Stand up to Cancer telecast

Standard

I don’t know how anyone could miss this hour long show Friday, the 5th as it was on all three major networks. Maybe cancer can be cured in our lifetime. As someone who had a close call with it last year, I appreciate all the research they can do. Meryl Streep talked about how the March of Dimes was started by Eddie Cantor, on the radio, when he asked people to send a dime for polio research. And we are lucky as a vaccine was found for polio. It could happen with cancer too.

I was touched to see Patrick Swayze speak and hear James Taylor and Sheryl Crow sing ‘Fire and Rain’. Sheryl had the calcifications like I did, but hers were cancer. She looks beautiful now and her little boy Wyatt is adorable. Dana Delaney had her mammogram videotaped. The doctor had felt a large calcification-the bigger they are the better.  I had the small microscopic ones.

I went to the site and went shopping for some little things at Cafe Press. I wanted a t-shirt, but all they had were a trucker’s hat, buttons and stickers. I bought the later two for the time being.

I’m going to keep this as a sticky post (something new at WordPress-yeah),

so you can go shopping if you’d like. If I had more moola, I’d buy more. If I get a little more down the road, I’ll send some to this org.

<————–keep clicking the buttons in my sidebar! The breast cancer site is doing a fundraiser of sorts by the number of clicks they receive.

Finally some rain

Standard

Bri kept telling me it was going to rain-he must have known. I did go out and water my plants as it was so nice and cool for a change. I had more energy to do so as it wasn’t humid. I also picked a few flowers to photograph in these cute little vases I have. I’ll share on I photo shopped as a ‘sneak peek’ for Saturday’s Photo Hunt:

I love that Paint Shop Pro!

Ever have a pretzel from ‘The Pretzel Factory’? They are pretty good and we got 10 for $5 plus chocolate and cinnamon dipping sauces. I believe the yeast plays havoc with your digestive as we all took Rolaids. Or it was my homemade tomato sauce (?), but I added a pinch of baking soda to it to help with the acidity. The sauce was good (tasted so fresh) and while we ate, it poured outside. We needed the rain so badly.

My shoulder area is better, but I’ll still go see the chiropractor tomorrow. It’s not my only issue. My neck on the left has been hurting off and on and my knees aren’t that great. We’ll see what happens-never been to one before! My uncle was teasing me-saying that first he’ll use the little rubber hammer, then a metal hammer and I better watch out for the tongs! He had a good laugh, which was music to my ears.

I’m sorting out my papers and craft stuff, or I’d show you a photo of the desk. Bri couldn’t believe it was messed up already. I had to take a break. ; )

Was a bit teary-eyed to see the American male swimmers on the relay team (Michael Phelps was one of them) take the gold a little bit ago! They were hooting and hollering!

This reminds me of the Olympic opening ceremony last night-all the gorgeous colors in the dark!

Hmmm….most of my dark photos deal with Christmastime. This is one of my favorite nighttime photos of the fountain and light show at Longwood Gardens (it has saved me in the hunt more than you know, though I may have used this one before-I forget). The stars were hanging from the trees and I was actually behind where the people were sitting to view the show. Christmas music was playing too.

It’s going to be a pleasant day today. Sean is going to the beach for a daytrip with some pals. I hope he has a great time!

Many thanks

I appreciate your comments on my entry from last night. I haven’t heard anything from my pal, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be good news unfortunately. Another friend from our group gave me her phone # and we chatted this afternoon for about 20 minutes or so. The dialects were traveling full force from the lady with the Philly accent to the lady with the Louisiana accent. She had her ear bent back good. Have you heard that expression before?

The fires are horrible out in California! They were showing the smoke from the radar on the news earlier and it was like nothing that I have seen before. My late paternal grandmom lived in Santee, a suburb of San Diego.

I watch ‘Dancing with the Stars’, mainly if I am interested in certain ‘stars’. Tonight, the performer who happens to be my age, and that’s Marie Osmond, passed out after she performed a strenuous dance-the samba. (the comments here are weird) They broke away for quite a bit and she was back for her score, a little shook up, but okay. She said she wasn’t breathing right, but after looking at the video, I think she was hyperventilating. Us premenopausal gals better be more careful. : )

I got a nice comment from Tootie, the gal who made the tags on the Halloween tree below. She was flattered that I had them on my blog-why not, they are so cute! I’m bidding on some Christmas tags she made, just as sweet.

Tonight I started to alter a book. What you mainly do is paint or glaze over the pages/words in an old book and add elements to them. I didn’t do that at first, I added a page of a pretty vintage girl. You are suppose to take out pages so that your ‘altered’ pages won’t make the book too bulky. I was just ripping instead of cutting, so my 1909 book was getting a little wobbly. I hope it will stand up to my altering. Will share some photos soon.

Two more days and Sean will be 21! He seems a little sad, but he says it feels like all work and no leisure time for him lately. He may treat himself (and maybe take a friend) out to dinner on Friday when he only has one class. He was complaining about having a big test on his big day. He’s struggling a bit, but it’s a transitional part of his life. He’ll be fine, I know it.

Be sure to catch my new video of my paint shopped pro altered digital artwork in my Vod pod.

