some collaged cards that caught my eye. I told them I like being inspired. We heard that Ilan Hall and Miguel Morales from Top Chef were doing a cooking demo at 2:30 and waited inside a tent for half an hour. We could have met them before hand as they were standing outside the tent for about 15 minutes. Oh well. I got a few good shots and Bri said the heat was getting to him so we left.

To my surprise Bri took me to Chadds Ford Days! Now that’s when I felt the heat! Lots of vendors, artists, antique dealers and local restaurants. I did get a 9 month free membership to the Chadds Ford Historic Society and I can go to ‘the big pumpkin carve’ next month for free. I’ve never been to that event! We saw some vintage cars-a 41′ Woody and an early 1960s Lincoln Continental similar to the one JFK was riding in when he was assassinated in 1963. The later vehicle was owned by someone at Chadds Ford Days. I saw a Martha Washington cabinet like the one I had, but it had been refinished and looked like new. The asking price was $185. We saw a child’s MW cabinet at another vendor.

Bri treated me to dinner at Ruby’s Dinner (yummy burgers with avocado and the works) and we went over to Borders where I purchased some awesome art magazines. I have to cook up some chicken for tomorrow (meant for tonight) later, but I plan to relax and get some great ideas from my new purchases.

Some of the photos in this collage were just things that I liked-the sunflowers with their hanging heads, a tractor, and old barn (I guess they are all in the collage).

We didn’t eat a single mushroom dish! The guys from Top Chef were talking so much, they burnt the mushrooms they were cooking!

Ilan and Miguel

The only things I bought were handmade soaps from a Virginia couple at Chadds Ford Days. I didn’t see my other soap people from last year at the Mushroom Festival.
Our day 9–9-07
To tell you the truth, I’d rather go to flea markets and yard sales. My mom was here yesterday and we hit a yard sale up the road. I got some vintage compacts-one has a little powder holder, rouge and lipstick. Mom went a little nuts there and I had to whine because the 90 degree heat from getting to me. She loves shopping-second hand seems to be her new thing.

July 10, 2001-Sally Taylor (daughter of James Taylor and Carly Simon) played with her band at a free concert in Exton, PA. and the three of us went. I was grabbing a few photos of Sally and it had just rained and she said the flashes were scaring her a bit as it had been a lightning storm-we almost didn’t attend. Flash forward to September, 2007-Sally and her husband Dean are expecting a little boy any day now! James is gonna be a grandpa! ; )

2006 Mushroom FestivalTomorrow and Sunday is the 22nd annual Mushroom Festival over in Kennett Square. It’s become a big ‘to do’ over the years. I think I mention it here every year too. I may or may not go. I kind of want to go to Chadds Ford Days which is a little down the road. My mom decided to come over from my uncle’s house and spend the night. She can walk around only so much. The festival is usually jammed packed and parking is rough. The CFD are in a big meadow near the Brandywine River. Both are going on for two days, so we could go on Sunday. The winning chef, Ilan Hall from Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ is going to be a guest at the festival. I’d like to see him.

Ilan Hall
Bri heard through the grapevine that actor Mark Wahlberg was in Unionville, a few towns away doing a movie. Not sure if he’s still in the area.
If I go to either event, I’ll take some photos!

Located in Delaware Bay approximately 3 miles offshore of Bowers Beach, Delaware. Bowers Beach is approximately 10 miles southeast of Dover, Delaware.

There was a news story on NBC 10 by Tim Furlong, wonder if it may help get this place sold? No electricity and batteries power the functioning light and fog horn. One ladder to climb up. The ‘bathroom’ toilet is a hole that when you look into it, you see the bay! Interesting purchase, don’t you think?

Getting stuff rolling again

Standard

Just to let you know, I’ve been selling a little on eBay since last week and sold a few items! That always gives me the incentive to list more, which I did today. If my posts are short, it’s because I am busy doing something-think moola making!

I found through a search the top video over in my side bar that my estranged brother Don made of our niece Tori (he didn’t spell her name correctly in the credits) singing about her ‘Smelly brother Kenny’ when he was here last year. My brother Ken is doing some excellent guitar playing there. She really can’t think of some stinky things, but I think she’s going to be a good singer (here she was only 7).

I’ve been Warholized!

Standard

Darn that Flickr-they have ‘toys’ too. I was up late playing with them too. I should take my friend An’s advice and try to go to bed sooner. ; )

Do you like my Warhol look? Andy Warhol was from Pennsylvania too.

Warholized like a can of soup!
We are having pretty nice weather, still in the 80s here. Sean called and said he received his goodie box. I asked if he had tried the 7 layer bars and he said he hadn’t. Wonder if they were melted?

Inside

Standard

I was taking photos of some of my vintage children’s books for a Flickr group I am in and decided to go around the house and do a few captures.

Blue glass
A collection of mostly light blue glass in the dining room window. The green glass is in the other window.

Curio table
I have a small curio table in the living room and it’s pretty full! I have the ‘heart of the ocean’ replica necklace from the movie Titanic plus a  collectible Titanic music box that my niece Tori gave me.

Stitching girl
One of my porcelain dolls. I use to have many more on display. She is special because she is Victorian and stitching! I actually did the little piece in her lap many years ago. Behind her is one of the ‘tree of life’ lithographs I’ve had since we were newlyweds. That is March for Brian and I have November for me.

Sean’s school photos
Sean’s brass school bus of all his school photos except his 12th grade one. Some are really unflattering, but I love them anyway!

Chocolate pepper?
And last but not least, I believe this is a chocolate pepper (color). I have some of it in my turkey meatloaf, but before I took a knife to it, I think it justified a photo.
I’ll be putting the rest of the house photos plus the vintage book photos in my Flickr album where there is a link in my sidebar.