So many anniversaries

Standard

Elvis-gone 30 years. Happened right after I graduated from high school. Princess Diana-10 years-we had just gotten online and I remember all the message boards expressing sympathy. And now 9/11-6 yrs.  That was a scary day for so many of us, not knowing what was happening. Sean was a freshman in high school. I wanted to go get him to keep him safe. I couldn’t stop looking up at the sky since I’m sure a few of those planes weren’t that far away. We all remember that day.

You are suppose to drive around today with your headlights on to show you remember too.

A new local prank

Standard

About 12:15 last night, I was finishing up on the computer and it was getting warm in here. Bri’s good at turning the air up to about 78 before he goes to bed. So I was walking past the front window to adjust the air and I saw a car parked in front of our trash bin! I turned the front light on and then I saw it drive away, but I heard wheels moving, the bin’s wheels! Sure enough, the bin was gone and I had to get Bri out of bed to go look for it. First he went up the yard in the wrong direction and I told him they went the other way. He found it all dumped out (and it was a full load this week) in our next door neighbor’s driveway and their mailbox had been knocked down! I decided to call the police, if just for the neighbor’s sake of needing a new mailbox. The officers came here to file a report.

Today I called our neighbor and she says this is a ‘new thing’ with the kids or whatever pranksters are doing it. They use to come along and smash our mailboxes. Most of us got wise and got plastic mailboxes or put a metal halo around them. It was nice to chat with our neighbor as I haven’t done so for a while. They are older and kind of stay to themselves.

I am suffering either from a sprained right thumb or carpel tunnel syndrome. I am left-handed, but my thumb started bothering me big time yesterday afternoon and throughout the night. I have a special support glove somewhere, but right now I am icing it and am wearing a glove you wear to bed (to moisturize it). It helps. I think I hurt it lifting the pots of roses. I’ve had hand problems before, but usually my left hand. Also trying to ‘stitch in hand’ without a hoop seemed to bother it. I guess I better lay off the cross stitching for a few days.

Sean did fine at the dentist yesterday, but he did feel odd and out of sorts, so I’m glad I went with him. He had three fillings done. I drove through Wendy’s for lunch. He tried to drink his Frosty float through a straw when he got home, but his lips were too numb and it went all over his face.

Have a great weekend. Hopefully some rain will break the heat here. I have green beans to pick, not sure if I can do it myself.

3 weeks from today we head up to University Park! Time surely flew by this year!

Update, so I don’t have to write a new post-I just added a 4th phone line to our TMobile account. I had called for a special offer on a phone, but it only applied to an existing phone line. I am giving my old phone to Bri’s dad and getting a cool Motorola flip phone in magenta. If pops can’t get the hang of my old phone, TMobile has a ton of phone deals to chose from. Mine is a $159.00 model and will be free after their discount and a mail in rebate. Can’t beat that. And each additional phone line is only $10 a month. Peace of mind for everyone to know they have a way to communicate.

I have my hand in an Ace bandage and it seems to help a bit.

My thoughts and prayers go out to families of the people who died in the bridge collapse in Minnesota. What a horrible thing! To think a bridge separates us from my brother and his family is still a scary thing to me.

Scary moment in NYC

Standard

Did you see the footage on the news about the steam pipe explosion in NYC tonight (right in the middle of rush hour)? It was on Lexington and 41st, an area we were close to less than a month ago. We stayed on Lexington and about 51st and could also see the Chrysler Building. Scary stuff! The mayor was on and said it wasn’t terrorist activity as pipes like that do burst once in a while. The steam is used to cool off big buildings such as the Chrysler Building.

When things drive you crazy

Take a look at these gorgeous flowers:

Bee Balm perhaps?

I thank Brian for taking this photo of my neighbor’s gorgeous watermelon red flowers. I could not tell from way across the road what they were. The easy thing would be to ask my neighbor, but she doesn’t even look at us cross-eyed these days. So we went out to the side yard with the zoom lens-ha! After he uploaded the shots (and the camera software zoomed in nicely) I could tell these were bee balm flowers. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what they are. Yeah. I’m gonna get me some red bee balm. ; )

Are you watching any of the Live Earth Concerts? We turned it on at 10 am and it’s on Bravo until 2 am this morning. Reminiscent of Live Aid back in 1985 (I watched almost the entire thing back then). A stand-out group was a group of British scientists called Nunatak (see my Vod:Pod) in Antarctica who performed on the barren snowy plains with penguins around them.

Close encounters

Standard

Tonight around 7 pm, I stepped out the back door to check plants and there about 40 off feet in front of me was a deer, probably eating the little sour green apples on the ground. I’ll say ‘she’. She turned around and went down the hill a bit. I started talking to her like I do Cosmo, in a high sweet voice. She moved her ears like she was tuning in. She walked on a little and stopped and listened as I walked down to the patio. She flipped her white tail and casually walked on like she was tame. They usually run away fast as lightning. Of course I was thinking about my ‘dear’ grandmom today as she passed on 7 yrs ago.

We watched the special on William and Harry the Princes tonight. Everyone my age watched them grow up like our own children. They are pretty nice young men. They were interviewed by Matt Lauer. There will be a charity concert in their mum’s honor on July 1st which would have been Diana’s 46th birthday.
